Rossikk: Well, in principle, yes, capitals should not be termed unheralded, but in reality, how often do we hear Akure mentioned in national discourse? Or Dutse? In fact Dutse might as well not exist for the majority of Nigerians!
This is not only what you think, this is a reflection of your own ignorance. The fact that you know nothing about Jigawa state in Nigeria doesn't mean other people don't.
We've discussed Jigawa several times on NL and Jigawa is not a village or dot on the Nigerian map that people know nothing about.
In fact, with just N115 budget, Jigawa is doing way better than states with N500 billion oil budget like Akwa Ibom.
There tons of Videos on Youtube detailing Jigawa's emerging status..
The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Osun State Government have procured two 35KW turbines for installation at Ikeji-Ile hill top in Oriade Local Government Council of Osun State in order to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the people of the state.
The two turbines which will create 24hours electricity for the communities connected to the mini- hydro power generation are to be installed at the natural water flow from Ikeji-Ile hill top aimed at solving the problem of power irregularities in the state.
Delivering the two turbines to the people of Ikeji-Ile, the Chairman, Hydro Power Electricity Generating Company for UNIDO, Engineer Atilade Oshoniyi assured that his expert team will swing into action immediately for the installation of the turbines.
He explained that the gesture is at the instance of the State Government and promised the readiness of UNIDO to continue to support the state adding that it is a new and evolving way to create empowerment for the people at the grassroots level.
Oshoniyi said that the organization has researched into the natural velocity of water flow from the Ikeji-Ile hill top saying that it has more than enough water to power 70kilowatt output being planned for the area.
While describing the gesture as novel start in assisting artisans and trading hub such as tailors, welders and other that require constant electricity to perform and export their end products, he maintained that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is passionate about the completion of the project in good time for the use of people of the state.
Speaking after receiving the turbines, the Arakeji of Ikeji-Ile and traditional ruler of Ira-Ikeji, Oba Adebayo Ogunmokun and Oba Oluropo Fatanmi commended the state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, for responding positively to the problems of the people of the area.
They said that Governor Aregbesola has demonstrated to the people of the state that he is a good servant of his mother land.
Oba Ogunmokun noted that the gesture will go down in history of the state that their communities will be the first that will generate power outside PHCN.
While describing the project as unique and promising fulfillment by the current administration, the traditional rulers said that it will assist in no small way the artisans whose jobs have been affected by the irregularities of power.
He assured that the entire community will give support to the state government in its efforts at enhancing economic activities at the grassroots level.
Oba Fatanmi however called on the state government to come to the aid of the community to rehabilitate road leading to the community for easy transportation of raw materials and food items.
The Governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Wednesday said the decision to send stranded medical students of the Osun State University to a foreign university to complete their medical studies was borne out of the conviction of his administration that no sacrifice would be too much to secure better future for children.
The Governor stated this Wednesday night while receiving the report of the Committee on Transfer of UNIOSUN medical students to Ukraine.
Last year, Aregbesola's government sponsored 87 medical students of the UNIOSUN to V.N Karazin Kharkvin National University in Ukraine to complete their medical programme.
The students had had their programme stalled due to non-availability of a Teaching Hospital for the state university.
Aregbesola said that his government facilitated the transfer of the students because it believes that a responsible government must fulfill its part of a pact entered to with the people irrespective of which person or party in power signed the agreement in so far that governance is a continuum.
Last year, government spent about N162Million to bail out 87 medical students who now continue their programme in Karazin University.
He said, "I feel fulfilled that the students, who would have had their dreams aborted, would now realise their ambition of becoming a full time medical Doctor.
"We have kept faith with these children, their parents and Guidance towards realising their life time ambition. In couple of years from now we will be celebrating their graduation as trained Medical Doctors.
"This government is promising that it will assuage the challenges that the students may be facing during their stay in Ukraine." The governor told the gathering.
The governor also clarified that of the 98 students made provisions for in the transfer scheme, 87 of them eventually took the offer as parents of the remaining concerned students had made different arrangements for their children
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the transfer committee, Dr. Simeon Afolayan commended the governor for the huge amount spent to keep the hope of the students alive.
Afolayan revealed that over 115 students of the UNIOSUN now pursue their academic programme in Ukraine because of the tremendous support of Aregbesola's administration.
Afolayan noted that, "Despite the fact that not all the 115 students are of Osun state origin, Aregbesola's government, in its magnanimity sponsored the students without any string attached. This means that the students did not sign any bond with the government.
"For this gesture, posterity will not forget Aregbesola's courage and magnanimity to the medical students of UNIOSUN." Afolayan stressed.
One of the parents of the beneficiaries who is also the Chairman of the Parents representatives to government, Dr. Ademola Ayodele thanked the governor for a rare expression of compassion shown to their wards.
Ayodele said the news of the transfer of the students to Ukraine first came to them as a dream, but with the courage, commitment and determination of government the goal was achieved at the end.
omonnakoda: You do not need to have oil in your country to have refineries. Most of the Countries that buy Crude oil have little or none and that is why they buy it so let them try another argument. We can source oil from Angola Ghana or Libya even. There are many markets for refined products and petrochemicals including the obvious one Nigeria
Unfortunately for these village illiterates, they don't know and they reason with their warped emotions and not worldly knowledge and rational sense..
bilms: A friend of mine (Tunde Salau) who also choose to experience the adventure of the railway after reading my experience last year just informed me that, omo i left ilorin via train around 7 am yesterday and got to lagos this morning around 5am. men, i nearly die inside the train.
atlwireles: [s] Whoa, whoa, Nigeria produces 2.4 million barrels per day. So Ondo produces 33% of Nigeria'S crude, yet collect less than Edo from the derivation fund OMO UNA TOO MUCH. Do you just pull this crap from planet pluto or what[/s]
According to the people, Ondo State currently produces over 20 per cent of the total oil production in the country, citing the recent statistics which shows that the various oil companies operating in the state produce over 800,000 barrels of oil per day.
mekaboy: The investment is a good one, and who knows maybe the subsidy will eventually be removed before the refinery is done. Now this investment is aimed at refining atleast 50% of crude oil gotten from the whole country to be able to break even and make profit. In a case where things go wrong in 2015, and the niger delta oil supply is no more, this refinery will have to start drilling for oil in lagos and ondo, laying pipes for distribution which will take more time and money.
Now oil in lagos and ondo alone will be less than 5% of Nigeria's oil, this means that the over $9b investment will operate at 5% capacity, and might not recover the capital in 200years to come.
Ondo produces 800,000 barrels of oil per day and Dangote needs just about half of that to stay in business....
You know our brothers are only good at whining all night long or issuing worthless ultimatum. smh
Sometimes I feel sorry for them because showing up all the time to render their hatred and bad bele routine is really not bad bele or hating, they are basically exposing their pain, sorrow and sadness because they are getting left behind every hour and everyday. They are in pain for real
DANGOTE IS the No.1 CABAL. - QED (Solved within secs)
How dumb and clueless not to know. Dangote didn't become the richest African man by playing boyscout..
nedu666: [s]the more u look the less u see. i have few questions
1. will the cable importing fuel give way to dangote
2. will govt subsidise dangote and neglect importers
i ask these questions because i dont think pausity of funds is why we dont have functional refineries rather it is vested interest and for dangote to succed he must be ready to fight these interests. which frankly speaking i dont see how he will pull that one.[/s]
This is the ibo in you talking so STFU. You are irrelevant, your village is irrelevant.
Worry about your village with zero investments and bleak future..
Covenant Ground Refinery Project – OK Free Trade Zone
OK Free Trade Zone
.
The OK Free Trade Zone (OKFTZ or the Zone) is a fully integrated state-of-the-art industrial zone. The OKFTZ provides access roads, general services, and utilities to companies. The Zone is less than 100 km from Lagos and is easily accessible by road, air, and water. The large sea front offers easy access to the deep sea port. The OKFTZ deep sea port acts as a gateway to and from Nigeria, serving as an alternative to the congested Port of Lagos.
.
The OKFTZ provides a wide range of financial benefits including no taxes, levies, or duties. The foreign exchange regulations do not apply here and there is a 100% exemption of VAT and withholding taxes. Exemption from import and export taxes including construction materials is also part of the OKFTZ’s appeal. The tax benefits can represent a savings of up to 35% on a project resulting in a saving of more than 100 times the cost of the land.
.
The OKFTZ is managed and developed by OKFTZ Enterprise, a Public-Private Partnership composed by Ondo and Ogun state and IPEM (International Port Engineering and Management). Covenant Ground Refinery Project – OK Free Trade Zone
.
The Oil economy the world over is a capital intensive and technology driven business where only formidable, well focused, and properly motivated organizations can play a formidable role in the exploration or production of petroleum products. This role is what motivates Covenant Ground Group’s flag ship subsidiary Covenant Ground Refinery Limited. The company is organized to be among the first privately owned refineries to successfully plan, build and operate in Nigeria and is jointly owned by the Ondo State Government, which holds a marginal equity of 5%. Covenant Ground Refinery Limited is structured as a Hi-Tech Modular Integrated Crude Oil Refining Facility rated to operate at a full capacity of 150,000 barrels per day. The refinery is designed to produce multiple primary products which would include: Premium Motor Spirit (P.M.S), Automotive Gas Oil (A.G.O), Dual Purpose Kerosene (D.P.K) / Jet fuel (, (JP-A), LPG, Naphtha and Hydro-Heater.
.
The facility would include a fertilizer – processing unit, producing Ammonia and Urea; and Asphalt. The proposed location for the Covenant Ground Group Refinery is in Olokola Free Trade Zone ,Olokola (OKFTZ) Ondo State, South West Nigeria on a 150 acre parcel of land within the oil and gas logistics base of OKFTZ .
. The Covenant Ground Refinery Ltd, refinery project is to be located in the OKFTZ. It is an essential project for Nigeria to help the economy produce fuel products internally and reduce the national deficit by reducing oil product imports. This low complexity, 25,000 BPD Nigerian crude project with 6,000 BPD gasoline reformer (expandable to 150,000 BPD with 36,000 BPD gasoline) will improve the supply requirements of Nigeria. The product slate consists of one grade of motor gasoline (regular unleaded MOGASRON 90), dual purpose kerosene (DPK)/Jet fuel, AGO diesel, and fuel oil (long residue). The guidelines for this project will be comparable to any similar worldwide project in the industry with regards to safety quality and environmental requirements.
mekaboy:Well dangote has jst signed the loan he has started nothing yet, I am sure he will want to be sure of the political direction of the country before he proceeds.
He knows what politics is all about and the effect it has on business, he wld not be where he is today without politics.
And for those of you who cannot argue logically or know nothing about business management and project management, you are the ones quick to insult people.
I will suggest you go and read books or do research. If you argument is going to be based or region ethnicity or insults, then we r certainly not on the same level.
I truly admire your comedic skills and penchant for idiotic rants...
Sincere 9gerian: While the presidency and party leaders seek for ways of amicably resolving the crisis, their openness to dialogue should not be taken for cowardice. My position is that any differences that cannot be settled amicably through dialogue should be settled in the field.
naptu2: Or go by rail They planned to run a monorail service from Calabar to Tinapa and a regular rail service from Calabar to Lagos. Sadly that remains a dream.
Exactly. but maybe fast trains because def not the obsolete locomotives Nigeria is spending billions on today...
I still think road travel remains the best option simply because it's possible to make it to Tinapa from Lagos within 4-5 hours.
The distance from Lagos to Tinapa is just a little over the same distance from Los Angeles to Las vegas and with solid roads to travel on, they'll strike Gold in Tinapa in no time..
Seriously, showing other people pictures of you flossing and enjoying all the glitz in Dubai looks more sexy to the average Nigerian than showing folks pictures of you in Obudu or Tinapa.
Duke made some mistakes and he really should not have invested a dime on a project like Tinapa.
Ultimately, Nigeria as a country failed Tinapa and Tinapa itself remains a sad victim of lack of supporting federal and state infrastructures and lack of buying power and disposable income of the local population and inability of potential deep pocket visitors from Lagos and other parts of Nigeria to bring in cash and patronage.
The state's local population can not adequately support Tinapa and because they don't have the buying power and disposable income to do so, and folks from out of state like Lagos can not just get up and say yes we are going to Tinapa for the weekend because of lack of good road infrastructures to move visitors from Lagos to Tinapa in 2-3 hours like it takes Californians to drive down from Cali to Vegas ....even affordable air travel in Nigeria is reserved for the super rich and elites..
Tinapa remains a good good project, but we are not ready for such projects now. We just don't have the means and infrastructures to support any Tinapa.
Wednesday, September 04, 2013 Dangote Industries Limited will today sign a loan agreement with a consortium of both local and international banks to the tune of $3.3billion for the purpose of constructing the biggest Petroleum Oil Refinery & Petrochemical/ Fertilizer Plants in Nigeria. The plants, which will cost a total of $9 billion will generate up to 9,500 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs, in addition to reducing current volumes of refined fuel imports by around 50 per cent and effectively stopping the importation of fertilizer.
The USD9billion project will be financed by USD3billion equity and USD6billiion loan capital. Today’s signing ceremony commits the first tranche of loans secured by Dangote, comprising a USD3.3billion term loan facility supported by a consortium of 12 local and international banks. This first facility was jointly co-ordinated by Standard Chartered Bank as the Global Coordinator, and Nigeria’s Guaranty Trust Bank PLC as the Local Coordinator.
With the refining capacity expected to reach 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day and producing a variety of refined fuel products from local crude resources, Nigeria will cut its current volumes of imported fuel products by a massive 50 per cent. The 2.8 million tonnes of urea will be channelled into growing the local agriculture sector which is essential in producing healthy crops and promoting Nigeria and West Africa’s agricultural development. The Petrochemical plant will produce Polypropylene which is a common component of most plastic and fabric products, for example it is used in various forms of packaging, ropes and agro-sacks.
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote said: “This plant will further entrench Africa’s role on the global map as not only a valued contributor for natural resources, but also a competent manufacturer of refined products and fertilizer. As a result, several African nations will be less reliant on importing fuel and fertilizer from foreign markets, reducing the negative impact of negotiating terms within increasingly turbulent international markets.”
In the same vein, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in Nigeria, Ms Bola Adesola, added: “Standard Chartered is proud to support the Dangote Group in a project which will significantly boost Nigeria’s economic productivity and create valuable jobs with specialist skills from key growth sectors. This project is an historic example of self-empowerment and leadership for the continent as a whole – and is made possible through effective partnerships between the Nigerian private sector, Government and international financial institutions. Standard Chartered remains committed to being here for good in Nigeria, and the region.” Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank PLC, Segun Agbaje said: “this is the largest syndication by Banks in Nigeria and it is being undertaken with the knowledge that the successful implementation of Dangote Refinery and Fertilizer project will have far reaching implications for Nigeria’s economic growth”
Segun Agbaje further stated that GTBank is very proud to be associated with Dangote Industries on this landmark project and praised its Chairman; Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his steadfastness, hard work and genuine desire to see remarkable economic improvement within the country
The Dangote Group’s main revenue and profit contributor is Dangote Cement Plc (DCP), the leading integrated cement producer in Sub Saharan Africa and largest company on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Given the cement subsidiary’s strong market share along with its higher profit margins, DCP has been able to maintain a robust financial position, and thus assist in leveraging the Group on a conservative basis to undertake expansion projects on this large scale.
Other participating banks are Access Bank PLC, Zenith Bank PLC, Ecobank Nigeria Limited, Fidelity Bank PLC. First Bank Nigeria Limited, Standard Bank of South Africa Limited, UBA PLC, FirstRand Bank, First City Monument Bank PLC and Diamond Bank PLC.
