**Families of Bayelsa State 2015 Election Violence Victims wants Sylva, others prosecuted**

Families who lost loved ones during the 2015 governorship election violence in Bayelsa State are coming together to demand justice and accountability for the brutal killings of their relatives. This demand for justice comes in the aftermath of a similar demand, initiated by a Coalition of Pro-democracy organization that shed light on the atrocities committed during the election. The Coalition had earlier demanded, that the Bayelsa State and the Federal government immediate prosecute, person indicted to have been involved or found to have supported the violence, characterised the aftermath of the 2015 Governorship election in the State, including the then, candidate of the opposition party, Chief Timipre Sylva.

The 2015 governorship election in Bayelsa State was marred by widespread violence, with lives lost due to political thuggery and lawlessness. Among those, who lost thir lives, were Roland Yinkore, Simeon Otor and Isaac Godgift, whose family, are now demanding justice.

Speaking to journalists in Yenagoa on Tuesday, a relative of one of the victims, who want to remain anonymous, expressed the frustration of the concerned families, saying “For years, the families of the victims have endured the pain of losing their loved ones without seeing any perpetrators brought to justice.”

A pro-democracy organization recently conducted a thorough review into the election violence and released a report that identified key perpetrators, some of whom were prominent politicians and their key supporters. The report not only revealed the extent of the violence but also indicated that there were individuals who bear direct responsibility for these heinous crimes.

In the wake of this revelation, the families of the victims are now joining forces to demand justice for their loved ones.

The families demand that the identified perpetrators of the violence, regardless of their political affiliations, be swiftly brought to justice. They believe that holding these individuals accountable is essential for the healing of their communities and the prevention of future electoral violence

The families are also seeking support and compensation for the loss of their loved ones. Many of them have struggled to rebuild their lives after the tragic events of 2015, and they believe that the government should provide assistance to help them recover.

They are also calling for a transparent and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the election violence. They want to know the truth about what happened to their relatives and why it happened.

In addition to seeking justice for their loved ones, the families support efforts to reform the electoral process in Bayelsa State to prevent a recurrence of such violence in future elections.

The families are determined to ensure that the memory of their loved ones is not forgotten and that their deaths are not in vain. They are united in their demand for justice and are appealing to the government of Bayelsa State, the Federal government, enforcement agencies, and the international community to support their cause.

This demand for justice represents a crucial step toward healing the wounds of the past and ensuring that the principles of democracy, rule of law, and accountability prevail in Bayelsa State.

Politics / Coalition Commends CDS Musa Over Maiden JTF Commanders' Conference by aguele(m): 6:57am On Sep 20, 2023
The Coalition Against Separatism, Banditry, and Terrorism (CASBAT) has described the recently concluded Joint Task Force Commanders Conference as potentially the turning point in the fight against terrorists, bandits, and other criminals.

CASBAT's Country Representative, Dr. Abidemi Moses, commended the Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa for the innovation, describing it as the much-needed catalyst to drive the military to success.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dr Moses said Gen Musa has continued to introduce remarkable reforms and strategies to further enhance the operations of the military.

He noted that the CDS' emphasis has been on synergy, intelligence sharing, and cooperation to effectively address complex security challenges.

Dr Moses added that the theme of the conference 'Rejigging Defence Headquarters-Led Operations' attests to General Musa's knack for capacity building and training as another tool for maintaining operational readiness.

"The maiden JTF commanders' conference was indeed a massive success. Gen Musa made it clear from the onset that the military must collaborate to address insecurity," Moses said.

"By bringing JTF commanders together, the CDS has effectively broken the barriers and enhanced synergy and collaboration. This is commendable.

"During the conference, he laid emphasis on change of timely and accurate information is the lifeblood of successful operations. The CDS also harped on improved strategies, tactics, and capabilities to effectively counter emerging threats.

"He urged commanders to embrace new technologies, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting a learning mindset to maintain an operational edge against the adversaries.

"The CDS also urged them to encourage and empower personnel under them to think creatively to challenge conventional wisdom and to embrace change as they strive for continuous improvement. This is the right way to go.

"We are pleased that the military chief promised to address issues like the inadequate manpower, lack of support weapons, gun trucks, and drones, as well as the inadequate tracking equipment and the teams to operate them."

The CASBAT, therefore, urged the CDS to introduce more top-notch ideas and strategies to rid the nation of remnants of criminal elements.

Dr Moses charged Nigerians to always rally around the troops, noting that they play a huge part in the synergy and intelligence gathering.

In the realm of Nigerian politics, where promises often fade away like morning mist, and the rule of law can sometimes feel like a distant dream, but in the same society, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has emerged as a shining example of principled leadership. Since assuming office, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the rule of law, ensuring the responsible discharge of state responsibilities, and delivering on his electoral promises to the citizens of Ogun State.

Governor Abiodun's commitment to the rule of law is evident in his actions and decisions. He has consistently upheld the principles of democracy and the Nigerian constitution, respecting the law of the land, and governing the state, with utmost decency and fairness to all. His administration has worked tirelessly to ensure that the rights and freedoms of the people of Ogun State are protected and upheld, regardless of their political affiliations. This has to be said, especially by those of us, who experienced what governance was, and what it meant, to criticize a sitting governor in Ogun State, sometimes between the year 2003 and 2007.

One of the most significant demonstrations of Governor Abiodun's dedication to the rule of law was his handling of the 2019 gubernatorial election petition in Ogun State. Despite the fierce contest and legal challenges that followed his victory, Abiodun remained steadfast in his commitment to due process and the rule of law. He allowed the judicial process to run its course, respecting the decisions of the courts and upholding the sanctity of the electoral system. This not only reinforced the citizens' faith in the rule of law but also showcased his respect for democratic institutions.

Governor Abiodun's responsible discharge of state responsibilities is another area where his leadership shines. He has prioritized the welfare and well-being of the people of Ogun State, focusing on key sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Under his administration, significant investments have been made in improving the state's road network, ensuring that citizens can travel safely and efficiently. His commitment to education is reflected in the comprehensive overhaul of the state's educational system, making quality education accessible to all.

Furthermore, Governor Abiodun has taken significant steps to improve the healthcare sector in Ogun State. He has invested in modern healthcare facilities and equipment, ensuring that citizens have access to quality healthcare services.

Governor Abiodun's dedication to delivering on his electoral promises is perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects of his leadership. He ran on a promise of economic development, job creation, and improved living conditions for the people of Ogun State. True to his word, his administration has launched various initiatives aimed at empowering the youth, creating job opportunities, and fostering economic growth.

In conclusion, Governor Dapo Abiodun has demonstrated that principled leadership, rooted in the rule of law, is not only possible but also essential in Nigerian politics. His commitment to upholding the rule of law, responsible discharge of state responsibilities, and the delivery of electoral promises has set a new standard for governance in Ogun State. As the state continues to make progress under his leadership, it is evident that Governor Abiodun's dedication to the rule of law and the welfare of his constituents will leave a lasting legacy of good governance and progress in Ogun State,

For Ogun State, it is a brighter future ahead.

Politics / Reps Ongoing Investigation Closes In On Culprits As Nnpc Limited, Firs, Niwa An by aguele(m): 7:34pm On Sep 17, 2023
REPS ONGOING INVESTIGATION CLOSES IN ON CULPRITS AS NNPC LIMITED, FIRS, NIWA AND OTHERS EVADE APPEARANCE.

The Adhoc Committee of the House of Representatives Investigating Crude Oil Theft and Loss of Revenue from Oil and Gas Companies Chaired by Rt. Hon Kabiru Alhassan Usman Rurum have continued to unearth stunning revelations of massive oil theft suggesting grave collusion of regulatory agencies and their collaborators in the oil and gas sector
It is alleged that most of the Marginal Field Operators are aiding oil theft in order to compliment shortfalls in their production. The Committee is seriously beaming its search light on these operators. From the submission of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) some of the Marginal Field Operators in the Country Includes, Niger Delta Petroleum Resources Limited, Prime Exploration & Production (Operator), Suffolk Petroleum Limited, Oriental Energy Resources Limited, Universal Energy Limited, Prim, e Exploration & Production (Operator), Pillar Oil Limited, Platform Petroleum Limited, Chorus Energy Limited, Millenium Oil and Gas Limited, Brittania U-Nigeria Limited, Network E&P Limited, Waltersmith Petroman Limited (Operator), Morris Petroleum Limited, Midwestern Oil and Gas Limited, Suntrust Oil Company Limited, Frontier Oil Limited, Energia Limited (Operator), Oando Production and Development Limited, Excel Exploration & Producton Limited, Green Energy International Limited,
The Committee have held extensive interrogation and interaction with security agencies and will be engaging intensely the operators of the Marginal Fields, 14 Production Sharing Contract operators and 57 Joint Venture operators in the days ahead.
Some complicit industry operators have boasted that nothing will come out from this House investigation like the previous ones before it. In fact, an official of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) of the LCCI bragged that if at all the committee manages to submit a report to the House, it will just add to the piled up reports in the shelves like the others.
Findings however, revealed that Rt Hon. Rurum`s led committee may shock the nation with its findings and recommendations. Hon Rurum in his address during the first day of the Committees Public Hearing on Thursday, 7th September 2023 informed Nigerians, that the committee is committed to do a thorough job whose report if implemented will put to an end the fiasco of Oil theft in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Adhoc Committee`s investigation have thus far uncovered a seeming massive corruption and collusion of regulatory agencies at the export loading terminals. The Chief culprit of this appears to be the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited. Investigations have shown that many arrested ocean vessels involved in massive underhand dealings had the tacit approval of NNPC Limited.
To worsen the situation, NNPCL is alleged to have eased out regulatory agencies whose statutory responsibilities at the terminals would have checkmated massive underreporting of actual volume of Nigerians crude oil being exported. Most of these thefts occur offshore and most of Nigeria’s export loading platforms are offshore.
The Committee is also investigating the allegation that many senior serving and retired officers of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (Formerly DPR) may also be complicit as it is alleged that some of them may have vested interests in the Marginal Fields and the abandoned oil wells which litter the entire Niger Delta. From the reports received so far, most of the abandoned and non-decommissioned oil wells and pipelines have escalated incidences of oil theft.
Circumstances surrounding the release of arrested and complicit vessels by prosecuting agencies are also being looked into by the Committee.
The good thing however, is that the Committee as its Chairman stated in his remarks at the continued investigative hearing on Friday, 8th September will not jump into conclusion on any allegation. He assured that the legislative procedure of the hearing meetings presents an opportunity to everyone to make his/her submission to the committee
Will the Rt. Hon Tajudden Abbas led 10th House be the game changer the country is yearning for to end this debacle, time will tell.
The Hearing of the Committee continues on Tuesday, and NNPC Limited, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Limited, NIMASA, NIWA, NMDRA, FEDERAL MINISTERS IN CHARHE OF FINANCE, GAS, PETROLEUM RESOURCES, INDUSTRY, TRADE AND INVESTMENT, EFCC, CUSTOMS, FIRS etc are expected to be in attendance.

Politics / Csos Commend Nff For Putting Nigeria On The World Map by aguele(m): 4:45pm On Sep 14, 2023
The Civil Society Network for Good Governance a conglomeration of over 87 CSOs in Nigeria has commended the Nigeria Football Federation NFF), under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau as president and Dr. Sanusi Mohammed ad General Secretary, for the successes recorded by the national teams in recent times. Speaking at a Press Conference in Abuja on the state of Nigerian football following the conclusion of Nations Cup Qualifiers, the National President of the Network, Barr Adefila Kamal commended the NFF leadership for “restoring excitement and pride of fans who support the national teams”.

The group also commended the Leadership of NFF for “steadying the ship of Nigerian football and saving it from shipwreck at a time of uncertainties when the hawks and vultures were gathering to feast on the carcass of the game in Nigeria”. Barr Adefila noted that football has often suffered from home brewed sabotage where disgruntled elements that have overstayed their usefulness in the football family begin to cast aspersions on those giving of their time, energy and ideas in a less than ideal system”.

The Network also noted that “these elements have cost Nigerian football a lot in terms of confidence of potential partners and sponsors, all for personal ambitions devoid of valuable ideas to grow the game in Nigeria for the good of Nigerians”. Barr Adefila urged Nigerians to always put national interest above personal ambition, arguing that “many of our unemployment issues can be solved by a thriving Nigerian football industry, which can only come about if we all sail in the same direction rather than destroying the integrity of football administration in the country”.

The group commended President Tinubu for appointing a Sports Minister who “understands the enormity of the task of sports development and has set the right tone with his early statements on assumption of office”. Barr Adefila enjoined the Honourable minister of sports to provide maximum support to the NFF to prosecute their responsibilities in national interest while providing the backing of government for more sponsors to key into the business opportunities that the game holds in what he described as “Africa’s biggest potential football market”. The Civil Society Network assured Nigerians that they will continue to hold all accountable to ensure the growth of football and sports in general in Nigeria.

*Tinubu Lauded Over Improved Synergy Between Defence and Intelligence Communities*

_...NSA, CDS, IGP, Others Hailed For Collaboration_

The Centre for Policy and Strategic Engagement (CPSE) has hailed President Bola Tinubu for the improved synergy between the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

The Centre noted that the President's appointment of the current security chiefs and subsequent directives to them has changed the dynamics in the war against bandits, insurgents, and other criminal elements.

In its quarterly appraisal of the Nigerian security architecture, the Centre also hailed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and Chief of Defence Staff Gen Christopher Gwabin Musa for the new level of collaboration.

The 19-page document acknowledged the improved synergy between the Armed Forces and the intelligence communities.

It noted that President Tinubu's first point of call to the security chiefs was for them to work as a team to deliver on their assigned responsibilities.

The report further said that unlike in times past, the nation's security heads are united to accomplish a common objective of securing the country and establishing peace and stability.

"The appointment of Security Chiefs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has indicated a willingness to address the challenges in the country," it said.

"It is envisioned that the new drive is bound to produce tangibles that would address the security concerns in the country.

"In the few months of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have been re-positioned to operational effectiveness.

"The command and control structure has been rejigged and under the active supervision of the Defence Headquarters.

"In his few weeks in office, the security architecture of the country is beginning to take shape. This is the outcome of the strategic meetings he has had with the security chiefs and the directives he gave to them to ensure coordination in their operations and also come up with a blueprint that will boost the security of the country.

"This is beginning to yield results as the country has been witnessing relative peace and stability. The different roles of the state actors in the country were clarified.

"This will give the President the leverage of putting these state actors to work effectively and to also keep devising strategies in handling the challenges posed by non-state actors.

"There is enhanced synergy between the Armed Forces and intelligence communities - a key element that was missing all these years.

"The NSA, IGP, CDS, and other security heads have worked as a team and shown the desire to collectively address the common enemy - which is insecurity. "

The Centre for Policy and Strategic Engagement, however, urged the security heads to continue in this light until the remnants of criminals are eliminated.
Politics / Arewa Group Passes Vote Of Confidence On Speaker Tajudeen Abass by aguele(m): 9:19pm On Sep 12, 2023
_...warns overzealous southeast politicians over plot to destabilise Reps_

The Arewa Development and Democratic Agenda (ADDA) has passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives led by Rt Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

The group also warned the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha and her cohorts to stop meddling in the affairs of the House and pay attention to their jobs.

The Arewa group made this known at a press conference on Tuesday in Kaduna to address the loss of focus of Onyejeocha.

Comrade Yusuf Maigari, who spoke on behalf of the group, accused Onyejeocha of plotting to unseat the Speaker.

According to Maigari, Governor Hope Uzodinma is behind this plot and has already splashed billions to achieve his plan to become Vice President.

"We find it shocking that the Minister never thought of hatching this plot until the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia, Abia State, declared her winner of the February 25 election for the Isuikwato-Imunneochi Federal Constituency," he said.

"It is shocking because she has not given a thought to how her machinations would unsettle the harmonious manner in which the leadership of the country was equitably zoned to give fairness to all stakeholders.

"Nkeiruka Onyejeocha’s desire, which reeks of an entitlement mentality, has taken the negativity of selfishness too far and we are now at a stage where we can no longer remain indifferent given the speed with which the plot by the South-East has unfolded in recent days.

"We are watching but let the southeast remember that we contributed more to the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at a time when they were busy pursuing a separatist agenda and sustaining their diliance with the Labour Party while heating the polity up. Let our southeast stakeholders remember that we, the Arewa, have the largest bloc in the parliament and any attempt to disgrace our son will be met with a corresponding response.

"We have also heard that Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state is behind this plot and propping up the Minister to return to the House of Representatives because of his aspiration to be president or vice president. This latest onslaught against Arewa’s interest in the legislature is part of Governor Uzodinma's positioning of his cronies to hijack strategic national offices to prepare the ground for his supposed 2027 presidential bid.

"We find it saddening that Governor Hope Uzodinma, in cahoot with Nkeiruka Onyejeocha - a Minister in the Federal Executive Council, are today undermining the stability brought about by President Tinubu even after working against Asiwaju and only becoming latter-day converts of the struggle.

"We are also aware that the same Governor Hope Uzodinma has a fallback plan of using a former Member of the House, who also ran for Speakership like Nkiruka in the 9th Assembly to short-change the North. The North, Arewa, will reject Governor Hope Uzodinma and Onyejiocha.

"We are watching how the Imo Governor threatened to use the Court of Appeal sitting at Owerri as his private business to allocate victory to Onyejiocha, whose win at the tribunal is already being challenged. We shall monitor all justices of the Court of Appeal in Owerri, who will leave their job to answer to Hope Uzodinma and Onyejiocha. "

The group, therefore, urged President Tinubu to remov Onyejiocha as the Minister of State for Labour and Employment.

Maigari added: "Her exit from the Federal Executive Council will enable her to come out clearly and fight to wrest the Speakership of the House of Representatives from the North as we would like to see her and the southeast geopolitical zone achieve this disastrous plot without soiling the political reputation of President Tinubu, who the Arewa hold in high esteem."

Stop Being Ungrateful to Tinubu, Women Tell Minister Onyejeocha Over Plot to Return to Reps

The Coalition of Asiwaju Progressives Women (CAPW) has warned the Minister of State, Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, to stop undermining the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Describing Onyejeocha as an ingrate, the women said Onyejeocha was not worthy to be on the President's cabinet.

The Coalition made this known in a statement signed by its leader, Dr. Abidemi Johnson.

Johnson said instead of focusing on her job as minister, Onyejeocha has embarked on a campaign to destabilize the House of Representatives.

According to her, Onyejeocha is pursuing her selfish interest, causing division in the Green Chamber over her quest to become Speaker.

Following her victory at the tribunal for representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Dr Johnson noted that the minister's next agenda is to push try to topple Rt Hon. Tajudeen Abbas under the guise of alleged marginalization of the southeast and women.

She further said that Onyejeocha has already spent billions to achieve her purpose, by sponsoring several groups and other disgruntled elements.

"As patriotic women with absolute allegiance and loyalty to President Tinubu, we can not just sit back and watch our fellow woman jeopardize the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration," Dr. Johnson said.

"We advocated for more females in this cabinet and the President yielded to that request. But one of the beneficiaries has become an enemy of the government.

"We are talking about the Minister of State, Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha. Regrettably, Onyejeocha is on a mission to disrupt this government. She is an ingrate.

" It is unthinkable that after being inaugurated as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, she has embarked on a jamboree to waste taxpayers' money to pursue her selfish ambition to destabilize the leadership of the National Assembly.

"Just a few days back, she doled out dollars in large sums to over 20 civil society groups to move against the very administration which she is serving on a purported mission of President Asiwaju not involving women in the leadership of the National Assembly.

"Her new desire now is to become the Speaker of the House of Reps under the guise that the South East and women must be given the Speakership of the House."

The group, therefore, cautioned Onyejeocha to quit her sinister agenda and focus on her job.

Johnson said should the minister continue her dark arts, it would be left with no option but to protest at Aso Villa.

Politics / Tribunal: Rep Bichi Congratulates Tinubu, Nigerians On Historic Victory by aguele(m): 1:30pm On Sep 08, 2023
_...says judiciary has proven to be the hope of the masses_

Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

In a statement on Friday, he said the judgment is a triumph for Nigerians who showed massive support for the All Progressives Congress at the last general elections.

Justice Haruna Tsammani, who led the five-person panel, said: “This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.”⁣

Thereafter, the four other Justices unanimously took turns to dismiss the petitions presented by the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, challenging Tinubu’s emergence as President, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on March 1, 2023. ⁣

In reaction, Hon. Bichi who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, said the judiciary has again proven to be the hope of the common man.

He said the five-member panel tenaciously evaluated all the issues raised by the petitioners and delivered a clear verdict on the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

Bichi, however, urged the members of the opposition parties to join hands with President Tinubu to build a better and prosperous nation.

He reiterated the commitment of the parliament to come up with legislation to support the various initiatives of the executive in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

“I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima over their victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Court,” he said.

“The affirmation of their election in February this year restores the confidence of Nigerians in the nation’s Judiciary and our electoral processes.

“I also commend the panel for its resolute and firm posture in ensuring that its judgment was guided by the facts available before the court against unsubstantiated claims.

“The PEPC judgment sends a clear message to politicians that the judiciary understands its limit and refuses to be an arbiter on matters within the jurisdiction of political parties.

“I urge the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party and the Labour Party, to join forces with the Tinubu-led administration in delivering good governance to Nigerians.

“On our part, we will come up with necessary legislation to support the executive to address the challenges facing our nation. This will be pursued vigorously for the benefit of all."

_...calls on all Nigerians to support Tinubu to renew Nigeria's hope_

Hon. Babajimi Benson, the member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Hon. Benson who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, said the court verdict has further legitimized President Tinubu's win at the last presidential poll.

A five-member panel of the tribunal on Wednesday affirmed the victory of Tinubu in the February 25 election.

Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) respectively, had filed petitions against Tinubu’s victory.

In a statement signed by his Media Office, Hon. Benson said the verdict was a victory for democracy and Nigerians who overwhelmingly voted for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said that this has reinforced the popular mandate of the joint ticket of Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

The lawyer noted that the country’s electoral process is making steady progress and deserves the appreciation and support of all citizens.

On his part, Hon. Benson pledged to continue to use the instrumentality of the legislature to make a positive impact on the nation as he has done in the past.

As House Committee Chairman on Defence, he assured that he would introduce more bills and motions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of security agents in the fight against insecurity.

“I applaud the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal for upholding the victory of our President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our Vice President, His Excellency, Kashim Shettima, at the 2023 presidential polls,” Benson said.

“I also congratulate our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on its vindication by this well-thought-out landmark judgment. It shows that indeed progress has been made.

"Our judiciary again rose to the occasion despite the intimidation. Also, we can see that our country’s electoral process is making steady progress and deserves the appreciation and support of all citizens.

"President Tinubu's victory was never in doubt. He was the overwhelming choice of Nigerians and what the judiciary has done is to set a seal on it. My constituents are happy that this era of renewed hope will continue.

"Therefore, I wish to call on all Nigerians to support this administration. Romans 13:1 says: 'Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.'"

The group, which is a network of young, non-partisan intellectuals and mentees of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the verdict has justified the trust of Nigerians in the current administration.

Reading the judgment, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who led the five-person panel said “This petition accordingly lacks merit.

In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Ismail Adamu, the BYIN hailed the judiciary for prevailing over intimidation and all manner of prejudice to deliver justice according to law.

By the ruling, Adamu added that the wishes of a vast majority of Nigerians have been respected, which he says is the hallmark of true democracy.

Describing Tinubu as a revered gentleman and serial achiever, he noted that the President was never at any point distracted by the Tribunal or the bandwagon of social media activists.

As one of the fathers of our modern democracy, the group said it holds the President in high esteem, especially knowing his remarkable role in Rt Hon. Kalu's political journey.

Adamu said they see a young version of the President in Kalu - one who is passionate, focused, and patriotic at all times.

Like President Tinubu, he added that the Deputy Speaker believes in politics without bitterness, and this message he has continued to preach to Ndigbo and all Nigerians for peace and unity in the country.

"The BenKalu Young Intellectual Network (BYIN) wishes to join millions of Nigerians around the world to celebrate the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal ruling which affirmed Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as President. This judgment was inevitable owing to the voting pattern during the last election," Adamu said.

"We are a network of young, non-partisan intellectuals and mentees of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Our members are drawn from all the political parties in the country as well as every religion with a common passion, duty-bound to proclaim Ben Kalu's political philosophy.

"We have decided to show solidarity with Mr President because he is the mentor of our mentor, like our political grandfather. We are pleased that his outstanding blueprint for the nation wasn't thwarted.

"Over the years, President Tinubu has proven to be a serial achiever who believes in the youth. He has built friendships, bridges, and networks which have come to good effect these days.

"He believes in politics without bitterness and unity of Nigerians. He has continued to preach this message even as President. Rt Hon. Kalu embodies these virtues and more.

"The leadership style projected by the President, especially his interest in scouting talents and raising young men are exemplified in the Deputy Speaker. This has restored the hope of the young professionals and leaders in our country.

"Rt Hon. Kalu remains the Ambassador of our demography of young national leaders and so far he has made us proud across Nigeria.

"As his disciples, we have followed his meteoric rise and found it t be a product of hard work, dedication, and loyalty. The DSP, like the President, is a peace lover and has continued to emphasize the unity of Ndi'Igbo and Nigeria.

"He was dragged and betrayed by those he called brothers. While he was persecuted, Kalu still sought peace. Twice he was taken to court and on both occasions, he emerged victoriously.

"On this note, we wish to urge Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other aggrieved parties in the Feb 25th Election to let go and join hands with the winner to move the country forward."

Politics / Strike: 100 Civil Society Groups Meet In Abuja Over Fuel Subsidy by aguele(m): 12:10pm On Sep 04, 2023
...want organised labour to call off industrial action

No fewer than 100 civil society groups have called on the Nigeria Labour Congress to call off its proposed strike scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The groups, under the auspices of Project Nigeria, said it came to this conclusion after several meetings with relevant stakeholders and government officials.

In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Kolawole Akinmosu, the CSOs said it is in the best interest of the nation for the labour to halt plans of industrial action.

While admitting that the grievances of the union are justified, Akinmosu noted that President Bola Tinubu has taken drastic steps to cushion the hardship in the nation.

He said the President is not relenting in his efforts to provide palliatives to Nigeria, keeping up with his mandate of renewed hope.

Akinmosu also said the appointment of Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong as Minister of Labour and Employment shows the President's love for Nigerian workers.

Describing Lalong as a friend of the organised labour, he added that the former Plateau State Governor understands the plight of the common man and will go to any length to meet their demands.

Akinmosu, therefore, urged the NLC to rethink and instead embrace dialogue for the sake of the economy and the country's survival.

"The Project Nigeria is a coalition of 100 pro-Nigerian civil society groups. We are non-partisan without religious or ethnic bias. Our interest is the nation," Akinmosu said.

"After a 12-hour intensive meeting on Saturday, we resolved that it is best for the NLC to suspend its planned strike action for the greater good of the nation. Our position is based on three points.

"First, we believe that dialogue is the best way out of any situation. Industrial actions are rarely deployed around the world these days. The rippling effect on the economy is massive.

"We all know the current situation in the country. Shutting down the economy completely for two days for any reason whatsoever is not ideal.

"Meanwhile President Tinubu has already made efforts to address the hardship in the country. More interventions are underway. We believe it is best for the NLC to give this administration a chance.

"Finally, may we also recognize that the appointment of Rt Hon. Lalong could be a major factor in the long run. The minister understands the yearnings and demands of the masses.

"Lalong is a man of the people. He is quickly settling into his new office. We reckon that he will give top attention to the NLC as soon as possible" .

Politics / Bende Peace Moves: Too Little, Too Late by aguele(m): 3:00pm On Sep 02, 2023
By: Prof. Victor Ukaogo

I read with great consternation about a badly crafted and hurriedly arranged press conference footnoted by face saving pronouncements by Chief Frank Chinasa, LPs House of Representatives candidate in Bende federal constituency in the last general elections. In the press conference, chief Frank also known as Dogo laboured almost in vain to convey his belated and stunted realization of the ties of brotherhood that ought to hold Bende together. He wasted and lavished kind words of brotherhood and sincerity on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu who he had wished to feed a national disgrace as breakfast, launch and dinner.

It's possible to deceive many people but it is impossible to deceive everyone especially on matters as clear as the election tribunal sitting on Bende HoR elections. We were not unaware of the peace moves to mend fences between Hon Ben Kalu and chief Frank and we supported this. Many people reached out to both of them to find a common ground and allow peace to reign. Close aides and friends of the Deputy Speaker were all in support and he obliged us to accept every such move. Without doubt, he was disappointed when Dogo smartly reneged and pulled a fast one appearing in court the same day the peace meeting was scheduled to hold and proceeded to testify against the Deputy Speaker who was waiting for him to arrive.

The sensibilities of the tribunal was abused by Chief Dogo as the matter he brought to court had already been treated by the Appeal court before now. Dogo wasted the time of the tribunal. The question put to the Dogo and his lawyer by the judges is very instructive; if they were in the know that the totality of their grievances had been decided long ago by a higher court of competent jurisdiction. They feigned ignorance.

It is morally wrong that after failing to embarrass the Deputy Speaker publicly, Dogo is struggling to make public peace with the one he is threatening to disgrace and embarrass. Is it not rather shameful and a mark of character deficit for Dogo to openly canvass the same argument of brotherhood with which we all failed to convince him to thread with caution? Would it not have been more honorable to have hearkened to the pleading voices of esteemed Bende monarchs including the very fatherly and revered Ozuo of Uzuakoli who he insulted on this same matter; refusing to have audience with him than coming surreptitiously to address the press Nicodemusly with the intent to hoodwink all of us?

The Deputy Speaker is a kind fighter but he is careful picking who to fight. Dogo is a Bende son and was unwilling all through to fight him for whatever reasons. Bende people will remember that the trio of His Excellency, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, Hon. Ben Kalu and my humble self became perennial election losers in Bende at different levels being members of the same political family. In all these of electoral losses, Ben Kalu refused deliberately to take Hon. Nnenna Ukeje to court. In a manner of saying that he was unwilling to take his sister to court no matter how good his case looked in the eyes of the law.

After Dogo reneged on the peace moves he initiated himself, and as our team flew to Owerri enroute Umuahia a day after Dogo's appearance and testimony to keep a date with the same tribunal, I watched the pain on the Deputy Speaker's face ostensibly on account of the reality that he will be in court against a Bende son that he had previously vowed not to do. Gazing out of the window, he probably was wishing that this should not happen. We all knew Dogo had no case but we also know that the Deputy Speaker owns a large and accommodating heart to forgive. Dogo is Ben's brother. It's well.

But if truth be told, Dogo should come clean and apologize to Bende monarchs including the very revered Ozuo of Uzuakoli ancient kingdom who he disrespected without remorse. He should also apologize to Ben his brother for dragging him this far. This is better than playing smart as he did with the press conference. He should also encourage his sponsors to allow him space to relate with his brother. And to his supporters, he should encourage them to be less spiteful as they were supporting him in ignorance and from a distance. This remains a path of honor for a supposedly honorable man like him.

Politics / Bende Seat: Group Commends Kalu's Maturity, Peace Effort by aguele(m): 2:24pm On Sep 02, 2023
_...says a new era of peace underway in Igboland_

The Igbo Renaissance Agenda (IRA) has hailed the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for embracing his opponents before and after the Bende Federal Constituency election.

In a statement signed by its President, Mazi Ifeanyi Igwe, the group said it was aware of the efforts of Rt Hon. Kalu at extending an olive branch to his fellow candidates despite his overwhelming victory.

Igwe said, perhaps for this reason, the candidate of the Action Alliance Ifeanyi Igbokwe distanced himself from a petition challenging the outcome of the February 25th polls.

Mazi Igwe, however, regretted that the flagbearer of the Labour Party Frank Chinasa insisted on dragging the case to the National Assembly Elections Tribunal against the calls by traditional rulers, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders.

After a botched attempt to overturn Kalu's victory and facing another imminent defeat at the Appeal Court, Igwe said Chinasa finally stepped down his case.

While welcoming the development, the Igbo Renaissance Agenda said it was disappointed with Chinana's greed and desperation for power.

Describing the Deputy Speaker as a man of peace, Igwe said Rt Hon. Kalu is championing a revolution among Igbo elites.

Igwe noted that the DSP has already shown to possess the requisite qualities to lead the next generation of leaders in the southeast.

"The Igbo Renaissance Agenda has followed the Bende Federal Constituency election with keen interest and we have been stunned by the manner that the candidates have carried themselves," the statement said.

"We understand that it is the right of every citizen to seek redress in court, however, not against the wishes of the people. The Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps took it upon himself to reach out to all candidates from the election despite his overwhelming victory.

"He made it clear that his emergence as the Deputy Speaker was for the greater good of Ndi'Igbo. But his opponent from the Labour Party candidate, for obvious reasons, had other plans.

"We learned that he was approached by traditional rulers, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to embrace dialogue and reconciliation. He didn't. After losing at the tribunal and knowing well another defeat beckons at the Appeal Court, he belatedly wished his brother well.

"For the records, this is the kind of negative attitude that has held the Igbo nation back. Brother against brother. Like our popular adage says: 'When brothers fight to the death, a stranger inherits their father's mansion.'

"There are lessons to be learned. First, we are one. Politics should be a unifier and not the otherwise. The Deputy Speaker has once again shown that he is a man with a big heart. He opened his doors to his perceived rivals.

" Hon Kalu has always preached peace and unity. He embodies these virtues. That he even accepted to sit with a man who dragged him to court is pure class.

"On this note, we wish to thank the Deputy Speaker for his show of maturity. He is a man who is obviously on a mission to change the narratives in Igboland. We want to urge other elites to learn from him."
Politics / CDS Musa's God-fearing Counter-insurgency Disposition by aguele(m): 4:12pm On Sep 01, 2023
By Matthew Iwodi

“I may not have been the best combat commander, but I always strove to be. My men depended on me to carefully analyze every tactical situation, maximize the resources I had at my disposal, think under pressure, and lead them by personal example.”— Major Dick Winters.

The above quote reminds me of the exploits of General Christopher Musa while he was the theatre commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Nigeria's counter-insurgency operations in North East Nigeria.

It was a magical moment in the war against insurgency. He was at the epicenter leading operations that brought about tangibles that have been documented as one of the best in the annals of our counter-insurgency operations in North East Nigeria.

I recall that on some visits to the Northeast for research purposes, I had cause to interact with the military hierarchy under his command, and what I gathered was mind-boggling. I was confronted by a dexterous commander in planning and strategy—a thinking man with few words. The troops were energetic and always on top of the situation.

I was curious and asked questions about the mood in the theatre of operations. All fingers pointed to the operational style of the theatre commander, who succeeded in matching his words with action and leading by example. Some said he remains the best thing that happened in our efforts at addressing the Boko Haram menace in North East Nigeria.

I was regaled with exploits, not in the public space, on how he entrenched a regime of discipline, loyalty, and passion to confront the challenges the Boko Haram group posed. At that point, he was the commander that every command needed and was on top of his game.

General Christopher Musa may be a man of few words; you could also mistake him for a shy person, but beyond his calm looks, he is a warrior who does not have failure in his genes. He led troops in prayers before and after every operation. He communicates seamlessly with officers and soldiers. He was abreast of happenings on a minute basis. He ensured the availability of logistics and resources throughout his tenure until he was redeployed as the corps commander of infantry of the Nigerian Army.

General Musa is a lesson in military strategy. I wasn't surprised when he was eventually appointed Chief of Defence Staff. Those conversant with his professionalism and sound records saw it coming and prayed fervently for it to happen. And our joy knew no bounds when he was announced as the Chief of Defence Staff.

This mood was also felt in Nigeria's Military, with officers and soldiers bursting into ecstasy in celebration of the coming of the people's general to lead the Armed Forces. His appointment was one of the best decisions of the present administration.

The events in the past weeks and months in the efforts to address the security situation in the country are indeed a testament to the parlance where preparation meets opportunity, and success becomes inevitable. There is a renewed vigor from the Armed Forces. Nigerians should expect the best in no distant time.

There is also a realignment with the new order; strategic postings are ongoing, and operational manuals are constantly reviewed because the Chief of Defence Staff is an infantry general with hands-on experience due to the several command positions he has held during his illustrious career.

Nigerians, therefore, need to extend their support to the Armed Forces in this new drive to address and surmount the security challenges in the country. I have argued in several forums that sometimes, what a society needs to overcome its challenges is the disposition of its leaders.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to addressing the security challenges in the country in the quality of appointments in the critical security sector. And the results would trickle in no distant time. I am excited, and I know that those against the interest of Nigeria are in for a tough time.

The Chief of Defence Staff is respected and celebrated because of his leadership style. I recently stumbled upon a quote attributed to him that states thus: "It is important for soldiers to feel cared for. It is important always to motivate soldiers to fight for the nation,"

The above statement implies that the welfare of officers and soldiers must take the front burner. A soldier can't fight for the country when his home front is not settled. He has pledged to keep soldiers' morale high and ready to undertake tasks that would achieve the desired results.

I am glad there is hope for the country because a new sheriff is in town. The era of procrastination in the Armed Forces is gone, and welcome to the era where professionalism, passion, commitment, and dedication to defending the country's territorial integrity would take the front seat.

The memories of the encounter with General Christopher Musa at the theatre of operations in North East Nigeria are still fresh in my mind. I am glad that the same vigor is at play in his capacity as the Chief of Defence Staff. There's a need to encourage, support, and pray for the Armed forces of Nigeria.

They sacrifice day and night for the country to be at peace. These are not ordinary feats in the era of insurgency, terrorism, and other acts of criminality. The leadership of the Armed Forces hit the ground running. It is very impressive and expected as we march towards a country free from the shackles of terrorism and other acts of criminality.

It is not Uhuru yet. More still needs to be done, and of importance is the support the Armed Forces can get from Nigerians. Together, we can make it happen.

Iwodi wrote this piece from Abuja.
Politics / LP Candidate Puts Final End To Litigation Against Deputy Speaker by aguele(m): 3:14pm On Sep 01, 2023
_...declares support for Kalu's leadership style_

The candidate of the Labour Party for the Bende Federal Constituency election, Hon. Frank Chinasa, has put a final end to his case against the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

Hon. Chinasa, who made this known at a press conference on Friday, said his decision is born out of "brotherly love and sheer understanding of our common root and patrimony-the Bende heritage."

Recall that Rt Hon. Kalu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner of the February 25th poll after garnering 10, 020 out of the 22, 308 votes cast.

The Labour Party flagbearer subsequently approached the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital to challenge Kalu's victory

But the tribunal in its ruling on August 22, 2023, delivered a judgment upholding the declaration of the Deputy Speaker as the winner.

And Chinasa says he has decided to end any further lawsuits and pledge allegiance to Rt Hon. Kalu.

He said: "I am here to inform the world that I am no longer interested in taking the matter any further beyond the tribunal. This simply means that I have decided to let go of the case.

"Kalu and I have a history that has run into decades which cannot be ruined by the transient political activities of today. First, we are brothers from Bende. Second, we are good friends and third, we intrinsically share the same objective of good representation of our people.

"At this juncture, it must be unequivocally stated that my decision to run for this election, ab initio, was to give our federal constituency the quality representation that it deserves, judging from the poor and under-representation that has bedeviled it over years.

"But here comes a young man who in his first term tried to elevate the fortunes of the constituency. And now is the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The number 6 citizen in the political hierarchy of this great country.

"I have come to reason that if highly revered people, elders from our State, the southeast region, and indeed, Nigeria will celebrate Ben and applaud President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the entire members of the Green Chambers of the National Assembly for giving Ndigbo such a position, why then, should his immediate brothers from the same constituency be seen to be the ones pulling him down? This does not make any sense in any conceivable way!

"But then, let this not be misconstrued to mean that my going to the tribunal was wrong in the first place. No! I want to categorically submit that it was well within my democratic and constitutional rights and privileges. And even Ben should understand that. What now matters is that we have eventually allowed wisdom and brotherly love to win.

"Of course, I already know that many quarters will feel jolted and offended by this decision. I hereby appeal to all men of goodwill with saner democratic credentials to understand that if even I win the matter in court, I may not possibly become the deputy speaker. The import of this is that I would have wasted a golden opportunity for Ndi Bende, Ndi Abia, and Ndigbo as a whole. Besides, let's not also forget that ultimately, God gives power."

Civic Group Demand, immediate responsibility of Governance from the Ondo Acting Governor.

....says enough of pilfering of our collective heritage.

A Sociopolitical group in Ondo Redemption Front has expressed displeasure, in what it termed the lack of Leadership, being demonstrated by the Ondo State acting Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, since the absence of the Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu from the state. The group in a Statement signed by its General Secretary, Olufemi Lawson, said there is a "lack of effective leadership and a near total collapse of governance, in Ondo State, since the transmission of Power to Mr Aiyedatiwa, by Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu."

READ FULL STATEMENT BELOW:

*ORF Demand, immediate responsibility of Governance from the Ondo Acting Governor*

The Ondo Redemption Front (ORF) express our deep concern and disappointment over the continued inefficiency and lack of Leadership, being demonstrated by the Ondo State acting Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, since the absence of the Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu from the state. It is with great disappointment that we observe a lack of effective leadership and a near total collapse of governance, in Ondo State, since the transmission of Power to Mr Aiyedatiwa, by Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, who has remained absent in office due to the condition of his Health.

Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has continued to show his lack of direction and leadership , during a time when the state needs it the most.

The absence of the Governor Akeredolu from the State, and the transmission of power to his Deputy, Mr Aiyedatiwa, should not translate into a vacuum of leadership, as currently being experienced in Ondo State.

However, recent events in Ondo State, have shown a significant gap in this regard.

We have witnessed huge disappointments in decision-making, a lack of clear communication on pressing issues, and an overall sense of uncertainty among the citizens of Ondo State. This situation not only hampers the state's progress but also erodes the public's confidence in the leadership's ability to govern effectively.

As a civic group committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance, we call upon the Ondo State House of Assembly, to immediately move in, and rescue Ondo State, from the state of near commatose, as we cannot in our clear conscience, continue to witness a leading state like Ondo, existing without a functional leadership, at this very crucial moment of the struggle, for the survival of our nation, Nigeria.

We call on the Ondo State House of Assembly, to take immediate and effective action to address this situation. Key to this is invitation of the Acting Governor to give an account of the state of the state. This is long overdue!

While hoping that the State is rejigged, we challenge the Ondo State House of Assembly to closely monitor the situation and hold the Deputy Governor accountable for his actions during this period of absence of Mr Akeredolu, that he has acted so far.

The people of Ondo State deserve leadership that is responsive, responsible, and capable of upholding the state's interests.

We believe that a well-functioning government is crucial for the prosperity and well-being of the people, and any shortcomings in leadership cannot be taken lightly.
As a group, we are uncomfortable with the running of the local governments in Ondo state and demand an accountability of the money accruable to the state and how it had been expended by the so called JAC.

We note for a legal challenge, the purported creation of Local Council Development Authorities LCDA's in the state while we are worried the funding of this created LCDAs and it's political leadership.

Of note also is the abandonment of the Cocoa Chocolate factory of the state upon which billions of Naira of our collective patrimony has been expended. That factory is now overgrown with grasses with no sign of life and we are concerned about the waste of public fund on the hitherto money making venture as promised by the state government.

We demand a probe of all activities and money expended on that project .

In conclusion, we emphasize that effective governance should not be compromised under any circumstances. We remain vigilant and committed to holding leaders accountable for their actions and decisions, particularly during critical periods. We hope that our concerns are addressed promptly, and we look forward to witnessing positive changes in the governance of Ondo State.

Long live the Sunshine State.

My administration augments federal allocations to Ogun LGs even to meet obligations for first-line charges-Abiodun

Ogun State Government on Tuesday, said that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration has often had to augment the funds allocated to local governments in the state from the Federation Account to enable them to meet their obligations.

The government, in its reaction to a letter credited to the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Mr Wale Adedayo, alleging zero revenue allocation to local governments in the state since 2021, said it had never tampered with local government funds.

It wondered how adding to the funds allocated to the local councils to enable them to meet their obligations amounted to hijacking their funds.

It said that funds meant for local governments in the state are being handled by the constitutionally recognised Joint Account and Allocation Committee (JAAC).

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the state governor, Mr Lekan Adeniran, the government said that JAAC members ensure that the third tier of government gets the required allocations for optimal performance.

It noted that the latest meeting by the JAAC was held last week, and was widely reported in the media.

At the meeting, which was held at the Conference Hall, Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, over N5bn was shared among the 20 local government areas, out of which over N2 billion went into paying teachers.

"Between May 2023 when the Governor was sworn in for the second term and July 2023, the JAAC shared among 20 local governments N4.531b, N4.444b and N4.497b respectively on first line charges and just last week N5.2b was shared among the local governments for the month of August "the statement said.

The JAAC, according to the statement, comprises major stakeholders in local government administration, including the Chief Economic Adviser to the governor, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Accountant General of the State, Permanent Secretary, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, all 20 local government chairmen, one representative from each of the four Traditional Councils in the state, representative of SUBEB, NULGE, local govt pensioners, retired primary school teachers, Local Government Service Commission, Local Government Pension Commission and NUT.

It has the mandate to meet every month to ensure that allocations to local governments are discussed and properly presented for fund allocation.

At such meetings, the state government makes full disclosure of the receipt from the federation account.

First-line charges, including local government staff salaries and pensions; primary school teachers' salaries and pensions; healthcare workers' salaries and pensions and emoluments for traditional rulers are tabled for discussion and fund allocation at the JAAC meetings, the statement said.

The statement added that this same pattern has been followed since Prince Dapo Abiodun took over the leadership of the state in 2019.

Governor Abiodun, the statement said, recently directed the local governments to identify critical roads that required government attention in their domains, with some already commissioned.

In the same vein, many schools have been rehabilitated, while others are undergoing renovation.

"In addition to these, the state government also disburse funds to all local governments for developmental projects periodically," the statement added.

Politics / ADC Presidential Candidate, Kachikwu, Flays Governor Fubara Over Pipelines’ Secu by aguele(m): 4:31pm On Aug 28, 2023
ADC Presidential Candidate, Kachikwu, flays Governor Fubara over pipelines’ security contract to Tantita

The Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, has condemned the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, for calling for pipeline security contract to be shared.

Fubara had reportedly told a high powered Federal Government delegation led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, that “Security of pipeline should not be given to one man or one person. How can someone from Kalabari be controlling the pipeline in Ogoni?”

However, Kachikwu in a reaction to the comments of the Governor in Abuja, wondered how a governor of Fubara’s calibre could descend low as to mistake a company for “one man.”

He urged Fubara to create and award contracts to ex-militants in his domain if he is not comfortable with what the Federal Government has done by identifying a competent and trusted security firm like Tantita to provide additional layer of security for the nation’s oil assets.

Kachikwu said: “Frankly, I am astonished that Governor Fubara made such an ignorant statement.

“He is the Governor of a state that is one of the leading states in crude oil theft and illegal refining activities.

“One would have expected that the gains the Federal Government and Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) are making through the partnership with Tantita and other security agencies would be applauded by him like all well-meaning Nigerians are doing but there he was talking about contract being awarded to one man.

“Did the Federal Government award the pipeline contract to a man or a company? This approach of let us share contracts for the boys must stop.

“If the Governor is so interested in contracts being awarded to former militants he can create and award contracts to those of them in his domain. After all, he is the governor. He can do what he likes.

“What is now clear to all Nigerians is that the Federal Government means business in its war against crude oil theft, and they are only working with trusted partners who they know won’t compromise.

“We must all support this effort and not reduce this to our usual comedy routine.”

Politics / Human Rights Group Applauds Tinubu Over Alkali-led NEDC Board by aguele(m): 2:56pm On Aug 25, 2023
The Coalition of Human Rights Groups in Nigeria (CHRGN) has commended President Bola Tinubu for reappointing Mohammed Goni Alkali as the MD/ CEO of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

In a statement signed by its President, Pastor Israel Abiodun, the group said this attests to Alkali antecedents as a performer.

Abiodun said the development shows that the current administration recognises excellence and rewards hard work, integrity, and accountability.

According to him, it was no surprise that Alkali was considered for a second term due to his groundbreaking achievements in the agency.

Describing the MD/ CEO as a trailblazer, reformer, and model for public officials, Abiodun said the NEDC performed way beyond expectations in the last four years.

“The establishment of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in October 2017 by President Muhammadu Buhari was to lead the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the North Eastern region of Nigeria," he said.

"Among other things, the agency is to receive and manage funds from allocation of the Federal Account and international donors for the settlement, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises of victims of insurgency as well as tackling menace of poverty, illiteracy level, ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the North-East states

"You will agree with us that the said mandate has been achieved in so many ways, thanks to Mohammed Goni. He came with a solid blueprint to transform the region from something of a wilderness into a flourishing land. Thousands of displaced persons have returned home. Infrastructures have received a facelift too.

“This much was achieved due to the transparency and accountability entrenched in the Commission by Goni. Northeast resources have benefited the entire people of the region and not some selfish bunch".

Abiodun explained that under the current leadership, the NEDC strategically assessed, reviewed, and implemented key crucial programs that drastically ameliorated the poverty matrix in the North-East Region.

He outlined some of the activities including the development of the North-East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan (NESDMP), an all-inclusive roadmap for the Reconciliation, Rehabilitation, Reactivation, Replacement, Reconstruction, Resettlement, Renewal, Regeneration, Redevelopment, and Sustainable Growth of the North-East Zone.

The group added that it is only logical to allow Goni to complete the good work he started.

He added: "Under Alkali, NEDC carried out various interventions with zeal, patriotic passion, and commitment to bring succor to the people.

"The MD/CEO's ability to coordinate, harmonize, and oversee the Commission brought success to many intervention and initiative programs for the Northeastern States through his effective, top, and outstanding managerial skills.

“We can boldly say his achievements are projects everywhere apart from human and agricultural interventions there are physical projects for all to see. We believe that soon the North East will be completely restored to not just its former glory, but better than it once was.

"Since returning to the office, the Northeast is radiating with smiles as residents know that the projects begun by Alkali will be completed".
Politics / Tribunal: South-east Group Congratulates Deputy Speaker Kalu by aguele(m): 5:47am On Aug 25, 2023
....*Seeks Forgiveness For Detractors*

The South-East Revival Group has congratulated the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for another victory at the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

In a statement signed by its President, Mazi Kennedy Osita, the group described Kalu's mandate as divine and can never be stolen by anyone.

In the last two days, the Tribunal struck out two petitions by the Action Alliance (AA) and Labour Party challenging the Deputy Speaker's election for Bende Federal Constituency.

Osita said Thursday's case was unique especially after the AA candidate Ifeanyi Igbokwe had distanced himself from the suit, saying he never filed or authorized anyone to initiate any legal action against Kalu.

Mazi Osita said this all but confirms that there are individuals who have sworn to bring the Deputy Speaker down at all costs.

He noted that besides their fake court case, they have gone as far as blackmailing the former Spokesman of the House of the Reps in a bid to discredit him in the eyes of Nigerians.

But Osita said that Rt Hon. Kalu, in his characteristics manner, has remained focused on his promises to his constituency and commitment to Nigerians.

He reckons that the two judgments have not only validated Kalu's victory but affirmed that he is God's choice to lead his people at this time to champion a new era for the Igbo nation.

"We welcome the decision of the Tribunal to strike out a non-existing suit against the Deputy Speaker. This is proof of God's grace," Osita said.

"It is true that some elements of darkness are against Kalu, the light of the Igbo nation. We are aware that they resorted to different gimmicks to tarnish his reputation. But the Deputy Speaker is a man on a mission who can't be stopped.

"Being the highest-ranking Igbo man in government, some persons are not happy. What exactly are Kalu's crimes?

"This a man who has changed the landscape of politics in the South-East. He is kind, generous, and a lover of his people. Kalu oozes excellence, capacity, and hard work.

"He believes in the unity of the nation and sees every Nigerian as his brother. This is the sort of leader we need in our land if we must make progress".

Osita, therefore, urged the Deputy Speaker to forgive his detractors and show them love as he has always done.

While noting that Kalu is a man of peace, he further charged the lawmaker not to change his good ways.

"As a Christian and father, we wish to beg the DSP to embrace all his detractors. Indeed, they are still struggling with the new glory that God has brought upon the South East.

"Rt Hon. Kalu is not known as the Ijele of Igboland for nothing and that is why we urge him to stay true to the title as his reign is bringing about reconciliation between the Igbos and the rest of the country. Something that eluded the Igbo nation since after the civil war.

"On this note, we wish to emphasize that nothing supersedes peace, unity, and love. If our region must grow, we must support each other. Kalu needs all of that right now".

Osita, however, advised "enemies of Igboland" hell-bent on frustrating Kalu to repent immediately.
Politics / 10th NASS And How Tajudeen Abass Is Re-defining Democracy by aguele(m): 5:37am On Aug 25, 2023
By Philip Agbese

Jeremy Bentham once said, “The greatest happiness of the greatest number is the foundation of morals and legislation.”

In this wise, one can easily deduced that, a nation can never be worth being called a nation, and will never be complete until democracy becomes power to make law given to the people by the people for the people.

Hon Tajudeen Abbas has taken on the monumental task of redefining democracy in Nigeria and he has already made significant strides in achieving this goal. Since his election, he has made it a priority to clean up the corruption and inefficiency that has plagued the parliament for years.

One of Abbas’s first acts as Speaker was to introduce a new code of conduct for lawmakers. This code prohibits lawmakers from accepting gifts from lobbyists or engaging in any other corrupt practices. Abbas has also cracked down on absenteeism, and he has made it clear that he will not tolerate any wrongdoing.

In relation to Montesquieu quote which says, “A good parliament is the foundation of a good government”, Abass multiplicity of splendor in the 10th assembly has stirred up a remarkable intellect which has led to a magnificent increase in Nigeria’s helm of progressive-democracy.

Abass is a passionate and dedicated politician. He is also a skilled orator and a shrewd negotiator who is not afraid to speak his mind, even when it is unpopular.

As a great parliamentarian, John Locke, once said, “The people are the masters, and the parliament is their servant.” Undoubtedly affirming to this, Abass has been committed to using his position in the House of Representatives to fight for the rights of the people and to make Nigeria a better place.

In showing his commitment to economic development and the understanding that democracy cannot work if people are not able to meet their basic needs, he has been working to ensure that the House of Representatives passes laws and policies that promote economic growth and development. He has also been a vocal advocate for the rights of workers and has taken steps to ensure that they are treated fairly.

His sincerity and honesty have had a profound impact on the parliament. He has been a vocal advocate for the people, consistently pushing for reforms that benefit the citizens. His principled stance has earned him the respect of his colleagues, who have come to see him as a trustworthy and reliable lawmaker.

Tajudeen Abbas has shown his commitment to open parliament. He understands that democracy is about the people and that the people have a right to know what is happening in their government. This is why he has made transparency and accountability a top priority. He has opened up the proceedings of the House of Representatives to the public, making it easier for Nigerians to see what their representatives are doing and hold them accountable for their actions.

Hon Abass can be regarded as a noble man with the understanding that democracy cannot work if it only benefits a selected few. This is why he has been working tirelessly to ensure that all Nigerians have a voice in the political process. He has encouraged the participation of women, youth, and other marginalized groups in the political process, and has worked to ensure that their voices are heard.
He has also been a strong advocate for the rights of the people, particularly the poor and marginalized.

One of the hallmarks of great parliamentarians is their ability to work across party lines and build consensus. As former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once said, “Consensus is the negation of leadership.” Tajudeen Abass has been a unifying force, bringing lawmakers from different parties and regions together to work towards common goals.

He has shown himself to be a true leader, working to build bridges between different factions, creating a more harmonious political environment, and promoting a more collaborative and inclusive political system. His altruism has created a sense of togetherness, friendship and close bond between lawmakers.

He understands that democracy cannot flourish in a society where the rule of law is not respected. This is why he has been a vocal advocate for the independence of the judiciary and has taken steps to ensure that the House of Representatives abides by the laws of the land. This commitment to the rule of law is crucial for the development of a strong and stable democracy in Nigeria.

According to former British Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone, “The first duty of a statesman is to maintain peace and avoid war.” Tajudeen Abass has shown himself to be a true statesman, working tirelessly to promote peace and stability in Nigeria. His efforts to promote open parliament are a testament to his commitment to transparency and accountability.

Abass’s leadership has been characterized by a strong sense of purpose and direction. He has been a driving force behind many of the reforms that have been implemented in the parliament, and his contributions have been instrumental in shaping the political landscape in Nigeria.

As former Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker once said, “I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” Tajudeen Abass embodies this spirit of freedom and democracy, working to ensure that the voices of the people are heard in the halls of power.

His commitment to transparency and accountability has helped to restore the people’s faith in the political system. The citizens now have a renewed sense of confidence in their lawmakers, knowing that there are people like Abass who are committed to serving their interests

Abass is a man of principle, one who is committed to the ideals of democracy and good governance. He is also a man of action. He is not content to simply talk about change; he is committed to making it happen.

Abass is a true champion of democracy. He has always been fighting for the rights of the people and for a better Nigeria. He is an inspiration to all who believe in the power of democracy to bring about positive change.

As former South African President Nelson Mandela once said, “A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.” Tajudeen Abass has shown himself to be a formidable force in the Nigerian political landscape, combining his intelligence and his compassion to effect positive change. His commitment to open parliament has helped to restore the people’s faith in the political system, and his leadership has been instrumental in shaping the political landscape in Nigeria.

Abbas’s efforts have already had a positive impact on the parliament. Attendance rates have improved, and there have been fewer reports of corruption. Lawmakers are now more accountable to their constituents, and they are more focused on passing legislation that benefits the people.

Abass’s impact on the parliament and democracy in Nigeria has been nothing short of remarkable and impressive. His personality have been a breath of fresh air in the Nigerian political landscape. His principled stance has been a source of inspiration for many, and it has helped to restore the people’s faith in the political system.

Tajudeen Abass is a true statesman, embodying the characteristics of great parliamentarians throughout history. His commitment to transparency and accountability has helped to promote open parliament in Nigeria, and his leadership has been instrumental in shaping the political landscape in the country.

Furthermore, Tajudeen Abass has shown a great unequivocal commitment to transparency, accountability, inclusivity, the rule of law, fighting corruption, economic development, and peace and stability, which are all crucial for the development of a strong and stable democracy in Nigeria.

In a recent interview, Abbas said that he is committed to making the Nigerian parliament a more transparent and accountable institution. He said that he wants to create a parliament that the people can be proud of, and he is confident that he can achieve this goal.

As Nigerians, we must all support his efforts and work together to build a better future for our country.

Just as former US President John F. Kennedy once said, “Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer.Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.”

Let us accept our responsibility for the future of Nigeria and work towards building a better tomorrow for all, and the generations to come.
