Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday directed that students in public and private schools in the state should sing the National Anthem in Yoruba Language daily, to preserve and promote the Yoruba culture. The Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, relayed the directive at a meeting with Principals and Head Teachers of public schools in Lagos. Akinwunmi Ambode She said that Yoruba Language would also be made a compulsory subject for students. Gov. Ambode had signed the Yoruba Language Preservation and Promotion Bill into Law on Feb. 8. Adebule said that Wednesdays had been declared ‘Yoruba Speaking Day’ in schools, with all teaching and learning activities from assembly period to closing being done in Yoruba. ”Gov. Ambode wants me to pass this message to you, that henceforth, Yoruba language be made compulsory in both private and public schools. ”The National Anthem must be sung in Yoruba on a daily basis too. “The Egbe Akomolede has done the translation and we will send the copies of the Yoruba version to your schools by Monday so you can begin to teach the students. ”I have also met with the owners of private schools and we have relayed this directive to them. ”We are also considering translating the textbooks of other subjects into Yoruba Language because I believe that when students are taught in their mother language, learning will be easy and their level of performance will improve. ”The state government is passionate about this Law, so we do not lose our language, culture and heritage,” she said. Adebule said the Ministry of Education was doing an assessment to ascertain the number of Yoruba teachers that would be required to effectively teach the language in public schools. She appealed to the school managers to cooperate with the government to drive and ensure the effective implementation of the Yoruba Language Preservation and Promotion Law. Mr Lanre Ogunyemi, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education, said at the event that the development would be beneficial to the younger generation and generations unborn. ”In Finland, you must pass the Finnish Language before you are offered admission into high institutions. Same is done in Germany, China and other developed countries. ”We need to adopt such to drive development and foster national unity. I beg you all to key into this law and make it work, ” Ogunyemi said. Reacting, Mr Mamodu Braimoh, Assistant Secretary, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Lagos Chapter, commended the state government for the development. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested and grilled a JAMB official based in Makurdi, Philomina Chieshe, who claimed that a snake swallowed N36m. The money was part of the proceeds of the sale of scratch cards. Detectives at the commission told newsmen that Chieshe revealed that the money was collected in instalments from her by her Coordinator, Mr. Samuel Umoru. In one of the statements she volunteered to the EFCC, Chieshe who is a clerk in the Makurdi office of JAMB, was said to have revealed that the coordinator usually asked her to withdraw proceeds of the sale of the cards from her account in two banks. In the statement she made to the EFCC under oath, Chieshe said, “This money that I withdraw, the coordinator used it for the office and some time for himself.” She claimed that she had been warning Umaru that it was wrong to use the money for miscellaneous expenses in the office or for private purposes but he would not listen. Some of the withdrawals which she claimed were at the behest of the coordinator included the N340,000 withdrawn on May 5 and 26, 2014 with an ATM card. She also disclosed that she used her ATM card to withdraw N120,000 for the coordinator between June 17 and 18, 2014. Chieshe added, “He instructed me to withdraw the sum of N640,000 using my card between June 30, 2014 and July 7, 2014.” It was learnt that Umaru had also been arrested and questioned about claims by Chieshe. An EFCC told Punch said, “The interesting aspect of the disclosure is that Chieshe’s statement was obtained long before the snake and naira swallowing testimony became public knowledge. “She was first quizzed on February 16, 2017 and made additional statements on April 7, 2017 , May 30, 2017 and June 28, 2017. “In all her statements before the EFCC, there was no mention of any episode of any snake and the disappearance of monies in her care.” The EFCC also quizzed another JAMB official, Tanko Labaran, the clerk in Nasarawa State office of the board who could not account for scratch cards worth N23m.

Aisha Wakil, a lawyer, human rights activist, an expert on Boko Haram issue, has dropped hint that Abu Musab Al-Barnawi-led faction of Boko Haram might be responsible for the abduction of Dapchi school girls on Monday, February 19, 2018. Aisha Wakil, a former member of the committee on dialogue and peaceful resolution of security challenges in the northern region of Nigeria under the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan, had, in previous efforts, brought military officers and Boko Haram Commanders together during negotiations. Speaking to PRNigeria in Maiduguri on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, Aisha who is said to be highly respected by some leaders of Boko Haram said she was ready to sacrifice her life to rescue the girls from abductors. The activist was reported to have helped in circumcision of some kids over two decades ago who later became Boko Haram members. Her relationship with the sect members earned her the name ‘Mama Boko Haram.’ Disturbed about the latest abduction of 110 students of Government Girls Technical College Dapchi, Aisha has renewed her commitment to fight to end the Boko Haram insurgency. The activist who cried profoundly, said “This thing that is happening, is really breaking my heart. These children don’t even know what they are doing. Some of them were not even born at the time this thing started. “Wallahi I will go after them, even if it will take my life to save these girls. They call me Mummy, but they don’t listen to me. I keep on talking to them, begging them to lay down their arms and embrace peace but they will say ‘Insha-Allah mummy we are going to stop.’ Sometimes they will say they are scared they are going to be killed but I will tell them nobody is going to kill you.” Appealing to the leader of the Boko Haram Sect, Aisha said: “I heard you are now been called ‘Abu Mussad Albarnawi’ but I know you as Habib and I am begging you to stop the killing and abduction. I have sent many messages to you. I don’t know if you are getting these messages or you just choose to continue to hurt your mother and make her cry. “Dear Habib, Nuru and others, I was told you may be the ones responsible for the kidnapped of these girls. Where ever you may be if you are listening to me, I beg you in the name of Allah to release the girls back to their families. “What type of children will continue letting their mother to continue crying. Dear Habib, I pray Allah touches your heart and that of your colleagues to stop what you are doing. Please come out. I will never deny you even if the whole world did. Those who know you know your heart. They know you are no longer interested in the fight anymore. “I will hold all of you and wrap you with my wrapper and bring you out and no one is going to shoot you. If they will shoot you, they will have to shoot me first. I don’t mind sacrificing my life if you will stop what you are doing. If I die stopping Boko Haram, I know I will go to paradise.” Respected by many in her community, Aisha Wakil has been actively involved in efforts to end Boko Haram through her NGO “Complete Care and Aid Foundation” aimed at restoring peace to the northeast by rehabilitating the youth against warped ideologies that mislead them to join the terror group. The organisation is designed to provide a free feeding centre, fight drug abuse, sex hawking, human trafficking, female genital mutilation and de-worming among persons displaced by the insurgency. https://www.thetrentonline.com/mama-boko-haram-reveals-faction-responsible-dapchi-girl-abduction/amp/ |

It's no more news on the proposed N10b worth worship centre in Akwa Ibom state which Pastor Adeboye laid it foundation few weeks ago. We are cry for employment but our government are wasting money on irrelevant things, despite having thousands of churches scattered across the nation a whooping N10b is about to be spend on another church by a state governor. Now let us look at what N10b can do to turn peoples life around in Akwa Ibom state. If the state government brings up a policy like Npower and employed youths in the state and place them on N30,000 stipends monthly, let's see how far this can go. If 5,000 youths are placed on 30,000 monthly, it will cost the state government 150,000,000. (One hundred and fifty million per month) In a year the state government will spend 150,000,000 x 12= 1,800,000,000 ( One Billion, Eight hundred million naira) In Four years which is the first term of the governor, the state will spend 1,800,000,000 x 4 = 7,200,000,000 (Seven Billion, Two hundred million naira) Can we all see how wasteful our Governors are, yet they blame federal government on unemployment, while they are the worst enemy of the poor. |
When Buhari said we should all look into farming, many called him unprinted names. Thank God some sensible governors are now thinking with their brain. If every state ventures into farming we will surely make progress |
Can you imagine this grown up fool called omokri? Has Buhari denied that any girl was kidnapped like him and his clueless boss when Chiboks girls were kidnapped ? Truly, many are mad, but few are roaming |
Go and write it down. Yoruba man stand a chance to take over power from Buhari in 2023 than any Igbo man. Better still a South South man have better chance than Igbo. By 2023 You guys will understand that Politics is a game of numbers, you work for it to earn it, not by obvious hatred for the same people that will give you votes, You shall be reminded all those unprinted names when the time comes. Kindly empower FFK & Fayose to carry on the good works on your behalf |
The same way nobody in Buhari government is popular like Shekarau of Boko Haram |
