First Bank sacked over 100 employees in July 2024, four months after discovering that Tijani Muiz Adeyinka, a manager on the operations team, allegedly diverted ₦40 billion over two years. In details first reported by TechCabal, Adeyinka, who is still on the run, used his authorisation to approve chargebacks to accounts he controlled.

Two people with direct knowledge of the matter claimed that at least 120 employees, including full-time and contract staff of First Bank’s large operations department, were given termination letters in July. The head of transactions at the time was also fired.

Those employees were accused of laxity in carrying out their duties and were told they should have spotted the fraud earlier. First Bank’s management team believed it was impossible for a fraud of that scale and timeline to have been executed without the knowledge of Adeyinka’s superiors.

Prior to this, Kingibe had complained that the FCT Minister was sidelining her and that he takes former Senator Phillip Aduda with him whenever he is going to inspect or commission projects in the FCT.

This seemed to have abated until recently when the former senator resurfaced in Wike’s entourage.

On his part, the former Rivers State governor made it clear that Aduda is his friend and that he has the right to move around with whoever he wishes. “Friendship is not by force”, Wike asserted, alleging that Kingibe is angry because she was not made the head of the Senate Committee on FCT.

This is Nigeria. Another govt can coming in reverse the law. The same supreme Court will reverse itself

“It does not happen anywhere in the world and the Nigerian Constitution in Section 2 is very clear that Nigeria is a federation of the federal (central government) and the state. it is not three-tier,”

CrystalTiger:
Any clear update about what exactly is wrong with Malacia?

Update147:
In essence, are you saying the money will be released to the local government??

Fagbemi continued that while credit must be given to the Supreme Court for providing a resounding judgment in favour of local government funds immediately going directly to the local government, there are still some issues.

He observed that local government chairmen may want to divert the funds amid state pressure. But he explained that whereas state governors enjoy immunity in office, LG chairmen do not.

He then seized the moment to issue jail threats to serving LG chairmen who divert local government funds.

He said,

“Well, we have a situation on our hands, I know that it is still there; the conduct of elections is to be undertaken by the states.

“But the distinction is this: don’t forget, the governors have immunity, the local government council chairmen or councillors, they have no immunity, so they have to choose between dealing with the funds of the local government as they like and risking going to jail. The choice is theirs (LG chairmen).

“If they want to tamper with these funds and end up in jail, it is their choice. Or if they want to write their names in letters of gold, activities like construction or upgrading of roads must return to the local government. They don’t all have to come to Abuja.

“If they stay at the local government, we will be able to reduce the level of insecurity that we have in Nigeria today. What obtains offshore is that the security agents are able to perform optimally because of information that comes to them from members of the public and usually it is from the grassroots.”

He highlighted that good governance at the local level would lead to improved security by addressing the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty, unemployment, and social injustice.

Won't be surprising if the supreme court's decision is reversed.

Good Nairalanders
It's been a while here

A frnd of mine, just finished his driving school, has been using the learner permit licence for sometime now and went to process his drivers licence.

On the document that preceeding his Biometric capturing, the class of licence that was selected for him CLASS D. For a motor vehicle driver.

It got me wondering, should we be worried?
Does it have any concerns. CLASS B should be issued instead.

Will it have any effect on the long run?
