Unreasonable Increase of Rent

37.—(1) Subject to any agreement to the contrary, an existing tenant may apply as in
form TL11 to the Court for an Order declaring that the increase in rent payable under
a tenancy agreement is unreasonable.
(2) In determining whether an increase in the rent is unreasonable, the Court shall issue
hearing notice as in form TL12 to the Landlord and shall consider the application on the following grounds -
(a) the general level of rents in the locality or a similar locality for comparative analysis;
(b) evidence of witnesses of the parties; and
(c) any special circumstances relating to the premises in question or any other relevant
matter.
(3) If satisfied that the increase in the rent is unreasonable, the Court may order as in form TL13 that the increase in the rent be changed to a specific amount.
(4) Notwithstanding the provisions of any Law, it shall be unlawful for a landlord to eject a tenant from any premises pending the determination of the action.

Don't advertise your ignorance here. There’s a reason why Landlords avoid specific kind of tenants (Lawyers, Real estate Professionals etc), because they know these laws and would easily use it to their advantage if the Landlord tries to move funny.

In Nigeria tenancy law, Landlords are not allowed to increase rent more than 20% of the initial rent, and the increase shall be considered after every 2 years.

Nigerian law stipulates that rent must not be increased by over 50percent in a year.
The tenants have a right to sue.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested the parish priest and officials of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Abuja over their roles in a fatal stampede in the Nigerian capital.

Police said they were investigating the stampede in Abuja as well as two others in Anambra and Oyo.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrests, citing negligence by the organisers.

Japanese automakers Honda and Nissan have announced plans to work toward a merger that would form the world’s third-largest automaker by sales, as the industry undergoes dramatic changes in its transition away from fossil fuels.

The two companies said they had signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday and that smaller Nissan alliance member Mitsubishi Motors Corp. also had agreed to join the talks on integrating their businesses.

Honda’s president, Toshihiro Mibe, said Honda and Nissan will attempt to unify their operations under a joint holding company. Honda will lead the new management, retaining the principles and brands of each company. They aim to have a formal merger agreement by June and to complete the deal and list the holding company on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by August 2026, he said.

A merger could result in a behemoth worth more than $50 billion based on the market capitalization of all three automakers. Together, Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi would gain scale to compete with Toyota Motor Corp. and with Germany’s Volkswagen AG.

Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi earlier agreed to share components for electric vehicles like batteries and to jointly research software for autonomous driving to adapt better to electrification.

From Nissan, Honda could get truck-based body-on-frame large SUVs such as the Armada and Infiniti QX80 that Honda doesn’t have, with large towing capacities and good off-road performance, Sam Fiorani, vice president of AutoForecast Solutions, told The Associated Press.

Nissan also has years of experience building batteries and electric vehicles, and gas-electric hybrid powertrains that could help Honda in developing its own EVs and next generation of hybrids, he said.
