PoliticsTribunal: Ajimobi Urges APC To Close Ranks Ahead Of Judgments by ahmedkoded95(op): 8:30pm On Aug 30, 2019
A former governor of Oyo State Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Friday urged members of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo south senatorial district to close ranks ahead of the tribunal’s judgment for both the gubernatorial and senatorial petitions. Ajimobi, who stated this at the party senatorial meeting in Ibadan, also enjoined party faithful to approach future political challenges with a resolve to be selfless, forgiving and more committed to the cause of the APC and Nigeria.

His words: “While we are expecting the courts to do justice to some of the cases emanating from conducts of the last general elections in the state especially as it concerns the seats of the Senator representing Oyo South at the Red Chamber as well as the Governor of the state, I would like to admonish every member of our great party to eschew bitterness and preach

“There are insinuations in some quarters about some of the policies and undertakings of our eight-year administration which some people considered controversial but in all honesty, I meant well for the state. All my actions were geared towards facilitating development for the whole state and also thus make life more meaningful for the masses,” Ajimobi stated.

In his welcome address, the party chairman for the Oyo South senatorial district, Adefisoye Adekanye, appealed to members to “remain faithful and committed in view of current challenges as what happened in the 2019 general election was an eye opener.

“We have all realized the need for loyalty to our party, renewed commitment to its cause and entrenchment of peace among ourselves.”

PoliticsBayelsa Poll: Don’t Interfere In APC Gov Primary, Group Warns Slyva by ahmedkoded95(op): 5:37pm On Aug 29, 2019
A group, Bayelsa APC Vanguard for Peace, has told the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva not to interfere in the conduct of the primary.

In a statement by coordinator of the group, Prince Mike Egberi, said there were signs of disunity in the party already urging Sylva against imposition of his preferred aspirants.

Egberi said: “If care is not taken, what happened in Rivers and Zamfara states may happen in Bayelsa State. This was how it started in those states and now, the APC does not have elected officials in those states. This is what happens when one man wants to be in charge of everything.

“The appearance of David Lyon on the list of aspirants came because Sylva wants to dictate what is going on in the party. We will advise that he should provide leadership and ensure that every stakeholder is carried along.

“A situation where some people are under-rated because of the feeling that they are not important is not good for our party. Sylva should sit down with Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and move the party forward. The macabre dance being displayed now will only destroy this party and give room to outsiders to take advantage of our disunity and bury the party, just like they did in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

“We are aware that Lyon is Sylva’s aspirant. We are also aware that he brought some other persons to contest. But he hates the guts of other contenders who are seeking the same office but without his blessing. He should be a father to all and remain neutral as the leader that he is. Anything short of this will destroy the party.”

The APC stakeholders said it was shameful and worrisome that with just a few days to the party primary, there was no clear direction on whether the primary will hold and which method would be adopted.

Egberi said: “Ee have it on good authority that it is only one person that insisted on the use of direct primary method in selecting the party’s flagbearer. Virtually all members preferred indirect primary, being the method to be used in Kogi.

“So, our issue is this; why is it okay to use indirect primary somewhere else and then in Bayelsa State, another method is preferred. The party is not fair to us and this must be considered in the interest of our collective interest.

“We are not comfortable with this whole thing; our party leaders must, as a matter of necessity, find a way around this impending calamity that is about befall our party. We cannot afford to lose Bayelsa state because of the selfish interest of somebody or a group of persons.”

PoliticsPresident Buhari Not Fair To Nupes - Sulaiman Musa Wakili by ahmedkoded95(op): 10:40am On Aug 29, 2019
Since the beginning of President Buhari regime, the Nupes have not been appointed in any big political appointments, eg Minister or Head of any big parastatals. The Nupes are the fifth populated tribe in the country according to 1963 and 1991 census. Going by the Nigeria political history, Nupes were recognized in the first and second republic. In the second republic alone 1979 to 1983, Nupes held three big posts Minister, SGF, Head of Civil Service Commission. Even during former President Obasanjo regime two Nupes were appointed Ministers. The Nupes with long time western education and experience on civil service work have contributed in the first republic and former Sokoto State.

With this my few explanation, I want president Buhari to rethink and recognize Nupes and do justice. The Nupes in three states voted massively for APC because of PMB.

I seize this opportunity to inform Nigerlites to cancel zoning formula if they actually want the development. Niger State which was created since 1975 is still backward. When you visit Jigawa, Katsina States which were created twenty seven years ago and see the developmental achievements there you agree with me that Nigerlites are just deveiving themselves. Simply because of zoning, the second term is always automatic even though the incumbent governor is performing or not.

PoliticsAbe Disagrees With Amaechi Over Venue Of APC Congress by ahmedkoded95(op): 6:16pm On Aug 26, 2019
Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt

The immediate past lawmaker representing RiversSouth-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, has disagreed with the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, over the alleged move to conduct the congresses of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.

Abe said in a statement on Monday that the announcement by Amaechi that the congresses would be conducted in Rivers was unacceptable.

Amaechi was said to have announced to his supporters shortly after his inauguration in Abuja by President Muhammadu Buhari that there would be congress in the state.

Abe spoke at the weekend when members of the APC Visionary Media Team paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He said in the statement signed by his spokesperson, Mr. Parry Benson, that rather than concentrate on achieving the needed contribution to national development, Amaechi was creating another avenue for tension and crisis in the political structure of the party.

Abe pointed out that the minister was demonstrating the same unruly behaviour that brought the party in Rivers State to a fiasco.

The senator urged the minister to demonstrate his sincerity in rebuilding the party by consulting others and showing respect for the rights and feelings of all members of the party.

Abe, however, appealed to members to be resolute and committed to the growth of the party in the state.

He assured the group that even if he was out of office, he was still a politician committed to the development of the party, insisting that what is needed is peace, inclusiveness, progress and the commitment of all members to move the party forward.

“Look at the state of our party here today in Rivers State, yet the Minister of Transportation, on assumption of office as Minister of Transportation; the first thing he did was to announce congresses in Rivers State and I ask myself, this was the same kind of behaviour that led the party to where it is.

“Everybody in Nigeria knows that the origin of the crisis in Rivers APC was from the congress and how the congress was handled and there are extant judicial pronouncements on the last congress, which the party was misled to ignore and we have all kept quiet in the hope that by keeping quiet, we will create room for resolution of some of these challenges, so that the party can move forward.

”Instead, you become more brazen in your challenge to the rights, feelings, and interest of others within the same political party. How do we do that and expect to make progress?

”What kind of congress? Is he the chairman of the party? Is he the National Working Committee? Is he the court? What gives him the power to come and announce congress on the day he was inaugurated as a minister?

”Rather than address the issues of the country and the issues of his ministry, the first thing he could do was to reopen the sourest point in the heart of members of the party. And it is on that basis that party members are deprived of all rights and benefits in the party we all suffered to build. Is that how to grow a political family? Is that how to grow politics? We will not accept that congress.

”Minister cannot sit in his office and make pronouncement on a matter in which he and several other people have interest; people have gone to court, people have fought for their rights in that congress and the same thing that he did before, by creating confusion in the first place, he is determined to continue to do it because he wants to prove to the world that he is a conqueror. As I said before, nobody can conquer Rivers people.

The Kaduna State government has announced that it will commence the implementation of the New National Minimum wage from September 1, 2019.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Communication, Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, disclosed this to Channels Television on Monday.

He made the disclosure at the end of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the deputy governor, Mrs Hadiza Balarabe.

Adekeye explained that the Council approved that payment of the new national minimum wage and consequential adjustments to civil servants should begin from September.

He said the approval was part of the commitment of the Nasir El-Rufai administration to strengthening public service and its capacity to deliver quality and responsive service.

In arriving at the decision to pay the N30,000 minimum wage, Adekeye explained that the government considered several scenarios, bearing in mind the trend of Internally Generated Revenues and allocations from the Federation Account.

He noted that paying the new national minimum wage and consequential adjustments would increase the wage bill of the State Government by 33.

The governor’s aide added that the development would increase the gross monthly salary outlay from N2.827billion to N3.759billion.

According to the new wage structure, the lowest-paid workers in the Kaduna State Civil Service will enjoy increments of as much as 67% while middle-ranking officers from Grade 10 to 14 were awarded increments of 60%.

- The rearrested kidnap kingpin had claimed he defrauded the Taraba governor

- Governor Ishaku said he has never met the kidnap suspect

Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku, has debunked a statement by the rearrested kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Wadume, alleging that the suspect duped him of N6million.

The governor in a statement on Sunday, August 25 by his special adviser on media and publicity Bala Dan-Abu, says he was never a victim of Wadume’s duplicity and never lost money to him.

He urged the general public to discard and disregard Wadume’s confessions, and only see them as the rantings of a drowning criminal.

The governor used the forum to commend security agencies for promptly arresting Wadume and urged them to expand their dragnet to all the nooks and crannies of Taraba state.

PoliticsNigeria Air Still On Road Map — Sirika by ahmedkoded95(op): 8:28pm On Aug 21, 2019
The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika has said the proposed national carrier, Nigeria Air, is still on the aviation roadmap and will be implemented. Sirika spoke on Wednesday at the Ministry of Aviation when he was being received by the staff and unions in the aviation sector, who had thronged out to welcome the returnee minister.

“Nigeria Air is still on the road map. So, we need your support. For one aeroplane that comes into the country means 300 jobs. More than that is the catalyst for the economic growth of our country. It also adds to our gross domestic product,” he said.

He also said he will pursue other growth areas of the ministry. “What we have done is that we have raised the aviation contribution to GDP from 0.4 to 0.6. I believe that in the coming year, we will get to 1 percent at least,” he said.

“I do believe that the aviation has a lot for Nigerians, it connects people, countries, continents, markets and be that catalyst that is missing to rejuvenate our economy. 200 million people in the centre of Africa is a huge advantage,” he noted.

According to him, now that he is back, he will still continue to work together with the staff and the unions in harmony. “If there is need, we will re-tweak what we have done before to make it better in the interest of Nigeria and the aviation industry,” he assured.

“Nigerians should know that, we drew a road map and we will follow the road map. We will continue with it and if need be, we will tweak it so that it will serve the industry better and be pro-people” he said.

PoliticsKano To Convert 5 Forests To Herdsmen Settlements by ahmedkoded95(op): 12:55pm On Aug 21, 2019
Kano State Government says it is planning to convert five forests to grazing reserves for herdsmen in the state.

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State announced this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

Ganduje said that his administration had inaugurated a technical committee on farm settlements for herdsmen in the state.

He said further that the proposed settlement would assist in boosting socio-economic ventures in the state.

He noted that the settlement was also to discourage the movement of herders from north to south to address herders/farmers crisis.

“We will provide social amenities such as hospital, veterinary clinic, market, security post, and schools so that herdsmen will enjoy facilities just like other Nigerians,” Ganduje said.

According to him, herders settlement should not be a national issue, it should be a state issue because they live and flourish in every state.

He said that his administration would redouble efforts to ensure that farmers enjoy more intervention programs and projects to boost agriculture in the state.

PoliticsNdi-igbo Germany Apologises Over Attack On Senator Ekweremadu by ahmedkoded95(op): 12:44pm On Aug 20, 2019
Ndi-Igbo Germany, an umbrella body of Igbo people living in Germany on Monday tendered an unreserved apology to the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, over the weekend attack on him by members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra in Nuremberg, Germany.

A statement by Uche Anichukwu, Special Assistant to Ekweremadu on Media said the group has said that any embarrassment to a leading light of Ndigbo like Ekweremadu was an embarrassment to the entire Igbo race and Nigeria, vowing to ensure that the law runs its full course.

The body said the event was part of its efforts to encourage foreign investment and industrialisation of Igboland, noting that it “provided a forum for Igbo people in Diaspora to network and to engage German business community with interest in investments and development in Igboland in particular and Nigeria in general”.

According to Anichukwu, the apology letter was signed by NIG leader, Engr. Ogechukwu Nsofor. He quoted the group as saying, “We, Ndi-Igbo Germany, the umbrella/apex union of all Igbo unions operating in the Federal Republic of Germany are shocked and dismayed by the unprovoked, unwarranted and senseless attack unleashed on Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany.

“Ndi-Igbo Germany, wish to offer our unequivocal apology to our special guest of honour, Senator Ike Ekweremadu – former Deputy Senate President – for the unfortunate treatment misdirected at him by members of Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra in Germany during the occasion of our second Annual Igbo Cultural Festival and Convention 2019.

“It must be emphasised that Senator Dr. Ike Ekweremadu had nothing personal to gain in attending our cultural day. Rather the Igbo residents here in Germany lost an opportunity to tap into his reservoir of knowledge.

“No words can describe our shock, our consternation, and our sadness at this inexcusable, shameful and senseless attack. We apologise from the depths of our hearts that you had to experience such a horrible thing here in our midst. This is not how we are here. Please do not hold this incident against the 99 per cent law-abiding Umu-Igbo in Germany.

“Our apologies go to Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo and to all well-meaning Igbo-Diasporan groups and associations both at home and abroad for this disgrace.

“We sincerely apologize to the National Assembly and indeed to our entire country for such an unwarranted assault on Senator Ike Ekweremadu by the IPOB members in Germany.”

He added, “Let this event be a rallying call to all Umu Igbo at home and worldwide to always seek unity rather than primitively turning against ourselves in senseless violence which will make neutral and friendly global nations turn away from us.

“Ndi-Igbo Germany (N.I.G) condemns in strongest terms this action by the members of IPOB in Germany against Senator Ike Ikweremadu. Ndi-Igbo Germany distances herself from any group that encourages violence, directly or indirectly.

“It is not acceptable that an Igbo man or woman would come to the occasion of an ancient Igbo traditional event like Iri-ji and not only cause commotion, but also physically attack an invited guest, a fellow Igbo brother from home and a senior Igbo elder statesman in the person of Senator Dr. Ike Ekweremadu. This is an abomination in Igbo land. And in a foreign land! Is this what we have come to in our united struggle, Ndi Igbo? A house divided against itself cannot stand.

“This single action will cost IPOB in Germany more than 70 per cent of her hitherto sympathisers. What IPOB Germany thought in their inept, diminutive, and megalomaniac mindset as a humiliation of Senator Ekweremadu is, in reality, a humiliation of the Igbo race in a foreign land”.

PoliticsOyetola Urges Youth To Embrace Agriculture by ahmedkoded95(op): 1:32am On Aug 20, 2019
Gboyega Oyetola, governor of Osun state, has called on youth across the country to engage in agricultural activities rather than investing their time in cyber-crime.

The governor said this during a facility tour of Bob Jones Farm Limited at Obadimu community, Orolu local government area of the state, on Monday.

He said his administration is committed to revamping the agricultural sector in the state through private partnership.

Oyetola said the sector “remains the sustainable means of advancing the nation’s economy.”

“Agriculture is essential and it pays. This is the way to go if we are serious and genuine in the quest to stimulate our economy,” he said.

“Agriculture is a lucrative business, unlike before, when subsistence farming was the order of the day. Now, agriculture had gone beyond that, as mechanised and digital farming have become the order of the day.

“As a government, we have been working assiduously to breathe a new life into agriculture sector, and make it the most vibrant and profitable means of stimulating and advancing the economy of the state. Our government is open to private sector, individuals and corporate organisations who share the same ideologies with us to reposition the sector for the good of all.

“We are bringing in a revitalisation template that will help to support the needs of our farmers, and as well attract the young ones into farming. The present economic realities have called for the need for everyone to develop interest in agriculture, as the sector remains the sustainable means of advancing the nation’s economy.

“So, I urge our youths to show interest in agriculture and shun illegal means of getting rich. There is no gain in cyber-crime, there is no future in illegitimate means of survival, youths must desist from these acts, and embrace agriculture for survival.

“Agriculture is lucrative, productive and profitable if we all decide to invest in it. Let’s go back to the farm to make our state to be sufficient in food productions and as well have much to export,” he said.

In his remark, Bisi Adegoke, the owner of the farm, said his decision to invest in the agriculture is aimed at empowering the people, particularly the young ones.
