Jcolston89: I was told that surnames aren't accurate because they were often given the first name of a male relative as a last name and you're right. Abia State. it still boils down to providing a family name in details ...ie nwofor and nwafor are literally desame thing but have huge impacts in e identification of a person |

asuustrike2009: Your assertion is wrong. Speaking in tongues is something natural not psychology. When you speak in tongues you communicate with Yahweh as there are some things that can't be said via English or local language but in heavily language. Secondly you must be baptised by the Holy Spirit himself to differentiate you from demons because they speak in tongues too. Thirdly speaking in tongues goes beyond shakabaaaaa kokokokomatata. You can speak in strange language unknown to you such that someone else might understand it if his dialect is being spoken. Yes I agree that there are fake tongues too but it takes an anoited or zpirit filled person to decode your stupidity is very clean and clear for all.to seeth |
Politics › Re: Ibadan Land Of Brown Roofs; Glory Of The Grey Haired by Afobear: 4:54pm On May 05, 2017 |
HardMirror: It is pitiable that many busy themselves here on nairaland on tribalistic battles. Afonjas vs Ipodyoots and the that sort of gibby-gabber.
Well when next you see pictures of ibadan and the obvious predominance of brown roofs remember this.
the brown roof is actually a dipiction of wealth. yes! Those brown roofs you see actually shows wealth. The wealth of the cocoa farmers and merchants. They were wealthy enough to build storey buildings and put zinc roofing sheet on it. There was no aluminium sheeet in those days.
other states envied Ibadan at that time. They were simply too under developed to compete with ibadan in terms of classic and exotic buildings. Many were still using mud while ibadan was building with blocks and those zinc roofs that are now brown.
nothing lasts forever. Aluminium roofing could become obsolate in some years to come
yoruba's respect for elders. Many want to demolish those old buildings, but the old people still occupying them won't allow it. They keep telling tales of how "baba baba re" built the house igbos on the other hand don't have this problem they can demolish and sell their properties without thinking of history all they measure if the money to be made.
So my fellow afonjas don't be perturbed by the brown roof. It reminds us of the greates city in west africa for decades while other states were still forests your papa must be a stupid man |

anothergirl: Glad you found the thread! I do want more detailed info on who these "leaders" were. They had to have had details, letters something on who exactly they were trading with. Have you heard of the story of Mansa Musa (or something similar) a Mali king who supposedly sent ships over to the Americas? I haven't verified any of it but maybe some africans can confirm or dispell it as myth. Where are you from? most of the history i as a person know today is from tales from my grandpa ,my day and a stockpile of african history books owned by my grandpa but unfortunately that was many years ago and i cant find the books |

musicwriter: Don't mind anybody trying to shout you down. What you said is correct.
"Ututu oma" is just a literal interpretation of Good Morning which doesn't reflect a meaning coming off the mind of a true Igbo man born in the "obi". This all goes to show the level of control English language have over our minds. However, as @bigfrancis21 have said, it may be considered as evolution of our language. But, then, I'll argue if we continue that way it would amount to making slaves of ourselves using English as our frame of reference for Igbo linguistics. That would mean English would automatically become our reference language for knowledge creation, instead of our natural Igbo. It's a pity Africans don't realize the enormity of the mess we are in putting English above our native languages in school. look here young man the debate is dependant on the dialect and area of the people ....different igbo groups have different ways of saying good morning apart from iboola chi and ututu oma |
