But OP why should you even be thinking of marrying when you haven't secured a job?

You should get your priorities striaght!

He's already married Mr. Oga, you don't have to chastise him all over again. I'm sure he's blaming himself for getting married already.

Op sit your wife down and talk to her, if she refuses, leave the decision to her. A yoruba adage says, 'if your wife leave you, trouble has left you be that'. Marriage is for better for worse, if she can't endure the worst, then she's not fit to be a wife.

If u are 30 plus and single, we shd have our own thread to meet and talk.
Some of us are single, educated and ably employed. We are mature, responsible, gainfully employed, christian and godfearing. Some of us have kids that we are training and bringing up. We are involved in church, in impacting the lives of others, and contribute to the wellbeing of the society, But for one reason or the other, we are still single.
I have a lot of respect for nairaland, and I think its Nigeria's version of facebook, only better.
So if ur 30 and above, let's talk and see if the sparks will fly!
Pls note: no rude comments. Respect attracts respect. Nairalanders are great people. smiley

Quite interesting I must say. The question I get asked everyday is 'when are you going to get married Mr'. To make matters worse, most of my friends are married and I have started asking myself the same question and I go further to ask myself 'don't you think you're too old not to have your family?' On the flip side, I am hopeful, very very hopeful....

Business / CBN Forex Policy May Cause Factory Closure by adexolu: 6:19pm On Jul 13, 2015
The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Sunday said the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to stop foreign exchange sale to importers of 41 items might lead to the closure of many manufacturing companies in the country. According to the chamber, many of the listed items are raw materials, which manufacturing companies usually need for production.

In a communiqué it issued after a public forum with officials of the CBN in Lagos, the chamber said the policy might lead to job losses. The communiqué, signed by the Director-General, LCCI, Mr. Muda Yusuf, and made available on Sunday, noted that the new forex rule could also lead to inflation and significant reduction in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product. It read in part, “Given the dominant role of the CBN in FX supplies in Nigeria and the fact that all three ‘official’ markets are excluded, the policy means manufacturers who require any of the 41 restricted items as input and raw materials for their production may have to simply shut their operations once the existing stock is exhausted.

“The LCCI understands the CBN’s constraints and circumstances as it drew up this policy. It, however, appears as if the formulation of the policy has suffered from the CBN’s limited understanding of the manufacturing process of many of the sectors affected by this policy. Many of the restricted items are irreplaceable raw materials in the manufacturing process of many industries and this policy will cause significant damage to the Nigerian manufacturing sector and economy. We affirm that while there are several items on the list, which any patriotic Nigerian will not object to, there are many others that will harm the manufacturing sector.”

you speak naught. America is a free country n U free to say what u believe. There are outspoken activists fighting against gay rights. This is one's religious belief as supported by the Bible which the entire world knows. What then would stop a Reverend from outrightly taking a stand? Your thought may seem to lack a firm accentuation. Am a strong opposer of homosexuality. I won't tolerate it. I suppose all Christians who are not gay themselves must outrightly condemn it. No fear of the land or ppls opinions.

If 60 years old are incapable of championing a change then Buhari is the wrong candidate.

Both young and old can work together to bring change as long as they are effective.

Corruption within civil servant is not problem and the solution is not sacking people who have worked for 30 years.

Don't get this wrong, the caption of the thread is exaggerated, they are not being SACKED, it's going to be what you call a retrenchment and compulsory retirement and they are going to get their full benefits.

Also do you know those who are over 30yrs in the ministry cuts across all the levels? And i am sure that majority will be in lower and middle levels like cleaners, clerks and the likes.

Well try going to our ministries and see for yourself the decay and decadence there and you will have a better understanding. I have worked in the ministry and I am talking from experience. It's not because of their age, but their orientation generally. Also retirement is not the final solution but the starting point.

Our leader should not be 72yrs old, but when he was the only credible candidate/opposition our political parties recommended, we had no choice but to vote for him. Whereas, in terms of the civil service, options abound.

You can't be sure of that, a family friend who works at ministry of education started using computer in 1997, she was aged 43-45 at that time, not all old guy/woman are struggling with technology.

If Buhari wants to overhaul the system then those above the age of 65 should be made redundant and not those who have worked for 30yrs but within the working age.

I understand you quite well, but there would always be collateral damage. We need a relatively young and dynamic labour force in the government ministries. It's easier for a 45 to 50 year Old person to champion change than a 60 year old. Take a look at this scenario compare GTBank to a Union Bank or First Bank. The former is young and dynamic and championing change in the Banking Sector in Nigeria and Africa while the later is just living on old glory and growing at a slow rate.

There would always be collateral damage in any decision the government takes, but let's try to look at the long term benefits which would be - more young folks in government in future. It's because the youths and middle age folks are not given opportunities and our society has entrenched so much value to old age that we even have a 72yr old President. So let the change begin

You can't improve efficiency by getting rid of experienced workers, you do that by training workers, motivate them and get rid of red tapes in the system.

For the fact that somebody has worked for 30yrs does not mean that the individual has reached the age of retirement.

It is even more ridiculous to think that the person suggesting this is above 70years of age and have ruled the country before.

Double standard?

From the headline if it is true, it's only those that are 30 yrs and above that are going to be affected, not those who have spent less. So are you saying those that have worked for 10, 15, 20 and 25 years are not competent enough to man the affairs of the ministry? Certainly some good hands would be affected, but truth is most of these old guys are not inclined to new technology, they keep claiming things should be done the way things have always been done. We need change. Civil servants can't be compared with political officers.

The government does not need to review any act before it decides to retire anyone as long as due notice is served and full compensation is paid as and when due.

I am smelling fowl play here, This is another means to deprive this workers of their retirement benefits... Its a no no for me...

You should understand that the caption of the news is misleading. If the presidency is going to authorize this, they are not going to be sacked, they are going to be retired/ retrenched and they will also get their full entitlements.

Guys don't ask for dates because most nigerian girls have no decency. She wants to go out on a date with you every time you ask but she's not interested in dating you. From experience, an 'oyinbo gel' will not even accept to go on a date with you if she has the slightest inclination the relationship will not work out and if she accepts, she's going dutch.... so my advice to you naija ladies, as long as you are not willing to pay, get used to 'come to my ous.......'
