Nairaland GeneralKwara CDHR Congratulates Comrade Issa Aremu On His Reappointment by Ademola2003(op): 2:08pm On May 30, 2025
On behalf of all the members of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Kwara State Chapter, we extend our heartfelt congratulations on your reappointment for a second term of four years as Director General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS). This achievement stands as a testament to the significant strides and transformative changes you have brought to the Institute—West Africa's premier centre for labour education—where you have proudly served as the first Comrade Director General.

Your reappointment presents a remarkable opportunity to build upon your past achievements and further advance the mission of MINILS, particularly in the delivery of high-quality labour education. We are confident that under your continued leadership, the Institute will remain pivotal in promoting industrial harmony and advancing labour policies across Nigeria.

As consistent advocates for human rights and labour welfare, CDHR urges you to continue prioritising the well-being and harmonious relationships of all employees. A more cordial working relationship between management and staff can yield a more driven, united, and productive workforce.

CDHR also wishes to appeal to all staff who, as a result of past disagreements, may have taken opposing sides or built divisions among themselves. While disagreement is not inherently a bad thing—especially when it is rooted in genuine concern for progress and development—it must not be allowed to breed animosity. We therefore encourage all parties to sheath their swords, embrace reconciliation, and maintain a harmonious working relationship for the benefit of the Institute.

Furthermore, we encourage all MINILS staff to reciprocate these efforts by fostering a spirit of collaboration, mutual respect, and understanding throughout the workforce. This collective unity will be fundamental in achieving the industrial harmony and institutional excellence we all envision.

As a dedicated educator, negotiator, and administrator, we urge you to deepen stakeholder engagement with labour organisations, civil society, and the general public. An inclusive approach to labour issues will significantly enhance the responsiveness and impact of the Institute’s work across Nigeria and beyond.

CDHR also reaffirms its unwavering support for the programmes and vision of MINILS. We pledge continued collaboration in the areas of youth empowerment and workforce development, as these remain critical to national growth and social progress.

Lastly, we urge you to place an even greater premium on staff welfare. Only an empowered, well-trained, and highly motivated workforce can effectively drive the Institute’s vision of excellence in labour education and training.

Once again, congratulations on your well-deserved reappointment. We look forward to the continued growth, innovation, and impact of MINILS under your dynamic leadership.

Nairaland GeneralFIBSU Slams WAEC Over English Paper Delay, Demands Accountability by Ademola2003(op): 10:31am On May 29, 2025
...says students deserve better, calls for immediate reforms

The President-elect of the Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU), Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, has strongly condemned the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the unwarranted delay in administering the English Language paper in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), reportedly due to a question paper leak.

This unfortunate development, which left thousands of students stranded and forced many to write the examination under unsafe and stressful conditions late into the evening, is a clear reflection of institutional failure and an unacceptable disregard for the safety and welfare of Nigerian students.

As a body that represents and advocates for the educational advancement and well-being of Ibadan students and beyond, FIBSU finds it deeply troubling that such a critical examination was marred by disorganisation and lack of preparedness on the part of WAEC—a body entrusted with maintaining the integrity of our education system.

The paper, initially scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, was either not conducted or postponed to an unreasonable time between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in many centres. This, without doubt, jeopardised the psychological preparedness of candidates and exposed them—especially those in rural areas—to unnecessary risks and logistical challenges.

WAEC's recurring lapses, particularly in securing its examination materials, are no longer tolerable. These failures have become a pattern, and they threaten the credibility of our examination system, frustrate the efforts of students, and undermine the trust of the public in our academic institutions.

FIBSU therefore demands the following:

1. Immediate public apology from WAEC to all affected candidates and their families.

2. Identify and prosecute individuals responsible for the leak and logistical breakdown.

3. Urgent implementation of technological security systems to prevent future occurrences.

4. Enhanced safety protocols to protect students travelling to and from examination centres, especially in remote areas.

5. A comprehensive review of WAEC’s operational framework to guarantee professionalism, timeliness, and transparency.

We can not afford to continue jeopardising the future of our students through acts of institutional negligence. It is high time WAEC rises to its responsibilities and begins to reflect the values of excellence and integrity it claims to uphold.

As President-elect of FIBSU, I reaffirm our commitment to standing firmly for the rights and welfare of all Ibadan students and Nigerian youths at large. We will not hesitate to escalate this matter through relevant legal and civil channels if WAEC fails to take appropriate corrective measures promptly.

Students deserve better. The future of our nation depends on the integrity of our education system.

Nairaland GeneralFIBSU President Elect Marks Children’s Day With Heartfelt Message Of Hope by Ademola2003(op):
The Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU) President-Elect Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale extends heartfelt wishes to all Nigerian children and children around the world as we celebrate the joyful occasion of Children’s Day.

In a warm and uplifting message, Aare Giwa described children as “the light of our future, the heartbeat of our communities, and the leaders of tomorrow whose dreams must be protected and nurtured.”

He emphasized that Children’s Day is not just a time to celebrate the laughter and innocence of our young ones but also a reminder of our collective responsibility to ensure they grow in love, safety, and access to quality education and opportunities.

“Today, we are reminded of the beauty that children bring into our lives. As students, leaders, and future parents, we must be deliberate in supporting policies and actions that protect children’s rights, promote their education, and empower them to become the shining stars they were born to be,” said Comrade Giwa.

He called on parents, educators, community leaders, and government stakeholders to invest more in child welfare, health, and inclusive education, stressing that no child should be left behind.

As a student leader, Comrade Giwa reaffirmed his commitment to using his office to promote child-friendly initiatives, youth mentorship programs, and education-driven projects that will impact both students and younger generations.

He concluded with a hopeful note:

“To every child out there, know that you are special, you are loved, and your dreams are valid. Keep smiling, keep learning, and never stop believing in yourself. Happy Children’s Day!”

Nairaland GeneralFIBSU President-elect Condemns Police Killing Of WAEC Candidate by Ademola2003(op): 2:07pm On May 20, 2025
The Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU) has strongly condemned the killing of a student who was reportedly struck by a stray bullet fired by a police officer in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victim, a candidate in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), was on his way to write an exam when he was fatally shot—an incident FIBSU described as tragic, avoidable, and utterly senseless.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, FIBSU President-Elect, Comrade Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, decried the incident as a reflection of the recurring recklessness and disregard for human life by elements within the Nigerian Police Force.

“That a young student, full of dreams and hope, could be killed en route to his exam hall is more than unacceptable—it is a national tragedy,” Kamorudeen stated. “There is absolutely no justification for the use of live ammunition in civilian areas, especially near schools or exam centres. The right to life must be upheld at all times.”

In response to the incident, FIBSU issued the following demands:

1. Immediate identification and arrest of the officer involved.

2. A transparent and thorough investigation, with public disclosure of findings.

3. Swift and decisive prosecution of the culprit by the law.

4. Adequate compensation for the bereaved family.

5. Urgent police reforms, including improved training on civilian engagement and rules of engagement.

The union further urged the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, the Inspector General of Police, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, and human rights organisations to take immediate action to ensure justice and curb the rising tide of police brutality across the country.

“The hopes of countless young Nigerians are being crushed by these repeated acts of violence. We demand accountability. We demand justice—now,” Kamorudeen added.

Nairaland GeneralInsecurity: KSYC Urges Govt Intervention In Oke-ero, Ekiti LGS by Ademola2003(op): 10:02am On May 12, 2025
The Kwara South Youth Congress (KSYC) has ramped up its efforts to communicate with Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, about the pressing issues related to infrastructure that continue to affect communities across the state. In a comprehensive press statement delivered to journalists in Ilorin, the organization underscored the urgent need for improvements in public amenities and facilities in Oke Ero and Ekiti local government areas respectively.

The Publicity Secretary of KSYC, Adejare Bashir, highlighted several areas of concern, particularly focusing on the deteriorating infrastructure in communities across the two local government. Bashir detailed how poor road conditions, inadequate healthcare facilities, and insufficient educational resources are severely impacting the quality of life for residents. The group emphasized the necessity for the state government to prioritize these issues in its upcoming development plans to ensure the welfare and progress of the local communities.

According to Bashir " the roads in the Ilofa, the headquarters of Oke Ero LG is in dire needs, particularly the major roads which connects Ilofa to Odo-owa town which is now a shadow of itself, its a sad experience for resident of this communities, we are appealing to Kwara State governor, mallam Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman to consider uplifting this roads for viability.
Bashir highlighted that Kajola, which is interconnected with the community of Odo-Owa, is facing a significant lack of basic amenities, particularly in healthcare. The primary health center (PHC) in Odo-Owa, which serves the surrounding communities, is deteriorating and nearing a state of disrepair. The Kwara State Government is encouraged to take action to upgrade and revitalize this essential facility to better serve the residents in these areas.

The Idofins region, which includes the towns of Idofin-Odo Ashe, Idofin-Odo Aga, and Idofin-Ayekale, is facing significant challenges due to the absence of basic amenities and governmental support. These three major communities in the area are struggling without any government presence, leaving them reliant solely on the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), which is severely lacking in both qualified staff and essential medical equipment. It is disheartening to note that many schools in these communities are non-operational, primarily due to a shortage of qualified teachers and adequate classroom facilities. The situation calls for urgent attention, and we are appealing to the state government to extend the benefits of good governance to this region, ensuring that the residents receive the services and support they desperately need.

In a similar plea for assistance, Bashir's KYSC is advocating for governmental intervention in communities such as Osi, Araromi amd others, considering the presence of Kwasu campus in n the area. The reality for many towns within this local government area is grim, as the majority lack access to clean drinking water, adequate road infrastructure, and reliable public schools. The community members are grappling with the everyday challenges of these deficiencies, which hinder their quality of life. Bashir expressed a heartfelt hope that the state government will heed the voices and struggles of the residents, as it is crucial for their wellbeing and development. He concluded with an earnest appeal for the government to recognize and address the urgent needs of these underserved communities,Bashir concluded.

In what has now become an alarming and distressing reality, the safety of lives and properties within our local government area is increasingly compromised. Over the past month alone, there have been more than 15 reported cases of kidnapping along the Obbo Ayegunle-Osi expressway. The residents of Kwara South are living in a state of palpable fear and apprehension. While we recognize that security challenges are a nationwide concern, Kwara has long been celebrated as a state of harmony and peace.

It is imperative for the government to take robust actions to ensure the protection of its citizens, as these kidnappers seem to be integrating themselves into our communities. We earnestly urge the state government and various security agencies to act decisively in ridding our lands of these criminals.

In a particularly troubling incident that occurred on Sunday, another woman in her 40s, along with her two children, was reported missing in the Ekiti Local Government area. This heinous act of violence and wickedness must come to an end.

We are pleading on behalf of our community for enhanced measures and a renewed commitment to safeguarding our lives and properties. It is essential for the government to provide us with assurances of safety in both Kwara South and the wider Kwara State. The time for action is now; our collective peace of mind depends on it.

PoliticsComrade Tajudeen Hammed Anderson Fault Offa LG Chairman’s N7.37bn 2025 Budget by Ademola2003(op): 9:20pm On Mar 27, 2025
....Calls It Unrealistic, Misleading

The Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Balogun Ward, Offa Local Government, Comrade Tajudeen Hammed Anderson has strongly criticized the 2025 budget estimate presented by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Olatunji Olawale Suleiman (Omituntun), describing it as unrealistic, misleading, and lacking in transparency.

The ₦7.373 billion budget, which was presented before the Legislative Council, was tagged the “Omituntun Budget 2025” and focused on infrastructural development, economic empowerment, and service delivery, yesterday.

However, the opposition member has raised concerns over the credibility of the revenue projections, poor allocation of funds, and the administration’s failure to prioritize critical sectors.

In a statement he officially released, he faulted the revenue estimates, describing them as “overly ambitious and unrealistic.”

The budget projects ₦3 billion in non-oil revenue from exchange rate gains and electronic transfers, a figure the PDP says is purely speculative.

"How does Offa Local Government plan to generate ₦3 billion from exchange rate fluctuations and electronic money transfers? This is a highly unstable revenue source, and there is no clear strategy outlined in the budget," the statement read.

Furthermore, the PDP Chieftain criticized the meager projection of ₦40 million in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), noting that the administration is failing to maximize local revenue sources while depending heavily on uncertain external funds.

The PDP also took issue with the allocation of funds to key projects, arguing that many pressing issues affecting Offa residents were either underfunded or ignored altogether.

Among the projects listed in the budget, the opposition questioned the ₦400 million earmarked for the rehabilitation of Obada-Ring Road, describing the amount as inflated.

"I won't be surprised if we can see similar road projects executed in neighboring LGs at far lower costs. This is a 1.1km of road and it's gulping N400m? What transparency measures are in place to ensure this project does not become a conduit for siphoning public funds?" the statement queried.

Similarly, he criticized the ₦110 million budgeted for borehole projects, stating that there is no clear information on the wards to benefit from the initiative or the sustainability of the project.

On education, he lamented that the ₦224 million allocated for classroom construction and renovation was inadequate, given the state of dilapidated schools across Offa.

He also described the ₦15 million allocation for the Offa Local Government Farm as “laughable,” questioning how such a small budget could drive meaningful agricultural development and food security in Offa, which is the food basket of Kwara South and some parts of Osun State.

Despite the economic hardships faced by residents, healthcare and social welfare received little attention in the budget, he criticized.

"With rising inflation and economic hardship, the APC-led government has failed to provide direct social welfare programmes to support vulnerable citizens. The ₦160 million allocated to healthcare infrastructure is grossly inadequate to address the sector’s growing challenges," the statement read.

The opposition also questioned why no funds were allocated for medical outreach programs, affordable healthcare initiatives, or direct financial support for struggling households affected by economic policies such as the fuel subsidy removal.

The PDP also raised concerns about the lack of transparency and accountability in the execution of past budgets, urging the Legislative Council to scrutinize the proposed allocations.

"We have seen a pattern where budget figures are announced with fanfare, yet little to no implementation follows. The people of Offa deserve clarity on how these funds will be spent, and we demand an open process to prevent financial mismanagement," the party stated.

The opposition further criticized the APC-led administration for claiming to have renovated the Legislative Chamber, which had been inactive for years, arguing that the council has largely operated as a rubber stamp for executive decisions, rather than an independent legislative body.

The PDP Chieftain also dismissed Hon. Suleiman’s claim that his administration is committed to youth and economic empowerment, citing the meager ₦28 million allocation for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

"This amount is completely inadequate to support Offa’s growing population of young entrepreneurs. No specific vocational or digital skills programs have been outlined, proving once again that this government is only paying lip service to economic empowerment," the party stated.

In conclusion, Anderson described the 2025 budget as a document filled with political gimmicks and deceptive figures, calling on the Legislative Council to thoroughly review the proposal before approving it.

"The APC-led government in Offa must shift from propaganda to real governance. Budgeting is not about announcing large figures; it is about execution, transparency, and impact. The people of Offa deserve better, and as the opposition, we will continue to hold this administration accountable until real progress is achieved."

The party urged residents to remain vigilant and engaged, stressing that the days of unchecked spending and empty promises must come to an end.

HERE ID THE FULL STATEMENT

Offa LG 2025 Budget is Unrealistic, Misleading – PDP’s Comrade Tajudeen Hammed Anderson

I, Comrade Tajudeen Hammed Anderson, the Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Balogun Ward, Offa Local Government, wish to express my deep concerns regarding the recently presented ₦7.37 billion 2025 budget estimate by the Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government, Hon. Olatunji Olawale Suleiman (Omituntun).

The so-called “Omituntun Budget 2025” is nothing but a collection of unrealistic revenue projections, misplaced priorities, and deceptive figures designed to mislead the people of Offa.

As a responsible opposition, we cannot sit back while the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government continues to engage in political gimmicks at the expense of the people’s welfare.

The budget proposal claims that Offa Local Government will generate ₦3 billion from non-oil revenue, particularly from exchange rate gains and electronic money transfers.

I find this highly speculative and misleading. Where exactly does the APC government expect to generate this revenue from? What structures have they put in place to ensure its realization?

Furthermore, while they claim that Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) will be ₦40 million, this is a gross underestimation of Offa’s economic potential. Rather than putting in place a sustainable revenue strategy, this administration is depending on uncertain federal allocations and external sources that may never materialize.

A closer look at the budget allocations reveals several inflated projects and misplaced priorities. The chairman claims that the rehabilitation of Obada-Ring Road will cost ₦400 million, I won't be surprised if we can see similar road projects executed in neighboring LGs at far lower costs. This is a 1.1km of road and it's gulping N400m? What transparency measures are in place to ensure this project does not become a conduit for siphoning public funds?

We demand a detailed breakdown of how these funds will be spent to avoid wasteful spending.

Likewise, the ₦110 million earmarked for motorized boreholes raises questions. Which communities will benefit from this? How many boreholes will be constructed? What is the sustainability plan? The people of Offa deserve answers.

The ₦224 million allocation for classroom construction and renovation is inadequate, considering the dilapidated condition of many schools in the area.

Our children deserve better learning environments, yet this budget fails to prioritize the education sector adequately.

It is also laughable that the administration allocated a mere ₦15 million for the Offa Local Government Farm, an initiative they claim will drive food security and agricultural development. How does the APC government intend to make any meaningful impact in agriculture with such a paltry sum? Offa as a town and LG is the food basket of Kwara South and some parts of Osun State.

The people of Offa are facing serious economic hardship, yet this budget fails to provide direct social welfare programs to support struggling households.

The ₦160 million allocated to healthcare infrastructure is far from sufficient to address the numerous health challenges in our communities. Where are the provisions for free medical outreach programs, affordable healthcare services, or financial support for elderly and vulnerable citizens?

One of my biggest concerns is the APC government’s history of poor budget implementation and lack of transparency. Year after year, they present grand budgets, but little is done in reality.

The chairman boasted about renovating the Legislative Chamber, yet we all know that the council has not been functioning as an independent legislative body. Instead, it has become a mere rubber stamp for executive decisions, making a mockery of democracy.

The chairman spoke about his commitment to youth and economic empowerment, yet the budget allocates only ₦28 million for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

This amount is grossly inadequate to support the thousands of young entrepreneurs struggling to establish businesses. There is no provision for vocational training, digital skills development, or financial support for startups. The APC government is paying lip service to youth empowerment without any tangible plans to uplift our young people.

I want to make it abundantly clear that the PDP in Offa Local Government will not stand by while public funds are mismanaged.

We demand a thorough review of this budget by the Legislative Council before it is passed.

Budgeting is not about announcing big figures; it is about execution, transparency, and impact. The people of Offa deserve a government that prioritizes their needs rather than a government that uses the budget as a tool for political propaganda.

I call on all well-meaning citizens of Offa to remain vigilant and demand accountability from their leaders. The days of unchecked spending and deceptive budgeting must come to an end.

The people of Offa deserve real governance, not empty promises.

Nairaland General[OPINION] Naira-for-crude: A Double-edged Sword For Nigeria’s Economy by Ademola2003(op): 10:48am On Mar 25, 2025
By Adesina Quadri Ademola

The Federal Government’s decision to suspend the sale of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery under the Naira-for-crude policy has sparked concerns among oil marketers and industry stakeholders. While the policy was introduced to strengthen the local currency and promote economic stability, its suspension presents both opportunities and challenges for Nigeria’s energy sector and economy.

One of the key benefits of the Naira-for-crude policy is its potential to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on foreign exchange for oil transactions. By selling crude in Naira instead of dollars, the government aimed to ease pressure on forex reserves and stabilize the local currency. In an economy where forex scarcity often leads to inflation and a depreciating Naira, this initiative was a step toward financial resilience.

Additionally, prioritizing crude supply to local refineries like Dangote’s was expected to enhance domestic refining capacity, reducing the country’s reliance on costly fuel imports. Over time, this could have led to lower fuel prices, increased job opportunities, and a more self-sufficient energy sector. The policy also aligned with Nigeria’s broader push for economic diversification and local industrial growth.

Despite its intended benefits, the suspension of the policy has raised fears of a potential increase in fuel prices. If Dangote Refinery struggles to access crude oil domestically, it may have to purchase crude from the international market at dollar-denominated prices. This increased cost could then be transferred to consumers, leading to higher pump prices and inflationary pressures.

Furthermore, the suspension highlights a recurring issue in Nigeria’s economic landscape—policy inconsistency.

Frequent policy reversals create uncertainty for investors, both local and foreign, who require a stable regulatory environment for long-term investments.

If local refiners face uncertainties regarding crude supply, their ability to operate efficiently and competitively may be compromised.

Additionally, a shift back to exporting crude rather than refining it locally could mean Nigeria loses out on the economic benefits of value-added processing.

The long-standing practice of exporting crude oil only to import refined fuel has strained national resources, and reversing efforts to change this model could be detrimental in the long run.

To strike a balance, I urged the government to establish a clear and consistent policy framework that supports local refining without creating market distortions. If the Naira-for-crude policy is to continue, it should be accompanied by measures that guarantee a steady crude supply to local refiners at competitive rates.

Likewise, it will improve forex management strategies, which are essential to stabilizing the Naira without disrupting key industries.

Moreover, Nigeria’s oil and gas sector requires a well-structured approach that prioritizes economic stability, consumer welfare, and investor confidence. Whether through Naira-for-crude or alternative mechanisms, the government must ensure a policy framework that promotes local refining, guarantees affordable fuel prices, and fosters sustainable industrial growth.

PoliticsSaraki To Appear In Court On Monday Over Defamation Case by Ademola2003(op): 7:35pm On Feb 08, 2025
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki is set to testify in court on Monday, February 10, 2025, in a defamation case he filed against Olayinka Fafoluyi Solace, a senior special assistant to the Kwara State Governor on New Media.

The case, with suit number 9/4483/24, will be heard at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Sources indicate that Saraki has confirmed his intention to personally take the witness stand.

According to the writ of summons, Saraki alleges that Solace defamed him through a social media post linking him to the arrest of a known PDP supporter, Ojulari, who was caught with a firearm at a rally for an APC House of Representatives candidate during the 2023 general election. Saraki argues that Solace's claim that the gunman was his agent is both malicious and defamatory. He is seeking the removal of the post and N10 billion in damages, among other reliefs.

Solace has denied the allegations, maintaining that Ojulari is a well-known PDP thug affiliated with Saraki.

The law mandates Saraki to personally testify about the impact of the alleged defamation on his reputation.

The case comes amid past controversies involving Saraki, including a viral 2023 video in which he reportedly urged his supporters to use propaganda against the APC-led Kwara State government. Additionally, some political thugs who claimed ties to Saraki were recently sentenced to death for their roles in the 2018 Offa robbery, which resulted in the deaths of over 30 people, including police officers.

Nairaland GeneralStop Begging For My Release—self-determination Is Not A Crime, Says Nnamdi Kanu by Ademola2003(op): 7:11pm On Feb 08, 2025
The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has urged his supporters to stop pleading for his release, emphasizing that self-determination is not a crime.

Kanu maintains that he has not committed the treason charges levelled against him, arguing that the right to self-determination is protected under the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

His stance was outlined in a statement titled “Upholding the Rule of Law Is More Important to Me Than Anything Else,” released on Saturday by his legal team, led by Aloy Ejimakor.

While acknowledging the efforts of well-meaning Nigerians advocating for his freedom, Kanu insists that his release should not be framed as an act of clemency but rather as compliance with an existing court ruling that has declared his detention unconstitutional and unlawful.

He further noted that the Federal Government has the authority to end his detention by either complying with the court’s judgment or discontinuing his trial altogether.

Kanu urged those calling for his release to shift their approach, stressing that his advocacy for self-determination—wrongly interpreted by the government as a crime—is an inherent right recognized by Nigerian law, as well as by international legal frameworks, including those of the United Nations, the United Kingdom, and Kenya.

> “While those calling for my release mean well, framing it as a plea for pardon or clemency could send the wrong message—suggesting that the executive branch or even the judiciary can continue to violate the rule of law by sustaining my prosecution, despite its illegality under both Nigeria’s constitution and international treaties,” the statement read.

He advised supporters to adopt the diplomatic approach used by organizations such as Afenifere, Ohanaeze, the World Igbo Congress, senior members of the National Assembly, the American Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), Ambassadors for Self-Determination, and the international community, all of whom have clearly stated that he should be released because he has committed no legally recognized crime.

Kanu further argued that it is the Nigerian government—having subjected him to extraordinary rendition—that should be held accountable for violating international law.

> “If anyone should be pleading, it should be directed at the courts, urging them to handle my case and that of IPOB with impartiality, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law.”

He concluded by expressing gratitude to all those working tirelessly to restore peace, security, and stability in Igboland.

NYSCAdeleke Urges Corps Members: Think Twice Before Japa To Avoid Japada Struggles by Ademola2003(op): 3:44pm On Jan 24, 2025
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has urged corp members to avoid leaving the country in order to escape the pain of being stuck outside the country.

The Governor stated this while addressing Corp Members at the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 Orientation Programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, in Ede, Osun State.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, Governor Adeleke further admonished corp members to deploy their education to innovate on providing solutions to the many problems facing our society.

"As young leaders in the making, I charge you to seize the opportunities provided during this orientation course. Discipline, as we all know, is the foundation of success. Be law-abiding, focused, and fully committed to the ideals of the NYSC and our nation. Let your conduct here set the tone for a purposeful and fulfilling service year.

"Dear corps members, I encourage you to be exemplary ambassadors of your families, states, and our great nation, Nigeria. Embrace positive change with an open mind, for growth often lies in adaptability. As you interact with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, I urge you to uphold values of love, tolerance, selflessness, and friendship. Build meaningful relationship that transcend tribal and religious lines. The bonds you form here can foster lifelong unity and strengthen our collective resolve as Nigerians.

"Here in Osun State, we prioritize the welfare and development of our youths. Our administration has rolled out several youth-centric initiatives aimed at empowering and uplifting the younger generation. We remain committed to fostering creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Through these efforts, we are equipping the youth with tools to succeed in today’s competitive world, ensuring Osun remains a beacon of progress and development.

"On behalf of the people and Government of Osun state, I assure you of our unwavering support throughout your service year. We are dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and conducive environment for you to serve, learn, and thrive.

"Permit me to appeal to the young generation of Nigerians to take note of the new trend of "JAPADA ". The allure of "JAPA" has faded and it is now the reality of "JAPADA" that is gripping the migration space. Many new migrants are hurriedly returning home. Many who could not return are stuck in Diaspora misery.

"As educated people, we have a duty to study developments across Europe and North America. We should be conscious of tough times that plague new migrants abroad. We should no longer be victims of traffickers and syndicates. Now is the time to struggle it out at the home front for a successful future.

"I implore you all to deploy your education to innovate on providing solutions to the many problems facing our society. You must enter into entrepreneurial mode to be successful at home. You all have a duty to explore opportunities for survival from starting small to thriving in no distant future. Let us rise above "JAPA" syndrome to avoid the increasingly harsh reality of "JAPADA", the Governor stated.
