A couple in Asaba, Delta State, Benson Ogwu and his wife, who have been married for 16 years without a child, yesterday set ablaze their Holy Bible around Bonssac quarters.

While their action attracted hundreds of passersby, it was reliably gathered that the couple, members of a popular Pentecostal church in the area, were angry when their high expectations of making babies were shattered by a prophet who told them they had a delay in having children because they were far from God.
Consequently, they claimed that God has abandoned them, but an insider said that they were disillusioned after several prophets told them that the Lord was totally fed up of their Christian practice.


They were said to have sought the assistance of some native doctors, who allegedly lured them into serving his idol popularly known as “Onishe” where they were assured they would have children within three years.

Family sources said that the couple was married in the Catholic Church, which they dumped afterwards for the popular Pentecostal church where accusing fingers have been pointed to the pastor for raising false prophesies.

The Liberian Ministry of Health on Tuesday said that three health care workers who were given the experimental Ebola drug ZMapp in Liberia have shown “very positive signs of recovery”.

“At present, the city’s 12 confirmed cases are all part of a single chain of transmission. Those infected by the initial case include medical staff involved in his treatment, a patient in the same hospital, and a protocol officer in very close contact with the patient.”, WHO said.

Prosecutor Prosper Chipangura told the court that Mabinile went to his in-laws in Zaka, to retrieve his daughter after the death of his wife.

Chipangura said that some time after the daughter returned home, Mabinile proposed love to her and both agreed to have sex until the daughter got pregnant.

The matter came to light after the couple's neighbors informed the police about the incestuous relationship, leading to their arrest.

The daughter was examined at a local hospital where she was found to be four months pregnant. A medical report was also produced in court as evidence.

The father admitted to having an incestuous relationship with his daughter, and told the court that he now regrets his actions.

I never knew what he meant until I was diagnosed HIV positive. He also infected other ladies in the church before he died.”

On her marriage,she added that: “Before we got married, my husband was educated about the deadly disease. But he is also a carrier of the disease. At the moment, medically both of us are negative to HIV virus. This is because we have been put on medication for long. But that does not mean, we should stop taking our medication. Even though we test negative now, we keep taking our medication. We had one child together who did not test positive to HIV because of the medication.

“Marriage for me was normal but they say, in every marriage there are challenges. Things have happened in the past which I wouldn't want to talk about here. Talking about the stigma, there was one day, my seven-year old son came from school and told me to stop that HIV thing that I am doing. According to him, his friends said, they wouldn't play with him because his mum is HIV positive. There are challenges but life must go on.”

Charging our devices as we sleep feels like a harmless routine. For one young Samsung smartphone owner, however, that habit almost turned heated.

Last week, a 13-year-old North Texas girl plugged her Samsung Galaxy S4 in for its nightly juice-up before hitting the sack, only to be awoken by the smell of something burning hours later. When she got up and searched around for the source of the stench, she realized that she had wedged her charging phone under her pillow. And not only was the backside of the pillow scorched, but the phone was fried into an unrecognizable slab of plastic and melted components.

The event, according to FOX 4, left the family a bit surprised.
“We have a reasonable expectation that the products we buy are going to be safe,” the girl’s father said. He told FOX that he suspects that the phone overheated, causing the battery to swell and start a fire.


The battery in the Galaxy phone was an aftermarket replacement, something a Samsung representative told FOX could have been part of the problem. The other issue, according to Samsung, was that the phone was being smothered by a pillow, restricting airflow while charging. This is something the manufacturer warns against in the device’s instruction materials.

Despite these miscues by the young Galaxy owner, Samsung told FOX and Yahoo Tech that the company will replace the phone, the pillow, and the mattress involved in the accident.

“Samsung takes product quality and customer safety very seriously,” a representative said.

“We have offered the customer a new device, and we are working to retrieve the product so that we can investigate what happened. We strongly advise all customers follow the guidelines of CTIA for care and handling wireless batteries. Additionally, our user manuals warn customers that phones must have adequate ventilation and airflow and should not be covered with material such as bedding.”

The General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, has warned members of the church against celebrating Christmas, saying the celebration of Christmas is idolatrous and unscriptural.

Kumuyi warned that doing so is making Christians to go back from the commandment of Jesus Christ.

"We don’t celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don’t hear us sing what they call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the lord more, and rededicate ourselves more."

The cleric said this on Saturday at the annual national December convention of the church, which held at the church’s camp ground in Ogun State.

He said, “When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don’t find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don’t find that in the church either. If you don’t know that before, now you know.”

He warned that any of the church’s leaders that tried to introduce the “idolatry of Christmas” into any section of the church would be sanctioned, while also encouraging other believers in Christ to jettison the celebration as part of their sacrifice to perfection.

Kumuyi said the duty of the church is to make people more like Jesus Christ, not join in worldly celebrations.

“We are not trying to make the church turn like the world. We want it to be like Jesus Christ, and more like the Apostles. If you don’t have that mind with us, then you have permission to go to other places,” he added.

ABEOKUTA – Men of Ogun State Police command have arrested a-45-year-old man, pastor Daniel Samuel for stabbing his wife over the later refusal to attend church activities.

Daniel , an Apostolic Church pastor was reported to have used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his wife, Patient Samuel in her neck in Owode-Egba in Ibafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State.

Vanguard gathered that, the offence of the 42 -year -old wife of the Pastor was because she gave preference to her work over the church programmes.

It was further gathered that, shortly after the man attacked his wife with cutlass, he alerted the neighbours that his wife has been matcheted by some unknown men , urging the people to help him take his wife to hospital.

How would you describe the long years of being married to each other: Kenny: It has been wonderful and we give God the glory. As a man in showbiz, it is not easy. When it was time for us to come together, that was when he would tell me he had to travel; then trouble would start. Today, I give God all the glory. When the baby came, he was more excited than I was and till date, he has not come out of the euphoria. He is so protective of her and fusses over her endlessly. Who apologizes first when you disagree: Kenny: She does not know how to say ‘I am sorry.’ At the beginning, I used to be very upset but later, I was advised to help her. As a typical Yoruba and Ijebu man, the wife is always wrong, even if it is the man that erred and she is expected to apologise. That is why it is good to marry an African woman because an American woman would ask to check if you are insane.

Bola: My mother-in-law would tell me that it is not because my husband is her son that she has asked me to go on my knees and beg him but because she wants me to stay in my husband’s house and that is why I am still here today.

Night travel may be fraught with a lot of dangers in Nigeria as highways are not in good condition and robbers use the bad state of the roads as an opportunity to ambush inter-state commercial vehicles.

But in spite of these inherent dangers, there seems to be no reduction in the number of people who choose to go on night journeys. What is the motive of some who travel at night in luxurious buses? Find out below...

Investigation by Punch's Ademola Olonilua showed that attraction of some of the passengers to the night travel was more bizarre as much as it was almost unbelievable. When Punch visited some parks to investigate, it found out passengers preferred night travels for different reasons.

At Jibowu, an area of Lagos where luxury buses load passengers to the Eastern part of the country, Chidioke Ekezie, a motorboy attached to a bus of one of the popular transport operators in Lagos, gave an insight into life on night buses, which he explained could be very vibrant and “interesting” as a result of the duration of the journeys.

“There has never been a time that those taking night journey reduced. The thing is that a lot of people just like travelling at that time simply because it is traffic-free,” Ekezie said.

Asked to elaborate on the “interesting” part of the journey, which he had earlier mentioned, the motorboy said, “A lot of people make new friends and many young people who board the buses as strangers become couples during the journey.”

When asked whether there is any sexual activity during these journeys, Ekezie smiled mischievously and said:

“It is a known fact that it happens. Some people are just quite stupid. Most couples wait till we get to our designated bus stops to made love.

“For instance, on a journey from Onitsha to Lagos, the bus sometimes leaves at about 10pm and later stops at Benin so that the passengers can stretch their legs, buy refreshments and ease themselves. This takes a long time.

“I have seen a lot of passengers get down and go around a corner to made love. It happens. I have also seen some passengers made love in the bus while others are off the bus. When this happens, it is a problem for the man and woman involved. We don’t condone such acts in the bus.

“We could decide to drop the involved passengers there and leave because it is very silly for people to made love in the bus.”

A 23yrs old student, who preferred to give just his first name, Chukwueloka, was booked on one of the luxury buses to his home state of Imo, when our correspondent visited the park. He said he always took night buses anytime he went home.

“Night buses are interesting. A lot of things happen there,” he declared, when our correspondent had a chat with him on why he favoured night travel that much. A lot of things like what?

He went into a narration. “There was a time I went to Yenagoa (Bayelsa State capital) in 2005. I boarded the bus at Mazamaza and got a seat beside a fair lady who was also going to Bayelsa. The journey was at least seven hours and we took off around 6pm.

“I had been chatting with the lady since we left Lagos. About four hours into the journey, she yawned and said she was sleepy. She rested her head on my shoulder and there was no way she could be comfortable if my arm did not go around her shoulders.

“My arm brushed her breast mistakenly and she did nothing. It turned out that by her body language as the journey went on, she wanted something. I had heard about such things happening on buses but I did not immediately understand her intention.

“She later made it clear when her hand went to my zippers.”

Chukwueloka laughed as he narrated this unusual escapade. He said he would never forget it for the rest of his life. “I just wanted to experience it. She sat on my lap and other passengers were asleep in the bus. It was also dark,” he said.

Having a sexual encounter with a complete stranger may be a no-no for many people but Chukwueloka told Punch that he used protection. (How true? was he going on a journey with a condom?)

At Oshodi, another lady narrated a funny story that her aunty told her. She said, “My aunty boarded a luxury bus from Jibowu. The last bus stop was at Aba and a man came out of the bus complaining that his wallet, his wrist watch and the handbag containing his laptop had been stolen. My aunty said when the young man explained what happened, every other passenger of the bus made jest of him.

"What happened was that when all other passengers in the bus were asleep, he made sexual advances at the lady he sat with. They started handling each other even though they were strangers when they boarded the bus. The lady later offered that the man should suck her breast. The lady must have rubbed a sleeping portion on her breast because the man slept off afterwards.

“The lady stole all his belongings and disembarked from the bus before it got to the last bus stop.”
