PoliticsRe: Exclusive: Why South East Govs, Leaders Moved Against Obi As Atikus Running Mate by afroniger: 4:10am On Oct 14, 2018
If this is true then it means these guys will ensure that Atiku will not have an impressive outing in the SouthEast. Atiku better take this impasse very serious and give it the urgent attention it deserves before it fatally damages his chances. If he loses their support and consequently fails to do well in the SE then he should consider his ambition dead-on-arrival.

kahal29:
When Wike was shouting that they preach restructuring without practising it we thought he was joking now we see the result.

A presidential candidate of a party taking a decision about his running mate without the input of his party members especially leaders from the said VP zone. They now hear of it on the social media. This is a sign of things to come...

Instead of Atiku rushing down to pacify them he sends them a message that he is traveling out of the country and that they should wait till he comes back then he will find time to meet with them .

This is just the beginning.... But this man had time to see Oyibo bishop today.
In a nutshell, it means that the likes of Wike and other erstwhile leaders who jointly made party decisions have been displaced by the Atiku machinery since his emergence as flagbearer. Perhaps the SE wing of the party is merely trying to reassert itself before they get sidelined into the background of the decision-making in the party.
PoliticsRe: As An APGA Chieftain, I Won't Go To Katsina - Peter Obi by afroniger: 8:50pm On Oct 13, 2018
These sort of careless statements expose Peter Obi as a leader lacking in statesmanship. Political leaders of his calibre in a multiethnic society like ours are expected to be more guarded in their utterances in case of situations like this.

So the stories making the rounds about the issue are true after all, in spite of the purported denial by PDP. These people had better put their house in order else they will lose the small momentum that the announcement has generated for Atiku.

Agbakoba should create his own formidable political structure to displace Tinubu's if he knows he has what it takes (that's the political way to achieve what he is asking), else he should keep quiet and stop making stuupid noise. Nobody will give you power on a silver platter.

PoliticsSouth East Leaders Neglected, As Atiku Picks Obi As Running Mate ― Umahi by afroniger(op): 2:26pm On Oct 13, 2018
https://www.tribuneonlineng.com/168696/

October 13, 2018 Egbo Udodinma - Abakaliki

EBONYI state governor and chairman South East Governors forum, Chief David Umahi has described the choice of Dr Peter Obi, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate running mate as a total humiliation to Ndi Igbo.

According to the governor, leaders of the South East and Igbo Leaders were never consulted to deliberate and nominate the candidate of their choice.

The governor apologised to Nigerians and Ndigbo for the statement for earlier congratulating the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.

He added that his Chief Press Secretary acted without his knowledge and wish to state categorically that he has nothing personally against Peter Obi or any other person emerging as the running mate to the presidential candidate of PDP.

He then described the development as a great departure from the early agreement and said that any position zoned to Ndigbo must be discussed and agreement must be reached so that the right thing will be done in line with the peculiar nature of Igbo politics and their quest for politics of inclusiveness.

“I am shocked over the choice of the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi as the running mate to the presidential candidate of PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar without consulting with the leaders of the zone.

” The earlier statement quoting me as congratulating Peter Obi was never to my knowledge and I, dissociated myself from the statement because the position of the entire South East zone has always been that any position zoned to the South East must be deliberated upon by the leaders of the zone.

” The appointment of Mr Obi as Atiku’s running mate, neither the governors, nor Igbo leaders were consulted, so this situation, I will describe it as a great departure from the early agreement.” ends

But he didn't make any statement. Is just an assumption by ngige due to emotional and psychological insecurity.
Are you saying Ngige was lying? The fact remains that when you compare Osinbajo and Obi, Osinbajo has demonstrated that he isn't a tribalist. E.g, Okechukwu Enelamah the Minister of industry, Trade and investment is his close associate and friend of many many years. Former Commissioner for Budget and Economic planning in Lagos, Ben Akabueze is also his very close friend. Both Igbo men are pastors along with Osinbajo at Redeemed (RCCG) and he most likely influenced their positions in government. Peter Obi on the other hand comes across as an ethnocentric fellow.
PoliticsRe: The All Progressives Congress Is A Yoruba Party - Peter Obi. by afroniger:
I am sure he will be regretting that statement today. Truth be told, Osinbajo is far more detribalized than Peter Obi.

Odumakin is a liar. Perhaps he was expecting Tinubu to take a militant approach that would include attacking Fulanis and Buhari. Tinubu did express his position on the crisis. I don't understand why these Afenifere leaders think they have to bring Tinubu down to gain the relevance that had eluded them on the SW political scene.

Tinubu on herdsmen, farmers crisis: enough

Joseph Jibueze and Tony Akowe, Abuja On: January 19, 2018

All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday said herdsmen attacks on farmers festered because past administrations did not deal decisively with the problem.

He said the crisis had assumed dimensions that troubled the body politic because it had not been addressed.

“Now, the current administration is moving to arrest the lethal situation,” Tinubu said.

The former Lagos State governor, who spoke at the 15th Annual Daily Trust dialogue, believes that the nomadic way of life is fast becoming obsolete.

According to him, large scale nomadic practice does not belong in this day and age.

“Thus, herders have no right to cling to this way of life by killing others. Government must stop their violence but also offer them a viable new way of life by moving them toward more modern, non-nomadic cattle rearing,” he said.

Tinubu, who spoke on the theme: Nigeria and the Challenges of 2019: This is not a game, was represented by one-time Lagos State Commissioner for Finance Mr Wale Edun.

President Muhammadu Buhari was represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha. There were key speakers, such as former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and the representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prince Soyebi, among other eminent Nigerians.

The APC chieftain described the crisis as “evil”, which did not suddenly appear as Nigerians have been “living and dying with this lethal situation for many years”.

“We should have been agitating in this manner five, 10, 15 years ago. Lives would have been saved. For reasons I cannot completely fathom, we have come late to the point of strong, collective outrage at this bloodletting.

“Yet, all in all, late is better than never in this regard. This spirit of compassion and care must be enshrined in our political culture because it is integral to national greatness and democratic progress.

“True patriotism requires that you love more than the concept of Nigeria. You must love the people who comprise this nation, whether they worship in a church, mosque, and shrine or not at all.”

Tinubu believes too much political and economic power resides in the hands of too few, resulting in unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, too little food and too much poverty.

“For the debate needed on how best to tackle these structural problems, 2019 must not be a game between players similar in every way save the political party costume they wear.

“The election to come must be a contest of different visions for the nation’s present and future.

“As a progressive, I believe we must transform the nation by embarking on deep and impactful reforms, by creating more jobs, providing social policy initiatives and building an infrastructure befitting a leading nation.

“Social services must become a reality close at hand and not a vague dream lying in the distance,” he said.

Tinubu called for a reform of the fuel subsidy regime, saying it causes more problems than it cures.

“It sweetly profits the elite who manipulate the programme to their own advantage. We need to allow market forces to more directly determine price.

“We need to open the now closed market to more suppliers. In this way, we may better harmonise supply and demand, where they do the most sustainable economic good,” he said.

Tinubu advocated a repair of the social safety net in the interest of old people, whom he believes are shortchanged and forced to live in penury despite their past labours.

He noted that longstanding arrears of pension payments and retirement benefits to public sector workers remain outstanding.

“I maintain the unshakeable belief that smart, progressive governance can bring prosperity, tranquility and justice,” he said.

The frontline politician and strategist praised the Federal Government for successfully beating Boko Haram into a retreat, and for progress made in the fight against corruption.

“As progress is being made on these fronts, Nigeria also must face its biggest structural problem: our imbalanced economy and the poverty and misery it has caused,” Tinubu said.

Ahead of next year’s election, Tinubu said the battle waged during one election cycle was not enough.

“Curing the ills that plague our house will require many years of outstanding governance,” he said.

According to him, it is imperative for Nigerians not to allow “politics as usual” to claim the 2019 election season.

“We must insist on the principle that elections do not return to being games played by well-heeled elite while the rest of the nation is left to struggle and starve.

“The people must resist all appeals to unthinking passions and old prejudices. We must adhere to what our conscience reveals as the best path to good governance for all.

“For me, that path has always been a progressive one that harks to the need to materially transform the power relationships upon which this political economy is based,” he said.

Tinubu would like to see a national industrial policy that will create jobs, a national infrastructure plan, economic stimulants, accessibility of credit, government-backed home mortgage system, and a return to commodity exchange boards so farmers can secure good prices and hedge against loss.

“To achieve better levels of overall governance, we need to re-balance the duties between federal and state governments by giving states more power, authority and resources.

“The challenge we face leading into 2019 is not to fall backward in governance and development as we move forward in time. Reform and change are difficult because they are always and everywhere resisted by those who benefit from the old order.

“But we must insist on a better life for our people. As such, the electoral politics of 2019 cannot be played as if a game that has no end other than itself.

“Here again, we must insist on politics having a nobler and larger goal than just registering certain people into the fraternity of officeholders. People must not only aspire and hold office; they must seek to govern prudently from that office,” Tinubu said.

Atiku must have some solid defense against these allegations before campaign begins else the incumbent may mess him up with the corruption/wanted criminal tag. The campaign will be brutal.

Politics2019: Akinlade’ll Be Next Ogun Governor, Amosun Boasts by afroniger(op): 1:43pm On Oct 08, 2018
http://sunnewsonline.com/2019-akinladell-be-next-ogun-governor-amosun-boasts/

Laide Raheem, Abeokuta

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, on Sunday, declared that despite the clearance given by the National Working Committee (NWC) to Dapo Abiodun as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, his anointed candidate, Hon. Abdul-Kabir Adekunle Akinlade, will succeed him in 2019.

Governor Amosun gave this declaration on a live programme on Channels Television, monitored by our correspondent during the conduct of the Senatorial, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

He governor insisted that as far as he and other party members in the state were concerned, Akinlade would emerge as the next governor of the state.

Governor Amosun argued further that the primary election conducted by the party in the state, which produced Akinlade would stand, as against the announcement of an eight-man electoral committee, last Wednesday, that pronounced Dapo Abiodun as the governorship flagbearer of the party in the state.

The APC’s NWC had officially announced Abiodun as the winner of the primary election.

But Amosun speaking on the television programme, boasted that Abiodun’s candidature would not stand, promising to stand for fairness, justice and equity in ensuring that the mandate freely given to Akinlade by party faithful is not ‘stolen’.

Amosun said those opposing his moves within the party, had told President Muhammadu Buhari, unpleasant stories about him to favour their steps as regards the primary election.

He said, “We are waiting for them to come and tell the world that there was no election. They cannot come out because they know they have failed.

“That is why we are beaming the Senatorial and House of Assembly primaries live on three different television stations.

“They have told Mr. President all manners of stories, that Amosun has done this or that. Amosun will stand for justice, fairness and the truth.

“That is why in Ogun State come May 29, 2019, to the glory of God and the benevolence of Almighty God, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade will be the governor of the state.

“I have told them, if anybody wants to engage in political fight, they should wait for second term. Nobody should push us. We are not fools”.

He expressed satisfaction on the peaceful manner in which members of the party conducted themselves during the Senatorial and House of Assembly primary elections across the state.
