PoliticsKaduna Election: PDP Loses To Governor El-rufai At Tribunal by ahmedkoded95(op): 4:02pm On May 28, 2019
The Kaduna Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Tuesday struck out the motion of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking for recount of votes cast in the governorship elections in the state, for lack of merit.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Ibrahim Bako, while ruling on the motion, said the tribunal has a timeline of only 180 days within which to complete its assignment and would not accommodate the motion seeking for the recount of the votes.

The tribunal also refused the application for amendment of the motion that sought to narrow the votes recount exercise to only 12 local government areas of the state.

Newsmen recalled that the motion was brought before the tribunal by the PDP and its governorship candidate in the March 9 election, Alhaji Isa Ashiru.

Counsel to both PDP and Ashiru, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) had on May 25, applied to for the amendment of the motion for the votes recounts to be done in Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi, Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Zaria, Sabon Gari, Makarfi, Kudan, Kubau, Soba and Ikara local government areas, mostly won by the APC.

However, the Tribunal chairman, ruled that the motion be struck out, thus ending the pre-hearing session of the petition.

He then adjourned to June 15 to begin hearing in the main petition filed by the PDP and Ashiru.

Meanwhile Counsel to Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, that of the All Progressives Congress’, Lawal Bawa and Aliyu Umar of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who had objected to the motion, said they were happy with the ruling.

They said the verdict was a reflection of the position of the law and commended the tribunal for ruling in their favor.

The counsel told newsmen in separate interviews at the end of the sitting that they were ready for the hearing in the main suit scheduled to begin on June 15.

Mustapha, the counsel to El-Rufai, said that they were ready to defend the re-election of the Governor in the 2019 poll, insisting that the mandate was genuinely given to the governor by the majority of voters in the state.

According to him, the defense would provide all needed documents and evidence to defend the mandate given to El-Rufai before the Tribunal.

Meanwhile, Elisha Kura, Counsel to the PDP, told newsmen that the party would challenge the tribunal’s ruling in the Appeal Court even as the tribunal begins hearing the main petition.

“We are going to study the ruling and we have already have perception about the case, but it has to be challenged.

“For the Tribunal to say that it has no powers to order for a ballot recount is strange because other Tribunals had done it before.

“For them to assume that there is no place in the Electoral Act that there is no specific provision that talks about the recount is strange,“ Kura said.

The counsel said while the party would continue with its petition, it would seek further interpretation of the ruling of the tribunal against the motion for the recount of votes at the Court of Appeal.

PoliticsWho Is Afraid Of Atiku Abubakar? - By Femi Aribisala by ahmedkoded95(op): 3:54pm On May 28, 2019
These are very interesting times in Nigeria. The APC government has reportedly won a major election, but it is finding it difficult, if not impossible, to celebrate and enjoy its victory. Before the champagne could be uncorked, Atiku Abubakar filed a case in court challenging the result, claiming it was fraudulent from start to finish.

But this was a challenge unlike any other that Nigeria has seen before. Out of the blue, Atiku produced another set of results different from the one declared by INEC showing that he had actually won the election. Except that this other result also came from INEC. As a matter of fact, it was retrieved from the INEC server and it was authenticated by serial numbers unique to INEC.

Since Atiku delivered this bombshell, both the APC government and INEC have been at a loss for words. With every excuse they tried to give, Atiku had an answer. With all the facts apparently at Atiku’s disposal, I daresay if he cannot overturn this presidential election at the courts, then no presidential election can be overturn in Nigeria.

In very short order, Atiku has become the worst nightmare of this government. The new government is supposed to be sworn in on May 29. But what is the point of swearing in a new government when it is not clear if it will survive the next few weeks. How can you invite a foreign president to your highfalutin inauguration in May when his ambassador in Abuja tells him you might be kicked out by August?

The question before then before the APC is: “How do you get Atiku to go away?” How can you get him to disappear? You cannot write him a big fat cheque in the usual Nigerian way because Atiku is a man of means whose silence cannot be bought. One approach then is to attack his business interests in Nigeria.

In May 2019, the government decided to terminate the contract between the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Atiku’s Intels company in the handling of oil and gas cargoes in the country. The government suddenly discovered that the contract, which had been in operation for 17 years, was “illegal.”

Treasonable felony and conspiracy

How do you get rid of Atiku Abubakar? One APC playbook says: “Accuse him of treasonable felony and conspiracy.” Try him in a kangaroo court; lock him up and throw away the key.

Lai Mohammed accused Atiku of hiring a U.S. lobby firm to persuade the United States not to recognize Buhari’s re-election. Said Mohammed: “The hiring of US lobbyists has triggered questions about what Alhaji Abubakar is up to.”

What else could Atiku be up to beside trying to retrieve his stolen mandate? Although Atiku vigorously denied hiring such lobbyists, one wonders what law their hiring would have contravened. If the APC government is afraid that the U.S. government can be persuaded that Atiku’s challenge has merit, it must be because APC knows Atiku’s case is persuasive.

Mohammed continued: “There is no doubt that the PDP presidential candidate, out of desperation, is thinking of replicating the Venezuelan model right here in Nigeria.”

This is an unfortunate slip of tongue by the honorable minister. The Venezuelan model is one of a rigged election by the government followed by widespread international recognition of the opposition as the legitimate government. If the APC is afraid this can be replicated in Nigeria, it can only be because it knows the president’s re-election is invalid.

Mohammed then came up with the bogus claim that Atiku and the PDP are planning to foment trouble in Nigeria. He said: “Our interventions are based on credible evidence, and no government with the kind of evidence that we have, of plans to subvert the power of the state, attack the nation’s economic life wire, and generally unleash mayhem on the polity, will keep quiet.”

If this were true, then the government should simply arrest and prosecute the perpetrators. But instead, Mohammed merely cried wolf. He offered not a single shred of evidence to back up his fabricated allegations.

Fire and brimstone

How quickly they forget. The same Lai Mohammed falsely accusing Atiku of treason in 2019 is the same Lai Mohammed that threatened treasonable felony in 2014. As the then official spokesman for the APC, he said: “Let us remind the presidency, in case it has forgotten, that election fraud triggered a civil war in Algeria in the early 1990s, led to the killing of over 1,000 people in post-election riots in Kenya in 2007/2008 and fired a near revolution in Iran in 2009/2010.”

What then, we should ask the honourable minister, should election fraud in Nigeria in 2019 trigger? This is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Atiku’s mandate was blatantly stolen, nevertheless, he has not even mobilized any demonstrations. Compare that with Buhari’s stance in 2011. As the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Buhari told his supporters in Hausa: “First, you must register, come out and vote. You guard, protect, escort to the collation center and you wait until the result is counted. Anyone who stops you, kill them.”

When he lost that election, some one million people were killed in demonstrations in the North. In 2015, Buhari repeated the same threats of violence and mayhem. He said: “If what happened in 2011 should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood.’’

Coup plotters

How do you get rid of Atiku Abubakar? Another playbook says: “Accuse him of trying to instigate a coup d’etat by the military.

Going by the coup playbook, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), dissociated itself from a bogus document claimed to have been written by a faceless group calling for the overthrow of the Buhari government and the setting up of an interim government. The Department of State Services (DSS) also came out severely warning those it claimed are determined to truncate Nigerian democracy.

But the question needs to be asked: how can any group overthrow a government that has just won an election by landslide? What happened to the new and improved 4 million APC majority at the polls? Is that not more than sufficient as a safeguard against illegal overthrow?

The fact of the matter is that the nervousness of the government about the possibility of revolutionary overthrow on the very eve of a “famous” victory at the polls is eloquent testimony that the so-called victory is infamous and pure fiction. Only fools conduct coups against popular governments. If Nigerian the government is running scared, it is because it lacks popular support.

There is one curious example of this in Nigerian history. In 1983, President Shehu Shagari and the NPN won a so-called landslide victory at the polls. Everyone knew this landslide was fiction. Therefore, nobody complained when, just a few months afterwards, the government was overthrown in a military coup. Paradoxically, the leader of that coup was none other than Nigeria’s current president: General Muhammadu Buhari.

The past has a tendency to haunt our future.

Shugaba playbook

How do you get Atiku to go away? There is one other playbook that is original to Nigeria. This is the Shugaba approach.

Shugaba Darman was a popular charismatic politician who was a thorn in the flesh of the ruling National Party of NigeriaNPN) during Nigeria’s third republic. He attracted large crowds at political rallies where he criticized the NPN government. The answer of the government was to forcefully deport him to Chad on the bogus allegation that his father was a Chadian.

Although Shugaba fought his deportation in court and won every step of the way all the way to the Supreme Court, nevertheless, there are indications today’s APC government is not averse to employing the “Shugaba playbook” on Atiku. Out of nowhere, the government is now claiming that Atiku, who was Nigeria’s Deputy Director of Customs and the country’s vice president for 8 years, is not a Nigerian after all, but actually a Cameroonian. The next step, therefore, might be to Shugaba him back to Cameroon.

The Shugaba playbook might be combined with the Umaru Dikko playbook popularized by none other by President Buhari in his first coming as head-of-state. Like Dikko, Atiku could be kidnapped, drugged, put in a crate and flown out of the country in the dead of night; only to be dropped off near his “family house” in Yaounde.

But the problem with this approach is that Atiku is always one step ahead of the government. If they attempt this gambit, they may discover on getting to Yaounde, that the man in the crate is not Atiku but his double. Then they will get word that the real Atiku is somewhere nicely ensconced in Abuja, eating tuwo shinkafa with his lawyers.

Danger man

Why is this man Atiku so dangerous? Why is he so toxic to the health and welfare of this government?

The reason is simple. Atiku is a consummate political infighter. He won every court battle he fought when he was vice-president. He defeated attempts to remove him as vice-president, as well as attempts to disqualify him from running for president. Unlike many in the APC, Atiku pays great attention to detail. Moreover, he has the resources to fight this government into the ground and come up victorious.

He is not naïve. He knew the election would be rigged. Therefore, apart from extensively campaigning for votes, he equally set up an elaborate apparatus for challenging the expected false results. My guess is that Atiku organized his defense against the APC even before the election took place.

He must have had people manning every polling booth. He certainly had computers monitoring the INEC websites. He probably had eyes in the skies, even drones, trailing the movement of curious bullion vans. I will not be surprised if he even comes up with voice and video recordings of his opponents’ strategy sessions revealing how and where they switched the votes. No candidate, in the history of Nigeria, has ever mounted as comprehensive a challenge to a presidential election as Atiku has done.

As a result, Atiku’s presentations before the election petitions tribunal took the APC for a loop. They have been having sleepless nights ever since then. Moreover, they are convinced what they have seen up to now is only the tip of the iceberg. They are now asking themselves: “What will this man come up with next?” “How can we get this man to go away?”

No chance of that. In 2017, the presidential election in Kenya was overturned by the courts. In 2019, chances are the same thing will happen in Nigeria.

PoliticsWith Developments In Zamfara, Our Mandate Too Shall Be Reclaimed – Abba Yusuf by ahmedkoded95(op): 7:00pm On May 24, 2019
The Kano State Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Candidate, Abba Yusuf, has expressed optimism that he would also reclaim his mandate from Governor Abdullahi Ganduje at the tribunal.

The Kano PDP governorship candidate stated this while reacting to the sacking of the Zamfara State All Progressives Congress, APC, governor-elect, by the Supreme Court on Friday.

The Supreme Court on Friday morning dismissed the appeal of APC, challenging Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from issuing certificates of return to APC governor-elect, Mukhtar Koguna, in Zamfara State.

The Supreme Court in a unanimous judgment held that the party in the state failed to conduct primaries in accordance with the party rules.

In the judgment by Justice Paul Galinji, the Supreme Court, therefore, voided all votes cast in favour of the APC in the 2019 general elections.

Reacting on his twitter handle, Mr Yusuf congratulated the PDP and Zamfara residents over the victory, calling on ‘Kanawa’ (Kano people) to remain steadfast, faithful and prayerful.

He wrote: “While congratulating the people of Zamfara, my friend Alhaji Bello Matawalle and all @OfficialPDPNig members, I am calling on Kanawa to remain steadfast, faithful and prayerful.

“It is just a matter of time but our mandate shall eventually be reclaimed.”

PoliticsBanditry: Katsina Cancels Masari’s Inauguration Activities by ahmedkoded95(op): 3:08pm On May 24, 2019
Olaide Oyelude, Katsina

The Katsina State Government on Thursday cancelled the activities lined up for the inauguration ceremony of new administration in the state.

The government cited the current security situation in the state for the cancellation. It also said that the cancellation was in honour of victims of bandits’ attacks in the state.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, said the only activity that would take place would be the mandatory swearing-in of the governor and his deputy.

The statement did not disclose when and where the swearing-in would take place.

The statement partly read, “The Katsina State Government has cancelled all activities lined up for the inauguration ceremony of the new administration in the state.

“The decision on a low-key celebration was taken following the unfortunate incessant attacks by bandits in some areas of the state which led to the death of many people and left several others injured and homeless.

“To this end, all activities that are usually organised for the event have been cancelled except the mandatory swearing-in of the governor and the deputy governor-elect which is enshrined in section 185 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The decision was to also commiserate with the families and other people who lost their loved ones or property as a result of these dastardly acts of the bandits.

“The government of the state once again appeals to all law-abiding citizens to continue to remain calm as all hands are on the deck to restore normalcy in the state and bring the culprits to justice.”

Also, some top security chiefs from the armed forces and the police arrived in the state on Thursday to assess the level of insecurity in the state following recent bandits’ attacks in some parts of the state.

The visit was said to be at the instance of the Federal Government after Governor Aminu Masari had briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on the recent bandits’ killings in the state.

The security chief’s delegation was led by Maj. Gen. B. I. Ahanotu. The state Deputy Governor, Mannir Yakubu, received the delegation at the Government House, Katsina.

The deputy governor said, “Katsina is in a state of mourning, due to a series of killings by bandits.”

Yakubu added that the Masari’s administration inherited insecurity situation in 2015, adding that the government immediately took measures then to tackle the problem including an amnesty programme for repentant cattle rustlers and bandits.

He added, “The measures we took started yielding some fruits and peace was restored but it could not be sustained because we share boundaries with non-peaceful states of Zamfara and Kaduna.

“We thank President Muhammadu Buhari for responding promptly to our distress call and we are also happy that the Federal Government had pledged to wade into the issue. This problem has to be tackled and solved now so that our farmers can return to the farms more so as the rainy season has already set in. If we do not solve this problem now, there may be food scarcity and the Rugu Forest housing the bandits may not be accessible during the rainy season.”

AgricultureN364m Rice Farming Loan: Defaulters On-the-run In Taraba by ahmedkoded95(op): 3:26pm On May 12, 2019
The 3,383 farmers that collected N364million loan for rice farming in Taraba state have defaulted payment, the acting chairman, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) in the state, Mallam Tanko Bobbo Andami has said.

In an interview with Daily Trust, he said they collected the loan for wet and dry farming in 2018 and 2019 but none of them refund any amount while many of them are on the run.

Daily Trust findings revealed that the federal government under its rice production programme release the loans through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to 3,383 farmers in Taraba state through various multi-purpose co-operative societies.

It was gathered that the loan beneficiaries were from Lau, Gassol, Wukari, Karim-Lamido, Ardo-Kila, and Jalingo local government areas of the state who were registered under 185 multi-purpose co-operative societies.

Mallam Tanko told Daily Trust that under the agreement of the loan, each beneficiary is supposed to repay the loan with paddy rice and money immediately after harvest.

He said however “even a bag of paddy rice or single Kobo was not repaid by the entire 3,383 beneficiaries.” The chairman said water pumps, seeds, weed chemicals, fertilizers and cash were given to the rice farmers as loans under the programme, but all of them have defaulted.

He said the action of the beneficiaries for defaulting payment was discouraging and will undermine federal government’s effort in boosting local rice production.

“The federal government through the law enforcement agencies will soon go after the defaulting farmers and records of each beneficiary is available with Issuing Banks and therefore no farmer will go free,” Mallam Tanko said.

Christianity EtcWatching Game Of Thrones Can Lead You To Hell – Ghanaian Pastor by ahmedkoded95(op): 12:46am On May 12, 2019
A Ghanaian pastor, Victor Eghan, has declared those who watch the popular Games of Thrones TV show are at the risk of going of going to hell.
The show, he stated, is against his Christian beliefs.
He mentioned in a Instagram post that he came across some statistics that the popular TV show includes 865 deaths, 17 rapes (including attempted ones) and 144 scenes of naked people (with 83.7% being women).

Eghan pointed out in 2016, the show was in a legal battle with a porn website, Porn Hub, for using their explicit clips as it is a breach of copyright of HBO.

According to him, Game of Thrones preaches immorality by bringing out the fact that a lot of porn stars like Jessica Jenson and Samantha Bentley were used in the production of the show.

Eghan ended his post with a piece of advice for the fans of the American fantasy drama TV show: “Dear Christian and Game of Thrones fan, is this the kind of content you want to fill your mind with? What happened to Philippians 4:8? Is this the kind of things you want your daughter or son to engage in? Rape, murder, and immorality?

If you’re so attached to Game of Thrones that you’re getting angry with me, then who are you worshipping? GOD or GOT? One letter makes a big difference. And that one letter change can make a big difference when you stand before GOD on that day.”

Politics“Politicians Not Different From Prostitutes” – Sheikh Gumi by ahmedkoded95(op): 6:57pm On May 11, 2019
The revered Kaduna based Islamic cleric, Shiekh (Dr) Ahmad Gumi on Friday averred that there is no difference between a politician and a prostitute particularly those who jump from one political party to another.

According to the Islamic cleric who was asked if they (Islamic Clerics) have any influencing powers on politicians particularly those who are Muslims, said “Most politicians lack ideology and that is why they jump from one political party to another and there is no difference between them and the prostitutes” he stressed.

Sheikh Gumi responded to the question from an audience of majorly seminarians and Catholic priests shortly after delivering a paper at the ongoing second theology week organized by the Good Shepherd Major Seminary in Kaduna.

He said, clerics give counsel when necessary but while some politicians will take to the counsel, others do not for reasons best known to them.

On his paper titled, “Preaching and conscience formation of society in Islam’ said, ” Islam coming almost 600years after Christianity. As another system of values, logically has a stand about the other established religions before it.

First and foremost, it recognizes the unity in the foundation of the Abrahamic theological faith of monotheism. It recognizes the prophets and their revelations, and therefore encourages dialogue and discussions by way of persuasions not arguments”.

He posited therefore that not everybody in the society is a believer, adding that to compliment preaching in molding the conscience of its adherence, Islam has employed to other basic approaches to personality and character engineering which has influenced the world subsequently during its era of spread and expansion.

He stressed that the role of homilies in the conscience formation can never be over stated, adding that the society needs to be constantly reminded of its obligation towards God and Man, but lamented however that it is evident that the society is deviating and becoming Kore and more resistance to positive change andnregusing to listen to sermons.

PoliticsGanduje Moves To Remove Sanusi As Emir Of Kano - Thecable by ahmedkoded95(op): 11:31pm On May 06, 2019
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has relaunched moves to remove Muhammad Sanusi II as the emir of Kano, TheCable report.

On Monday, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission reopened investigation into the expenditure of the state emirate council under Sanusi II.

Also at Monday’s plenary of the house of assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the speaker, read a letter from one Ibrahim Salisu and others, seeking the creation of new Kano emirates in Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya.

“The governor is determined to remove the emir, and if this does not succeed, he will break the emirate into pieces to whittle down Sanusi’s power,” an official of the state government, who asked not to be named, told TheCable on Monday evening.

Ironically, Ganjude’s move to break the emirate into smaller units will mirror what Abiola Ajimobi, the outgoing governor of Oyo state, did to the olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, whose authority Ajimobi sought to decimate by approving 21 beaded kings for Ibadan.

Ganjude and Ajimobi are in-laws.

FOREIGN TRIPS

Sanusi II’s problem with Ganduje is usually traced to his critical comments in 2017 on the award of contracts to Chinese companies by state government and the foreign trips of the governor.

Shortly after the comment, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission alleged the misappropriation of N6billion by the Kano emirate council “without the approval of the state government”.

The probe was halted then but it has now been revived.

Sanusi II is believed to have opposed the re-election of Ganjude, who needed a disputed supplementary election to be returned to office in the March 2019 governorship election.

In a letter dated May 2, 2019, the state anti-graft commission invited one Isa Bayero to appear before it to shed more light on the payment vouchers from 2013 to 2017 in his name.

EMIRATE’S FUNDS

Other officers in the emirate council to be quizzed, according to TheCable sources, include Mohammad Sani Kwaru, the accountant, Mannir Sanusi, the chief of staff, Danburan Mujittafa and Falakin Kano.

The letter said the commission was inviting the staff over alleged violation of section 26 of its enabling law in the management of the emirate’s funds.

The letter also stated that the invitation was sequel to the power conferred to it under “section 9 and 15 of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended).”

Sanusi II was appointed the 14th emir in 2014 after his suspension from office as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Ganduje was the deputy governor to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso when Sanusi II was appointed, but the former governor is no longer on good terms with his successor.

Kwankwaso supported his son-in-law, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, to challenge Ganduje, but the incumbent was returned with a score 1,033,695 — a mere difference of 8,982.

Ganjude lost the Kano municipal heavily, leading to rumours that he would come after the emir after the election.

Politics“APC Will Win 2023 Elections Massively” - Dr Ogbonnaya Onu by ahmedkoded95(op): 4:26pm On May 06, 2019
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win 2023 elections in the entire south-east zone considering the quantum and quality of support and commitment the party is currently receiving from its members. He also said that though the party did not get much support during the last election, it performed better than it did in the 2015 election “which shows that the people of the zone are ready to work with us”

Onu made this known when the Conference of 2019 South East APC House of Assembly Candidates visited his country home in Ebonyi State to thank him for his support to them in the last general elections. He said: “With the level of support and vibrancy you all are showing to this great party, we believe that we shall be better by 2023. APC will win elections massively in the South East zone.”

But he insisted that a lot more work needed to be done in terms of convincing the citizens of the principles upon which the party is built which includes making lives better and delivering to the people the true dividends of democracy.

According to the minister, the party was happy that Nigerians had given President Muhammadu Buhari another chance to turn things around in the next four years.

He stated: “It is obvious that the present government wants the best for the citizens of this country. But some people are yet to believe that. They are not even seeing the efforts he is making in terms of boosting our infrastructure.”

He explained that the present administration came into office at a time when the country was completely dependent on crude oil and when the price slipped at the international market, it went into recession.

He however said that the president was able to manage the economy efficiently, hence “there is an improvement in the infrastructural sector of the country, like construction of roads and maintenance of existing ones and even the waterways, all of which contribute to the growth of the economy.”

PoliticsSowore Blasts Buhari Over 'IG Is Losing Weight' Comment by ahmedkoded95(op): 3:53pm On May 06, 2019
"I think the President has lost it. His reaction is at variance with the gravity of the insecurity in the country"

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, has blasted President Muhammadu Buhari for his comments on the recent spike in insecurity and kidnappings all over the country upon arrival from London.

When asked on Sunday if a different approach would be employed to combat insurgents, Buhari had responded that Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), was losing weight, proof that he was working hard.

Reacting to the statement on Monday, Sowore said: "I think the President has lost it. His reaction is at variance with the gravity of the insecurity in the country".

In a video tweeted by VOA journalist Saleh Shehu Ashaka, on Twitter @AshakaSaleh, had asked the President: “Are we likely to see a different approach in the fight against insecurity, especially kidnapping, which is a big issue now Sir?"

The President responded: “You know, I have just seen the IG, he is… I think he is losing weight; so, I think he is working hard.

Buhari arrived Nigeria from London where he sought medical services at a private hospital, contrary to claims by the presidency that the trip was a "private visit".

PoliticsFashola Releases List Of Alleged Corrupt Contractors Following FOI Request by ahmedkoded95(op): 5:27pm On May 05, 2019
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has forwarded to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) documents from some of the ministry’s agencies providing details regarding the names of contractors that allegedly collected money for electricity projects but failed to execute any projects.

Fashola also invited SERAP to “inspect a compendium of verified and paid/outstanding liabilities of contractors, kept at the offices of the Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Limited/GTE.”

This development was disclosed on Sunday in a statement by SERAP deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

It said the ministry’s letter with reference number FMP/LU/R2K/2016/T/40 and signed on Fashola’s behalf by the Permanent Secretary (Power), Louis Edozien, was sent to SERAP last week.

The letter reveals that: “Pow Technologies Limited, an Abuja based company, was in 2014 awarded a contract for the supply and installation of test and maintenance equipment relays, etc to various NAPTIN regional training centers (RTCs) (LOT15), with the total contract sum of N87,763,302.40, out of which N79,404,892.66 was paid to Pow Technologies Limited.”

According to the ministry’s letter, although the contract was awarded in 2014, only 13 of the 19 items have so far been supplied, with 6 items outstanding.

The details of the 6 items that Pow Technologies Limited has allegedly failed to supply are not provided by the ministry but the letter indicates some of the action the ministry said it has taken to ensure: “completion of the project, address criminal breach of contract and take remedial action.”

The ministry said that while the contractors undertook to take remedial action, they have failed to complete the project for which funds have been released.

The ministry pointed out that it submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Abuja on January 13, 2016, and that the police instituted a case for the prosecution of Messrs Pow at the Upper Area Court.

The ministry also said it has sought and received legal advice to pursue a civil action at the FCT High Court while a report of criminal breach of contract has been made to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Responding, SERAP said: “We welcome Mr Fashola’s latest response and the information regarding Pow Technologies Limited. But we need details of names of other contractors that have collected public funds yet failed to execute power projects.

“We will continue to push the Ministry and its agencies to reveal more details of alleged corrupt contractors and companies, as contained in our FOI request. We will continue to pursue our FOI suit at the Federal High Court, Lagos, before Justice Chuka Austine Obiozor, a Professor of Law, who has granted an order for leave in the case.”

Mr Fashola’s latest letter to SERAP reads in part: “I write with respect to the Ministry’s letter regarding details of alleged corrupt contractors and to forward the attached responses from some of the Ministry’s Agencies namely: National Bulk Electricity Trading Plc; National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Limited/GTE for your information.”

It would be recalled that Mr Fashola had earlier said in response to SERAP’s FOI request that: “the Ministry has searched for the requested information on details of alleged contractors and companies that collected money for electricity projects and failed to executive any projects, but we could not find it from our records.”

However, SERAP disagreed with the response, saying: “The public expectation is that government information, when in the hands of any public institutions and agencies, should be available to the public, as prescribed by the FOI Act. The FOI Act should always be used as an authority for disclosing information rather than withholding it.”

Mr Fashola in a follow-up letter dated March 4, 2019, to SERAP’s reaction promised to: “refer the request for details of alleged contractors and companies that collected money for electricity projects and failed to executive any projects to the ministry’s agencies for necessary action and appropriate response.

“There may be instances of part-payment against certification of commensurate value for materials and services in achieved contract milestone even though the entire contract is not 100% performed.”

Mr Fashola’s initial response followed SERAP’s FOI request and suit number FHC/L/CS/105/19 filed in February at the Federal High Court, Lagos.

The suit is seeking “an order of mandamus directing and/or compelling Mr Fashola to provide specific details on the names and whereabouts of the contractors who collected public funds meant for electricity projects but disappeared with the money without executing any projects.”

PoliticsSalary Delay Will Soon Be A Thing Of The Past - Gov Abdulfatah Ahmed (photos) by ahmedkoded95(op): 3:59pm On May 04, 2019
Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that the delay in the payment of salaries of certain categories of workers in the State would soon be a thing of the past “in the shortest possible time”.

Gov. Ahmed, who gave this assurance at the presentation of First Class Staff of Office to eight newly upgraded traditional rulers in the State, hinged the optimism on the on-going verification of staff, reform of Internal Revenue Generation Mechanism as well as the proposed takeover of Junior Secondary Education funding.

Dr Ahmed who said his administration was not unaware of the pains, the delay in the payment of salaries has caused many, cautioned politicians against inciting statements and misinformation against the government.

“These inmoral and unpatriotic attempts to gain political capital from the plight of workers affected by the huge drop in allocation to all tiers of government in the country must be condemned and resisted by all stakeholders, including traditional rulers.

As your governor, I am not unaware of the hardship faced by basic education teachers and other local government workers over the unfortunate delay in salary payment. I feel their pains and will do everything within my power to bring the crises to an end”, the governor promised.

He charged the royal fathers in the state to “educate members of their communities on the current economic situation in the country and measures the state government has put in place to remedy the situation”.

Governor Ahmed also urged traditional rulers as custodians of tradition and culture to continue to support the state government in order to ensure prosperity of Kwarans.

The Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu Gambari in his remarks, said the newly elevated traditional rulers to first class status were of impeccable characters.

HealthUsmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital Commences Open Heart Surgery by ahmedkoded95(op): 12:15am On Apr 28, 2019
The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto has commenced open heart surgery.

Briefing newsmen in Sokoto, acting Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Nasir Muhammed said the disease was a common problem all over the world and that anything that affect the heart could lead to untimely death.

According to him, over 5,000 people require heart surgery in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara state.

“And these people are mostly poor who could not afford such treatment. Before now, the only closest hospital where such operation is available is Nizamiyya hospital in Abuja and the least they can charge is five million Naira or one has to travel oversea where he can pay double,” he said

Muhammed who noted that open heart surgery was capital intensive, said the hospital would charge at least two million Naira depending on the severity of the problem.

He called on the governments, corporate organizations and wealthy individual to support the programme for its sustainability.

“We cannot sustain it without their support. Open heart surgery is very expensive because of the kind of material used which majority of our people cannot afford. So we need the support of the government, corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to sustain the programme,” he said

According to him, the current surgery operation was being conducted in collaboration with the King Muhammad VI University Teaching Hospital in Morocco as part of their Memorandum of Understanding.

“We made a lot of investment on the programme. We trained our staff both doctors and nurses and equipped the centre with state of the art equipment in addition of signing an MoU with King Muhammad VI University Teaching Hospital, Morocco,” he explained.

On his part, Dr Abubakar Umar, a cardiothoracic surgeon of UDUS, said that they had operated on five patients since the commencement of the programme on Sunday. He said the operations were done without charges on the patients.

He said three of the patients had their heart valve replaced while others born with abnormality in their heart were operated.

He also advised that heart surgery should be included in the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The leader of the Morocco’s team, Professor Boumzevra Drissi, a cardiovascular surgeon, said heart disease was one of the major cause of death in the globe and urged people to avoid smoking and excess eating which he said were part of causes of heart diseases.

SportsCristiano Ronaldo Becomes First Player To Win All Three Major Leagues by ahmedkoded95(op): 12:49am On Apr 21, 2019
Cristiano Ronaldo has done it again! Different country, same result: a domestic title for the Portuguese superstar.

With Juventus having clinched the Scudetto with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina on Saturday, Ronaldo has become the first man to win Europe’s three major leagues: Serie A, La Liga and the Premier League.

The significance of this latest success will, of course, be debated. Firstly, it has arrived just four days after a demoralising Champions League elimination at the hands of a far more exciting but far less expensively assembled Ajax side.

In addition, this is Juve’s eighth consecutive Scudetto, won with fivegames to spare. At no point did it look like they wouldn’t retain their crown.

They were heavy favourites even before they signed Ronaldo from Madrid last summer. The arrival of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner merely made the probable inevitable.

Indeed, Antonio Cassano even claimed Ronaldo’s signing had secured the Scudetto until 2022, when the forward’s Juve contract is due to expire.
Ronaldo, though, felt he should be commended for broadening his horizons once again, even using his latest transfer as an opportunity to take a shot at his great rival, Lionel Messi, who looks increasingly likely to spend his entire career at Barcelona.

“I’ve played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and for my national team, while he’s still in Spain,” said Ronaldo.

“Maybe he needs me more. For me, life is a challenge. I like it and I like to make people happy.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasn’t, though.

The Swedish striker – who has won titles in four countries (Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France) – took umbrage with the idea that Ronaldo’s Madrid departure was motivated by a desire to test himself in another league.

“Ronaldo talks about challenges but he decided to go to a club who have been winning the Serie A title with their eyes closed!” Ibra legitimately pointed out.

“Why did he not choose a club from a second division a few years ago? Try to become a champion with such a second-division [club] and lead them to the highest level.

“Moving to Juventus is not a challenge at all.”

Certainly, this season’s Serie A success wasn’t in the least bit taxing – either for Ronaldo or Juve.

They have been the outright leaders from match day two, winning 16 of their opening 17 fixtures to put the title race to bed by Christmas.

Indeed, their haul of 53 points from a possible 58 represented a new record for the halfway point of a Serie A season.

What’s more, Juve haven’t even played particularly well. They have been in cruise control for most of the campaign, playing effective but uninspired football, winning just five games by three goals or more.

It has been a sterile dominance. They have been nowhere near their best because they haven’t had to be.
They managed to beat Inter and Milan at home, and Napoli away, despite performing poorly. That’s how poor the level of competition has been for them.

Ronaldo has been predictably effective, with 19 goals, but he is only fourth in the Capocannoniere standings, three strikes behind 36-year-old top scorer Fabio Quagliarella, who is likely to be named player of the season for being the story of the season.

The 19-year-old Moise Kean, meanwhile, has arguably been the revelation of Juve’s campaign, not least because it’s hard to think of anyone else who has surpassed expectations.

Giorgio Chiellini has been his characteristically consistent self, and was sorely missed in the decisive Champions League quarter-final second leg against Ajax, while Wojciech Szczesny has proven a reliable replacement for Gianluigi Buffon.

The rest of their team-mates, though, have sparkled only occasionally.

Mario Mandzukic was a monster during the first half of the season but has faded since the turn of the year, while Paulo Dybala has played only in fits and starts and is no longer a guaranteed starter.

It’s not as if they were saving themselves for Europe either – Juve turned in only two impressive performances in the Champions League before being dumped out by Ajax: the 1-0 win at Manchester United in the group stages; and the exhilarating 3-0 second-leg victory over Atletico Madrid in the last 16.

Ronaldo was, of course, the star of the show that night in Turin and, in truth, it is at that level that the true value of his transfer will be determined.

Just like Neymar, he left Spain to play for a team where domestic titles are taken for granted. Both moves will be ultimately judged on results in Europe.

Becoming the first man to win a league in a third different country is undoubtedly a commendable achievement for Ronaldo – it demonstrates versatility and a willingness to experience a new club, new team-mates and a new environment – but, given Serie A’s painful lack of competition, it does little to strengthen Ronaldo’s claim on the title of the greatest of all time.

Winning the Champions League with a third different team – one that hasn’t lifted the European Cup since 1996 – well, that is the real challenge.

Pass that particular test and Ronaldo’s case to be considered the greatest will be compelling. Unlike Serie A, though, it’s not going to be easy.
