Cameroonian opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who is contesting the outcome of the presidential election, has fled to The Gambia for his safety, The Gambian government has said.

Tchiroma Bakary has insisted he is the legitimate winner of the 12 October election, alleging that the result was rigged to give President Paul Biya, 92, an eighth term.

The Gambian information ministry said on Sunday that Tchiroma Bakary arrived on 7 November and was allowed to stay on humanitarian grounds.

In a decisive move on Tuesday, an Abuja estate developer, Winning Clause Nigeria Limited, reclaimed possession of Plot 67, Cadastral Zone C05, Kafe District in Abuja, following four judicial rulings declaring the Kuchibedna community unauthorised occupants.

The developer has commenced demolition of structures within the community, acting on binding court orders including a recent Court of Appeal decision.

Originating in 2011, the dispute began when Winning Clause received the plot allocation and claims to have compensated the community three times. Despite this, residents refused to vacate and allegedly expanded the settlement by selling land to non-indigenous occupants, enlarging the illegal encroachment.

Court records reinforce the company’s position: In 2016, Justice Chizoba Oji dismissed the community’s claim, labelling them squatters ineligible for compensation. In 2017, Justice D.Z. Senchi reaffirmed their status as trespassers. By 2021, Justice A.O. Ebong upheld the illegal occupation ruling, a verdict sustained by the Court of Appeal in February 2025.

An enrolled Court of Appeal judgment dated 22 August 2025 and a corresponding Warrant of Possession from 23 September 2025 formed the legal foundation for the enforcement action. Ikongbeh emphasised the company’s “unusual magnanimity” in compensating even non-indigenous residents after multiple court victories. Supporting documents, including a November 2016 FCDA letter, confirm all compensation obligations were met.

Reports circulated on Friday afternoon alleging that former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, had died in London.

The reports gained traction after Sahara Reporters claimed that Obiano died after a battle with severe heart failure and complications reportedly linked to urinary cancer.Adinuba said he had personally spoken with the former governor and confirmed that Obiano is not only alive but “hale and hearty,” and currently residing in the United States—not the United Kingdom, as claimed in the earlier report.

“Obiano has never lived in the United Kingdom. He lives in the United States of America. I just spoke with him now,” Adinuba stated.
He urged the public to disregard the rumour, warning that such unfounded claims could cause unnecessary distress to the former governor’s family, associates, and the people of Anambra State.

A check by PM News also revealed that Sahara Reporters had deleted its initial publication on the matter.

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has increased the dollar spending limit on its Naira cards by 500 percent to $6,000 per quarter, up from $1,000 in July 2025, as liquidity conditions in Nigeria’s foreign exchange (FX) market continue to improve.

The bank disclosed the adjustment in a notice sent to its customers on Monday, stating: “Please note that the dollar limit on your Naira card is now $6,000 per quarter, and this rate is subject to change in line with prevailing market conditions.”
