Great post, I give you thumb up for the write up, lots of job seeker do limit themselves focusing all their energy on jobs that may not come their way easily or are too competitive for them to beat down any competitor. While not find something that you have passion for and start doing ousomething about while still searching for job. Although I may not really blame them that much, I will put much of the blame on the educational system we run in the country, where we believe that just get a degree and you can work in any organization as far as you're Nigerian graduate. It's a wrong misconception that rub off the actual qualities in Nigerian graduate. Nobody will teach you how to be successful in school, both relevant and irrelevant things will just be packed into your brain. Until you finish from school before you will realized that what is outside there is a different story story. As the initiator of this post rightly said up there, look for where you can be helpful for the time being, do proper networking as this has the highest percentage of chances of getting a job, it's about 80% compare to the online job board everybody just focused and make it highly competitive. For me, I will personally add this to it, don't underestimate your passion, what you like best, what you admire and desire, they are the sure-bet to make you successful in life. Don't wait until you have enough money before going after you passion, start small today and tomorrow you will look back and see that you've actually taken a giant step yesterday. Where the world is going now, it will reach a stage where there will be no more job but there will be enough services, it's what you get to offer that will make you more money than you can think. Blue collar job is much more prefer this days than white collar job |
Hmnnn! It is good to have such grade coupled with such numbers of years of experiences but that part of the country may not offer you that much opportunities, even those that are in area where opportunities abound ain't find it easy. But you can do yourself a favour if the job in not coming forth, use your knowledge as in Library and Information Science to look for area where you can be self employed. Look at the people around you and see what you can use that knowledge to help them solve their problem by searching for information that put an end to their problem. It is only in helping people that we can help ourselves to make money for a living. Don't get frustrated anyway for not getting the job you wanted, just keep a positive attitude to life and don't forget to pray for luck. |

Doing what you love and have passion for, will always keep you younger. That is the secret of their looks. |

I want to categorically state it here that, CV template will hurt more than it will help you. Follow me now as I listed out top 9 reasons why you should not use online CV template and just one reason why you should make use of them. Here they are: Top 9 Reasons Why You Should Not Use Online CV Template 1. Most of the online CV templates are outdated; they have been created over ten years ago and are no more relevant in today’s job hunt. 2. Using them will restrict you to follow their pattern which is not good for you at all 3. Using online CV template can never bring out the best in your and will never do that for you. 4. Don’t even go near the ones that has table in it; it will frustrate your life and leave you with disjointed CV and regression. 5. As different job require different CV template, it will take you long, long time to be able to make another CV for different job application and that is why lots of graduates use just only one CV to apply for all available job vacancies out there. Nobody will employ you with untailored CV. 6. Using online CV template will never make you to stand out because that is exact template most people use for their CV. This means that you’re not creative. 7. Online CV template will not help you to keep up with the industrial trend. You will always be a laggard, outdate, uninformed and not current at all. What work today may not work tomorrow. 8. Online CV template will miss-represent you and you should be aware that your CV is the real you represented on paper. You don’t waste your year in higher institution, so why must you get yourself misrepresented with online CV template. 9. Recruiters or Employer easily found out that you make use of pre-formatted CV which will put you in a disadvantage for the job you’re applying for. The Only One Reason To Use Online Cv Template 1. Use them to guide yourself, to practice and learn how to write it independently on your own. JUST USE THEM AS YOUR GUIDE. Your resume speaks for you when you are not there to do the talking. Your resume should play up your expertise and qualifications, but at the same time it communicates softer qualities such as your style, attention to detail, ability to communicate, English skills and commitment to quality. I read so many people's comments here with dismay. It is time for us to grow up in our thinking; two wrong head can never make one right head. For the fact that many don't use CV to get job doesn't remove the important of CV writing. Don't be caught on aware please. You may not have anybody who will connect to any better job but you have your CV which is the powerful instrument you possess. Do you part and let God do His own part too. I have seen where people are sent packing because of the wrong way they enter into their well-paid job simply because the person that link them up to the job is no more in the company. I know that we Nigerian can survive in any given lucrative job and that account for why someone that studied Arabic is doing well in the banking system and also a friend of mine that studies Yoruba is doing wonderful currently with MTN now. But we still need to play our part. Just little correction in what she posted above, don't pull down your educational qualification if you're not that experience (Fresh Graduate Take Note). But if you're highly experienced, your experience comes immediately after your profile, this is because the more experience you have the lesser your educational qualification. That is why you will see those lucrative jobs in managerial position requiring for 10 to 15 years plus experience, they know that many possess the educational qualification but how many got such experience as still want to change job. They need your experience more because you'll bring in great innovation in no time into their company. The important of CV cannot be overemphasized. And if you're one those that still believe that CV don't work here in Nigeria, you better not even prepare any CV, don't even go sch at all and wait for God grace. DON'T BE LAZY! If you don't know things please ask question. Nobody will punish you for asking questions. The bottom line is that, your CV speaks so much about you and your cover letter is your sales copy, is your advertising copy that tell employer to come grab you before anyone else does because you're too hot right now. |
bgates: GOD BLESS U ALL FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS....Your picture should disappear from it, it is only in France and Germany as far as I know for now that make use of picture in their CV. The employer may not like your face o Lol. Put your email and phone number under your address above, Remove the personal information asap Rearrange your CV by putting you either your qualification or Experiences first. Education if you have less experince and experience not relating to the company you're applying. New graduates are always advise to put their educational qualification first with CGPA if you have more than 3.0 Nigerian now have beging to adopt UK and other developed country concerning the listing of personal information like date of birth, religion and the rest because of discrimination issues. Just remove that personal information completly and replace it with personal profile if you know how to write it to grab employer's attention otherwise just ignore that part. Focus on one type of bulleted list you use there (., -, *)and remove your skill from the from. it should be ability and skill The way you write your skill is too generic, modify it toward the company's positional job description you're apply for. You've succeeded in listing responsibilities in your CV and not achievement. Nobody want to see your irresponsibility, all recruiters want is your accomplishment or achievement. Listing responsibilities only mean you just do only the job you're given without doing anything extra to earn applauds from your employer. Remove your reference and make your CV one page bro. Your reference don't make meaning at this state now because employer will not consult them without your consent. Wait until you get to the interview stage, that is when they will have your time to look for such thing. Just take your time to rearrange everything. All best bro. |
You need to tailor your CV to the specific job you want to apply for, this your CV is just a generic one that does not meant for a particular job position. No employer will call you with this type of CV, that is the truth except through divine intervention. Things to change in your CV 1. Your Objective statement can’t caught recruiter’s attention, you need to redefine it and tailor it toward the specific job you’re applying for. If you cannot do it well, it is better to ignore it because that is first thing employer will see and it can determine where your CV will be place. (of interest or not of interest) 2. Your name, address and your email are not well-aligned, please try to justify them instead of the right align I can see in there in your CV. 3. Your font size is not consistent apart from your name which is expected to be of larger font, every other font there should be the same. Writing with different font shows that you’re not organized. I would advise you to use Verdana with 10 points or Times New Roman with 11 or 12 points. Leave spacing with 1.0. From your CV here you have up to 4 different font type or face (Cambria, Calibri, Bookman Old Style, verdana) 4. Please remove the personal data because it is not necessary, it just eaten up space in your CV. Employer need to see the information that will help them sort out CV as fast as possible within 20 – 30 seconds. Except otherwise stated you don’t need them there 5. I can see that you use chronological type of CV format which is good for someone with less experience but the way you arrange your educational career is not too good, it even eat up much space in your CV, and those spaces could have been used for some more important information. 6. With your experience level, you CV should not be more than one page. It is advisable not to have more than one page when you have an experience that is less than 5 years. This is the reason why you need to match your CV with the available job position and remove any qualification that does not go with the job you’re applying for. 7. In your experiences listing, you’re only telling recruiter your responsibilities or duties in those places where you’ve worked. Employer aren’t interested in your responsibilities or duties, they are only interested in your accomplishment in those places. You achievement will draw their attention toward you. Use keywords that are related to that company you’re applying for job when you’re trying to write your accomplishment stated and make sure you quantify them. You teach student, how is there improvement level and by what standard. E.g, When you got to that School the number of students that pass commerce with B’s & A’s increases to 75% when compared with their previous results in that school. 8. Your personal skill look too generic, ability to , ability to, ability to, are generic statement, try and modify them with the company keywords. 9. The whole of your CV need an overhaul, I cannot do more than this for you my dear sister. 10. If your CGPA is above 3.0, don't forget to list it but if it is below don't bother yourself about it. Your qualification matter because companies list it as part of their criteria for employment, although not every company does that but for the one that do it, is just to screen candidates out of the huge number of people that apply for particular position. God will help you and me too, your job is on the way. |
Just preview your attached CV now, I see many things that are wrong in there, if this is the CV you actually submitted to all job opening out there. I have no time now but surely will come back to highlight some of the things you need to improve on. Hopefully before tomorrow morning. |
