What types of diseases are caused by Staph? Skin infections (see above) are the most common type of disease produced by Staphylococcus. Staph infections of the skin can progress to impetigo (a crusting of the skin) or cellulitis (inflammation of the deeper layers of skin and connective tissue under the skin, leading to swelling and redness of the area). In rare situations, a serious complication known as scalded skin syndrome (see below) can develop. In breastfeeding women, Staph can result in mastitis (inflammation of the breast) or in abscess of the breast. Staphylococcal breast abscesses can release bacteria into the mother's milk. When the bacteria enter the bloodstream and spread to other organs, a number of serious infections can occur. Spread of the organisms to the bloodstream is known as bacteremia or sepsis. Staphylococcal pneumonia predominantly affects people with underlying lung disease and can lead to abscess formation within the lungs. Infection of the heart valves (endocarditis) can lead to heart failure. Spread of Staphylococci to the bones can result in severe inflammation of the bones known as osteomyelitis. When Staph bacteria are present in the blood, a condition known as staphylococcal sepsis (widespread infection of the bloodstream) or staphylococcal bacteremia exists. Staphylococcal sepsis is a leading cause of shock and circulatory collapse, leading to death, in people with severe burns over large areas of the body. When untreated, Staph aureus sepsis carries a mortality (death) rate of over 80%. Although not common, Staph aureus has been reported as a cause of chorioamnionitis and neonatal sepsis in pregnancy, but group B streptococci are the most common bacterial cause of this life-threatening condition for the fetus. Staphylococcal infections are contagious and can be transmitted from person to person. Since pus from infected wounds may contain the bacteria, proper hygiene and hand washing is required when caring for Staph-infected wounds. Staphylococcal food poisoning is an illness of the bowels that causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. It is caused by eating foods contaminated with toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus rather than a true infection with the bacteria. Symptoms usually develop within one to six hours after eating contaminated food. The illness usually lasts for one to three days and resolves on its own. Patients with this illness are not contagious since toxins are not transmitted from one person to another. Toxic shock syndrome is an illness caused by toxins secreted by Staph aureus bacteria growing under conditions in which there is little or no oxygen. Toxic shock syndrome is characterized by the sudden onset of high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle aches, followed by low blood pressure (hypotension), which can lead to shock and death. There may be a rash resembling sunburn, with peeling of skin. Toxic shock syndrome was originally described and still occurs especially in menstruating women using tampons. |
Anyone can develop a Staph infection, although certain groups of people are at greater risk, including newborn infants, breastfeeding women, and people with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cancer, vascular disease, and lung disease. Injecting drug users, those with skin injuries or disorders, intravenous catheters, surgical incisions, and those with a weakened immune system due either to disease or a result of immune suppressing medications all have an increased risk of developing Staph infections. Staph infections are contagious until the infection has resolved. Direct contact with an infected sore or wound, or with personal-care items such as razors, bandages, etc., are common routes of transmission. Casual contact such as kissing or hugging does not pose a great risk for transmission if there is no direct contact with the infected area. |

This happened just this afternoon. (don't ask me how I got the photos...hehe). So D'banj's younger brother Kayswitch's baby mama, Meena Subramani, stormed his home in Lekki Phase1 this afternoon demanding to see him, but for some reason, the security guards wouldn't open the gates. Meena, who got there by taxi and was carrying their 7 months old baby, started banging on the gate, shouting at security men and screaming that KaySwitch should come out and face her. She made a lot of allegations as she was screaming but I will leave that out for now. The house belongs to D'banj but he's currently not in Nigeria. Nobody came out of the house for the hour or so Meena was outside creating a scene. She has since left. http://www.tundeola.com/2014/10/photos-k-switchs-baby-mama-storms-his.html

SHE only learnt to walk five months ago, but miniature beauty queen Bobbi Boyden is already strutting her stuff at pageants. Dubbed 'Baby Beyonce', the toddler shakes her hips, flutters her eyelashes and blows air kisses at shows in the UK. Her mother Stephanie Boyden, 32, has spent up to 5000 pounds ($9100) on dresses and entry fees for her "diva" daughter. "She loves the attention of being up on stage and she screams to get up there. I have to hold her back," Ms Boyden, from Essex, told The Mirror. "In total I've spent about 5000 pounds in three months on my three girls. One dress cost me 200 pounds and she only wore it twice before she grew out if it - but I don't intend to lower my spending. You can't put a price on the look on her face when she's on stage in her costumes." Bobbi began performing about three months ago after watching her older sisters compete. However her recent 'Single Ladies' routine has sparked an outcry, with parents saying it's inappropriate the tiny girl is performing in pageants. "I know some people think it's inappropriate but all of the judges are checked out and given police checks and I wouldn't put her in any danger," Ms Boyden said. "The crowd are parents and family members - you can't just wander in off the street. There are people who say that pageants sexualise children but I couldn't disagree more. It's exactly the same as a dance competition except the kids win crowns instead of medals at the end. I would never put any of my children in danger." sourcehttp://www.olokunbolablessing.com/2014/10/baby-beyonce-bobbi-boyden-performs-at.html

The Federal Government is reportedly making plans to ban the use of motorcycles, aka “Okada”, nationwide. It is more bad news for commercial motorcyclists in Nigeria as the Federal Government is reportedly making plans to ban the use of motorcycles, aka “Okada”, nationwide. Motorcycles, which are a common means of transportation in the country, have already been outlawed in some states like Lagos and also in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The call for the nationwide ban was made by the National Council on Transport and supported by the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, Punch reports. The Federal Ministry of Transport released a statement in that regard on Saturday, October 25. It reads: “All states and the Federal Capital Territory have therefore been advised to establish a public transport system that ensure strict regulation of the operation of public passenger transportation system through a well-articulated management system for enhanced safety, security, effective and efficient service delivery,” the statement said. It added, “The states are to also develop master plans for the development of intelligent transport system to facilitate the development and management of their transport operations in line with emerging trends and global best practices.” The ministry explained that the ban was one of the measures to be taken to ensure the provision of safe and secure transportation in Nigeria. sourcehttp://www.olokunbolablessing.com/2014/10/no-more-okadafg-to-ban-commercial.html
