Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by ademiife(m): 2:23pm On Aug 17, 2007
Please, can someone knowledgeable tell if Sterling Bank Plc shares will be good for long-term [from 1 to 10 years or short-term [between 3 and 6 months]?

May I also commend everyone who's been genuinely concerned enough to give effective and practical replies to questions, suggestions and inquiries raised in this forum. Many thanks!

In view of this, I eagerly look forward to reasonable replies, and please, can one still get to buy Sterling Bank Plc shares at the secondary market?

ps: Pardon my seeming ignorance. I've never invested in the stock-market before. I've never had anything to do with it.

Please Bobbyaf,
What's your view on these scriptures:
1Co 11: 3; 1Co 15:24-25, 27-28?

Expecting your kind response,

Bobbyaf, Thanks for your kind words of response.

As humans, we are all set in some certain things or ways. Beliefs, habits and reasoning. One truth remains: it is best to argue, to reason, to express one's conviction without being egotistical, dogmatic or fanatical. We may never agree but we must display enough decorum to respect what others believe and are convinced about. We should/can only appeal to others' sense of reasoning in line with us.

It is unchristlike to disparage others. Consider Jude 9.

You may never want to agree with the JWs. You really don't have to. But you have that moral duty, that human conscience to respect the right of everyone to be whatever they want to be. In my view, the much hate or embittered words some use against the JWs really show how unchristianlike these folks are. Remember what the Lord Jesus said at Matthew 7:21-24?

How would you want to be talked to if someone is speaking against your faith? Matthew 7:12

There's so much I'd love to discuss with you but time will fail us; it's not about winning you over but setting some things into finer sense of contemplation.

Take good care of yourself.

Bobbyaf dear,

I won't shy away from my intimate association with the JWs.
That aside, I put these Bible portions before you for clear explanations:
John 14:28/Rev 3:5,12- may I ask if Jesus is the same as the Almighty God?
John 17:3; 20:17- may I ask if Jesus believed in only ONE TRUE GOD Mark 12:29?

, proceeded or what?
Your definition of 'to proceed' startled me; and it smacked of all efforts by you to misrepresent the truth of the scriptures. Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary says as regard 'proceed' as a verb: 1. to continue doing sth that has already been started; to continue being done. 2. to do sth next after having done sth else first. 3. to move or travel in a particular direction.

Can you please, dear, reconsider your 'own' definition of 'proceed' as regard number 2? From what I have learnt from the JWs, they CERTAINLY believed God rested from his creative works as regard the earth. Yes, he rested on the seventh day!

, and whether the days are literal or not?
No one should be dogmatic about this? Why, in the eyes of the Creator a thousand years is just like a day in the eyes of God! Ponder 2Peter 3:8. Does it sink?

Rather than appeal to others' reasoining faculty, you tend to insult their sensibility and reasoning. It is sacrilegious to twist scriptural truths- we must be very careful; it is also very un-christlike to misrepresent others! Because we don't like, does not mean we should lie. Or, as Jesus would have asked you: Who appointed you Judge over others?

, and will I be leaving this out: what do you mean when you mentioned the deity of Christ?
Take care to care!

I guess they do; only that they aren't hypocritical about it. In all sincerity I've been with them at their kingdom hall preparing to go and preach and seen them praying about their ministry and people they are going to preach to. Very surprising, you'd say. And I've seen them very much in the neighbourhood praying before starting their Bible study.

I guess they aren't just like all these other religious groups that try to impress folks with prayers and what have. I guess, they aren't praying to please anyone. I can assure you they do like praying before preaching, but not anyhow, as it is with christendom.

And scripturally, consider: Matthew Chapter Six; Verses six to eight. Then, Matthew Chapter Ten, Verses Twelve, Thirteen.

My own observation!

Ah, ladies!

Comments are free; facts are sacred. The world's about live and let live. Because we have different opinions on certain things shouldn't make cold or hostile. It's one beautiful human race: black or white. So ladies, why not sheathe the 'cold' sword and think of warmth. Let's use our intellectual ploughshares to make the Land a better place.

Ok?

For me, all comments are respected, no matter how ludicrous they come to my mind. Respect begets respect; in showing honour let's take the lead; showing the willingness to pursue peace.

In any contentious matter, I've found it better to look for solution rather than justification. Please let's carry on in peace and dignity. I care. Take care!

Therefive minus one! we are each the author of what we feel, think, assume and confuse(!) love is.

Right now, I have a beautiful damsel am in love with, with all my very heart. She means the sunshine to me. And no love for someone else will ever supersede the one I have for her. May I never renege on my promise to marry her and remain faithful to her, She is one of the brightest minds in the female world.

Simple and unassuming. Industrious and delightful. Et cetera, et cetera!
Romance / Re: Can You Love 2 People At The Same Time? by ademiife(m): 5:04pm On Apr 24, 2007
Love, we must humbly recognise, is PERSONAL. It is the consensual/mutual feeling of those involved. Can we all love the same way? Love-feeling can share similar elements from person to person. But can it be universally defined and confined to rigid emotions? Do those who practise polygamy love less? While those who practise monogamy love more? Can love be logically measured? Is any love ever the same with another? How would you feel if you're told you don't love the one you love? Probably, you'd say the person is sick, ehn? Guess, what someone may think if you said it's not possible to love two persons at a time.

Loving two persons at a time happens. It really does.

No matter what our disbeliefs can be about certain things don't stop seemingly crazy things from happening, you need to hear, see and feel the secret fears of people to know things happen. Since none of us has any empirical proof on this matter, I'll say the most important to be thrashed out is to guide the person in dilemma to make the best decision.

Hoping he's not polygamous in nature, he should pick the one he most dearly wants to spend the rest of his life with; or stick to the one he's pledged to marry. He's apparently fortunate for he has the best of two worlds to choose from!

Let's all note that it's easier to be critical than to be correct!
Religion / Re: Jehovah's Witnesses: the only true religion? by ademiife(m): 5:40pm On Apr 03, 2007
So much to say about the Witnesses! So little time to say them all, As there are many ways to enter through a door into a room- breaking in, using inappropriate key [what some call Master Key], using the right key, etc., so are there diverse perspectives on ANY thing that touches on human observation. Sane and loving men have learnt to live by the rule that: comments are free; facts are sacred. Their will always be folks who are bitter, misinformed and murderously antagonistic for no just reason. And these are all humans- males and females. One thing is certain, till God's Kingdom comes there will always be animalistic people who can't learn to remain different without being insolent.

"When we take up a case, let's do a self-scrutiny as to whether we are looking critically at the context- in whole- of which we speak or write. Is our personal experience wholly objective and past re-examination? Can we claim absolute understanding of what we are not wont to agree to in the first place?JW's are one of the most inconsistent religious organisations in existence. Apart from those highlighted by Bobbyaf in his first post, i would also like to highlight a few more.

The Watchtower Society currently rejects most of the teachings of their first two leaders - its founder Charles Taze Russell (who was president of the organization from 1879-1916), and "Judge" Joseph Franklin Rutherford, who succeeded Russell as president from 1916 - 1942. These were called Gods spirit directed prophets in their days, but everything they stood for have been rejected. How can such an organisation be Gods only true body on earth? , how can we be sure that in 25 more years, Jehovah's Witnesses won't also reject the current president, Milton G. Henschel (1992 - present), as they did Russell and Rutherford?"

From the above, I ask: what evidential proof is in this allegation? As a thinking person what will you say?

"There are so many inconsistencies in the New World Translation of tyhe Bible. You find that words are translated differently when they point to the deity of Jesus Christ." Can we have CERTAIN examples?

"What disuaded me from joining them is their denial of the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ even when it is clearly written that He Resurrected physically in the Holy Bible. That is the core of Christianity, the birth, death and physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. I would advise anybody to steer clear from that group and rely solely on your Holy Bible for guidance on living a life, acceptable to God. Jesus Christ had forewarned us that false prophets will arise in the end times." How would you substantiate this vehement statement? And what evidence is there that you really understood their point and you were not too eager to listen to ALL that you've always wanted to hear?

"In actual fact they do pray through Jesus name, in accordance with scripture, but unfortunately, they do not see Christ as equal to the Father. They falsely teach that Christ was the first to have been created, and was given the power to create by His Father." Permit my ignorance, how would you explain these scriptures: John 12: 44, 45, 49&50; John 14:28; John 20:30&31? As an afterthought consider First Corinthians 11:3 and 15:24, 27&28. You may have fine points to share there,

"Any organization that downplays Christ as much as they have done cannot be the true organization. The whole plan of salvation surrounds Christ. Every theme be it found in the OT, or NT, is centered around Jesus Christ. The fact that the JWs failed to see that indeed Christ is God Almighty, and is ONE with the FATHER, makes them logiocally an organization thats rooted in false teachings. Of course I am not saying this to score points as such, but it is plain truth. " Please dear, God's Word is not about 'plain truth'- it is SACRED TRUTH, as such it must NEVER be adulterated. What proof[s] do you have that these people, Witnesses, you so diametrically described are not God's representatives?

"The JWs have not been consistent with their doctrines. They have actually changed quite a few of what they once held as gospel truth. Thats not a good sign for any organization who claims to be Jehovah's true organization.

Almost all of their prophecies concerning the end of the world have failed. Truth cannot be altered. If its truth today, then its truth for tomorrow.

Today they hold that in 1914 Christ's kingdom presence , instead of His literal coming, has occured. Before 1914 it was another date concerning the same event.

Then there are these failed prophecies:

1918 "Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in Hebrews 11, to the condition of human perfection." Millions Now Living Will Never Die, page 89.

When the date arrived and nothing happened this was said: "The year 1925 is here. With great expectation Christians have looked forward to this year. Many have confidently expected that all members of the body of Christ will be changed to heavenly glory during this year. This may be accomplished. It may not be. In his own due time God will accomplish his purposes concerning his people. Christians should not be so deeply concerned about what may transpire this year." The Watchtower, 1/1/25, page. 3."

What is outside the Bible can NEVER be gospel truth. Take time, not as a jaundiced person looking at life through the lens of history. Carefully consider what these people said MIGHT occur and why they FELT CONFIDENT. And don't you think that they were humble enough in admitting their fallibility on such matter of predictions? The truth of God's Word doesn't change. You can only know more. But will one be diametrically disqualified for making [wrong] assumptions? Consider history: were Christ disciples expecting the restoration of the Kingdom to Israel at the wrong time? Acts 1:6? Any careful reader of the publication you cited would see that the Witnesses were rashly expecting SOMETHING great to happen. How wrong they were! Does the rcord show they were after some mischiefs? Please, let us be honest enough not to allow our jaundice to colour things/people we have strong reservation for. A word: I am a man who can defend your right to an opinion, but not to disparage other things and people.

Humanity is about sanity, integrity, modesty, humility and objectivity. Remember HUMANITY whenever you choose to discuss issues, things and people. It's a great thing thing being part of Nairaland. Religion / Re: Jesus Christ Is Michael The Archangel by ademiife(m): 4:34pm On Apr 03, 2007
Reading through the Scriptures I certainly agree that Jesus is same as the Archangel Michael. But then, permit my ignorance: Is God a Trinity? And in explaining, can you define what Trinity is?

"For [God] “subjected all things under his feet.” But when he says that ‘all things have been subjected,’ it is evident that it is with the exception of the one who subjected all things to him. 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone." can someone explain this verses?
what about these:

5 Then the Devil took him along into the holy city, and he stationed him upon the battlement of the temple 6 and said to him: “If you are a son of God, hurl yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will give his angels a charge concerning you, and they will carry you on their hands, that you may at no time strike your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus said to him: “Again it is written, ‘You must not put Jehovah your God to the test.’”

8 Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, 9 and he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.”
