PoliticsLet The Poor Hear: Agbese Condemns Closure Of Joy Fm by aguele(op): 6:08pm On Jan 31, 2025
Hon. Philip Agbese, the honourable member representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency strongly condemns the unwarranted closure of Joy FM Radio Station, Otukpo, by the Benue State Government. He said the brazen attack on the press is a disturbing trend under the Alia administration, which threatens the very fabric of our democracy.

Agbese said the commando-style invasion of the station by armed policemen, led by the Chairman of Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) is a gross abuse of power. The rough handling of staff on duty and the forced termination of a live broadcast at gunpoint are unacceptable.

Joy FM has been a vital source of information, education, and entertainment for the people of Benue State, providing employment opportunities for young people and contributing to the state's economic growth.

The closure, therefore, is a devastating blow to Benue people, particularly the poor and vulnerable who rely on the station as their lifeline. Joy FM is more than just a radio station - it is the oxygen that flows through the ears of the poor in both challenging and pleasant times, providing them with vital information, education, and entertainment. Its absence will be deeply felt, leaving a gaping void in the lives of those who depend on it for news, guidance, and comfort.

We are reliably informed that this is just the beginning of a broader crackdown on democratic institutions in Benue. If this trend continues, we fear that soon, our people will not be allowed to worship God in their churches, mosques, or other places of worship. Gatherings of families, friends, and communities will be restricted, and the very fabric of our society will be torn apart.

Equally worrisome is the deafening silence of some Benue South individuals who have inexplicably turned collaborators in this act, abandoning their moral obligation to speak truth to power. Their complicity is a betrayal of the trust reposed in them by our people. We, therefore, urge the Alia administration to desist from this path and respect the fundamental rights of citizens.

As a representative of the people, Agbese stands in solidarity with the management and staff of Joy FM and demand that the Benue State Government immediately reverses its decision and allows the station to resume operations. The people have a right to know, to hear and be heard and the Enone Servant will continue to speak truth to power.

Education Under Attack: Rep. Agbese Condemns Senseless Burning of Schools in Okpoga

The office of the Deputy Spokesman, 10th House of Representatives, is outraged and deeply disturbed by the malicious burning of two blocks of classrooms at UBE JSS Ugwu Okpoga and Government Secondary School, both in Okpoga, Okpokwu Local Government.

This dastardly act is not only an affront to the educational aspirations of young children but also a slap in the face of our collective humanity. The Enone Servant, Rep. Philip Agbese, strongly condemns this heinous crime and demands that the security agencies leave no stone unturned in unraveling the mystery behind this senseless destruction.

The fact that this is the second such incident in a matter of weeks suggests that a sinister force is hell-bent on undermining the educational foundation of children. Hon. Agbese assures the good people of his constituency that he will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to justice and the damaged schools are rebuilt.

As a champion of education, Hon. Agbese has always prioritised the educational empowerment of his constituents. He believes that education is the key to unlocking the potential of young children and transforming the fortunes of his constituency.

In the face of this senseless destruction, Hon. Agbese remains resolute in his commitment to education. He promises to work tirelessly with the relevant authorities, parents, and the community to ensure that the damaged schools are rebuilt within the next one year.

We shall demonstrate to the perpetrators that no one can defeat the future of these children. Within the next 90 days, our team will break ground on a brand-new, state-of-the-art school facility that will provide these kids with a safe, modern, and conducive learning environment.

Let this incident strengthen our resolve to protect the future of children. Thank you.

PoliticsMy Apology To Mele Kyari By Doyin Okupe by aguele(op): 5:35pm On Jan 08, 2025
By: Dr. Doyin Okupe

I write today with a deep sense of humility and genuine admiration for the remarkable achievements of Mr. Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), as he marks his 60th birthday.

It is no secret that I, along with many others, was once a vocal critic of NNPCL and its leadership. In fact, like my former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, I shared the belief that nothing positive could come from the NNPCL, and I openly expressed skepticism over its ability to deliver on its promises. I was, at that time, dismissive of the leadership of Mr. Mele Kyari, and I even laughed at the very idea of NNPCL's creation.

However, the remarkable and multi-dimensional achievements of Mr. Kyari and his management team have truly reshaped my perspective. Over the past few years, I have watched with astonishment as NNPCL has made tangible strides in transforming Nigeria's oil and gas sector. The revival of our refineries, the revitalization of critical infrastructure, and the efforts to tackle the petroleum industry’s long-standing issues have defied all expectations.

Particularly commendable is the significant downward trend in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at the pumps, which is a direct result of NNPCL’s strategic initiatives and commitment to improving the petroleum sector for the benefit of the Nigerian people. This development is already easing some of the economic burdens Nigerians have been grappling with, and it deserves widespread commendation.

On this occasion of Mr. Mele Kyari’s 60th birthday, I seize the opportunity to offer my heartfelt congratulations. Your dedication, leadership, and achievements have not only earned the respect of your peers, but have also turned former critics like myself into proud supporters of the work you continue to do.

I pray that the Almighty God blesses you with continued wisdom, strength, and success as you press forward in your mission to ensure a more prosperous future for Nigeria. May your efforts continue to help alleviate the hardships of Nigerians, particularly by further reducing the cost of PMS, and may you be richly rewarded for your service to the nation.

Congratulations once again, Mr. Mele Kyari.

PoliticsPresident Tinubu: Eastern Rail Line Will Be Completed, And Anambra Basin Will Re by aguele(op): 8:41pm On Jan 04, 2025
PRESIDENT TINUBU: EASTERN RAIL LINE WILL BE COMPLETED, AND ANAMBRA BASIN WILL RECEIVE DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

President Bola Tinubu has made a firm commitment that his administration will complete the Eastern Rail line connecting Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.

President Tinubu gave the assurance during an interactive session with South East leaders during his official visit to Enugu State on Saturday.

The President also pledged that his administration would support the development of the Anambra Basin as a significant energy reserve.

The basin is estimated to hold up to 1 billion barrels of oil and 30 billion cubic feet of gas.

During the meeting, the President was attentive to the requests made by former Minister of Power Professor Chinedu Nebo and Enugu State indigene Chris Ugoh and responded with a commitment to address their concerns.

While applauding the Tinubu administration for completing the Port Harcourt to Aba section of the Eastern rail line, Nebo appealed to the President to prioritise the completion of the remaining portions of the rail link.

He emphasised the rail link's potential to boost Nigeria's non-oil exports and economic growth.

Ugoh noted that the Anambra Basin has the potential to support power generation and industrial feedstocks.

He appealed to the Federal Government to develop this resource to benefit the southeast and other regions of the country, including the Middle Belt and the North.

Onyemauche Nnamani, the National Commissioner representing the South East in the Police Service Commission, urged the Federal Government to implement modern security strategies in the region, akin to the statewide CCTV system and patrol cars with surveillance cameras in Enugu State.

Nnamani called on the federal government to de-emphasise the mounting of checkpoints and roadblocks in the region, saying, "It is inefficient and exposes our security personnel to attacks by non-state actors."

Responding to the request for the rail line, President Tinubu reassured the audience, saying, "It is a work in progress. I inherited some of these critical problems and am committed to solving them."

"On the support of the gas infrastructure. Sure, gas is an alternative to petrol. There is no wasting of time than to invest more in it. We will do it together, and I am lucky I have good governors. ''

Acknowledging the presence of various dignitaries, including governors, traditional rulers, captains of industry and serving and former presiding officers of the National Officer from the South East, President Tinubu praised former Senate President Ken Nnamani for saving Nigeria's democracy from those who wanted to derail it with the Third Term project.

Earlier at the meeting, President Tinubu praised Governor Peter Mbah for his development model and philosophy after inaugurating several projects executed by the state government.

He pledged that the federal government would continue to support Enugu and other states in their development efforts.

Among the projects inaugurated by the President are the GTC Smart Green School, New Haven/Bisalla Road, the International Conference Center, the Command-and-Control Center, and 150 patrol vehicles equipped with surveillance cameras.

The President also performed the virtual commissioning of other notable projects from the Enugu State Government House.

At the inauguration of the Command-and-Control Center, the President said investment in security will bring rapid development.

"This is a profound demonstration of what we can do together. It reassures me that more revenue going to the sub-nationals and local government is not a waste. It is for development.

"We have committed leaders like Peter Mbah taking Enugu on the path of 21st-century development, taking Enugu to greater heights, and building our tomorrow today.

"I cannot forget the sight of those children I just met at the Smart Green School.

"I have seen the gadgets and vehicles with 21st-century technology. Yes, you are indeed working for today, tomorrow and the future.

"My good friend Peter, we can go places together to build Nigeria and build the future.

"It is audacious to have this home filled with technology, and they are ready for use. To promote investment, I know you are a private sector person, and we must encourage more private sector people to come into politics.

"When you are sure of security and development and give value for money, investors will be your friend," he said.

President Tinubu further lauded the governor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, for demonstrating an irrevocable commitment to human development.

"I don't care which party you come from; you are my friend. Alex Otti of Abia State is also doing very well. It is not about the differences in languages and place of birth.

"No one of us has control of the mother tongue. God created us, and you can find yourself in Enugu, Onitsha or Lagos. We are all members of one huge family called Nigeria, but we live in different rooms in the same house.

"We must build this house to satisfy our immediate and future needs," he said.

At the interactive session, Governor Mbah described President Tinubu as a true federalist.

He commended the Tinubu administration for establishing the South East Development Commission and liberalising the electricity sector through the Electricity Act (Amendment).

He congratulated the President on being named ThisDay Man of the Year and acknowledged his efforts to revitalise Nigeria's growth and economic resilience.

"Your Excellency, your credential as a true federalist stands out brightly, and the legacies thereof will long earn you resounding accolades.

"In signing the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, you liberalised electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. That singular act will consistently rank as an enduring legacy.

"It is noteworthy that Enugu State was the first sub-national to which the NERC ceded regulatory oversight of the local electricity market. That reflects how swiftly we are pursuing our goals," he said.

According to the governor, the South East Development Commission will address infrastructure and ecological challenges in the region while complementing the many development strides unfolding across the state.

Governor Mbah reiterated his vision to grow Enugu's economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within 4 years, aiming to position the state among Nigeria's top three states in terms of GDP.

He said this grand dream can be achieved when security is guaranteed, quality education thrives, and citizens can access affordable healthcare.

The governor outlined the bold steps taken to enhance public safety in the state, including ending the illegal sit-at-home order imposed across the Southeast by a criminal gang and non-state actors.

''We no longer observe sit-at-home in Enugu. Our people go to work every day of the week, and we no longer take orders from non-state actors," he said.

The governor told the President that some of the Smart Green Schools commissioned during the state visit were part of the modern schools introduced by his administration across 260 wards to equip students with 21st-century skills.

The governor explained that his administration has focused on primary healthcare, upgrading all 260 primary healthcare centres to maintain consistent quality, even in remote areas.

"All these infrastructural developments are mainly possible because of your bold initiatives.

"The courageous pronouncements you made to free up funds for development: the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange, and several social interventions that your government continues to provide for the people of this country.

"We are now essentially, with those funds freed, able to fully complete these projects. And it's not just physical infrastructure; social and digital infrastructure are going on," Governor Mbah said.

Politics2025: The Year Of Tough Choices by aguele(op): 11:03am On Jan 01, 2025
By: Dumebi Kachikwu

Robert Frost in his popular poem ‘The Road Not Taken’ said ‘Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.’

My dear Nigerians, we have come to the beginning of another year. New resolutions, new round of prayers and another opportunity for a hard reset or a fresh start.

Today I would like us to consider the path we have taken as individuals and as a nation. Do we continue with prayers and resolutions whilst on the same popular path that has led us nowhere or do we take the road less traveled?

2025 will be the year of tough choices and our very survival as individuals and as a people will depend on the choices we make.
Do we continue in mediocrity or make excellence the minimum standard?

Do we continue with ethnicity and religion or run our nation on a merit based system? Do we continue with a nation and government that works for a few or one that works for us all?

Do we continue in hate and strife or in peace and love? We need to make choices concerning the corruption that pervades every facet of our society, the failure of our health care and education systems, the increasing moral decay in our nation and the absence of civility in our civic space.

Our individual choices affect the collective. The blame game is no longer fashionable. We must accept that only through personal responsibility and commitment can we bring about the desired change we need in our lives and our nation.

Every man for himself and God for us all has not worked for us. Our destinies are bound by blood and brotherhood and no amount of ethnic agitation will put asunder the Nigeria that God has created.

We must all accept this truth and commit to the building of a new Nigeria that will be a beacon of hope to all men. It all begins and ends with the choices we make in 2025. Happy New Year to you all.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. God bless you all.

PoliticsEmpowering Kwara Youths: Turning Hardship Into Opportunity by aguele(op): 2:00pm On Dec 24, 2024
By Mukhtar Akoshile

Amidst the economic and social challenges plaguing our nation, empowering young people has been at the core of my mission. The youths of Kwara State, like many across Nigeria, face staggering unemployment rates, limited access to quality education, and dwindling opportunities. Yet, I believe that these challenges, no matter how daunting, are not insurmountable. My commitment to empowering Kwara youths stems from a deep understanding of their potential to drive change, even in adversity, and a determination to provide them with the tools they need to thrive.

My journey in activism and leadership has been shaped by experiences that reinforced the need for youth empowerment. As a former leader in the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), I advocated for better educational policies and student rights, focusing on creating platforms that allowed young people to rise above systemic obstacles. Today, as Vice President of the North Central Zone of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the West African Regional Coordinator for the Afro-Arab Youth Council, I continue to champion causes that amplify the voices of young people, with a particular focus on Kwara youths.

Economic hardship has had a disproportionate impact on young people in Kwara State. The collapse of industries, coupled with a lack of job opportunities, has pushed many into uncertainty. Despite these challenges, I have remained steadfast in my belief that young people hold the key to solving many of these systemic issues. This conviction has driven me to initiate programs and advocate for policies that uplift and empower the youth of Kwara.

One of the key areas of focus has been skills acquisition. In collaboration with local organizations, I have facilitated workshops and training sessions aimed at equipping young people with vocational skills. These programs have not only enhanced their employability but have also fostered an entrepreneurial spirit among participants. Whether it is tailoring, welding, ICT, or small-scale farming, these skills have opened doors to financial independence for many youths who might otherwise have been excluded from the job market.

Education remains a cornerstone of my empowerment strategy. Understanding that financial constraints often prevent young people from pursuing their academic dreams, I have worked tirelessly to provide scholarships and distribute educational materials to students in need. These efforts are not merely about reducing dropout rates but also about inspiring a generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders who can shape the future of Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.

In addition to skills acquisition and educational support, I have been a strong advocate for youth inclusion in decision-making processes. Too often, the voices of young people are ignored in matters that directly affect their future. Through my leadership roles, I have lobbied for policies that ensure the inclusion of youths in governance and community development projects. These efforts have not only empowered young people to participate actively in societal change but have also provided them with the confidence to take on leadership roles.

Recognizing the importance of connecting local talent with global opportunities, I have also sought to harness the potential of Kwara youths in the diaspora. Many young Kwarans living abroad possess skills, experiences, and networks that can contribute significantly to the development of our state. By bridging the gap between these individuals and their communities back home, we have created a pipeline of ideas and resources that benefit all parties involved. This initiative has been particularly impactful in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

The journey, however, has not been without challenges. Economic constraints have limited the scale of our initiatives, while societal resistance to change has tested our resolve. In some instances, entrenched political interests have sought to stifle our efforts, fearing the transformative power of an empowered youth population. Yet, these obstacles have only strengthened my determination. The resilience of Kwara youths, their willingness to learn, and their unwavering hope for a better future have been a constant source of inspiration.

My efforts to empower Kwara youths go beyond responding to immediate economic challenges. They are rooted in a long-term vision for a prosperous and inclusive Kwara State. By equipping young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities they need to succeed, we are building a foundation for sustainable development. A future where young people are not just beneficiaries of progress but active contributors to it.

As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela: “The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.” This belief has guided my every action and will continue to do so. I envision a Kwara State where young people are empowered to lead, innovate, and inspire. Where hardship does not define us but strengthens our resolve to build a better tomorrow.

Empowering Kwara youths amidst hardship is not just a response to the challenges of today; it is an investment in the leaders of tomorrow. Together, with collective action and a shared commitment to progress, we can overcome adversity and unlock the boundless potential of our young people. This is the legacy I strive to leave behind—a Kwara State where every young person has the opportunity to dream, achieve, and thrive.

PoliticsWike's Enemies Out To Disrupt Transformation Of FCT Into A Model Capital Territo by aguele(op): 12:20am On Dec 13, 2024
Wike's enemies out to disrupt transformation of FCT into a model capital territory- CTJ

The Coalition for Truth and Justice (CTJ) has thrown its weight behind the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike in enforcing an orderly development of the territory, stating that his enemies are out to disrupt his ongoing efforts to transform the FCT into a model capital territory.

CTJ’s Executive Director, Dr Idoko Ainoko said in a statement on Friday that the Minister’s detractors are masquerading as emergency activists and property owners using allegations of land grabbing and revocation of land titles as their cover to sabotage the FCT’s masterplan.

He dismissed such accusations as baseless and part of a calculated attempt by Wike's detractors to undermine his transformative efforts in the FCT.

Ainoko pointed out, “It is curious that people are raising the alarm about the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, grabbing their plots of land, revoking plots, and demolishing illegal structures, without amply proving that they were in the right and the Minister was in the wrong.

“We have also noticed that many of these people rely on the court of public opinion in social media to demonise the hard-working Minister with all manners of allegations. One would have expected anyone aggrieved by the enforcement of the FCT masterplan and other extant policies would have challenged such in a court of competent jurisdiction and enforce their rights.

"Wike's commitment to project delivery and his visionary leadership have made him a target for those envious of his achievements. These unfounded allegations are merely a distraction from the remarkable progress being made under his administration. The Minister has always prioritised the interests of the residents of the FCT, ensuring that due processes are followed and development of structures in the FCT are conducted with utmost integrity.

"As much as some people are deploying emotional blackmail to justify their violation of the rules, the measures deployed to address these violations are necessary to ensure that the FCT continues to grow and thrive as a modern and efficient capital territory," Ainoko stated.

The CTJ’s Executive Director highlighted Wike’s instrumentality in driving significant development projects within the FCT, meant to elevate it to a model capital territory, which he is dedicated to implementing while consistently adhering to due process and legal frameworks in all his dealings.

The CTJ also praised Wike's proactive approach to tackling illegal land encroachments and unauthorised constructions. “It shocking that people with mischievous intent dwell on the enforcement of the Master Plan only in terms of how illegalities are being corrected, while they neglect to mention the expanding road networks, the opening up of satellite towns to provide affordable housing for residents and the overall conducive atmosphere being created in the territory.

Ainoko urged the public to disregard the accusations and to support Minister Wike's ongoing efforts to transform the FCT. "We must not allow the malicious actions of a few to derail the progress being made. Wike's vision for the FCT is one of prosperity and development, and we must stand by him in achieving this goal," he asserted.
Politics21 Reasons Why Nigerians Are Happy With Aviation Minister Keyamo by aguele(op): 7:40am On Dec 12, 2024
By Kabir Ismail

Festus Keyamo, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has been making waves in the Nigerian aviation industry. His outstanding leadership and commitment to the sector have earned him the prestigious "Super Minister Award" from The Street Journal. But what's behind his widespread popularity among Nigerians?

A seasoned politician, lawyer, and human rights activist, Keyamo has had a distinguished career spanning several years. Born on January 21, 1970, in Ughelli, Delta State, Nigeria, he graduated with a Law degree from the University of Benin in 1992. Keyamo's impressive resume includes practising law in Lagos and Abuja, working as a columnist for various Nigerian newspapers, and advocating for justice and equality as a human rights activist.

As the Director of Strategic Communications for the Buhari 2019 Presidential Campaign, Keyamo's leadership skills and expertise propelled him to become the Minister of State for Labour and Employment from 2019 to 2023. His subsequent appointment as Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development in 2023 marked a significant milestone in his career.

Keyamo took the reins of the aviation ministry at a critical juncture, with several unresolved issues plaguing the sector. From the contentious Nigeria Air project to concerns over dollar scarcity, high aviation fuel costs, and multiple taxation, Keyamo faced a daunting task. However, his focused leadership and dedication to the sector have begun to bear fruit, earning him widespread acclaim and admiration from Nigerians.

But what exactly has Keyamo done to win the hearts of Nigerians? Here are 22 reasons.

1. A man of patriotic integrity and immense articulation and insightfulness, Keyamo stopped the incessant and tragic plane crashes and consequent spilling of blood witnessed in the country before he became the Minister of Aviation. Before that time the country’s aviation sector witnessed about five crashes in the space of one year which claimed approximately 400 lives. All that ceased under his tenure not only did no plane crash but also no plane went missing.

2. A transparent and honest leader, Keyamo For the first time, Nigeria has been excluded from the Airlines’ $1.7 billion Trapped Funds by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), this has enhanced connectivity and the economic prosperity of Nigeria. Amidst funds repatriation difficulties faced by international airlines operating in Nigeria over the past two years, by working closely with the Central Bank of Nigeria, the minister’s effort ensured the clearance of the longstanding backlog of trapped funds for foreign airlines. This singular act resolved an issue that had lingered for years, boosting international airlines’ confidence and creating an avenue for them to resume flight operations in the country. For instance, Emirates Airlines, which suspended operations over a year ago due to difficulties encountered in repatriating trapped funds, announced the resumption of flight services to Nigeria on 1 October.

3. In a bid to enhance IGR, Keyamo also recently obtained approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to withdraw the ticket payment exemption granted to highly placed Nigerians at the nation’s airports. According to the Minister, “The ministry has been losing huge revenue that ordinarily should not be. With the new system, everybody coming into the nation’s airports must pay the toll gate fees. Already the president and the vice president have agreed to be part of those that would pay.’’

4. One other area that makes Nigerians happy with Keyamo as Aviation Minister is his prompt action in mitigating compromises and ensuring the safety of lives. An instance in April, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), suspended the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of Dana Airlines over safety concerns. This was announced less than 48 hours after an aircraft (MD82 with registration marks 5SN-BKI) belonging to Dana Air experienced a runway incursion upon landing at the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on a flight from Abuja. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported at the time.

5. Keyamo administered the Intervention Fund entrusted to him transparently and openly and also insisted on due process and due diligence in the application of funds as a Minister.  For instance, out of the N11 billion disbursed to him in his first tenure as Aviation Minister, he left N7.2 billion, this included about N100 million that was left from the fund, sourced and spent on the safe tower project by his predecessor. Also in the Intervention Fund Account, he applied approximately N3.8billiont. Balance for all the contracts that were awarded in the Intervention Fund Account was left for the payment of all awarded contracts upon completion. It is on record that out of the N2billion soft loan from Rivers State Government for the Port Harcourt runway, approximately N1, 633,000,000.00 was in the account when Keyamo came into office. However, N1.5billion (50% of the contract cost) was paid to the contractor, leaving approximately N133million in that account. The balance for the Port Harcourt runway of N1.5 billion is also embedded in the main Intervention Fund account.
Nigerians are happy because no money has ever been missing, misappropriated, mismanaged or unaccounted for by Keyamo.

6. Within two weeks of assumption of office it is to his credit that Keyamo resolved a protracted land dispute that had delayed the commencement of the construction of the Abuja airport’s second runway, despite an initial deposit made over a year before the commencement of the current administration, in collaboration with the Minister of the FCT, the sum of N825.8 million was paid as compensation to the host Jiwa community and other stakeholders in Abuja. Who will not be happy with a Minister like that?

7. A people-oriented leader, Keyamo within a month of assumption also directed all airlines to vacate the old terminal at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, after a tour of the facility which aided him in identifying the flaws in the design of the facility which initially rendered the terminal unusable for many international flights. Consequently, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced the relocation of international flight operations from the airport’s old terminal to the new terminal two, making it fully operational. He also in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service, supervised the remodelling of the Arrival Hall of Wing E of the Lagos International Airport into a brand-new facility through a Public-Private Partnership. In a bid to curb the waste of public resources and prevent the rot of FAAN’s abandoned Lagos building among others, Keyamo in January approved the relocation of FAAN’s headquarters from Abuja to Lagos, explaining that officials of the agency spent about N1 billion in 2023 on Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) and air tickets for travels between Abuja and Lagos. The decision enabled the project contractors to return to work Chief Keyamo in a demonstration of enthusiasm for national development and patriotism made certain that the Lagos Airport Second Runway which was out of use was swiftly repaired and reactivated, he also ensured the grounding of more planes that the NCAA considered to be unfit for air travel than any other Minister in the history of aviation thereby saving lives.

8. Nigerians are happy with Keyamo as Aviation Minister because he has been able to resolve several lingering concerns undermining the industry and develop a robust and efficient aviation sector. Keyamo’s Influence in shaping public opinion, and changing narratives, coupled with visionary attributes in offering innovative solutions, led to Nigerians being accorded the same respect that other nationals were enjoying from foreign airlines all over the world. This is because he summoned them and insisted that this must be so.

9. Keyamo under rare and difficult situations as Minister of Aviation, fought for and won several international routes for Nigerian carriers.

10. A man who demanded accountability and discipline from all levels of staff, he ensured that there was a much higher level of discipline and efficiency from the airline operators and parastatals as a Minister. A dogged workaholic, Festus ensured the completion and launching of the MMA Terminal 2, which is probably one of the best examples of public/private sector partnerships on the African continent. This gave Nigerian aviation a tremendous boost.

11. Keyamo initiated and followed to a logical conclusion the recommendation for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) autonomy from the Ministry and the passing of the Bill by the National Assembly after it was given unprecedented support by Mr President and the Ministry of Aviation. This resulted in the passing of the NCAA Act.

12. Keyamo established an independent and thoroughly professional Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) which was set up to investigate air crashes. The before him was for the Ministry of Aviation itself to investigate air crashes but this proved to be inefficient, unsatisfactory, unreliable and subject to manipulation.

13. Through Keyamo, Nigeria became a signatory of the “Cape Town Convention”, which allowed Nigerian airline operators to secure international loans.

14. He won approval from the Federal Executive Council and implemented the policy of “re-capitalization” of all the airlines operating in the country. This led to the establishment of bigger, stronger airliners with a larger capital and asset base and phased out the era of “one owner, one pilot, one plane” airliners which were virtually operating as flying coffins in Nigeria. This increased and enhanced the safety of Nigerian carriers and ensured that they were in a better position to honour all their obligations and insurance claims.

15. Under Keyamo as Minister of Aviation and as a consequence of his action the Ministry of Aviation was granted access to and the exclusive utilisation of the BASA Fund (Bi-lateral Air Services Agreement Fund) which is lodged at the CBN which runs into billions of Naira. The aviation sector desperately needs this money.

16. A man who earns respect from both opponents and supporters, his astuteness and character, earned him the confidence of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) bringing them into the affairs of the airports, an action that mitigated against and greatly reduced the cases of money laundering and other related crimes.

17. One very strong reason for the positive feelings of Nigerians towards Festus Keyamo is the forthright handling of the long-awaited TRACON project (Total Radar Coverage) for the whole country. Before assuming office, the project had been abandoned for two years simply because someone had suggested that the original system, which had already depleted huge sums of money, should be abandoned and a newer more modern system, used only by 3 other countries in the world, should be procured. This decision left Nigeria with no radar coverage because everything came to a standstill, with obvious implications for air travel in Nigeria and even for the defence of our airspace. The newer system that was being proposed was not only unsuitable for Nigeria but would also have come at an even higher cost in terms of money and time.

18. Keyamo’s involvement of the company; Thales of France, and the approval for the manufacture and procurement of the original system, which had been contracted and partially paid for, led to the commencement of work on TRACON. Not done Keyamo also insisted that the original plan be implemented. Undaunted by the addition of more funds, the project has led to Nigeria having a full radar coverage. Nigerians are indeed very happy that Keyamo did not resurrect the project but so it to its logical conclusion. Today, Nigeria has full radar coverage for enhanced defence capabilities and safety, ensuring that planes stop disappearing without a trace.

19. As a result of Keyamo’s initiatives and various interventions, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International, Abuja and the Aminu Kano International, Kano Airports have been concessioned by the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). He resurrected and restored radar coverage for Lagos and Abuja (150km range) and this was the first time that radar had worked anywhere in the country since 1979. Nigerians feel highly gratified because this is a matter of national pride and self-respect.

20. A resilient and indefatigable fighter, Keyamo used his congruence to influence the Federal Executive Council into approving a waiver on the importation of spare parts for Nigerian airline operators. This has helped the airline operators considerably and cushioned the effects of the re-capitalization policy on them.

21. Nigerians are happy with Keyamo as minister of Aviation because of the installation of the “Ground Proximity Warning System” (GPWS) in every plane that flies in Nigerian airspace. This has also enhanced safety and security.

22. Keyamo has achieved so much as Aviation Minister to make Nigerians happy. He enforced the “no cutting of corners” standard for all airline operators in the country, leading to full compliance with all the safety and security rules and mechanisms. He established the removal of the discretionary powers of pilots to land in bad weather and rather gave the control tower the power to compel them not to land if the weather was not good enough. This has enhanced safety immeasurably and, saved many lives. Nigerians are happy because Keyamo will always clarify complex issues, develop innovative solutions, inspire confidence, champion justice and equality, and provide insightful legal perspectives. They are happy with him for supporting job creation initiatives and encouraging youth participation in politics. Nigerians are very happy with Keyamo for advocating for transparency and remaining exemplary in conduct.

There is no gainsaying the fact that Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, FCIArb (UK) has performed brilliantly well endearing him to the lives of millions of Nigerians. Keyamo’s outstanding achievements and breakthroughs in the Aviation and Aerospace Sector speak clearly and eloquently for him in the hearts and minds of the Nigerians, they can now fly without any fear. His sheer hard work and uncompromising audacious allegiance to the country coupled with unwavering patriotism has helped him thus far in endearing him to the minds of Nigerians and the future.

PoliticsThe Lottery Conundrum, Why Federal Government Role Is Crucial. by aguele(op): 11:12am On Nov 16, 2024
By:Mohammed Hamisu

As Nigeria awaits the Supreme Court's verdict on the landmark case of SC 1/2008, the nation holds its breath. At stake is the future of lottery regulation and revenue collection, with far-reaching implications for national development.

The case pits the Attorney General of Lagos State and 21 other states against the Federal Government, sparking intense debate. Proponents of state autonomy argue that lottery regulation should rest with individual states, while federal authorities insist on their constitutional mandate.

The case is a contentious issue that has been argued and awaits judgment from the Supreme Court. At its core, this case revolves around the regulation and revenue collection of lottery activities, with the Attorney General of Lagos State and 21 other states contesting the Federal Government's involvement as unconstitutional.

Proponents of state autonomy argue that lottery regulation should rest with individual states. They claim that since lottery is not explicitly mentioned in either the Exclusive or Concurrent list of the 1999 Constitution, the Federal Government has overstepped its bounds by regulating and collecting revenue from lottery activities. The states assert that this encroachment infringes upon their rights to manage their own affairs.

On the other hand, federal authorities insist on their constitutional mandate. They argue that the National Lottery Regulatory Commission and the National Lottery Trust Fund have sole authority over gambling. The Federal High Court has already ruled in favor of the federal regulator, acknowledging its critical role in ensuring fairness and transparency.

However, experts contend that federal involvement ensures fairness and transparency. "Without federal oversight, lottery operations would become a free-for-all," warns Dr. Emmanuel Akintade, a gaming industry analyst. "This would lead to exploitation and undermine public trust."

The federal government's power over lottery is essential for several reasons, all interconnected to ensure a fair, transparent, and regulated industry.

The federal government's role in standardizing and transparentizing lottery operations protects players and stakeholders from potential exploitation. The National Lottery Regulatory Commission sets standards, guidelines, and rules for lottery operations, promoting fairness and integrity.

The federal government's oversight of lottery activities has yielded substantial revenue, which the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has strategically utilized to support various good causes across Nigeria. This impactful initiative has benefitted numerous communities nationwide, focusing on vital sectors.

The NLTF has made significant contributions to healthcare by providing medical equipment, infrastructure, and services to healthcare facilities, enhancing access to quality healthcare for millions. Additionally, it has developed sports infrastructure, promoted grassroots programs, and supported athletes, fostering a culture of fitness and excellence.

In education, the NLTF has renovated schools, supplied educational materials, and offered scholarships, empowering future generations. Environmental conservation projects have also been implemented, addressing pressing environmental challenges.

Humanitarian assistance has been provided to vulnerable communities, disaster victims, and internally displaced persons. The NLTF's contributions have positively impacted countless lives, demonstrating the lottery's potential to drive meaningful change.

Some notable NLTF-funded projects include construction of healthcare facilities in rural areas, provision of educational resources to disadvantaged schools, implementation of environmental conservation programs, and emergency relief interventions for disaster-affected communities.

Federal oversight also safeguards players' interests, ensuring lottery operators comply with regulations and maintain fair business practices. The National Lottery Regulatory Commission provides a platform for players to report complaints and resolve disputes, preventing illegal lottery operations that undermine the industry's integrity and deprive the government of revenue. The commission collaborates with law enforcement agencies to clamp down on illegal operators.

A centralized regulatory body ensures consistency across states, preventing conflicting regulations and ensuring a level playing field. This coordination facilitates information sharing and best practices among states, aligning Nigeria's lottery industry with international standards. The federal government's guidelines and policies promote transparency, accountability, and fairness.

A well-regulated lottery industry creates jobs and stimulates economic growth. Federal involvement attracts investors and promotes related industries' development. By exercising its power over lottery, the federal government ensures a fair, transparent, and regulated industry benefiting players, stakeholders, and the nation. This is the practice all over the world and Nigeria should not be an exception.

The federal government's lottery revenue funds national development projects, such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The National Lottery Trust Fund supports good causes, including investments in education, health, sports, environment, agriculture and humanitarian. This integrated approach ensures that the lottery industry contributes to Nigeria's overall development.

Ultimately, the federal government's role in lottery regulation strikes a balance between economic growth, player protection, and national development, fostering a thriving industry that benefits all stakeholders.

A Revenue Assurance Platform, as proposed by the Federal Executive Council, would curb corruption and unlicensed operators. A Revenue Assurance Platform offers real-time monitoring and automated reporting, making it more efficient than the usual monitoring systems. This technology enables regulators to track transactions, detect suspicious activities, and prevent revenue leakage. By adopting such a platform, Nigeria can align with international best practices in gaming regulation.

Rather than scrapping the Lottery Commission and Trust Fund, all stakeholders should work together. "A unified approach would facilitate effective regulation, benefiting the industry and stakeholders," says Lagos State Gaming Board CEO, Mr. Bashir Abiola.

The Federal Government's continued involvement would generate jobs and stimulate economic growth.

As Nigerians await Supreme Court judgement, Nigeria's development hangs in the balance. Scrapping the Lottery Commission and Trust Fund would undermine progress and create uncertainty.

Preserving the Lottery Commission and Trust Fund is essential for Nigeria's development as the same Supreme Court panel did in judgement against states on the legality of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission yesterday. I must commend the panel for that judgement which is similar to the lottery one.

Federal authority ensures transparency, revenue generation, and economic growth. As the nation awaits the Supreme Court's verdict, one thing is clear: continuity, not disruption, is the key to a thriving lottery industry.

PoliticsGov Okpebholo Orders Immediate Freezing Of State Bank Accounts by aguele(op): 10:09am On Nov 14, 2024
.......Abolishes Roads and Bridges Ministry, reverts to Ministry of Works

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, on Thursday, ordered the freezing of all State-owned bank accounts with immediate effect, until further notice.

The Governor has also warned commercial banks, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to comply with the order immediately without any delays.

Governor Okpebholo warned that anyone, including heads of MDAs and civil servants who flout the order will be severely punished.

“All bank accounts in all the commercial banks have been frozen. Commercial banks must comply with the order and ensure that not a dime is taken out of the confers of Government until there is a further notice.

“Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies must comply with this order and ensure that there is a full compliance without any further delays.

“After the necessary investigations and reconciliations, the Governor will do the needful and decide on the way forward. For now, this order stands,” the statement read.

In the meantime, the Governor has asked the relevant Government agencies to reverse the Ministry of Roads and Bridges to the Ministry of Works. The reversed infamous name was conceptualised during the administration of Godwin Obaseki.

Governor Okpebholo, said since no bridges or good roads were constructed by the administration of Obaseki, it is therefore absurd to maintain such a name.

The Governor, has therefore ordered relevant government agencies to implement the new order and immediately reflect the new name.

“It is funny how you can call a Government institution Ministry of Roads and Bridges. Ironically, no single bridge was built by the same administration. Not even a pedestrian bridge.

“In the coming days, we will look at more actions taken by the previous administration and more decisions will be taken that will be done in the best interest of the State,” the statement concluded.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday night in Benin, revealed how he won the 21st September governorship election in Edo State.

He attributed it to the grace of God, constant prayers, and the support of Edo people.

Governor Okpebholo gave the testimony at his post swearing-in Thanksgiving Service held at the Samuel Ogbumudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State capital, where he urged Nigerians to trust in God alone irrespective of their challenges in life.

Governor Okpebholo also gave a vivid account on how he found a dead bat on his bed before he was declared the winner of the 21st September Edo State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He remarked: “I want to thank God. In this last election, while I was praising God, they (traducers) were busy operating from television. They were busy operating from social media. They were busy operating from other television stations.

“But, I took the battle to God because I knew the secret. A few days to the election, they said I was crazy. We gathered to praise God in this State. They said, "What is he doing?" They were there on TV. But, I was listening to the voice of God. I won the battle.

“After the election on Sunday morning, I came to my room. I met a bat had died on my bed, without me shooting any arrow. But, the spirit of God was there. The arrow of God; The hand of God delivered me.
“I am grateful to the men of God that stood in the gap. I am grateful to those who believed that with God, all things are possible. And I will give you one advice- trust in God alone because he will do it for you.

The Governor disclosed that he did not consult any native doctor or prophet or visit any diviner or shrine to seek help for help throughout the period of his electioneering.

PoliticsCsos Condemn Call For Sack Of NDDC Management, Passes Vote Of Confidence. by aguele(op): 11:28am On Nov 10, 2024
The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance (CCSO4GG) wishes to respond to the recent threats of protest issued by a group purporting to be the "Coalition of Niger Delta Civil Society Organizations," demanding the sack of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Samuel Ogbuku and Chairman of the Board, Mr Chinese Ebie. This group has raised frivolous and baseless allegations of administrative lapses and legal breaches within the NDDC, all of which are unfounded and lack merit.

Firstly, it is important to note that the so-called "Coalition of Niger Delta Civil Society Organizations" is nothing more than a group of political actors masquerading as civil society organizations. Their true intentions are not to represent the people of the Niger Delta, but rather to undermine the significant progress being made in the region. Their attempt to destabilize the NDDC leadership under Mr. Samuel Ogbuku is a thinly veiled attempt to derail the positive momentum that has been achieved under this administration, which has brought unprecedented development, transparency, and accountability to the region.

Regarding their claims that Mr. Chiedu Ebie’s appointment as NDDC Chairman violates the Niger Delta Development Commission (Establishment Etc.) Act 2000, we categorically reject this assertion. The group has clearly misinterpreted Section 2(2) of the NDDC Establishment Act, which does not in any way invalidate Mr. Ebie's appointment. The Act does not stipulate that the Chairman of the NDDC must come from a specific state or region, and Mr. Ebie’s appointment is both lawful and in line with the relevant provisions of the law. This claim is yet another example of the group’s attempts to sow division and confusion in the region, without any legal or factual basis.

Under the current leadership of the NDDC, significant strides have been made in improving the quality of life for citizens across the nine Niger Delta states – Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Rivers, and Ondo. The NDDC has prioritized the equitable distribution of contracts and development projects, ensuring that all states benefit fairly from the Commission’s interventions. From infrastructure projects to skill development programs, the current leadership has shown a commitment to uplifting the people of the Niger Delta, regardless of political affiliation or geographical location.

Furthermore, the NDDC has also demonstrated a commitment to fairness and transparency in the allocation of scholarship opportunities, ensuring that deserving students from across the region have access to educational support to further their careers. These achievements speak volumes about the leadership’s commitment to the development of the Niger Delta.

In light of these remarkable accomplishments, we, the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance, hereby pass a vote of confidence in the leadership of the NDDC, under the able stewardship of Mr. Samuel Ogbuku. We call on President Bola Tinubu to disregard the unfounded demands for their sack and to continue to support the ongoing efforts of the NDDC to bring development and prosperity to the Niger Delta region.

We urge the public to see through the distractions created by political actors who are only interested in sabotaging the progress being made in the region. The people of the Niger Delta deserve leaders who are committed to their welfare, and we firmly believe that the current NDDC leadership is dedicated to ensuring the long-term development of the region.

Group ask Tinubu to Ignore Calls for IGP Egbetokun's Removal, says Call Unpatriotic.

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance has strongly condemned the recent calls for the removal of Mr. Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by some groups, including a faceless group claiming to represent the Association of Serving and Retired Senior Police Officers and a group of unnamed newspaper editors.

The coalition in a statement, issued in Lagos and jointly signed by Comrade Olalekan Johnson, Secretary and Jude Ochiaga Publicity Secretary, said the calls are nothing more than a desperate attempt by certain politicians to undermine the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly following the controversial local government elections in Rivers State. It said the so-called association and unnamed editors are merely creations of these politicians, seeking to manipulate the police for their own selfish gains.

"Mr. Kayode Egbetokun has demonstrated exemplary leadership throughout his career, rising through the ranks based on a track record of outstanding performance and professionalism. His dedication to service has been evident from his entry into the force to his current role as IGP. Under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Force has experienced significant reforms aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and restoring public confidence." the statement further said.

"We reaffirm the confidence of the Nigerian people, as well as the men and women of the Nigeria Police Force, in the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The various reforms and initiatives introduced under his stewardship have been vital in strengthening national security and upholding the rule of law."

The group also urge President Bola Tinubu to disregard the calls for Mr. Egbetokun's removal, describing such as unpatriotic, saying such actions not only threaten national security but also seek to disrupt the rule of law in Nigeria.

"The Coalition hereby passes a vote of confidence in Mr. Kayode Egbetokun and encourages all Nigerians to continue supporting the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force under his guidance. Together, we must prioritize the stability and security of our nation above all else." the statement concluded.

NATIONAL LOTTERY TRUST FUND TO EMPOWER NIGERIAN YOUTHS THROUGH RENEWABLE ENERGY

The National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) is seeking to equip vulnerable Nigerian youths with skills in renewable energy to complement President Bola Tinubu’s effort to provide employment and unprecedented electricity.

The Executive Secretary, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju during his visit to the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adekola Adelabu announced NLTF's plan to introduce a model teaching 1KVA solar panel production, benefiting rural youths. "This initiative requires collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power to help the poor and vulnerable without access to electricity."

“We have never seen this improvement in electricity like this administration since 1999 and since our agency is created to promote GOOD CAUSES across the nation with the percentage of remittances that comes to the government from gaming company, we are seeking for partnership on how to create skills for Nigerian youths through renewable energy.

“the National Lottery Trust Fund is set to improve lives of the downtrodden by giving them training that will equip youths with skills to produce 1KVA solar power that can power phone charging center, Barber shops, farm product preservations among others.”

In response, Minister of Power Adebayo Adekola Adelabu commended the Executive Secretary’s commitment. "I'm happy your focus is on the vulnerable, especially in rural areas, which aligns with our goal to reduce the 42% of Nigerians without access to good electricity."

Adelabu emphasized the importance of empowering rural youths. "Your concentration on youth development is significant, as some rural youths lack opportunities to grow. This initiative will greatly aid their growth. We are ready to collaborate with you, we are glad you don’t want to do this alone.”

NLTF's program aligns with the Federal Ministry of Power's vision to improve off-grid electricity in rural areas. This initiative promises to empower rural youths, promoting economic growth and energy accessibility.

By Toby Prince

Wednesday, October 2nd, dawned bright, like a canvas waiting for the brushstrokes of history. The National Assembly, fresh from the country's 64th Independence Day celebrations, hummed with anticipation.

In the office of the Deputy Spokesman. Hon. Philip Agbese, the air vibrated with purpose. The Enone Servant, renowned for his open-door policy, had transformed the Media and Public Affairs secretariat into an extension of his office, a hub of ideas and collaboration.

As President Bola Tinubu's broadcast still resonated, Agbese prepared to challenge the status quo. With laser-like focus, he bypassed the throngs of guests and made his way to the Chamber. Okanga, as he's affectionately known, was on a mission to reshape the legislative landscape.

Back in the office, staff awaited their boss, oblivious to the seismic shift unfolding. Then, like a spark igniting a flame, calls began pouring in. "Your principal has raised a motion of urgent importance!" journalists exclaimed.

Staffers' eyes locked onto mobile gadgets, witnessing Agbese's masterstroke. The fearless Enone Servant had unleashed a "positive tsunami" within the hallowed halls. His motion sought the abolition of outdated "upper chamber" and "lower chamber" labels in the National Assembly, emphasizing that members are not inferior to Senators.

This historic move would correct the historical injustice that had diminished the House of Representatives. By promoting equality between the two chambers, Agbese's motion aimed to reinforce the constitutional principle of balance and harmony in the legislative environment.

Consequently, he urged that the Speaker's national honour be upgraded from Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) to Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), mirroring the Senate President's honour.

As news spread like wildfire, the office and secretariat pulsed with electricity. Agbese's aides exchanged knowing glances, aware they were witnessing history. The Enone Servant had struck again, etching his name alongside Nigeria's legislative giants. The President, moved by Agbese's impassioned plea and the collective voice of his colleagues, heeded the call for change. This landmark decision corrected the errors of past administrations, setting the nation on the path of progress.

Agbese's motion marked a watershed moment for the National Assembly, ushering in an era of enhanced collaboration and cooperation between the House and Senate. By eliminating the inferiority complex associated with the "lower chamber" label, House members would experience a surge in morale, confidence, and effectiveness.

This seismic shift would reverberate across the nation, as a more robust National Assembly translates to greater accountability, transparency, and responsiveness to citizens' needs. Nigeria's democracy would emerge stronger, with Agbese's visionary leadership inspiring a new generation of leaders.

With almost 300 members supporting the motion, the Enone Chief Servant’s leadership united the House across party lines. This resounding endorsement solidified his reputation as a champion of equality, justice, and democratic advancement.

But this is not an isolated case for those who know Agbese. Like a prophet of old, he has heeded the call to serve, guiding his constituents through the labyrinthine complexities of Nigeria's governance. With unusual dedication, he has championed bills and motions aimed at empowering the marginalized, promoting economic growth, and fostering unity.

His legislative sagacity is matched only by his compassion and empathy. Agbese has walked among his people, listening to their heartfelt cries, and channelling their concerns into actionable policies. He has bridged the gap between the government and the governed, ensuring that Enone's voice is heard loud and clear in the corridors of power.

Agbese has fought tirelessly for improved access to quality learning, recognizing that knowledge is the bedrock of progress. His advocacy for infrastructure development, welfare of constituents and better healthcare has yielded tangible results, with ongoing projects transforming the landscape of Enone into a haven of opportunity.

Agbese's unwavering commitment to equality and justice has earned him recognition as a champion of the people. His legislative sagacity and diplomatic finesse have navigated complex issues, fostering unity and cooperation within the National Assembly.

Enone, honour your Servant! Philip Agbese's selfless service deserves recognition and celebration. Let his exemplary leadership inspire a new wave of patriotism and civic engagement. It is time to rally behind this champion, supporting his vision for a brighter future. It is time to acknowledge the sacrifices he is making, the late nights and early mornings spent crafting legislation, the countless meetings with stakeholders, and the unwavering resolve to make a difference.

Let us stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Agbese, fortifying his resolve and amplifying his voice. Let us encourage him, pray for him, and celebrate his victories. Philip Agbese is more than a lawmaker; he is a beacon of hope, a shining example of what it means to serve with integrity, humility, and compassion. Enone, honour your son, and in doing so, you honour yourselves.

For in the words of the wise, "A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country." It is time to prove the exception, not the rule. As the dust settles on this epoch-making moment, let us celebrate this visionary young man and ensure that his legacy endures for generations to come.

PoliticsNycn Kwara Chapter: Attempts To Turn The Constitution On Its Head, Led By Presi by aguele(op): 8:26am On Oct 03, 2024
NYCN KWARA CHAPTER: ATTEMPTS TO TURN THE CONSTITUTION ON ITS HEAD, LED BY PRESIDENT SOKUBO, DISHEARTENING – AMB. AKOSHILE MUKHTAR

In a statement, made available to the press, the Vice President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) for the North Central Zone, Ambassador Akoshile Mukhtar, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as an attempt to turn the spirit and letter of the NYCN constitution on its head. The ploy, allegedly led by the NYCN National President, Sokubo Sara-Igbe Sokubo, has sparked tension, especially in Kwara State, which Mukhtar oversees.

Ambassador Mukhtar expressed his dismay at Sokubo’s actions, stating, “It is disheartening to witness the president of the NYCN undermining the very structure that upholds the council’s democratic integrity. The emergence of several splinter groups claiming to represent Nigerian youth is not only alarming but also a sign that the president and his close associates may not be fully grasping the memo being sent by these factions.”

He emphasized that the NYCN operates on a bottom-up structure, with the national leadership deriving its existence from the grassroots. “The NYCN is an organization built from the bottom up, where even national executives must belong to an affiliate organization at the grassroots level. For the president of the NYCN to begin to approbate and reprobate, dissolving and reinstating state executives, even though the state Congress is the body that elects its own executives, Is strange to both law and common sense,” Mukhtar added.

Ambassador Mukhtar’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the leadership crisis in Kwara State, where stakeholders have repeatedly called for a change in leadership, following the expiration of the tenure of the former state chairman. He pointed out that the tenure of the Nasiru Alli-led executive in Kwara State has expired since last year, and the continued hold on leadership by the outgoing executives has stifled the state’s youth council.

“It is on record that Nasiru Alli’s tenure has elapsed, and the NYCN Kwara State is in desperate need of a breath of fresh air. This is a position shared by key stakeholders in the council within the state. The attempts to prolong the expired tenure of the Nasiru Alli-led executive must be stopped. We warn President Sokubo not to play politics with the Kwara youths and allow a proper and transparent process to take place,” Mukhtar warned.

The vice president's statement signals a growing rift within the youth constituency in Nigeria, as various groups have emerged purporting to represent Nigerian youth under different names, against the position of the NYCN as the premier youth body in Nigeria. Many young people accuse the national president of violating the organization’s constitution by unilaterally dissolving state executives and attempting to manipulate the leadership structure in several states.

“This attempt to distort the democratic process within the NYCN is a dangerous precedent, and we must stand firm in upholding the values and principles enshrined in the constitution. The council’s strength lies in its grassroots foundation, and any effort to undermine that foundation risks alienating the very youths we are meant to represent,” Ambassador Mukhtar concluded.

The ongoing tension within the NYCN, particularly in Kwara State, is expected to reach a critical point in the coming weeks as youth leaders push for fresh elections and a return to constitutional norms. All eyes are on President Sokubo to see how he addresses these growing concerns and whether he will heed the calls to respect the council’s democratic process.
