Politics / Lawan Andimi: Buhari Says Boko Haram Will Pay A Heavy Price For His Death by ahmedkoded95(m): 11:28pm On Jan 21, 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killing of Reverend Lawan Andimi by Boko Haram terrorists.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, the President described the murder of the clergyman as inhuman and vowed to ensure the insurgents pay dearly for their actions.

He said, “The terrorist killing of Lawan Andimi, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Michika, Adamawa State is cruel, inhuman and deliberately provocative.

“This barbarism is condemnable. We will ensure that these terrorists pay a heavy price for their evil actions.”

Reverend Andimi, who was abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in early January, was the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

He was murdered by his captors on Monday, despite calls for his release by various groups, including the national leadership of the Christian body.

In his reaction, President Buhari decried the killing of the clergyman amid indications that the insurgents were going to release him.

He, however, condoled with the family of the slain reverend, the Christian community across the country, as well as the government and people of Adamawa State.

“I am greatly saddened by the fact that the terrorists went on to kill him even while giving signals of a willingness to set him free by releasing him to third parties.

“This incident has further strengthened our resolve as a government, and the resolve of our gallant Armed Forces, to comprehensively defeat all terrorist groups sowing death, violence, and destruction in our country and across West Africa,” the President said.

Crime / Teenager, Eight Others Docked Over ‘Cultism’ In Lagos by ahmedkoded95(m): 1:08pm On Jan 21, 2020
The police in Lagos have arraigned a teenager and eight others who allegedly carried out cult activities and caused residents of Ogbomo community in Ajah, to flee their homes.

The police arraigned Joseph Tobi, 18: Malik Kadejo, 22; Samuel Owolabi, 25; Oguntuyo Semiu, 31; Gbenga Afeez, 20; Taiwo Sulaimon, 25; Odetunde Ismail, 25; Oluwaseun Oyebamire, 20, and Idris Oyekola, 27.

The defendant appeared on a three-count charge of conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society and breach of the peace.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendants committed the offences at 11:30p.m. on Dec. 28, 2018, at Ogbomo Town, Ajah, Lagos.

According to him, a member of Baale-in-council of Ogbomo reported to the police that a group suspected to be members of Aiye cult were disturbing the community and committing different crimes.

He said that many residents fled their homes because of the suspects and their activities.

“My lord, the informant told the police where and when they (suspected cultists) would have their next meeting.

“A raid was executed and the defendants were arrested in the middle of their cult meeting, chanting war songs around a bonfire,” Oriabure said.

The alleged offences contravene sections 42, 168 (d) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Newsmen report that Section 42 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for membership of an unlawful society while Section 411 provides for two years jail term for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, Mrs S.O. Obasa, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Obasa ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Crime / Buhari: It Would Have Been Major Blow If APC Lost Kano, Plateau by ahmedkoded95(m): 12:39pm On Jan 21, 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said it would been disastrous for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, if it had lost the politically strategic states, of Kano and Plateau at the Supreme Court.

President Buhari stated this in his congratulatory message to the APC over the Supreme Court judgement that upheld the elections of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano State and Governor Simon Lalong, Plateau State.

The President felicitated with APC National Executive Council, National Working Committee and all members for the loyalty and consistency that translated into many victories, particularly the politically strategic states, Kano and Plateau, after tough legal challenges.

Buhari said: “I am glad this tortuous journey has ended in favour of the party and our governors. APC won the states and has proved it in court. It would have been a major blow if strategically important states like Kano and Plateau are lost.”

While congratulating all the APC governors that the Supreme Court affirmed their elections, President Buhari urged electorates and politicians to strengthen the country’s judicial processes by always seeking redress in court.

“It has now become standard procedure for the opposition to challenge any poll or judgement that does not return its candidates.

“Election is good when they win. The opposite is the case if someone else emerges. But that is not the way it works. Democracy is not only about who wins or who loses, but also about the process.

“In disparaging every unfavourable result or judgement, they disparage the entire system,” Buhari in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Politics / Amotekun: Prof Sagay Declares Security Outfit Legal by ahmedkoded95(m): 12:39am On Jan 16, 2020
Chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay, has declared the establishment of Operation Amotekun by Southwest governors as legal and in line with their constitutional role as chief security officers of their states.

His position opposed that of the Justice Minister and Attorney-general of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who declared the security outfit illegal.

Governors from Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, and Lagos States last week Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital launched a security outfit called Amotekun.

Sagay in an interview with The Nation said the Police lacked adequate manpower to effectively secure a country of nearly 200 million people, hence the establishment of Amotekun was in order.

“I am positively disposed towards it. I think it is a good beginning not to depend completely on the Federal Government for our security.

“We should begin to rely more and more on ourselves so that those who feel the pain are those who try to take control of the security situation.

“We know that the Police are few; they are stretched; we have about 250,000 policemen in a country of almost 200 million. So, I think these regional security institutions are necessary.

“I believe the police should cooperate with them and help with their training. And I believe eventually, they should even be armed so that we can have a lot more hands and local people involved in security.

“Perhaps that can lead to other benefits, such as economic cooperation and wealth creation; and gradually, we’ll begin to regain what we lost when we lost the regions in the 60s. So, yes, I support it.

“It’s not state police. I think the people who created it have been careful. Yes, there is a security outfit, but there is nothing in the Constitution that precludes either states or association of states from taking care of their security.

“There is this popular saying that the governor is the chief security officer of a state. That’s not an empty statement.

“They get a lot of money for security, and I look at this as part of the responsibility of the governors acting jointly to provide greater security in the Southwest.”

Foreign Affairs / Iran 'offers $80million Bounty For Donald Trump's Head' After Death Of General by ahmedkoded95(m): 2:45am On Jan 06, 2020
An $80million bounty has been placed on Donald Trump's head in the wake of General Qasem Soleimani's assasination, according to reports.

During the televised funeral of the top Iranian, official state broadcasters said one US dollar would be tabled for every Iranian in the country, with the cash going to whoever killed the US President.

“Iran has 80 million inhabitants. Based on the Iranian population, we want to raise $80million (£61million) which is a reward for those who get close to the head of President Trump,” it was announced, according to en24.

Soleimani, Iran's preeminent military commander, was killed on Friday in a US drone strike on his convoy at Baghdad airport.

The attack took long-running hostilities between Washington and Tehran into uncharted territory and raised the spectre of wider conflict in the Middle East.

Earlier today Iranian MP Abolfazl Aboutorabi threatened to attack the heart of American politics.

“We can attack the White House itself, we can respond to them on the American soil, he said according to the Iranian Labour News Agency.

"We have the power, and God willing we will respond in an appropriate time."

He went on to say that “this is a declaration of war, which means if you hesitate you lose.

“When someone declares war, do you want to respond to the bullets with flowers? They will shoot you in the head.”

During an open session of parliament in Tehran this afternoon President Trump was called a "terrorist in a suit" after he threatened to hit 52 Iranian sites hard if Tehran attacks Americans or U.S. assets.

Soleimani was the architect of Tehran's clandestine and military operations abroad as head of the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei promised on Friday that Iran would seek harsh revenge for his death.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that if there were further Iranian attacks on U.S. targets, Washington would respond with lawful strikes against decision-makers orchestrating such attacks.

"The intelligence assessment made clear that no action - allowing Soleimani to continue his plotting and his planning, his terror campaign - created more risk than taking the action that we took last week," Pompeo said on ABC's "This Week" show.

The move to kill Soleimani has not been met with universal enthusiasm by Demoracts.

Nancy Pelosi, House speaker, criticised the manner in which the decision was taken.

She said: “This initiation of hostilities was taken without an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against Iran, without the consultation of the Congress and without the articulation of a clear and legitimate strategy to either the Congress or the public."

Politics / ANN's Akeem Amosun Defects, Leads Supporters To PDP by ahmedkoded95(m): 2:45pm On Dec 06, 2019
Over three thousand members of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) in Ogun State have defected to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), ahead of the Local Government elections expected to be conducted in the state next year and subsequent general elections in 2023.

The defectors led by the House of Representatives candidate of the ANN for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Akeem Amosun, in the last general elections, said that they elected to move to PDP to form a vibrant and formidable opposition in the Gateway State.

The former ANN members were received into PDP family on Thursday evening by former House of Representatives member; Hon. Ladi Adebutu and PDP chieftain, Sikurullai Ogundele.

Akeem Amosun told reporters that the decision to moving from ANN to PDP would help him realize his political aspiration.

Adebutu welcomed the defectors, saying that the coalition became necessary as recent elections held in the country are being militarized.

He said: “Our opponents are wicked, therefore, we need to be united. The nature of elections as seen throughout the federation are now being militarized brazenly.

“The forthcoming elections can only be won by landslide, therefore, I urge all parties to stand united and coalesce as one body so that when they come with their thugs from Lagos we shall resist them.

“The APC government in the state lack competence and compassion. They can’t do anything without getting approval from Lagos. Ogun State is not Lagos subsidiary.

“We are on a mission to rescue our state from incompetence, lack of compassion of APC government.”

Crime / We Didn’t Kill Policemen In Anambra - IPOB Insists by ahmedkoded95(m): 4:43pm On Dec 03, 2019
The Indigenous People of Biafra has denied alleged attack and killing of two policemen in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area on Monday.

The group’s spokesman, Emma Powerful said the allegations by the Police in Anambra that it killed two of its men when they visited the house of their leader’s lawyer, Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor’s home was a lie.

The group, on the contrary, said it was the police that killed three members of the IPOB and took away their corpses to conceal the act.

A press statement by Emma Powerful exonerated the group from the alleged attacks, insisting that it was the police who set the home of Ejiofor on fire, while one of its trucks was also gutted because the police handled the fuel used in setting the house on fire carelessly.

Part of the release read, “The unprovoked Nigeria police and army invasion of the home of our lawyer Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor barely four days after the painful burial of his senior brother is proof that those running Nigeria have descended into the abyss of iniquity from which they may never recover.

“Not even during the darkest days of Abacha’s dictatorship did anyone witness such brazen intimidation of a legal counsel or the attempted assassination of a defense counsel in a high profile case.

“For the police to say there was a criminal complaint against Barrister Ejiofor bothering on assault and kidnapping four days after the funeral of his brother is most stupid and laughable. A criminal complaint from who? Who did he kidnap, the body of his dead brother?” The group queried.

The statement further stated, “The only reason for this unprovoked criminal invasion with deadly intent is to kill Barrister Ejiofor and to stop him from attending Federal High Court Abuja next month where he has all but defeated the Attorney General in the matter of Federal Government of Nigeria versus IPOB.

“It is the same strategy of ‘invade and kill’ doctrine that was deployed at Isiama-Afaraukwu the home of our leader on 14 September 2017 a month before he is due in court that is played out in Oraifite yesterday.

“The truth remains that Nigeria Police and Army went to the home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor with the sole purpose of killing him before next month’s court date as is now their tradition.

“On getting there they opened fire on unarmed civilians as usual and the two men that came out of the house were shot dead instantly. The police carried their dead and dying bodies into their van to conceal evidence and drove off. These are facts backed by evidence Anambra Police cannot deny.

“After killing two unarmed and innocent civilians, before they left the police doused Barrister Ejiofor’s home with petrol and set it on fire. This was the reality yesterday in Oraifite Anambra State. It was the carelessness of the police in handling the petrol they used to drench Barrister Ejiofor’s home and nearby businesses before setting them on fire that trailed back and led to the fire that gutted their van.

“It is on record that IPOB remains a peaceful movement, therefore, this latest desperate attempt by this lying Fulani controlled Nigeria Police to equate our activities with their home-grown Miyetti Allah (Fulani herdsmen) terrorist organization is a waste of time.”

Politics / Senate Kicks As Buhari Submits NDDC’s Budget by ahmedkoded95(m): 12:23pm On Nov 26, 2019
There was drama on Tuesday following the presentation of the 2019/2020 budget of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan read President Buhari’s letter during plenary.

However, Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, coming under order 43 of the Senate Standing Orders on personal explanation, drew the Senate’s attention to the fact that the members of the governing board of the agency recently cleared by the Senate are yet to be sworn-in.

Abaribe wondered who will appear before the relevant committees of the Senate to defend the proposals.

Abaribe said: “We just heard from you (Senate President) the communication from Mr President which relates to the presentation of the NDDC’s Budget for approval.

“Of course, what it will mean is that the budget will go to the relevant committee of Appropriation and the NDDC Committee and some persons will come to defend the budget.

“Having regard to the fact that this Senate has confirmed members of the board of the NDDC and they are yet to resume office, Mr. President I fear that we may run into a problem of delayed budget again since nobody will come to defend this budget.

“Because this August body having confirmed the board of NDDC, will not countenance any illegal contraption coming in front of us to say they are representing the NDDC.

“I know that this may be preemptive, but my people say that if we act quick we will prevent disaster from coming.

“So, to prevent a delayed budget for the NDDC, that is helping the region for development, it would be better for us to prevent this issue from coming and let the needful be done.”

Lawan sustained Abaribe’s point of order and urged the executive to do the right thing so that the right persons can come and defend the NDDC’s Budget.

Lawan said: “Thank you Minority Leader but because you have come under order 43, this motion is not subject to debate but let me sustain your point of order.

“As far as we are concerned this Senate knows that we have confirmed the request of Mr. President for the board membership of the NDDC and we have communicated that and the next logical thing to do by law is for the appointments of the members of the board to take immediate effect.

“I believe that the executive arm of government will attend to that quickly so that we have the right people to come and defend the Appropriation request of Mr. President.”

Politics / No African Country Is Silent On Racism, Xenophobia — UNGA President by ahmedkoded95(m): 12:32pm On Nov 23, 2019
Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) says no African country is silent on racism and xenophobia, as all nations on the continent condemned such actions.

He said this in a special interview with NAN in Abuja, during his first official visit to the country as President of the General Assembly.

He affirmed that racism, xenophobia and resurgent nationalism and tendencies toward protectionism in Africa and other parts of the world were threats to multilateralism.

According to him, no country or community is self-sufficient, hence the need to strife for peace, and unity, and going forward requires collective efforts toward addressing the challenges and concerns of the continent.

He noted that “fortunately, the issue between South Africa and other African countries has been successfully resolved, with the presidents of South Africa and Nigeria urging citizens to embrace peace.

“All African countries condemned racism, no African country is silent on racism, after all, the struggle against apartheid was not a South African struggle.

He added that the first positive development contained in the document was recognising migration as a positive thing, noting however that the act could have negative results when carried out irregularly and through dangerous and deadly routes.

The UNGA president, who noted that the adoption of the Global Compact on Migration was a hard negotiation for stakeholders, added that it would be an opportunity to see how well it would be implemented.

He said that the document would be reviewed after four years to assess the successes and challenges.

He explained that “the fact that there is a compact is because there is a problem and the way to deal with a problem is to collectively see whether there is a way to address it.”

The UNGA President arrived in Abuja on Nov. 21 on a four-day official visit.

Politics / Blessing Agbomhere, Others Resign From PDP In Edo by ahmedkoded95(m): 5:37pm On Nov 21, 2019
A former candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for Etsako Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, Chief Blessing Agbomhere, has led his supporters to resign from the party.

Chief Agbomhere hails from Estako Central local government where State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, hails from.

Agbomhere, in his letter of resignation, said politics was a serious business that requires serious minded individuals with the commitment and passion to win, and continue to win for the people.

He said his interest in politics was to be in a position to help his people and the society.

According to him, “Politics cannot be done by those who are not interested winning and in taking power. When the spirit, commitment and zeal to win disappear, failure becomes habitual and perpetual.

“If we like politics, let’s do politics by winning. If we are not ready to win, let’s quit politics, so that those who are interested in winning can be supported to do politics. Politics is meant to be done and won to affect the lives of the people. And so, politics of failure does no good to those who do it and those who will be affected by such failure.

“Since the race for victory and success has no finish line, I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party to pursue my interest in promoting good governance, youth and women empowerment and community development.”

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Zuba, Abuja on Tuesday admitted two discs from a CCTV footage and Certificate of Compliance as evidence in the trial of Sen. Elisha Abbo.

The police charged Abbo on July 8 for criminal force and assault which is contrary to section 263 and 264 of penal code law.

Magistrate Abdullahi Illelah held that the documents tendered were relevant and admissible in evidence.

”It is left to the court to determine if a particular document or exhibit tendered before it complies with the requirement of the law or not.

”The court hereby admits the statements of Sen. Elisha Abbo and medical report which the nominal complainant obtained from Mega EyeSight as exhibits in the trial,” he held.

Illelah adjourned the matter until January 9, 2020, for the continuation of hearing while the bail granted to Abbo continues on the same terms and conditions.

Earlier, the prosecution witness, Mr James Idachaba tendered the exhibits through the second prosecution witness Assistant Superintendent of Police Mary Daniel.

The witness told the court that she was attached to the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Police Command and was the Investigating Police Officer in the case against the defendant (Sen. Abbo).

Daniel alleged that on May 14, the case criminal force and assault contrary to section 262, 263 and 264 of the Penal Code Law was reported at Maitama Divisional Station by the nominal complainant Ms Anyata Wormate.

She added that the case was transferred to the FCT Police Command and it was assigned to her to investigate, subsequently she went to the scene of the crime at Pleasure Chest Shop, FA45, Banex Plaza.

According to her, the shop was then locked and one Mr Onyekachi Chukwu told me that the owner of the shop travelled out of Abuja.

“On July 3, the invitation letter was sent to the nominal complainant and the defendant through the Clerk of the National Assembly.

“On July 4, the voluntary explanatory statement was obtained from the nominal complainant and the defendant also provides his statement under caution and later the defendant was later granted bail on the same day,’’ she said.

The witness told the court that the nominal complainant brought CCTV footage discs with a certificate of compliance and forensic analysis could not be obtained because the camera where the video was extracted was with one Kemi.

Daniel added that all efforts to get across to Kemi (a salesgirl in the shop where the incidence happened) proved abortive.

The witness said that she also went back to Maitama Divisional Police office to obtain the statement of Mrs Alaba Udeme the mother of the nominal complainant.

She added that she went to the mega eyesight to confirm whether or not the nominal complainant was treated there, and the clinic confirmed to the witness that the complainant was treated there.

The Defense counsel Mr Adegbite Adeniyi objects to the admissibility of the discs, medical certificate from mega eyesight when the prosecution counsel (Idachaba) attempted to tender the documents.

Adeniyi told the court that the medical report certificate sought to be tendered did not comply with the provision of section 257 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

He added that the CCTV footage discs also did not comply with the provisions of section 84 sub B and 84 sub 5 (A) of the Evidence Act.

In his response, the prosecution counsel urged the court to discountenance the objection of the defense stressing that the objections were misconceived because the witness was not the maker the documents.
