nairavsdollars: *Insists He Won’t Recognise Buhari As President–Elect
*His Utterance Treasonable, May Plunge Nation Into War – NDF
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos
Chief Ayo Adebanjo, elder statesman and one of the leaders of Afenifere, has dared the Federal Government to arrest him over his statement that he would not recognise President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the 2019 presidential election until proven by the courts.
Adebanjo, in an interview published by Daily Independent, had described the 2019 presidential election as a farce, saying he could not recognise Buhari – who was declared winner of the election – as president-elect.
Adebanjo, who also expressed optimism that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would get justice at the court, also said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wrongly declared President Buhari as winner of the election.
“The election was a farce. I don’t regard Buhari as president. Buhari was wrongly declared winner by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). When we get to court, we would know who the real president is.
“How can you call Buhari president with the way the presidential election was conducted in a 21st century Nigeria? Look at the elections, they were completely militarised. Corps members were openly kidnapped to rig the elections,” he had said.
However, some Nigerians had reacted to the interview by calling for his arrest, saying his statement was treasonable.
The National Democratic Front (NDF) on Tuesday called for the immediate arrest and arraignment of Adebanjo, saying his comment amounted to treason and utterances capable of plunging the country into another civil war.
NDF, through its Secretary General, Dr. Bolaji Abdulkadir, said: “Adebanjo premised his treasonous call, published by the Daily Independent, on the handling of the recently held presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is merely a cover to justify the mayhem he and his co-travellers are planning in order to illegitimately and forcefully overthrow the government in violation of the constitution.
“Security agencies must immediately act to curtail such excesses by immediately arresting Adebanjo and anyone that instructed him to make such statement with a view to sending out the message that the laws of Nigeria are not to be toyed with.
“This call became necessary because of the series of plots by people like Adebanjo (and those who pay him) to overthrow the government of President Buhari, which were uncovered by the Federal Government prior to the elections.”
In his reaction on Tuesday, Adebanjo said he stood by his comment that he would not recognise President Buhari as the winner of the election.
He said he would not be surprised if he was arrested as the Buhari administration was known for its lack of tolerance for the opposition.
“Let them come and arrest me. I am used to that. It is typical of their regime that they don’t tolerate opposition. It is typical of Buhari in particular, he doesn’t tolerate opposition; so it’s nothing new to me.
“I maintain my stand that until the Supreme Court rules that he is validly elected, I will not recognise him.
“We have evidence that the election was rigged, let the court decide otherwise. That is all I am saying.
“The constitution provides that if you are not satisfied with the outcome of the election, go to the tribunal and don’t resort to violence.
“It is only when the court decides that he won, that is when I will recognise him. If to them, that is an offence, then I am ready to go to prison. By my pronouncement, I have not said anything illegal or unconstitutional.
“Right now, Buhari is the president declared by INEC, and not the person that won the election, and the constitution says if you are not satisfied by that declaration, go to the tribunal.
“I will only recognise him if the court rules that he is the rightful winner. That is my position and if it is an offence to follow what the constitution says, then I am ready to go to prison,” he said. https://www.independent.ng/im-ready-for-arrest-ayo-adebanjo-dares-fg/ Pa Ayo Adebanjo's priorities are misplaced. I will take Pa Ayo serious only when he and other elders like him decides to use their influence to organize Yorubas, for the purpose of FORCING" regionalism back on Nigeria, or better still pull Yoruba out of this shit-hole with organized violence. |

olas24u: They have been asking for the return to the 1963 constitution for 50years.You can see that they don't intend handing over to the vice president or tinubu or fashola, because they will avoid it by all means possible.so it is good to use double strategy aiming for the same goal post and defeat this wicked system. The Igbos, then later Abokis who imposed this fucking unitary system used organized violence. They didn't ask or care what others feel. Mere political position or some redundant socio-political group can't effect restructuring. The only solution is organized violence. Again the Igbo and Aboki guys who imposed unitary system were of Adebanjo's generation. Rather than use the same extreme method, already used by others to get what they wanted, Pa Adebanjo and his generation of Yorubas settled for "irrational" diplomacy. This unwise move earned Yorubas the tag of "cowards" by people who would not hesitate to use organized violence if they could, to get what they want. In conclusion no body can effect the desired restructuring through politics. The only solution is organized violence but I guess we are not ready. |

Odingo1: Funny thing is that you Yorubas see Igbos as your enemies yet in real life Hausa-Fulanis are killing you in your own land in Ife and Lagos, they took your land and install Emirs. I remember after their killings in Mile 12 lagos, your governor was making mouth that they are going to move mile 12 market dominated by northerners and later chicken out after series of threatening from the northerners. Their Sarki Hausawa throne is in Lagos. When the time come the people that had been taken your land from Ilorin to Osogbo is the one that kill and grab lagos.
All this una fear about Igbos in Lagos will amount to anything, enjoy your one Nigeria. You really think I've got time for rants and bullcrap. I raised some points in my post, If you're interested in having a civilized discourse, give evidence of Igbos tolerance to even their own let alone others, as regards political position. While at it, kindly tell the world the rationality for wanting to get from others, especially Yoruba what you're not ready to give in return. One last thing don't get emotional. |

Yoighaman: I strongly agree with you, I think she won...just because she's Igbo doesn't mean she should be cheated, afterall she's a Nigerian and free to contest and win an election in any part of the country, this tribal bigotry will get us no where and by the way I am Yoruba. God bless Nigeria. You are a liberal Omoluabi just like myself. However, I have decided to relate with Igbos as a collective strictly on pragmatic basis with Yoruba interest as my first consideration. Yes, in an ideal situation no Nigerian should be denied of their constitutional right, on account of their tribe or ethnicity/religion. Now, these are facts: the Yorubas have been the most tolerant group in this nation since its creation. All over Yorubaland you will find non-Yorubas in either government or civil service. This good gesture has never been returned by any other region. Ironically, the Igbos who are arguably the most intolerant group (even among themselves) in this country are the most aggressive in wanting important political positions in other regions. To make matters worse, when they win such positions it won't take long before they start gloating about how they are now dominating their host. Bro, you would agree with me that no great people remain great for long if they treat their antagonists with levity. As for me I will always treat people as individuals irrespective of their background. However, we must realize that as a collective, Igbos have decided to be Yorubas number one antagonist, and it's only rational that we don't allow them do in our space what they won't allow us do in their own space. |

greatermeme: Very soon, we're going to organise a PEACE ACCORD between the Igbos and the Yorubas, to let peace reign! The leader of the Yoruba delegation will be Afenifere Leader-Femi Fani Kayode! From the Igbo side will be Ohaneze Leader- Nnia Nwodo! I hope, this will bring an enduring peace and tranquillity! I hope to marry a Yoruba girl! I'm afraid you're late. Igbos have already succeeded in alienating liberal Omoluabis like myself. Henceforth, our relationship with you would be based on strict pragmatism with focus on Yoruba interest above any other consideration. |

greatermeme: Your fathers are busy selling their lands/inheritance to the Igbos in Lagos! What does that tell you? Jealousy, hinders a man's progress! Go to any serious region of the world, you would never find a place where the retail sector is left in control of immigrants. The I don't care attitude of our seniors, and their preference for skill based work gave Igbos the opportunity to populate that sector. Now, we are determined to put a stop to that, cause that is the rational thing to do. |

Hotfreeze: We have cleaned out Igbos in Lagos politics, it remains one.
That one is our in law. In fact, when he decamped, Igbos openly insulted him. Ohaneze summoned him also. The dumb fools in Ohaneze were asking him why he decamped to Apc as if Pdp is an Igbo party.
Now that the political environmental is complete, we would move over to the civil service.
You mistook Yorubas hospitality for stupidity and would now be taught a bitter lesson. Great move. In addition I suggest that Yoruba youths should also start to focus on creating start-ups which can disrupt the "buying and selling" sector. We must ensure that we eliminate any influence an antagonist tribe might have in all our lands. That was the mistake of older generations, which we must now rectify ASAP. |
