Akbar Salubiro, 25, went missing on Sunday night after setting off to harvest palm oil in a remote village on the island of west Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Concerned friends and relatives found a giant python sprawled out in Akbar’s own back garden the next evening – and feared he had been suffocated and swallowed.

Akbar’s lifeless body was found inside the serpent after horrified locals sliced open its belly using a 18-inch long hunting knife.

Village secretary Salubiro Junaidi said: ‘People had heard cries from the palm grove the night before Akbar was found in the snake’s stomach.

‘When the snake was captured, the boots Akbar was wearing were clearly visible in the stomach of the snake.

Reticulated pythons are boa constrictors that suffocate their victims before swallowing them whole.

A South African pastor Alfred Ndlovu, who embarked on a 40 days and 40 nights fasting to beat Jesus' fasting record in the wilderness, has lost his life due to malnutrition.

The pastor Alfred who is 44 sadly learnt the sad way that he cannot beat God. In a determined bid to break the record, the cleric left home on June 17 for a nearby bush to spend his days in prayer, much like the Messiah did.

His isolation to the bush was reportedly an attempt to focus his attention on God and to distance himself from material things.

After a month of abstinence,the pastor’s unresponsive body was later discovered in the wilderness by a hunter, who then alerted the local police.

Ndlovu’s death, meanwhile, puzzled many church members as he was known by his family and community as a very spiritual person whose faith could “move mountains.”

“He was a very spiritual man. It’s unfortunate he had to die this way,” one of his close relatives said in the report. “After a month we got the sad news of his death.”

Before retiring to the mountain, the pastor boasted to his members that he would break Jesus’ record, the report said.

Many of his regular churchgoers believed that he could achieve the feat as he always displayed youthful exuberance beyond his age.

“Pastor was a healthy and religious old man who did not even look his age,” his close relative recalled.

Prior to his untimely passing, Ndlovu had no history of medical illness.

The Federal High Court, Lagos Division, yesterday, has nullified the increment in tariff announced last December 21, by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Justice Mohammed Idris ordered NERC to revert to the former tariff and restrained it from further increasing tariff “unless it complies strictly with the relevant provisions of the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) 2005.”

The judge delivered the judgment in a suit filed by human rights lawyer, Mr. Toluwani Yemi Adebiyi, who challenged the increment.

Justice Idris described NERC’s action as “procedurally ultra vires, irrational, irregular and illegal,” and awarded N50,000 in the plaintiff’s favour.

In deciding the substantive suit, the court relied on sections 31, 32 and 76 of the EPSRA, and held that NERC “acted outside the powers conferred on it by the Act and failed to follow the prescribed procedure.”


The court added that NERC failed to show that it acted in due obedience to the prescribed procedures and that “there is no evidence that NERC complied with Section 76 (6)(7)and (9) of the EPSRA Act.”

“Of all the legal requirements, it appeared that the only one complied with by NERC was that it announced the new tariff in the newspapers,” Justice Idris said

He added: “It is clear from the affidavit evidence that the increase in tariff was done by NERC in defiance of the order of this court made on May 28, 2015, which directed parties in the case to maintain the status quo.”

The court made the following orders: “The increment in electricity tariff which took effect after the institution of this action and while a restraining order is subsisting is hereby declared illegal and same is hereby set aside.

“NERC is hereby directed to reverse to the status quo and the commission is hereby restrained from further increasing electricity tariff except it complies strictly with the relevant provisions of the EPSRA.”

The sum of N50,000 was also awarded in favour of the plaintiff.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday hailed the judgment.

In a statement in Abuja, President of the Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba said: “We at the Nigeria Labour Congress wish to state that this is a courageous and judicial judgement deserving of commendation. We also consider it victory for the ordinary Nigerian who has been crushed by exploitative bills.

“Similarly, we urge NERC and DISCOs to obey the judgment and revert to the old rates without further delay. We demand that the NERC and DISCOs observe all the conditions precedent as contained in the sales agreement before any increase be made.”

At the inauguration ceremony yesterday, President Muahmmadu Buhari reinforced on his administrations penchant for a corrupt free country. He said that the era of free and easy money in the country had gone for good.

This he declared as he inaugurated road and drainage projects in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara.

He inaugurated the 20km township road and 40km drainages in Tsafe Local Government amounting to N2.1 billion.

The president also inaugurated the 75-kilometre Wanke- Danjigba-Kucheri-Kigama-Bilbis Road with seven bridges valued eight billion nairaNara.

He vowed that his administration would enthrone good governance through vigorous prosecution of the ongoing war against corruption in the country.

Buhari pledged to continue the ongoing war against corruption, noting that corruption had retarded the growth of the country.

According to him, the ongoing crusade against corruption is not aimed at humiliating anyone but rather meant to recover all looted fund to be put to public use.

He, therefore, called on the people of the state and Nigerians in general to join his administration’s efforts in ensuring that the change desired was well delivered.

“As the people of the state are aware the change agenda was central issue of our 2015 electioneering campaign.

“Since this administration’s assumption of office in May 2015, the journey to fix the country and restore the hope of the common man in the Nigerian project has begun in earnest.

“You have all agreed to join me and work as agents of change, the challenge before all of us therefore is translating the change into reality.

“I,therefore, wish to call on every one to think closely about the Nigerian situation.

“There is no easy money to throw around, we must go back to farming, livestock rearing so that we could develop the industries.

“We must put our hands on deck to ensure success of our mission in engineering Nigeria.

“If efforts were made in the past to diversify the economy from our absolute reliance on a single commodity, we would not have found ourselves in our current situation.

“I assure all Nigerians that the grim economic situations are passing phase which all societies go through,’’ he added.

The president also noted with delight that the security situation in the country was improving, not only in the North-East, but all over the country.

He also expressed the hope that the macro-economic policies as well as the monetary policies being implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would lead to steady growth in significant sectors of the economy.

On security, Buhari noted that the commitment of his administration to secure the country had already started yielding fruitful results.

He said that for the first time in the history of Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East, seven years ago, the people of Borno celebrated this year’s the Eid-el-Fitri with ease, devoid of any security barricades.

He reiterated the government’s determination to deal decisively with any threat to security of the nation from any quarters.

“Part of the reasons that I’m personally here is to flag off the military operations aimed at routing out the menace of cattle rustling and armed bandits, not only in the state, but in the entire axis of North-West.

“I also wish to reiterate to the people of Zamfara and to Nigerians in general, the commitment of this administration to restoring sanity in governance.

“We shall continue to prosecute the war against corruption. We do not wish or desire to humiliate or disgrace anybody, but we must recover stolen fund and put them to collective public use,’’ he said.

Buhari said he had listened to the litany of requests put forward by the state governor and gave an assurance that he would carefully study them and respond appropriately.
