The attention of the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of its Chairman, Sunday Bisi, has been drawn to a laughable and poorly scripted media report credited to a faceless group parading itself as “concerned stakeholders” within the party, claiming that there is a factional crisis in the PDP in Osun State and appealing to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to intervene. Ordinarily, such a piece of political comedy would not deserve the dignity of a response from a focused entity like Osun PDP. However, in order to prevent unsuspecting members of the public from being misled by these professional political scammers, we consider it necessary to set the record straight. First and foremost, there is nothing like a faction within the PDP in Osun State. What exists are a handful of political jobbers and serial opportunists who have built a reputation around deceit, manipulation, and the shameless exploitation of innocent people for personal financial gain. These are individuals whose only business in politics is to create confusion, manufacture crises, and present themselves as contractors of chaos in order to milk unsuspecting political benefactors, whose objective align on the altar of some brisk deception. It is therefore not surprising that these same characters are now desperately trying to drag the name of Nyesom Wike into their latest fraudulent enterprise. Their intention is clear to everyone who understands the political terrain of Osun State: they are merely looking for another avenue to dupe the former governor and exploit his goodwill for their selfish agenda. The PDP in Osun State wishes to reiterate that anyone claiming to be “aggrieved” should first explain to the public what exactly their grievance is. Is their grievance that the party refused to become a vehicle for pick-pocketing public resources? Is their grievance that the party refused to mortgage the wellbeing of the people of Osun State by allowing a candidate who was entrapped into a political game that is now moribund as a result of the crisis instigated by the same selfish element who exported a failed party primary experiment from Ibadan into Osun? The leadership of the PDP has already explained, clearly and repeatedly, the circumstances that made it impossible for the party to present a governorship candidate in the forthcoming election. The good people of Osun State understand these realities and also understand the overriding necessity that informed the collective decision of our party to support our performing Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, to seek his well-deserved re-election on the platform of the Accord. This decision was taken in the overall interest of the people of Osun State and in order to prevent the state from being plunged back into the dark era of political manipulation and anti-people governance. Those now issuing empty threats of defection or shedding crocodile tears under the banner of the PDP were never genuine members of the party to begin with. They are well-known political undertakers in Osun’s political hemisphere. They are the same political adultrers, whose loyalty is not to any party or ideology but strictly to the next available table of greed. For the avoidance of doubt, these are the same characters who did everything within their treacherous arsenal to stop Governor Ademola Adeleke from emerging as the Governor of Osun State from the very beginning. They are the same elements who consistently aligned themselves with external political forces, including collaborators within Oyo State, in their desperate attempt to destabilize the PDP in Osun and weaken the democratic will of the people. Ironically, these same dubious actors who repeatedly connived with avowed enemies of Osun to undermine the PDP are now the ones deceitfully crying wolf and begging Nyesom Wike for intervention. Their latest outburst is nothing more than a poorly disguised attempt to lay the foundation for their already concluded mission to work against Governor Adeleke in the forthcoming governorship election. But as history has repeatedly shown, their sinister plots will once again fail spectacularly. The PDP in Osun State remains united, focused, and resolute behind the leadership and performance-driven administration of Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke. We therefore call on the good people of Osun State to disregard the noise of these unscrupulous elements and remain steadfast in the collective mission to consolidate the visible gains and people-oriented development that the state has witnessed under Governor Adeleke. The task before us is clear: to mobilise massively across every ward, local government, and community to ensure the resounding re-election of Governor Adeleke on August 15, 2026, and to permanently reject the politics of greed, sabotage, and treachery represented by these political scavengers.

…says his push for data-driven security reform will strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism Green Lunar Nigeria Limited has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment and Senate confirmation of General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.) as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday and personally signed by Chief Executive Officer of Green Lunar Nigeria Limited, Olaniyi Odina. He said the choice of the former Chief of Defence Staff reflects President Tinubu’s clear intention to place competence, discipline, and strategic experience at the heart of Nigeria’s security management. According to him, Gen. Musa’s long-standing record of service, particularly as a frontline commander in the fight against insurgency, makes him “one of the most qualified Nigerians to oversee the delicate and demanding portfolio of Defence at this critical time.” Odina particularly commended the newly confirmed Defence Minister for his emphasis on data collection, intelligence integration, and digitization of Nigeria’s security architecture. “General Musa’s insistence on modernizing our security operations through data-driven intelligence and digital platforms is a game-changer. These ideas will boost the effectiveness of our agencies, enhance real-time information sharing, and ultimately strengthen our national response to terrorism, banditry, and other emerging threats,” he said. He added that the era of analogue tactics cannot meet the sophistication of today’s security challenges, adding that a technology-powered approach (such as the one Musa has proposed) will place Nigeria on a stronger footing in combating violent extremism. Furthermore, Odina expressed confidence that General Musa’s reforms especially in intelligence coordination, digital surveillance, and inter-agency synergy will yield tangible improvements. He also praised President Tinubu for demonstrating bold leadership by nominating a career military professional with firsthand battlefield knowledge. “President Tinubu has again shown that he understands the urgency of Nigeria’s security concerns. By appointing a disciplined, experienced and forward-thinking officer like General Musa, the President has given the country renewed hope,” he said. The Green Lunar boss urged Nigerians to support the new Defence Minister as he assumes office. He concluded by calling for full cooperation among security agencies, civilian authorities, and local communities to ensure the success of the new minister’s mission.

She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death. Mrs. Akinola’s passing adds to a growing list of female local government officials in Lagos State who have died in the short period since the inauguration of the present council administration on July 27, 2025. On August 13, Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government died just weeks after her swearing-in. Barely five days later, on August 18, Councillor Zainab Shotayo of Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA also passed away. The cycle of losses continued in September when Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, died on September 20, followed by the death of Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, on September 21. Her death, coming so soon after these others, has deepened the sense of grief and shock across Lagos councils, with many describing the string of tragedies as unprecedented in the state’s local government system. May we not witness this Unpleasant episode again in our dear party again. We pray for divine guidance and wisdom for all APC leaders and public servants in Lagos State and Nigeria, that they may serve with integrity and dedication, making a positive impact in their communities. By Adesina Quadri Ademola The tragic passing of popular skit maker, Sanku, in a ghastly accident along the Oyo–Ogbomoso expressway has once again laid bare a disturbing trend in our society—the cold detachment with which many Nigerians respond to emergencies. Rather than rushing to save lives, too many bystanders now instinctively reach for their mobile phones, eager to capture content rather than preserve humanity. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that several passersby were more interested in recording the accident's aftermath than in rendering first aid or calling emergency responders. Clips of Sanku’s final moments flooded social media within minutes, even before his family had been officially informed. This is not just distasteful—it is dehumanising. What does it say about us that we are quicker to chase “likes” than to lend a helping hand? Our parents and forebears lived in communities where solidarity and prompt intervention were sacred. Today, the omnipresence of smartphones and the thirst for viral content have chipped away at that communal spirit. Beyond morality, this culture of indifference has grave consequences. Precious lives are lost within the golden hour of emergencies—the critical period when immediate assistance could spell the difference between life and death. Sanku’s case, sadly, is not the first, nor will it be the last, if this trend persists. This nation must have a rethink. There is an urgent need for reorientation campaigns to remind citizens that no viral video can ever replace a lost life. The government equally invests in public education on first aid, emergency hotlines, and swift medical response systems. But at the heart of it all, Nigerians must rediscover empathy—choosing to be their brother’s keeper rather than social media’s next content creator. Sanku’s death should not be in vain. Let it be a wake-up call to return to our values of communal care, where saving a life trumps filming one. For incidents of crisis, history will not judge us by the quality of the footage we shared, but by the humanity we showed.

The Association of Female Comrades (AFC) has intensified its advocacy against social vices as its Southwest leadership, in collaboration with the Osun State chapter, staged an awareness walk at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, on Tuesday. The campaign, which drew a significant turnout of students and stakeholders, centred on raising consciousness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV), femicide, and ritual killings—issues the organisers described as destructive to the fabric of society. Participants carried placards, chanted solidarity songs, and engaged students on the need to foster respect, tolerance, and a culture that values human life. Speaking at the rally, the AFC Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Lady Comrade Lateef Taiwo Sofiyah Empress, said the walk was a call to action against crimes that continue to claim lives, silence victims, and perpetuate injustice. “Gender-Based Violence and femicide are not just private matters; they are societal issues that demand urgent attention. Our campaign challenges harmful norms and seeks to inspire equality and justice,” she declared. The Zonal Coordinator also condemned ritual killings, describing them as “heinous crimes that must be eradicated through strong advocacy, awareness, and accountability.” The event had the support of key stakeholders on campus. The Dean of Students Affairs, Dr Mutiu Agboola, was commended for providing a platform to engage the student body. The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President and his team were also lauded for their presence and commitment to the cause. In recognition of his contributions, Dr Agboola was honoured with an award presented by the AFC Osun State Coordinator and her team. Lady Comrade Sofiyah Empress affirmed that the Association of Female Comrades would sustain its campaign across the region, urging more chapters and individuals to take a stand. “Together, we can rise, speak up, and create a safer society where human life is valued and protected. This struggle must continue until our campuses and communities are free from fear and violence,” she said.

By Adesina Quadri Ademola Nigeria has lost one of its trailblazers in science, Dr (Mrs) Oreoluwa A. Salau, the country’s first female meteorologist. She passed away on Friday, August 30, 2025, at the age of 73. Dr Salau was a pioneer whose work broke barriers and expanded knowledge in the field of atmospheric science. Her research and teaching not only advanced Nigeria’s understanding of weather and climate but also safeguarded lives—particularly in aviation—through the training she gave to pilots and meteorologists. Her daughter, Dr Adetola Ariyike Salau, Special Adviser on STEMM Education and Corporate Sector Engagement to the Minister of Education, described her late mother as a woman of excellence, faith, and quiet strength. “Mummy was my first role model,” she said in a tribute. “She showed me that women can break barriers and still live with grace, faith and service. Her life remains a blessing, and her memory will forever be a guiding light for me, for our family, and for the generations after us.” The late Dr Salau was remembered not only as a scientist but also as a devoted mother, grandmother, and mentor. Her career was a testament to resilience and brilliance, inspiring countless young people, especially women, to pursue careers in science. At last year’s World Girl Child Day in Omupo, Kwara State, her daughter had publicly celebrated her as one of the great women whose lives continue to inspire the world. “When we wake up and check our phones to see if it will rain or not, it is people like her who made that knowledge possible,” Dr Adetola recalled. “She studied the clouds, the skies, and trained others so that journeys could be safe.” For many, Dr Oreoluwa Salau’s story will remain a symbol of what is possible when courage meets purpose. She is survived by children, grandchildren, and a legacy that transcends generations.

In every culture, in every society, one truth remains universal: a mother is a blessing that no one can replace. She is the first teacher, the silent nurturer, and the tireless protector who shapes lives long before children understand the depth of her sacrifices. From the early stages of life, mothers embody the very essence of love and selflessness. They wake before dawn, often carrying burdens in silence, just to make life a little easier for their families. Their sacrifices are hardly recorded in history books, yet their impact is written on the hearts of generations. Psychologists affirm that a mother’s role goes beyond feeding and sheltering. She instils values, builds confidence, and nurtures resilience. A kind word from a mother can heal a wounded spirit, while her discipline instils character that endures into adulthood. This dual role of tenderness and firmness is a delicate balance only a mother can sustain. Sadly, in the hustle of modern life, society sometimes forgets to acknowledge the irreplaceable gift of mothers. Many young people take their guidance for granted, only to realise their worth when it is too late. Tradition reminds us, however, that those who honour their mothers secure not only blessings for themselves but also stability for the society at large. Religious texts echo the same sentiment. In Christianity, Islam, and African traditional beliefs, the mother is elevated as a custodian of destiny. She is seen as the pillar whose prayers, blessings, and sacrifices pave the way for her children’s success. Educators stress that teaching young people to respect and value their mothers is not just about morality but about preserving humanity itself. A society that honours its mothers builds stronger families, and stronger families create a stable nation. As the saying goes, “You never miss the water until the well runs dry.” In the same way, the love of a mother cannot be replaced by wealth, status, or even friendship. It is a bond woven into the very fabric of human existence. Therefore, whether young or old, rich or poor, let us remember that appreciating our mothers is not a favour but a duty. For indeed, a mother is not just a blessing — she is the blessing that no one can ever replace.

Also, the Chief Executive Officer of D-Positive Global Image Services Consult, Mallam Nasir Abdulquadri, stressed that public trust in security agencies must be rebuilt through transparency, accountability, and empathy. He advocated the establishment of human rights desks in every security formation across the country. In his farewell remarks, outgoing Kwara CDHR Chairman, Comrade Afolabi Lukman, recounted the chapter’s human rights interventions in the past four years, including support for victims of gender-based violence and collaboration with law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations.
