Politics › Buhari’s 1 Year: States, LGs Gulp N2.8tr From Federation Account by aieromon(op): 2:50pm On Jun 12, 2016
A new report has disclosed that the 36 states and the 774 local government councils in Nigeria shared a total sum of N2.8 trillion from the Federation Account in the one year of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

An exclusive report by the Economic Confidential, an intelligence economic magazine, disclosed that the total figure was payment made to the two tiers of government between June 2015 and May 2016 at the monthly meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC)..

In the report, Lagos state is ranked first as the highest recipient of gross allocation with a total sum of N178bn in the twelve months. It is followed by Akwa State N173bn, Delta State N144bn and Kano State N117bn. The five states cornered a quarter (25%) of the total allocation for the States and local government councils in Nigeria within the one year period.

Among the 10 highest recipients from the Federation Account are Bayelsa State which got N95bn; followed by Katsina State N88bn, Oyo State N84bn, Kaduna State N83bn and Borno State N78bn.

The lowest recipients are Gombe and Ebonyi States that got N49bn each followed by Ekiti and Nasarawa States N50bn each and Kwara N52bn.

The report further disclosed that Edo and Ondo which are oil-producing states got N66bn and N71bn respectively while another state in the South-South, Cross River State merely received N59bn.

The Economic Confidential gathered that factors that influence allocations to states and local government councils from the Federation Account include: Population, Derivation, Landmass, Terrain, Revenue Effort, School Enrolments, Health Facilities, Water Supply and Equality of the beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the Economic Confidential which has been publishing the monthly Federation Account Allocation figures in the print edition of the magazine since January 2007, has commenced the publication of the monthly allocation in its online version.

The magazine is a sister publication of PRNigeria, a news release syndication platform.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Gross Vs Take Home Pay. How Much Is Deducted From Your Salary? by aieromon(m): 8:52am On Jun 12, 2016
vapid:
Actually it's 16.4% of basic. Pension is about 8.5%. Housing 2.5%.
I don't earn that much to have all these deductions considering the government doesn't do anything for me
Great, your organisation has been creative enough to restructure your income tax. Deducting 8.5% as pension is wrong under the Pension Act. Organisations are not obliged to make deductions for the National Housing Fund.

All the allowances (housing, transport, leave, miscellaneous etc) are not taxable.

vapid:
The disparity between gross and net pay is getting ridiculous.
When I got my offer letter with a salary of 600k+, little did I know my take home was gonna be below 500k.
Tax, housing, pension, phew
What's your gross vs take home pay?
You pay 20% of your basic salary as income tax. Add that to pension deductions (usually 3-8% of your basic salary depending on the organisation) and whatever basic salary is left is added to your allowances to form your monthly take home pay.

Allowances are not taxable.

Politics › Re: Julius Berger And RCC Have Started Work On Lagos-ibadan Expressway (PHOTO) by aieromon(m): 6:04pm On Jun 11, 2016
Two construction giants — Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) — have returned to site to resume work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Reconstruction and rehabilitation works on the highway were suspended due to some issues with the Federal Government which include funding.

A NAN correspondent, who took a trip on the highway on Saturday, reports that officials of both Julius Berger and RCC were seen moving heavy equipment to sites with their men already mobilised to work on the various sections.

NAN investigations revealed that Julius Berger began work on Friday, while RCC moved to site on Tuesday.

NAN observed piles of crash barriers at Wawa, which is part of Section one from Lagos to Sagamu interchange, being handled by Julius Berger.

Also, officials of Julius Berger were seen using earth moving equipment to carry crash barriers to demarcate construction zones.

An engineer, who did not want to be named, told NAN that the demarcation was for effective traffic management.

“The New Jersey Barricades (crash barriers) will be moved to the other carriageway when we finish work on this side, it will speed up our work and at the same time help to traffic control,’’ he said.

On Section two of the project which spans from Sagamu interchange to Ibadan, RCC surveyors were seen on site, while earth moving equipment were scarifying some sections of the road.

A surveyor, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, told NAN that survey works to determine heights and depths of the highway along Km 91 on the expressway had been on for two days.

“We have covered one kilometre so far.”
Also, officials of the firm were seen deploying their equipment at Alomoja to grade the road.
An official said:”We are grading, then we will remove the rubbish and give the road stone base and mill the road.”

NAN also observed that work was in progress around Oni Garri, close to the Ibadan old toll gate and other sections of the highway.

A Federal Ministry of Works official, who was monitoring resumption of work on the road, expressed satisfaction with the prompt compliance of the firms to return to site.
“Serious work has begun and hopefully by Monday laying of asphalt will begin on the second section.”

The rehabilitation of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was awarded in 2013 at a total cost of N167 billion by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. (NAN)

Politics › Immigration Recruitment Scam: Abba Moro Overruled Jonathan, Reversed Employment by aieromon(op): 7:32am On Jun 11, 2016
A former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, David Paradang, has narrated how former Interior Minister, Abba Moro, reversed ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s directive to employ relatives of the deadly 2014 Immigration recruitment victims.

Mr. Paradang said the former minister described the employment of some family members of those who died in the stampede, as “illegal”.

Only those who were qualified for junior positions out of 45 total family members of 15 victims, were given jobs, he told a court trying Mr. Moro on Friday.

Mr. Paradang did not say the exact number of those employed. It was also unclear whether former President Jonathan was consulted by the former minister before the employment offers were cancelled.

Mr. Moro and four others are facing an 11-count charge of money laundering, arising from the conduct of the tragic recruitment.

They are accused of defrauding 676, 675 applicants of N676. 7 million being the aggregate of N1000 paid by each applicant to the recruiting agent, Drexel Nigeria Limited, a company Mr. Moro had ties with.

Despite the huge amount realized from applicants, the recruitment was poorly organised, resulting in deadly stampedes across the country.

Mr. Paradang, who is the first prosecution witness in Mr. Moro’s trial, told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday that after a presidential directive of employment to victims’ relatives, Mr. Moro ordered the withdrawal of offer letters.

“At the close of the day, we had 15 casualties and the office of the State Security Services later called to inform us that they were 165 persons injured nationally,” he told the court.

Soon after the compilation of names of victims, the service received an order from the presidency, which was flouted by Mr. Moro, Mr. Paradang said.

“Immediately after the letters were sent, the board (board of the Interior Ministry) asked them (the fresh applicants who were relatives of the deceased victims) to bring back the letters of appointment. The ministry said that the appointments given to them were illegal,” said Mr. Paradang.

Mr. Jonathan had ordered the immediate employment of three family members each victim, while a fresh recruitment was to be conducted.

The former president also handed out cheques of N5 million each to families of the deceased. It is also unclear whether the monies were cashed.
