Fake Fashola's Wife Charged

A 53-year old teacher on grade level 10, Mrs Asogbon Victoria Abosede has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate's Court for allegedly impersonating the wives of Lagos State Governor, Dame Emmanuela Abimbola Fashola and her Osun State Counterpart, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola.

In a 10-count charge filed by the Lagos Attorney General before the court, Mrs Asogbon was alleged to have, at various times, represented herself as Mrs Fashola and Mrs Aregbesola through text messages to some individuals and collected huge sums of money and Ramadan gifts from them. In one of the charges, Mrs Asogbon was alleged to have fraudulently collected N100,000 from the Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Government Council after sending him a text message claiming that she was sent to collect the money by Fashola's wife.

Asogbon was also alleged to have sent similar text message to Isaac Omoregie, Education Secretary of Alimosho Local Government and collected three blackberry phones worth N105,000 from the chairman of the local government under the guise of being sent by the governor's wife.

In yet another incident, Asogbon was alleged to have secured redeployment from local government education authority, Alimosho to the Lagos State Basic Education Board through a text message purportedly sent to the Chairman of Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs Gbolahan Khadijat Daudu by Mrs Fashola.

State Prosecutor Babatunde Sunmonu also alleged that Asogbon at another time, claimed through a text message that she is a sister to Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola and attempted to defraud Mrs Gbolahan. The offences allegedly committed by the defendant are contrary to and punishable under sections 378, 312 and 96 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2011.

Asogbon pleaded not guilty to the charges after it was read to her in court. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Eniola Fabamwo subsequently granted her bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties. The defendant is also to deposit N250,000 with the court as part of the conditions for her release.

The matter has been adjourned till 2 September, 2013 for trial.

jhydebaba: 12000 naira multiply by 100000 applicants = 1,200,000,000 naira.

Let the govt of Ogun come out and tell us that they are broke instead of this game they're trying to play.

I once fell prey of their gimmick in 2011 when application form was 500 naira. After paying for the form, I was directed to go and pay one tax at the rate of 500 naira again.

I was later told that I need to submit my certificate of origin along with the form. That certificate cost me 4500 naira from my local govt.

Did I mention that I shuttle between Lagos, Abeokuta, Ijebu Ode while the madness last. I spent almost to 5000 naira on transportation and feeding.

At the end of it all, I was told that the form I obtained was that of Gbenga Daniel (former governor) that Amosun's (new governor) form is not out yet cheesy
Oh boi, I like dis ur love story o.

The Examination syllabus, past questions, ID Card, letter of admission to the examination and instructions to candidates will be given by the Ogun State Civil Service Commission as part of the package, which will also communicate the venue of the Examination.

Also why the discrimination between bsc n Hnd? Is it not the same govt that owns all the institution?

All candidates seeking appointment into the posts listed below must have a University degree in any of the disciplines indicated against each post. Candidate(s) with Higher National Diploma (HND) need not apply except the/she possesses a Post- Graduate Diploma and a Masters Degree or Professional Certificate in relevant field.
HealthWhat Happens During The Dying Process? by afunmmy(op): 3:06pm On Jul 24, 2013
The Scout motto is "be prepared," but it's hard to be prepared for death, be it our own or a loved one's. Too much is unknown about what dying feels like or what, if anything, happens after you die to ever feel truly ready. However, we do know a bit about the process that occurs in the days and hours leading up to a natural death, and knowing what's going on may be helpful in a loved one's last moments.

During the dying process, the body's systems shut down. The dying person has less energy and begins to sleep more and more. The body is conserving the little energy it has, and as a result, needs less nourishment and sustenance. In the days (or sometimes weeks) before death, people eat and drink less. They may lose all interest in food and drink, and you shouldn't force them to eat. In fact, pushing food or drink on a dying person could cause him or her to choke -- at this point, it has become difficult to swallow and the mouth is very dry.

As the person takes in less food and drink, he or she will urinate less frequently and have fewer bowel movements. The person may also experience loss of bladder and bowel control. People who are dying may become confused, agitated or restless, which could be a result of the brain receiving less oxygen. It can be disconcerting and painful to hear a loved one so confused in his or her last days.

The skin will also show the effects of slowing circulation and less oxygen -- the extremities, and later, the entire body, may be cool to the touch and may turn blue or light gray. Some skin may exhibit signs of mottling, which is reddish-blue blotchiness. As the person gets closer to death, it will become harder and harder to breathe. Respiration will be noisy and irregular; it will sometimes seem as if the person can't breathe at all. When there's fluid in the lungs, it can cause a sound known as the death rattle. It may be possible to alleviate the gurgling and congestion by raising the person's head. If the dying person is experiencing pain, he or she will usually be given medications to manage it.

When we're watching someone die, we may have a preconceived notion of how the person should handle death emotionally and spiritually. It's important to remember that every person experiences dying differently. Some people have the need to say goodbye or to hear from another person before death, some don't. Some people prefer to partake in religious rites, while others may remain silent until the end and pass away when everyone has left the room. Doctors and other professionals who manage end-of-life care advise loved ones to take their cues from the dying and avoid projecting their own desires or needs onto the person. They also urge loved ones to continue speaking comfortingly to a dying person -- hearing may be one of the last things to go.

Clinical death occurs when the person's heartbeat, breathing and circulation stop. Four to six minutes later, biological death occurs. That's when brain cells begin to die from lack of oxygen, and resuscitation is impossible.

This is the define issue of our time. He said. This is the make-or-break moment for the middle class, and for all those who are fighting to get into the middle class. Because what’s at stake is whether this will be a country where working people can earn enough to raise a family, build a modest savings, own a home , secure their retirement.

He’s right. The spread between the rich and poor has gotten wider over the decades. And the opportunities for the 99% have become harder to realize.

Rich kids are no smarter than similar kids their age from poor homes. Kids from the rich have it much easier than their counterparts from poor home. The world is not fair to those kids mainly because they had the misfortune of being born two miles away into a more difficult part of the world and with a race that makes realizing the opportunities that is been aired hard.

I am not a poor kid. I am a youth, a guy who comes from a middle class background from the city. So life was a bit easier for me. But that doesn’t mean that the prospects are impossible for those kids from the poor background and from the inner city.it doesn’t mean that there are no opportunities for them. Or that 1% controls the world and the rest of us have to fight over the scraps left behind. I don’t believe that. I believe that everyone in this country has a chance (OPPORTUNITY) to succeed.

It takes brains. It takes hard work. It takes a little luck. And a little helps from others. It takes the ability and the know-how to use the resources that are available. Like technology.
If I was born without opportunities: I would first and most importantly work to make sure I get the best grades possible. I would make it my #1 priority to be able to read sufficiently. I wouldn’t care if I was a student at the worst public school in the worst inner city “even the worst have their best. And the very best students, even at the worst schools have more opportunities.

I would use the technology available to me as a student. I would become expert at Google scholar, visit study site like Sparknote. I’d watch relevant teachings on academics Earth, TED and khan Academy. (I say relevant because some of these lectures may not be relevant to my work or may be too advanced for my age). I would use Skype to study with other student who also wants to do well in my school. I would make my writing and communication skills stay polished.

Is this easy? No it’s not. It’s hard; it takes a special kind of kid to succeed. And to succeed even with these tools is much harder. But it’s not impossible. The tools are there. The technologies are there. And the opportunities are there.
The division between the rich and the poor is a national problem. But the biggest challenge we face isn’t inequality. It’s ignorance. So many of us are from a family where parent are too busy and comes home at night plain tried to help us. Many of the people who are in position to help us are overburdened and too stressed to find time for us. Many of us don’t even have the brain to figure things out ourselves.

The resources we have can help us. but only if we want to be helped. Yes, there is much inequality. But the opportunities are still there in this country for those that are smart enough to go for it.

PoliticsThe Woolwich Killings- More Questions Than Answers by afunmmy(op): 1:23pm On May 25, 2013
Copied from Femi Fani-kayode
Some things just don't add up when it comes to the Woolwich killings. There are certainly more questions than answers. Let us examine the facts. An off-duty British soldier by the name of Lee Rigby was walking down the street in the charming and peaceful London suburb of Woolwich. All of a sudden, and out of the blue, he was randomly selected and run over by a car which was being driven by two young black men. After they hit him to the ground with the car the two young men jumped out of it, armed with matchetes, knives, a rusty old pistol and a meat cleaver, and in a deep and uncontrollable frenzy amidst shouts of ''Allahu Akbar'', proceeded to take his precious life by carving him up, mutilating him, butchering him and beheading him in full public glare. This all happened barely 100 metres away from Rigby's Army Barracks home. The attack began at 2.30 pm whilst the soldier gave up the ghost at approximately 3.00pm on a four-point inter-section roundabout and crossroads.

Immediately after finishing their gruesome act the killers then conducted their own impromptu press conference, brandishing knives and meat cleavers in blood-soaked hands, with random members of the public asking to be filmed and qouted whilst their clothes were soaked, drenched and dripping in human blood. After their ''presss conference'' ended they moved to the other side of the road and calmly waited for the police to arrive. They had all the time in the world to do so but they plainly refused to run and attempt to avoid arrest or the imminent arrival of the police. According to eye-witnesses (and I watched the footage on CNN) the police took no less than 30 minutes to get to the scene and confront the two killers. They did NOT get there in the 9 minutes that they are claiming.

When the police eventually arrived instead of surrendering peacefully to them or attempting to run away, the two young men charged at them brandishing their knives and meat cleaver in a menacing way and attempting to shoot their old and rusty pistol. Unfortunately for them the pistol exploded in the hand of the individual that tried to use it. They were both promptly shot, wounded and disarmed. Yet before the police arrived another rather curious incident took place. A strange yet very courageous Scandanavian woman, who just happened to be sitting on a bus that was driving past, told the bus driver to stop when she saw the carnage that was being inflicted on the dying soldier, got off the bus and calmly walked over to the killers even as they were still killing him. She then proceeeded to have a detailed conversation with them asking them why they were doing what they were doing and assuring them that in the end they would lose the fight because it was ''just them against many''.

Is this not a rather curious encounter? Who really was that Scandanavian lady and who does she really work for? Is she a genuine hero or is she what, in security and intelligence circles, is known as a controller? Is she part of the system because to do what she did took immense courage? So many questions still need to be asked and answered. For example why did the police take so long before responding? Why were the killers given all the time in the world to conduct a graphic, loud and unofficial press conference in the streets with members of the public after beheading and carving up the young soldier?

Even more curiously the police and intelligence agencies have now admitted that these two young men were "known to them". If that were the case how come they were never put under close surveillance, monitored, questioned or arrested? Why did all this have to take place at exactly 3.00pm in the afternoon, at that location (a crossroads of four junctions) and on that date? Why did the assailants have to cut off their victims head, hang around there for thirty minutes whilst ranting and whilst soaked and covered in their victims blood? Why did the killers insist that only women could come near the dying body of their victim? Why was this whole thing allowed to happen and to drag on like it did for 30 uninterrupted minutes by the authorities? Why did the police refuse to move in even though numerous members of the public were having detailed conversations with the assailants?

Was this whole thing some kind of state-sponsored illuminati-style human sacrifice? Was it designed and orchestrated by the authorities to create more terror in the land and to give them the opportunity to introduce more draconian laws, curb immigration and do away with even more civil liberties on the grounds that they wish to fight the very terror that they themselves created. Are we not being fooled again by the ''powers that be'' and the state just as we were over ''9-11'' and over the murder of Princess Diana, both of which were clearly inside jobs with strong illuminatti connections . If anyone doubts this assertion they ought to do themselves a favour and find the time to watch David Icke's revealing docuementry titled ''9/11-It Was An Inside Job''. It is on youtube. They can also find his numerous books and watch his numerous docuementries on the murder of Princess Diana. Their world view will change dramatically after that. Back to Woolwich.

Are there not clear parallels between the Woolwich incident and the Boston bombings which took place just a few weeks ago. Are there not similarities in the profiles of the two sets of killers in both incidents. Both operations were conducted in full public glare and in the afternoon. Both operations were carried out by two Americans and two British citizens respectively each of them with a foreign heritage and family ties with nations that are rife with and that are being torn apart by islamist terror. In the case of the Boston bombers the two perpetrators had strong links and family ties with Dagestan and Checnya in the case of the Woolwich incident both perpetrators had equally strong links and family ties with Nigeria. Both sets of killers were muslim fundamentalists and both sets were ''known to the intelligence agencies'' of their respective countries. Both countries in which the murders took place, i.e. Great Britain and the United States of America, are the greatest allies and leaders in the war against terror and they are both committed to standing ''shoulder to shoulder'' with one another in that fight. Is it not strange that similar acts of terror will take place in the two just a few weeks apart and that those acts of terror were all carried out by people with similar profiles and virtually the same age. The coincidences are just too many and things just don't add up. The performance of the British police particularly has opened up the door for a lot of speculation. They made so many mistakes. Yet I can assure you that the British police and intelligence agencies are NOT that sloppy. They are amongst the best, if not the best, in the world and they just don't make mistakes. There is far more to this whole thing than meets the eye and there is also a sinister purpose and agenda to it. The full picture has not yet been shown to us and perhaps it never will but little by little those that are well-versed in these matters will work it out and the truth will be exposed.

Yet the questions just keep coming. Is it possible that those two British boys of Nigerian descent were under some kind of ''Peter Powers''-type hypnosis and mind-control system which was triggered off by something or someone. In many of his books and videos David Icke has alluded to the usage and existence of such capabilities by the more advanced intelligence agencies in the world for the last ten years and he has cited many examples of such usage. Initially I was skeptical about his assertions until I listened and read carefully and I cross-checked the examples and the events that he cited. After that I was convinced that he was right and ever since then I have acknowledged the fact that we live in an exceptionally dangerous world where only the dullard would rule anything out. Back to the two young men that killed in Woolwich. Were they cultivated, ''programmed'' and used by agents of the illuminati in the British establishment to carry out this gruesome operation and this monstrous sacrifice? It is relevant and interesting to note that the two suspects were not just British citizens of Nigerian descent but that they were both muslim CONVERTS. That is to say they were both brought up as christians and then somewhere along the line they converted not just to islam but to it's most extreeme and radical brand. They became dangerous islamists that were prepared to kill for their faith. Who cultivated them and took them to this point and how did it get so bad? More importantly will this whole episode not give the western powers and the British people another reason to demonise islam and target mosques and muslim clerics? Is that part of the plan and the wider picture? Is the whole idea to create the atmosphere for vicious reprisal attacks against muslims and Nigerians in the U.K.?

Is all that I have written here far-fetched? You may believe so but I don't. And neither have I gone mad. The devil is real and the illuminati is it's toool for world control and domination. It has been around for years and those that are part of it operate in the deepest secrecy. Yet even if you do not agree with me on anyything that I have said here, the questions that I have raised are legitimate and they are indeed food for thought. In this game there are no coincidences and everything happens for a reason and has its own sybolism and purpose. As far as I am concerned only David Icke can crack this Woolwich nut and unravel it's secrets and I look forward to the day that he does. Meanwhile I pray that thesoul of Officer Rigby rests in perfect peace and I urge every Nigerian that is resident in or that is visiting the UK, especially if they are muslims, to be exceptionally careful in their movements and in their dealings with the British people and authorities. There is FAR more to this whole thing than meets the eye and whether anyone likes to admit it or not, sadly, there will be some kind of backlash against our people at some point.

As for the two British men of Nigerian descent (whose names I refuse to mention) that cut short the life of this brave young and heroic British soldier in the prime of his life for doing absolutely nothing wrong, may they both die a slow and terrible death and may they rot in hell.
FoodHealth Benefits Of Oatmeal by afunmmy(op): 2:34pm On May 17, 2013
By Murrye Bernard

You have often heard about oatmeal's health benefits, and that it is perhaps the ideal breakfast with which to begin your day. Oatmeal is not only low in fat and cholesterol-free, it is inexpensive and easy to prepare. It can help to prevent cancer and heart disease, as well as aid you in managing your weight.

Oatmeal Health Benefits: Disease Prevention

Oatmeal contains two types of dietary fiber: soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber can reduce LCL cholesterol (the bad kind) without affecting HDL cholesterol (the good kind). Ingesting soluble fiber also prevents a sudden spike in blood sugar, a danger for diabetics. Insoluble fiber, which can't be digested, helps prevent constipation. Additionally, it helps fight cancer because it attacks certain types of bile acid and reduces their toxicity. Oatmeal also contains phytochemicals, which may help to prevent certain types of cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.

Eating oatmeal can help prevent heart disease and the Food and Drug Administration has lent its seal of approval since 1997. Recent research proved it might be even more effective at preventing heart disease than the FDA originally believed. According to Dr. James W. Anderson, a professor of medicine and clinical nutrition at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, "Whole-grain products like oatmeal are among some of the best foods one can eat to improve cholesterol levels, in addition to other lifestyle choices."

Oatmeal contains a small amount of protein, as well as a multitude of vitamins and minerals:

Vitamin E

Vitamin B complex

Zinc

Calcium

Selenium

Copper

Iron

Manganese

Magnesium

Oatmeal and Weight Management

Maintaining a healthy weight is an important strategy in preventing health problems. Eating oatmeal regularly helps you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. The ideal serving size of oatmeal is one cup, cooked. Depending on what you add to it, this portion contains around 150 calories, making it a diet-friendly choice for breakfast. Avoid pre-packaged, flavored oatmeal, which contains excessive sugar, thus adding empty calories.Oatmeal is high in fiber, which aids in digestion and allows you to feel fuller, longer. Since it also stabilizes your blood sugar, you are less likely to snack on unhealthy, high sugar and carbohydrate snacks later in the day following a healthy breakfast of oatmeal. Consume oatmeal with a source of protein to give you optimal energy and keep you feeling fuller all morning.

Improving the Taste of Oatmeal

While the health benefits of oatmeal may be irrefutable, the taste might not appeal to everyone. Fortunately, there are several ways you can customize your oatmeal to improve the taste. Try making the oatmeal with milk in place of water. The texture will be richer and creamier, and you'll add protein and vitamin C, improving the health benefits as well. If you have a sweet tooth, add Stevia or Splenda to sweeten your oatmeal without adding calories. Alternately, you can add honey as natural sweetener.

Another way to add flavor to your oatmeal is by adding a flavored protein powder. The extra protein is beneficial, especially if your oatmeal breakfast follows an early morning workout. If you find the texture of oatmeal unappealing, add fruit. Tangy and sweet berries such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are good choices, as are sliced bananas. Fruit improves the taste and texture of oatmeal while adding additional vitamins, all without significantly increasing the calorie count.

Finally, if a bowl of oatmeal isn't appealing, no matter what is added, that's no excuse to miss out on oatmeal's health benefits. Try adding oatmeal to pancakes, or baking it into healthy desserts such as cookies or cakes

FoodIs Yogurt Good For You? by afunmmy(op): 2:22pm On May 17, 2013
Is Yogurt Good for You?

By Karen Frazier

Nutrition Counselor

Is yogurt good for you? It appears that the answer is a resounding yes.

What Is Yogurt?

Yogurt is a thick, custardy dairy product made from natural bacterial fermentation of milk. To make yogurt, active bacterial cultures are added to milk or cream. There are several different bacteria used to culture yogurt: lactobacillus acidophilus, streptococcus thermophilis and lactobacillus bulgaricus are common choices.

Commercially-prepared yogurt is available pretty much anywhere you shop for groceries. You can also make yogurt at home. Another popular form of yogurt is frozen yogurt, which can be found in grocery stores and at most places that sell ice cream.

Is Yogurt Good For You?

With bacteria like streptococcus as a main ingredient, you might be wondering, is yogurt good for you really? These bacteria are considered beneficial bacteria that help preserve a good balance of healthy intestinal flora. Some bacteria is necessary in the human body to keep yeast at bay. As a matter of fact, yogurt is recommended after a course of antibiotics to replenish the healthy bacteria that has been killed off by the antibiotics. After taking a broad-spectrum antibiotic, often the drug has not only killed the bacteria causing the infection, but also the beneficial bacteria the body needs to function and balance out yeast. Yogurt can be very helpful in replenishing this bacteria.

One of the terms that you hear bandied about in health circles these days is "probiotics". Quite simply, probiotics are living organisms that help to benefit your health. Probiotics have positive effects on digestion, intestinal health and immune function. Yogurt containing "live and active cultures" are probiotic in nature. For pro-biotic benefits be sure to check the label for the words, "live and active cultures."

Other Health Benefits of Yogurt

As you can see, it definitely makes points as far as probiotics, but what about the nutritional profile of yogurt. Are there other health benefits as well? The answer to that question is an unqualified yes.

Yogurt gives you a healthy dose of protein. A six ounce serving has about nine grams of protein.

Yogurt confers all of the health benefits of other dairy foods, including being rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin D and vitamins B-2 and B-12.

Here a few of the more common health factors that can affect a woman's ability to ovulate, conceive, or carry a pregnancy to term.

•Being overweight: Body fat levels that are 10 to 15 percent above normal can overload the body with estrogen, throwing off the reproductive cycle.

•Being underweight: Body fat levels 10 to 15 percent below normal can completely shut down the reproductive process.

•Having a hormonal imbalance: Irregularities in the hormone system (characterized by irregular menstrual cycles or short, long, or heavy periods) can affect ovulation.

•Having an autoimmune disorder: Diseases such as lupus, diabetes, thyroid disease, and rheumatoid arthritis can interfere with fertility.

•Taking medication: Antidepressants, antibiotics, painkillers, and other drugs used to treat chronic disorders may cause temporary infertility.

•Using tobacco or alcohol: Smoking may increase the risk of infertility in women; and even moderate alcohol consumption (as few as five drinks a week) can impair conception.

•Being exposed to occupational or environmental hazards: Prolonged exposure to high mental stress, high temperatures, chemicals, radiation, or heavy electromagnetic or microwave emissions may reduce a woman's fertility.

You should also tell your doctor if you've had a history of multiple miscarriages, painful menstrual cycles that require medication for pain relief, or abnormal Pap smears that have resulted in surgical treatment, as these factors can also affect fertility.

Fallopian tube disease

Fallopian tube disease accounts for about 20 percent of infertility cases treated, according to RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. Since tubal scarring or blockage is often caused by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), pelvic inflammatory disease, or certain surgeries, alert your doctor if you've had:

•An STD, such as gonorrhea, syphilis, or chlamydia

•Pelvic pain, unusual vaginal discharge, and/or bleeding, with or without a fever

•Pelvic surgery for a ruptured appendix, ovarian cysts, or an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy that takes place outside of the uterus, usually in the fallopian tubes)

If a doctor suspects a problem, he or she can perform a hysterosalpingogram -- an X-ray that can evaluate the condition of the uterus and determine if the fallopian tubes are obstructed.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue from the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, and/or bowel. Research indicates that it accounts for between 5 and 30 percent of female infertility. Several factors may contribute to infertility, including:

•Scar tissue: Rigid webs of scar tissue may form between the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, preventing the transfer of the egg to the fallopian tubes.

•Cysts: Endometrial cysts may grow inside the ovaries and prevent the release of the egg or its collection by the fallopian tube.

•Poor egg implantation: Endometriosis may prevent the fertilized egg from adhering to the uterine wall.

Early detection of the condition is key to its successful control and to preserving fertility, so tell your doctor if you've had:

•A family history of endometriosis

•Painful menstrual cramps or pain at ovulation

•Extremely heavy menstrual flow

•Diarrhea or painful bowel movements, especially around your period

•Painful sexual intercourse

In some cases, women with endometriosis have no painful symptoms. In these instances, the condition can only be confirmed with an outpatient surgical procedure called a laparoscopy.

Sexually transmitted diseases

More than 65 million Americans, including teenagers, are infected with at least one STDs. Some STDs are asymptomatic and lie undetected in women. (For instance, 70 percent of women with chlamydia show no symptoms and consequently don't seek treatment.) The bad news is that STDs can lead to tubal scarring, ectopic pregnancy, other reproductive problems, and ultimately infertility if left untreated. To reduce this risk:

•Use latex condoms to stop diseases from spreading

•Consider that people with multiple sex partners are at the highest risk for STDs

•Detect and treat infections early if possible (both partners should be treated if either has an infection)

Men's Issues

About 35 percent of fertility cases can be traced to a problem in the man, and an additional 20 percent to a problem in both partners. The following is a partial list of risk factors that may contribute to male infertility:

•Being a smoker: Smoking impairs the ability of sperm to move (its motility).

•Using alcohol: Having more than one or two drinks a day can affect the quality and quantity of sperm, lower testosterone levels, and contribute to erectile dysfunction.

•Taking illegal drugs: Cocaine or heavy marijuana use may temporarily reduce the number and quality of sperm by as much as 50 percent.

•Taking prescription drugs: Some medications, such as those for ulcers or psoriasis, can slow or prevent the production of sperm.

•Being exposed to toxic substances or hazards on the job: Chronic exposure to elements such as lead, cadmium, mercury, hydrocarbons, pesticides, radioactivity, and X-rays may have an impact on sperm count and quality.

•Exposing genitals to heat: The frequent use of saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, whirlpools, and hot baths can temporarily impair sperm production and reduce sperm count.

•Having certain conditions or illnesses: Men with a history of prostatitis or genital infection, mumps after puberty, surgery on their hernia, undescended testicles, or scrotal varicose veins (varicocele) may also experience a decrease in fertility.

Health12 Most Common Factors Affecting Female And Male Fertility by afunmmy(op): 7:25pm On May 16, 2013
Here’s one of life’s big ironies for a significant number of adults in the United States: We try to avoid pregnancy for years, and then when we're finally ready to get pregnant and start a family, we can’t. For anyone planning to become pregnant soon, or already trying, now is the time to check in with a physician to discuss any factors that might have an impact on fertility and conception. Here are a dozen of the most common.
12. Heat

Who it affects: Men

Why: The enzymes required for the production of sperm are very sensitive to heat. Men who frequent saunas or hot tubs, wear tight pants, sit at a desk all day, or stand in front of a hot stove may be inadvertently heating their testicles to such a degree that they can’t make sperm and get their partners pregnant. “The reason that the testicles hang out and away from the body is that it’s about 4 degrees cooler than the normal body temperature,” explains Marc Goldstein, M.D., director of the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery at the New York Weill Cornell University Medical Center in Manhattan. “That cooler temperature is required for sperm to thrive.”

What you can do: Avoid overheating the reproductive organs by staying out of hot tubs and saunas, keeping laptop computers off your lap, etc. If your job requires you to sit for long periods, get up and move around frequently, and don’t sit with your legs crossed. Wear loose-fitting underwear and clothing.

11. Sex at the Wrong Time

Who it affects: Women and men

Why: “If you’re a partner in a two-career marriage, it can be challenging to ‘get together’ during the right time of the month,” says Dr. Goldstein.

What you can do: Chart your body temperature or use an ovulation predictor kit so that you know when you’re going to ovulate. Have sex at least every other day starting at least a week before your ovulation date. “Once the woman ovulates, it’s too late,” says Dr. Goldstein.

10. Medications

Who it affects: Women and men

Why: There are several commonly used medications that can affect fertility. Men who take the ulcer drug cimetidine (Tagamet) or the heart drug digitalis have low sperm counts. A number of drugs used to treat high blood pressure may affect ejaculation, the “motility,” or swimming ability, of sperm, or prevent the sperm from reaching the egg, and the antibiotics sometimes used to treat urinary tract infections can inhibit sperm production. Women who use decongestants may be inadvertently drying up the cervical mucus that is essential for conception (but this is a rare cause of infertility).

What you can do: Tell your ob/gyn about any medications, even over-the-counter drugs, that you and your partner are taking. There may be an alternative medication you can take while you’re trying to get pregnant. Or, as with the decongestants, you may need to temporarily stop using the drug.

9. “Structural” Problems

Who it affects: Women and men

Why: Eggs and sperm need to have a relatively clear path in order to meet. “If the woman has uterine fibroids or polyps, endometriosis, or scarring in any of her reproductive organs, or if the man has a condition such as a missing vas deferens [a congenital abnormality] then it makes it difficult for the sperm and egg to get together,” says Dr. Goldstein.

What you can do: Chances are if you fall into this category, you have sought fertility treatment for your condition. But if you’ve been trying to get pregnant and haven’t, you may have one of these conditions and not know it because you don’t have any symptoms.

8. Cancer Treatment

Who it affects: Men and women

Why: Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men between the ages of 15 and 45. “Prime fertility years,” says Dr. Goldstein. While the cancer doesn’t lead to infertility, the treatment for it does. “The treatments that cure cancer in men often cause them to become permanently sterile,” he says. (Treatments for some cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and tumors often cause only temporary sterility.) The best way to ensure that a man who is being treated for testicular cancer can preserve sperm is to . . . preserve sperm. “Freeze as many samples as you possibly can before treatment,” advises Dr. Goldstein.

Women who have been treated for cancer with surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy may experience early menopause, which will prevent pregnancy. But advances in freezing eggs and ovarian tissue are now making it possible to get pregnant later.

What you can do: If you’re facing cancer treatment, you should discuss your family plans with your physician so she can take that into account while designing a treatment plan for you. Freezing sperm, eggs, embryos, or ovarian tissue are all ways that cancer patients can become pregnant in the future.

7. Varicoceles

Who it affects: Men

Why: Varicoceles are varicose veins in the scrotum. The enlarged or dilated veins cause blood to pool, which raises the temperature in the scrotum; the heat affects sperm production. “This is the most common cause of male infertility,” says Dr. Goldstein. About 15 percent of men have this condition and many of them don’t know it, he says.

What you can do: Varicoceles are repaired with a minor surgical procedure during which a surgeon “ties off” the varicose veins.

6. Irregular Ovulation

Who it affects: Women

Why: The average menstrual cycle is 28 days (but a cycle between 23 and 35 days is considered normal, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists). Ovulation, during which an egg moves down one of the fallopian tubes toward the uterus, takes place about 14 days before the first day of a woman’s next period. But there are a number of conditions that can cause irregular ovulation. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS); hyper- and hypothyroidism; hormonal imbalances (for example, having too much male hormone); being over-or underweight; stress; “fad” diets, and perimenopause are common reasons for ovulation problems, says Veronica Ravnikar, M.D., chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, and vice chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Brighham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

What you can do: Keep a basal body temperature chart so you can know when you are likely to be ovulating and time sex accordingly. You can also buy ovulation predictor kits that are designed for at-home use. Most work by testing a sample of urine at a certain point in the menstrual cycle; when the test strip detects a surge in leutenizing hormone (LH), it means ovulation is about to occur. Of course, if you’re concerned that a medical condition such as PCOS is affecting ovulation, tell your physician right away since there are several medications (and other treatments) that can help stimulate ovulation and help you get pregnant.

5. Alcohol and Smoking

Who it affects: Women and men

Why: Alcohol is a “gonadotoxin,” meaning it acts like poison in the testicles and adversely affects sperm production. “Men should limit themselves to two drinks twice a week,” says Dr. Goldstein. Women should also drink moderately when trying to conceive, and then abstain completely as soon as they become pregnant.

Both cigarette and marijuana use result in the production of abnormal sperm. (Even smoking marijuana as infrequently as once every two weeks affects sperm.) Women who smoke cigarettes deplete their eggs more rapidly than women who don’t, and smoking also alters a woman’s estrogen production. Estrogen plays an essential role in the production of cervical mucus, which in turn helps deliver sperm to the egg. Nicotine in the cervical mucus of women who smoke also kills sperm,  making pregnancy less likely.

What you can do: If you smoke (or use drugs), stop immediately. Limit alcohol consumption to an occasional social drink. Women should stop drinking completely as soon as they know they’re pregnant.

4. Being overweight or extremely underweight

Who it affects: Men and women

Why: Women who are very underweight may not be ovulating normally, and those who are overweight may also have hormonal imbalances, including PCOS. Men who are underweight may have lower than normal levels of testosterone, and being either under- or overweight has been linked with a lower sperm count and concentration.

What you can do: If you’re over- or underweight, make the changes necessary to get yourself to a healthy weight. (If you’re already trying to conceive, make sure your diet remains nutritionally sound.)

3. Stress

Who it affects: Men and women

Why: In men, stress has been shown to affect fertility by both lowering sperm volume and raising the percentage of abnormal sperm. Women who are chronically stressed can produce less gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which starts a cascade of hormone-related changes that prevent ovulation, explains Dr. Goldstein.

What you can do: “Learn to manage stress with exercise and meditation,” suggests Dr. Goldstein.

2. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)

Who it affects: Women and men

Why: “Left untreated, STIs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause scarring in women’s fallopian tubes, uterus, and ovaries, which can prevent sperm from getting to an egg, or prevent a fertilized egg from getting to the uterus,” explains Dr. Ravnikar. Scarring in the tubes can also result in a tubal pregnancy. In men, scarring in the ducts of the epididymis, vas deferens, and ejaculatory glands can block the path that sperm must travel to reach an egg and fertilize it.

What you can do: If you or your partner has ever had an STI, be sure to mention it to your ob-gyn, primary care physician, or urologist at your next visit. In many cases scar tissue can be surgically removed, making pregnancy possible.

1. Age

Who it affects: Women and men (women primarily)

Why: By the time a woman is in her middle 30s, she has lost many of her viable eggs through menstruation and natural attrition. “The optimal age for a women to become pregnant, at least in terms of biology, is in her 20s,” says Dr. Ravnikar. And even though men can technically father children well into old age (Dr. Goldstein had one patient who was 87 years old when he fathered a child), the risk of having a child with chromosomal abnormalities, especially Down syndrome, rises after age 35 for men, just as it does for women.

What you can do: If you’re younger than 35, most ob/gyns won’t refer you to a specialist for fertility treatment until you’ve been trying to get pregnant for at least a year. If you’re over 35, though, consider seeing a fertility specialist even earlier. “The sooner you get help, the greater your odds of getting pregnant,” says Dr. Ravnikar.

FoodHealthy Tips Of Banana To The Human Body by afunmmy(op): 9:57am On Apr 20, 2013
BANANA -A very interesting FACTS

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!...
This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

DEPRESSION:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS:
Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

ANEMIA:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

BLOOD PRESSURE:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

BRAIN POWER:
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

CONSTIPATION:
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

HANGOVERS:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

HEARTBURN:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

MORNING SICKNESS:
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

MOSQUITO BITES:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

NERVES:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system..

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

ULCERS:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL:
Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has FOUR TIMES the protein, TWICE the carbohydrate, THREE TIMES the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A BANANA a day keeps the doctor away!'

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time!

Bread, Rice, Popcorn And 6 Other Foods You Should Not Eat

Making healthy food choices is often difficult and confusing, but there are a number of specific foods to avoid in almost every circumstance because they provide virtually no health benefits while posing plenty of health risks. Here are nine foods you should never eat again if you care about preserving your long-term health…

White bread, refined flour

These are generally toxic for the body because they have been stripped of virtually all vitamins, minerals, fibre, and other important nutrients. They are not properly digestable and assimilated. Refined white flour has also been bleached with chlorine and brominated with bromide, two poisonous chemicals that have been linked to causing thyroid and organ damage.

Tip: Choose  brown bread or whole wheat bread over white bread. Reduce consumption of patries made from white flour.

Conventional frozen meals

With the exception of a few truly healthy frozen meal brands, most conventionally-prepared frozen meals are loaded with preservatives, processed salt, hydrogenated oils and other artificial ingredients, not to mention the fact that most frozen meals have been heavily pre-cooked, rendering their nutrient content minimal.

Tip: As much as possible, eat meals in their fresh, unpreserved state.

White rice

Like white bread, white rice has been stripped of most of its nutrients, and separated from the bran and germ, two natural components that make up rice in its brown form. Even so-called “fortified” white rice is nutritionally deficient, as the body still processes this refined food much differently than brown rice, which is absorbed more slowly, and does not cause the same spike in blood sugar that white rice does.

Tip: Eat “unpolished” rice as much as possible in place of the “parboiled” or “polished” variety.

Microwaveable popcorn

This processed food which is a favourite among moviegoers and regular snackers is one of the unhealthiest foods you can eat. Practically, every component of microwaveable popcorn is unhealthy and disease-promoting. It contains a chemical known as diacetyl that can actually destroy the lungs.

Cured meat products

Deli meats, sausage, hot dogs, bacon, and many other meats are often loaded with sodium nitrite and other chemical preservatives linked to causing heart disease and cancer.

Tip: Have preference only for fresh, uncured meats.

Conventional protein, energy bars.

These are meal replacements containing processed soy protein, refined sugar, hydrogenated fat, and other harmful additives that contribute to chronic illness.

Margarine

Hidden in all sorts of processed foods, margarine, a hydrogenated trans-fat oil, is something you will want to avoid at all costs for your health. Contrary to popular belief, butter and saturated fats in general are not unhealthy, especially when they are derived from pastured animals that feed on grass rather than corn and soy.

Tip: Extra-virgin coconut oil or olive oil are much better than margarine.

Soy milk and soy-based meat substitutes

Nearly all non-organic soy ingredients are of genetically modified origin, most soy additives are processed using a toxic chemical known as hexane, which is linked to causing birth defects, reproductive problems, and cancer. Unfermented soy is also highly estrogenic, which can distort hormone balance.

”Diet” products

Many so-called “diet” products on the market today contains artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose, both of which are linked to causing neurological damage, gastrointestinal problems, and endocrine disruption. Many diet products also contain added chemical flavoring agents to take the place of fat and other natural components that have been removed to artificially reduce calorie content.

Tip: Stick with whole foods that are as close to nature as possible, including high-fat foods grown the way nature intended, and your body will respond surprisingly well.

Career10 Hard Way To Make It In Life by afunmmy(op): 10:08am On Jan 14, 2013
Some of the most worthwhile things in life aren’t easy. One of the things I dislike most about “power of positive thinking”-style personal development philosophies (such as “The Secret”) is the implication that if you just have the right attitude and the right state of mind, the rest will just fall into place. I think it causes a lot of hurt and disappointment in people who invest their time, effort, and of course, money into these systems and find themselves, one or two or five years down the line, exactly where they were before.

“You must not have wanted it badly enough,” the authors of these philosophies seem to be saying. “There must still be something wrong with you.”

I don’t think that, ultimately, God or the Spirits or the Universe or the world “provides”. I think a lot of times the world puts obstacles in our way, and no amount of positive thinking makes them go away. And I think that a lot of the people who are “successful”, by whatever standard you want to use, have as much “wrong” with them as a lot of the ones who aren’t successful. Maybe more.

In any case, wherever the motivation comes from, the things that really make our lives worth living can be quite difficult. (And who knows, maybe thinking positively helps take some of the edge off of doing the hard stuff?) What’s more, they can take a lot of time to do, and even more time to get right. But I think that doing is the important thing, not the result — throwing yourself into something with all your heart, mind, and soul is the success, not the “growing rich” part.

Here, then, are ten things that are really hard to do but which have an incredible power to make your life better.

1. Start a business

My dad, who has been self-employed almost all his life, used to tell me that “Only jerks work for jerks.” Working for someone else puts you at their mercy and subjects you to their whims — and often their poor management skills. Not only that, but the profit of your labor goes into their pockets.

Starting a business puts you in control of your work life, and your money. It’s hard — small businesses fail every day. But the rewards of even a failed venture can far outweigh the risk. Just knowing that your failure was the result of your own choices — instead of a decision made at a corporate office a thousand miles away — can be liberating.

2. Organize a group

What makes you passionate? Chances are, being around other people who are passionate about the same thing would make you even more passionate about it. Often the only thing keeping you and them from coming together is that nobody’s put out a sign saying “Come and talk!” Getting a group going is a tremendous challenge, and very often the personality of the founder leaves a tremendous mark on the group as a whole. Seeing a group grow and take off can be tremendously awarding — but even failing can teach you important things about leadership.

3. Volunteer

I don’t mean spend Thanksgiving at a soup kitchen, though that can often be challenging enough. What I mean, though, is to make a long-term investment in your community by joining school committees, donating three hours a week in a shelter, hosting a monthly read-along at the library, tutoring at-risk children after school, teaching adult literacy classes at a local prison, or any of a million ways to play a role in the lives of people who need you. Perhaps the most pressing need in our society is for people to take an interest in and engage with their communities.

4. Take an active role in your children’s’ activities

Pick one thing your child does and commit yourself to it. Coach their team, become a Brownie leader, spend a weekend day in the workshop with them, buy a bike and ride along with them — make their passions your own. Don’t crowd them — especially if you have teenagers — but show them that you value something they do by giving them your time and interest.

5. Start a family

I don’t mean have kids. That can be all too easy! Make the decision to have a family, which means to give of yourself fully to another person or several people. Risk being vulnerable by sharing your fears, quirks, and failures with someone else; you might find it makes you stronger than ever before.

This transcends marriage and parenthood. There are lots of people who can’t marry because the law prevents it. There are people who can’t have children. These are not the essential ingredients of family. The essential ingredients are love, mutual respect, trust, and open giving. Find (or make) someone you can share that with.

6. Write a book

It feels really, really good to see your name on a book cover, but it feels even better to know that someone, somewhere, might find his or her life changed by something you’ve written. Share your particular expertise, whether it’s story-telling or woodworking, with the world — or just your family. Time isn’t the big issue (though it is an issue — don’t let the positive thinkists tell you otherwise!) but if you commit yourself to a page a day — a couple hundred words — within a year you’ll have a pretty decent-sized manuscript. That’s something to work with!

7. Learn an art

Take painting lessons, a pottery workshop, a music class, whatever — learn to express yourself and you might find a self worth expressing. Don’t settle for being a “Sunday painter” — devote yourself to an art and master it.

8. Run for office

The world needs smart, dedicated, and upright people to take care of all the fiddly details of making things run. As it happens, running for local office isn’t as challenging as you’d think (which isn’t to say it’s easy) — Michael Moore, the filmmaker, ran for school board while he was still in high school. Just for kicks. And won! It’s fine to have your heart set on the White House or Capital Hill, but try your hand at city councilperson, county registrar, or something closer to home first. And be clean — run for the experience of putting your community on a better path, and not for the power.

9. Take up a sport

Enough with the working out already! Sure, you want to be healthy, but the whole treadmill-running, iPod-listening, 45-minutes-after-work thing is a little anti-social, don’t you think? OK, you want some solitude once in a while — fine. But at least add a sport, something you do with other people. You’ll be spending time interacting with others, while also developing team-building and leadership skills. And, you might learn something from your fellow players.

10. Set an outrageous goal — and achieve it!

The nine tips above are only a handful of ideas about how to make your life better. Maybe you want to record an album, climb a mountain, make the Hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca), see 20 countries — don’t just settle for tiny goals, push yourself all the way to the edge and figure out how to make the craziest thing you can think of happen. Yes, you’ll have to learn a lot along the way, and plan months or even years in advance — that’s what makes outlandish goals worthwhile.

I don’t want to suggest that you need to do all these things to be happy — doing just one is quite a handful! But if you’re unhappy with your life, if you want to make a change for the better, you need to think big and you need to be ready to put in the work to make it happen. It’s easy to “visualize success” and to “think positively”; it’s not so easy to throw yourself into the unknown and make it work. But if you can make it work, you’ll gain far more than you can imagine.
