The event drew the attendance of notable dignitaries, including the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen, and his cabinet. In a keynote address that resonated deeply with the student community, Hon. Kamorudeen made a firm commitment to provide financial support for FIBSU students hailing from Lagelu. He pledged that within the next two months, eligible indigent students would begin receiving bursary payments. “Education is not just a privilege; it is a right. As Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, I am committed to ensuring that no brilliant student is left behind due to financial challenges. We will begin bursary disbursement within the next two months,” — Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen. His announcement was met with enthusiastic applause and widespread commendation, as many students saw the promise as a critical intervention in their academic journey. In addition to the bursary pledge, Hon. Kamorudeen used the platform to urge student involvement in political and civic life. He stressed the importance of youth participation in governance, describing students as both current changemakers and future leaders. “Don’t wait until after graduation to start shaping the future. Get involved, ask questions, take responsibility, and be the voice of the people. Politics is not a dirty game; it becomes dirty when good people stay away,” — he said. The FIBSU leadership expressed appreciation for the chairman’s gesture, describing it as evidence of responsive and student-friendly governance. They also welcomed his assurance to support all future FIBSU events, calling it a step toward sustainable student-government collaboration. The inauguration ceremony was marked by cultural performances, speeches, and a collective reaffirmation of FIBSU’s mission to champion the interests of Ibadan students. By Adesina Quadri Ademola A serious road accident on Tuesday along the Sanyo–Soka route of the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway has left four people dead and several others injured. The crash involved multiple vehicles, including four trailers, four commercial Micra taxis, and a Toyota Camry. Eyewitnesses said the incident began when a trailer reversing out of an abandoned filling station near Soka was hit by another oncoming trailer. This triggered a multiple collision, as three more trailers following closely rammed into the vehicles ahead, crushing several smaller cars in the process. One of the Micra vehicles was completely destroyed, resulting in the instant death of the driver and three passengers. A couple who had entered the taxi at Sanyo were also affected — the wife died on the scene, while the husband, seated in front, survived with light injuries. The accident was reported with a video by Success FM on their verified Facebook page. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at the scene to recover the remains of the victims and move the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. This incident is the sixth deadly crash reported in that axis this year alone, prompting calls for stricter safety measures and better enforcement of traffic rules along the expressway.

By Adesina Quadri Ademola From the neglected ruins of CAC Grammar School, Adesola in Ibadan, Oyo State, to the collapsing structures of L.G.E.A. Primary School, Ganuwa in Giwa LGA, Kaduna State, one thing is painfully clear Nigeria’s children are being failed by the very systems meant to secure their future. These are not isolated cases. They are not unfortunate anomalies. They are two shameful examples of a national crisis: public education is crumbling beneath layers of broken promises, inflated budgets, and misplaced priorities. Let’s start with Oyo State. At CAC Grammar School, Adesola, a block of classrooms destroyed by a windstorm years ago still lies in ruins. No roof. No windows. No desks. Pupils are now forced into overcrowded classrooms, sitting on bare floors in stifling conditions. And this is happening in the same state where ₦58.2 billion was allocated to education in 2023, ₦90.6 billion in 2024, and ₦145.3 billion proposed for 2025. Meanwhile, the government plans to spend ₦63 billion on renovating the Government House. Priorities? Now, let’s shift north to Kaduna. At L.G.E.A. Primary School in Ganuwa, over 196 pupils are learning in similarly degrading conditions. One classroom block has fully collapsed, while the remaining structures are unsafe and furniture-less. Despite three consecutive years of billion-naira budgets — ₦107.72 billion in 2023, ₦115.4 billion in 2024, and a whopping ₦206.6 billion in 2025, this school remains untouched, abandoned by both the state and local governments. Let’s be honest with ourselves: If billions are being budgeted for education and schools like these are still in ruins, then those budgets are either not being implemented or are being misdirected. This is not just a matter of poor infrastructure, it is a question of leadership, accountability, and political will. Why should a child in Ibadan or Ganuwa learn on a bare floor, while government houses are being upgraded and PR campaigns about educational transformation are being broadcast across the airwaves? We are not asking for luxury. We are demanding basic dignity; for a child to sit on a chair, under a roof, and receive quality learning in safety. To Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Uba Sani, this is a defining moment. The spotlight is now on your administrations — not in the boardrooms, but on the bare floors of those classrooms. These children are not invisible. Their suffering is not silent. Civic groups, journalists, and students are watching. And history is recording. You both have the opportunity to act decisively: Rebuild those schools. Equip them with basic learning materials. Make rural education a priority, not a political talking point. Failure to act will not just erode public trust — it will further deepen the gap between government promises and grassroots reality. And to the Nigerian people—parents, unions, activists, and community leaders-this is not the time for silence. We must demand more. We must hold leadership accountable. Because when a nation builds palaces for the powerful and leaves its children in ruins, that nation is not on a path to progress. It is on a path to collapse. The children of Adesola and Ganuwa are not asking for charity. They are asking for what is rightfully theirs; the right to learn with dignity. And until that right is fulfilled, no government can truly claim to be working.

By Adesina Quadri Ademola The President-Elect of the Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU), Comrade Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, has issued a scathing statement condemning the Oyo State Government over the continued neglect of CAC Grammar School, Adesola, in Ibadan South West Local Government, where pupils are learning in overcrowded, unsafe classrooms following the destruction of a block of classrooms by rainstorms years ago. The school, once a vibrant learning centre, now lies partially in ruins — with one block still roofless and windowless, overtaken by weeds and left abandoned despite years of public concern. In a strongly worded press release on Saturday, Giwa described the situation as a "moral crisis" and a "direct betrayal of the right to education" for Ibadan children. He criticised the government’s spending priorities, particularly the recently announced ₦63 billion earmarked for Government House renovation, calling it “insensitive and unjustifiable” in the face of decaying school infrastructure. > “This is not a political issue — this is a moral crisis,” Giwa said. “A government that neglects its public schools while investing tens of billions in elite comfort is sending a dangerous message to the next generation.” Civic technology group MonitNG had earlier raised alarm over the condition of the school during a recent on-site assessment, revealing that pupils are forced to crowd into the few remaining classrooms, many sitting on the floor due to a lack of desks and chairs. The report triggered widespread outrage on social media and within civil society circles. Despite boasting increased education budgets — ₦58.2 billion in 2023, ₦90.6 billion in 2024, and ₦145.3 billion proposed for 2025 — the state government has yet to take visible action on the school, further fuelling concerns about transparency and accountability in public spending. Giwa demanded the following from the state government: Immediate reconstruction of the damaged classroom block at CAC Grammar School, Provision of emergency learning materials and classroom furniture, A visit to the school by Governor Seyi Makinde or the Commissioner for Education within seven working days, A public audit of all schools claimed to be renovated under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme. “The children of Ibadan are not second-class citizens. If the government truly believes in education, it must begin by restoring dignity where it has been stripped away — in our public schools,” Giwa added. The Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU), a powerful indigenous student body, has pledged to continue monitoring the situation and hold the government accountable. As public scrutiny intensifies, attention now turns to the Oyo State Government to see whether it will act swiftly — or remain silent in the face of rising anger and collapsing classrooms.

In commemoration of the 2025 World Sickle Cell Day, the Kudirat Adebisi Oyawoye Foundation has launched a four-day outreach programme aimed at raising awareness and providing essential healthcare services to residents of select communities in Kwara State. Themed “Shining the Light on Sickle Cell Disease (Adebisi, Know Your Status),” the event kicked off today at the Basic Health Centre in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area, and is scheduled to continue at health centres in Oke-Odo, Ipee, and Esie in Irepodun LGA. The initiative features free sickle cell screening, ABO blood typing, malaria testing and treatment, games, and health education, with a focus on breaking the stigma associated with sickle cell disease and encouraging early genotype awareness. Speaking at the Ijagbo outreach, Co-founder of the Foundation, Ms Fatima Oyawoye, emphasized the goal of the programme. “We are here today to educate people in different communities in Kwara State about sickle cell,” she said. “It’s to allay the fear and stigma surrounding the disease and make people more aware of their genotype.” Now in its fifth year, the Foundation’s annual sickle cell awareness campaign has tested over 10,000 individuals across various locations in the state. This year, the team is targeting an additional 1,000 residents, with a daily outreach goal of 350 people per location. Oyawoye stressed the importance of empowering individuals living with sickle cell disorder. “For individuals living with sickle cell, they should understand that it’s not a cage,” she said. “You can do whatever you want to do in life, achieve all your goals and succeed. You are allowed to live your life to the fullest.” Community members, health workers, and volunteers turned out in good numbers on the first day of the programme, engaging in consultations and receiving health information in an interactive and relaxed atmosphere that also included games and music. The outreach continues across Oyun and Irepodun LGAs in the coming days, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to community-based healthcare, inclusive education, and the fight against stigma in sickle cell advocacy.

The Democratic Youth Federation of Nigeria (DYFN), under the leadership of its Ibadan State Coordinator, Comrade Adesina Quadri Ademola, has strongly condemned the ongoing spate of killings in Benue State, urging the federal government to take decisive action to end the bloodshed and restore order in the region. In a press statement released on Monday, Comrade Ademola described the continued attacks on innocent civilians as “a gross violation of human rights and a tragic indictment on the current state of national security.” “As youths and democratic defenders, we cannot remain silent while our fellow Nigerians are being slaughtered in their homes,” Comrade Ademola said. “The government must rise beyond empty condemnations and deploy actionable intelligence, community-driven security initiatives, and full-scale accountability to stop these atrocities.” He stressed that young Nigerians are increasingly disillusioned by the government’s failure to secure lives and property, especially in agrarian communities like those in Benue. “These killings are not isolated—they are part of a larger failure in the system. Every unprotected village is a reminder that Nigeria is still far from its promise of unity and security,” he added. The DYFN Ibadan chapter called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently reassess the nation’s security architecture, strengthen grassroots intelligence networks, and prioritize the safety of rural populations who are most vulnerable to attacks. Comrade Ademola also announced that the Federation would be hosting a youth policy roundtable in Ibadan next week to brainstorm sustainable strategies for youth involvement in national peacebuilding and rural protection frameworks. “Our voice must not only be loud; it must be organized, solution-driven, and relentless. We owe it to our generation and the ones after us to demand a safer Nigeria,” he concluded. The Federation also urged fellow youth organizations across the country to mobilize and speak out, insisting that silence in the face of systemic violence is complicity.

The National leadership of the Association of Female Comrades (AFC) has strongly condemned the recent killings in Benue State, describing the continued violence against civilians as “barbaric, unacceptable, and a stain on the conscience of the nation.” Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the National President of the association, Comrade Muniretu Isah, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and called on the federal government to take immediate and decisive action to protect citizens across the country, particularly in conflict-prone communities. “We are devastated by the recurring killings in Benue State,” Comrade Isah said. “This is no longer a crisis of insecurity alone—this is a humanitarian emergency. Women, children, and entire families are being wiped out. As a female-led association, we are particularly disturbed by the gendered impact of this violence—women are widowed, children are orphaned, and communities are destabilized.” The AFC president emphasized that the time for rhetoric had passed, urging President Bola Tinubu and all relevant security agencies to intervene swiftly with lasting solutions. “We demand that the government step up intelligence gathering, deploy adequate security forces, and bring the perpetrators to justice,” she added. Also speaking during the briefing, the Vice President of the association, Comrade Lateef Taiwo Soffiyah, echoed similar concerns and emphasized the need for an inclusive national response. “We are tired of offering condolences every other week,” Comrade Soffiyah said. “The people of Benue are Nigerians too, and they deserve to live in peace. The government must ensure that rural communities are not forgotten and that justice is served. Our association is ready to work with civil society and government stakeholders to ensure that this issue remains in the national consciousness until real action is taken.” The AFC further announced plans to stage a nationwide solidarity march in the coming weeks to draw broader attention to the crisis and pressure key decision-makers into implementing sustainable security reforms. The association called on fellow activists, civil society organizations, and all well-meaning Nigerians to rise against the normalization of mass killings, particularly in rural areas where state protection is minimal.

In an era where performance should trump populism and character should override charisma, Osun State finds itself at a crossroads. The state, blessed with vibrant human capital, natural resources, and a deep historical legacy, continues to struggle under the weight of misaligned priorities, governance inconsistency, and underutilized potential. Yet, among the few who have risen above mere rhetoric to offer real substance is a man who symbolizes discipline, legal brilliance, and ideological clarity: Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, SAN, affectionately and famously known as K-Rad. It is not for nothing that his admirers call him “Kunle Radical.” That name, born in the furnace of student activism and ideological engagement, has matured into an emblem of principled resistance to the status quo and a commitment to transformative change. For Osun State, long in need of technocratic leadership with ethical depth, K-Rad presents a timely answer. Born in Osogbo on September 5, 1969, Kunle Adegoke's early life was shaped by struggle, study, and service. From his days at the University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos where he defied authoritarianism in academia at great personal cost to becoming a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2020, K-Rad has walked a path marked by resilience, intellect, and a commitment to justice. His legal journey has not been ornamental. He cut his teeth in top-tier chambers such as Olaniwun Ajayi LLP and M.A. Banire & Associates before founding Kunle Adegoke & Co., a firm that has handled some of the most consequential election petition litigations across Nigeria. From Atiku v. Buhari to landmark gubernatorial disputes, K-Rad has not just argued cases; he has helped shape the jurisprudence around democracy and electoral justice. What separates K-Rad from the typical “politician” is his ideas-based approach to governance. He has not built his public image on inflated promises or empty sloganeering. Instead, he speaks of economic revitalization, public-private synergy, educational reform, infrastructure renewal, and tourism development. His roadmap isn’t mere aspiration; it is a structured, data-backed development plan rooted in fiscal realism and institutional integrity. K-Rad’s professional acumen has seen him advise state governments on major bond issuance programmes like the ₦100 billion Lagos Bond, Osun State’s Sukuk, and others. These are projects requiring technical expertise and financial discipline. These credentials are not hypothetical; they are demonstrable. Osun has had its share of charismatic leaders. But what it desperately needs now is a manager, a reformer, and a planner. With his pedigree in law, economics, and governance strategy, K-Rad embodies the fusion of technical knowledge and moral uprightness, a rarity in today’s political landscape. At a time when governance is more about performance metrics than populist slogans, the state cannot afford another experiment in trial-and-error leadership. K-Rad’s meticulousness and clarity of purpose are reminiscent of the types of leaders who have transformed formerly stagnant territories into thriving economies. In declaring his intention to contest the 2026 gubernatorial election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), K-Rad has once again submitted himself to public scrutiny, not for personal aggrandizement, but in the conviction that Osun deserves better leadership than it has had in recent years. His candidacy is not just a political offering; it is a call to citizens of conscience to rally around competence, vision, and integrity. We must ask ourselves: do we want to continue being governed by those who see public service as reward, or those who see it as responsibility? Do we want leaders who are made by godfathers, or those who are made by grit and grounded in governance? As a technocrat and an indigene of Osun State who has watched from within and afar the disillusionment that has gripped our civil service, our infrastructure, our education, and our youths, We are persuaded that Kunle ‘K-Rad’ Adegoke SAN is not just a choice for Osun State in 2026;§he is the right choice. This is not an endorsement of party but of principle. Not a vote for ambition but for capacity. It is time Osun rose beyond politics of stomach infrastructure and embraced visionary governance. Kunle ‘K-Rad’ Adegoke represents that possibility. And if given the mandate, he just might turn that possibility into our reality. Adesina Quadri Ademola is a correspondent of News Bulletin Nigeria

In the vast garden of humanity, some roses bloom in the face of adversity, towering iroko trees that offer shade in times of distress, and burning lamps that illuminate the path for generations yet unborn. Today, with a heart steeped in pride and gratitude, I raise my voice not as a mere herald of words but as a witness to greatness, to extol a man whose footsteps echo with purpose — a benefactor of the Nigerian student community and a pillar of youthful transformation, now about to ascend to a revered chieftaincy stool in his homeland. Honourable Akintonwa Segun, an Indigene of Ewekoro local government of Ogun State, is a man of honour whose good deeds will always be noticed among Nigerian Youth and Various Communities in Ogun State. They say, “A river that forgets its source will surely dry up.” It is with this consciousness that we, as the collective conscience of Nigerian students, honour a man who has never turned his back on his roots, nor forgotten the faces of those who look up to him. In seasons of scarcity, he has been the rain. In times of confusion, he has been the compass. To the students and youths scattered across this federation, his name resounds like a victory drum — steady, reassuring, and ever-present. To some, he is a philanthropist; to others, a father. But to us, the students and youth of this great nation, he is a ladder — a man who bends so others may climb. He has invested not just in buildings but in brains, not just in applause but in impact. From providing scholarship support to sponsoring youth initiatives, from mentoring rising leaders to championing progressive causes, he has walked the long road with us. He is a testament to the saying, “He who plants trees knowing he may never sit under their shade is a true leader.” Now, as fate prepares to crown him with a chieftaincy title — a deserved honour bestowed by his people — it is not only a recognition of his cultural value but a thunderous applause from history itself. For when the child washes his hands clean, he dines with elders; and when a man clothes the naked and feeds the hungry, the gods themselves anoint him. This is no ordinary man. This is a man whose humility rivals the earth’s patience, whose wisdom flows like a spring unblocked, and whose heart beats not just for today but for the future. "A goldfish has no hiding place," and truly, his good works have found him out and brought him before kings. On this note; we say without fear of contradiction: the community that honours such a man has done well. His chieftaincy title is not just a feather in his cap; it is a torch in his hand, and we are convinced that he will use it to light even more paths and lead with even greater clarity when given the opportunity. Let every youth take courage. Let every student take hope. For in this man, we see what is possible — that service is not folly, that generosity is not weakness, and that those who sow in sincerity shall reap in dignity. Signed, Comrade Lateef Sofiyah Taiwo Vice President Association of Female Comrades National

The President-Elect of the Federation of Ibadan Students’ Unions (FIBSU), Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident that claimed the lives of athletes from Kano State, who were returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State. In a condolence message released on Saturday, Aare Giwa described the incident as a painful and heartbreaking loss, not just to Kano State, but to the entire Nigerian student and youth community. “It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of these promising young athletes whose lives were cut short in such a devastating manner,” he said. “They represented the strength, talent, and unity that sports bring to our nation. Their loss is a national tragedy.” Aare Giwa extended his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, the Kano State government, and Nigeria’s sporting community. As the President-elect of the Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU), I, Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, write to urgently call the attention of the Oyo State Government to the deplorable state of St. Luke Primary School in Molete, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area. It is both painful and disheartening to witness the level of neglect that has reduced this government-owned school to near ruins. A block of two classrooms has become completely unusable after a recent windstorm tore off the roof. The ceilings are falling apart, the walls are visibly cracked, and the classrooms lack even the most basic furniture—no desks, no chairs—leaving over 86 young pupils to either sit on the floor or stand throughout the school day. This is not just a matter of poor infrastructure; it is a failure of duty—a denial of the children’s right to safe, quality education. No child should be subjected to such inhumane learning conditions in a state that prides itself on educational advancement. While we appreciate the state government’s public commitments to educational reform, I must stress that real reform is not measured by announcements or policies, but by tangible improvements in schools like St. Luke. True reform must be seen and felt—in classrooms with stable roofs, intact walls, available furniture, and an atmosphere that supports learning. On behalf of FIBSU and the wider student community, I respectfully call on His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to prioritise and fast-track a full-scale rehabilitation of St. Luke Primary School. A temporary fix will not suffice. What this school needs is a comprehensive reconstruction to restore its function, dignity, and safety. The children affected cannot afford to wait. Their dreams should not be buried beneath broken ceilings and crumbling walls. Their future must not be compromised by administrative delay or lack of political will. This is a passionate appeal for action—swift, sincere, and sustained. Education remains the bedrock of development, and no society progresses by turning a blind eye to the plight of its youngest learners. Signed, Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale President-Elect Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU)

In a bold step to promote menstrual health awareness and support young women, the Office of the National Vice President of the Association of Female Comrades (AFC), in collaboration with the Office of the SUG Vice President, College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero Ekiti, hosted a special event to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day. Held at the College of Health Science and Technology, the program formed part of the Community Care Initiative (Southwest Edition 1.0) — a targeted outreach aimed at equipping female students with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to manage their menstrual health effectively. Over 500 female students benefited from the distribution of free sanitary pads during the event, alongside a series of engaging activities including hygiene education sessions and a quiz competition focused on menstrual health. Winners of the quiz received cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding knowledge and participation. Guest speakers included Lady Comrade Oluchi Joy, the National Director of Gender, NAPS, and Lady Comrade Adegbite Teniola, who both delivered insightful presentations on the importance of menstrual hygiene and the role education plays in empowering women. “This event is not just about distributing pads — it’s about building confidence, breaking taboos, and ensuring that no girl is held back because of her period,” said Lady Comrade Lateef Taiwo Sofiyah (Empress), the National Vice President of the Association of Female Comrades. Program Highlights: Menstrual Hygiene Enlightenment Sessions: Educating students on proper menstrual care and debunking common myths. Sanitary Pad Distribution: 500 students received menstrual hygiene products. Quiz Competition: A knowledge-based contest with cash prizes to reward academic excellence and awareness. Objectives: To raise awareness of menstrual hygiene among students. To provide essential resources like sanitary pads. To empower young women through education and support. Special commendation was extended to Lady Comrade Onabanjo Victoria, the Ekiti State AFC Coordinator, and Lady Comrade Bamidele Taiwo, SUG Vice President of the host institution, for their vital roles in organizing the program. Their leadership and commitment were key to the event’s success. As the event concluded, the organizers reaffirmed their commitment to building a more period-friendly world, where every girl and woman can thrive without stigma or limitation. “Menstrual hygiene is a right, not a privilege,” Lady Comrade Sofiyah added. “And together, we can ensure that right is upheld — one student, one pad, and one conversation at a time.”
