Home Page THE BEST OF PUNCH TODAY Punch Search E-Punch (01/07/2008) Post-UME: LASU fixes date for screening, warns candidates against fraud By Our correspondent Published: Tuesday, 1 Jul 2008 The Lagos State University, Ojo, has fixed between July 18 and August 2 for its post-Universities Matriculation Examination screening, with a warning that candidates must desist from fraud and untoward behaviour during the exercise. Also, the university has started new degree programmes in nursing, transport, education technology and business education. The university‘s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Anthonia Oyeniji, told our correspondent on Monday, that the institution had perfected plans to conduct a foolproof screening test for candidates. According to her, any plan by any candidate to embark on action that could bring the exercise to ridicule would be resisted. ”Only those candidates that have chosen LASU as their first choice during the UME conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and scored 200 and above are eligible for the screening. “Those who are not qualified should not bother to come for the test, ineligible candidates who come will have themselves to blame,” she said. She added that direct entry candidates who picked LASU as their first choice were also qualified for the post-UME screening. Oyeniji implored qualified candidates to purchase the LASU post-UME scratch cards at designated banks for N2,000 and should thereafter registered online for the test. According to her, candidates who applied for admission into the institution‘s arts and science faculties would be screened on July 18, while those aspiring to undergo programmes in accounting and marketing would be screened on July 29. Candidates who applied to study programmes in public administration, management technology and business administration will be tested on July 30 while their counterparts in banking/finance, industrial relations, personnel management and insurance will do the post-UME screening on July 31. According to Oyeniji, law, medicine and education candidates and their colleagues in the social sciences will undergo their own post-UME screening test on August 1. She added that the post-UME screening would end with candidates seeking admission to the mass communication programmes of the university facing the screening test. Oyeniji added that the Senate of the university approved the setting up of the School of Transport during its statutory meetings of March 27, April 24 and May 30. The university‘s curriculum committee, she said, had sent the proposal for the creation of the college and the commencement of degree programmes in courses including nursing before this final action. She added that the NUC had given the university the nod to start the programme |

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: “I don‘t believe that God exists.” “Why do you say that?” asked the customer. The barber replied ‘well, you just have to go out in the street to realise that God doesn‘t exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? “If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. ‘I can‘t imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things. “The customer thought for a moment, but didn‘t respond because he didn‘t want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: “You know what? Barbers do not exist.” “How can you say that?” asked the surprised barber. ‘I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!‘ “No!” the customer exclaimed. “Barbers don‘t exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed” beards, like that man outside.” “Ah, but barbers DO exist! That‘s what happens when people do not come to me.” “Exactly!” affirmed the customer. ‘That‘s the point! God, too, DOES exist! That‘s what happens when people do not go to Him and don‘t look to Him for help. That‘s why there‘s so much pain and suffering in the world.” |
