Politics › Dariye's Impeachment: Breach Of Constitution Or Exercise Of Justice? by aikayboy(op): 7:13pm On Nov 16, 2006
personally, i'm no fan of Joshua Dariye, but i must admit i have a few issues with his removal as well as the complicity of some higher powers which were involved in his removal. i have no qualms about the claims put forth that the fellow probably looted all that cash and so on and so forth, but then it is hard to sit back and applaud his removal without considering the manner in which he was removed.

we once thought 15 out of 24 legislators was outrageous to impeach a governor as it did not reach the two-thirds majority necessary to impeach, but when u have 6 out of 24 legislators, i honestly don't know what to think again. forget the constitution, does it make sense for 6 people in a house of about 24 people to make a decision that would reflect as a collective majority opinion of the house? i don't think that is even enough to form a quorum to hold sittings in the house! they even had to sneak around to do this, suggesting that what they were doing was not entirely appropriate.

when the new Gov was sworn in he proceeded to thank the President as well as Deputy Senate Mantu for their contribution to his new exalted position. call me whateva but i think Botmang might have cleared the air on who aided him to attain this position. this coming on the heels of a statement less than two days old from the Presidency indicating that it would have nothing to do with state governments, leaving us at a loss for what to believe.

as for Dariye, good riddance to someone i believe single-handedly succeeded in ruining the reputation of Plateau state as a peaceful and homely place to reside or visit. but then we should be careful about precedents because whether we like it or not, this trnd is going to repeat itself in this country both in the near and distant future.

your comments are welcome, please.
Politics › Re: 2007: Okotie Tops Popularity Poll by aikayboy(m): 6:51pm On Nov 16, 2006
I strongly feel that the Pastor clearly one this popularity poll based on visibility alone. after all, the guy has been on air virtually week after week ever since the end of 2003 or so. he has been clearly visible, and for people who just want to vote without taking an indepth look or analysis into politics, which i feel make up some majority of Nigerians, he would definitely win a popularity poll. i would not disagree with the candidacy of Pastor Okotie based on whether he is of questionable integrity or not, but based on what innovative ideas he tends to bring into this country's leadership that could turn things around. to be quite frank, i don't buy the youth-in-government sentiment or the fine boy outlook (which is not his fault), but i would want a leader who has an idea of the heights to which this country can be taken, is firm on the ground, and has the opinions and feelings of the Nigerian populace in mind.
Phones › Re: Glo Midnight Talk by aikayboy(op): 6:35pm On Nov 16, 2006
thanks Dr. Tee for the compliments, really appreciate them. i didn't realize it formally, but MTN calls actually go faster than Glo calls at the midnight hours. it's not enough for me to switch over anyway, i appreciate Glo especially for its innovativeness. i'm still not sleeping much at night sha. am i the only one that misses my free texts?
Phones › Re: [please vote] Most Commonly Used Phones in Nigeria ... by aikayboy(m): 1:27pm On Nov 09, 2006
why are we having this discussion? i think it is clear to all of us, even from the polls that have been conducted which phone brand is and will continue to be the most commonly used in Nigeria:

ALL HAIL ALL NOKIA PHONES!!!

when it comes to aesthetics and beauty in phones, the obvious choice might be a Samsung phone, but if i want beauty, I will give a certain young woman a call. if u want beautiful sound quality, th SonyErricson is ur obvious choice, even though sound quality was the same reason why the iPod was created. now if u want functionality and durability in a phone, the Nokia has promised it will neva fail. if u want a phone u can fully customize and love-vendor to ur heart's desire, the Nokia will be there for u. i currently use a Nokia 6630 smartphone.i have also used the Nokia 6600 as well as the Nokia 3310. if u want to buy a phone, buy a phone. if u want to buy anything else,
Phones › Re: Glo Midnight Talk by aikayboy(op): 1:02pm On Nov 09, 2006
i don't know if i'm the only one that people do not call until past midnight. my phone could be so silent during the day, but at night i'm forced to plug in the charger so that i can continue a conversation. now, i also set appointments for that time of the night, so if u call me during the day, i'll be asking u if u would be awake after midnight so we can talk at length without any worries about if it is 1 minute and 59 seconds or 2 minutes and 2 seconds.

by the way, did u guys realize that Glo stops giving us free text once we switched packages? me, i don't know about u guys but i need my free text badly.
Phones › Glo Midnight Talk by aikayboy(op): 3:56pm On Nov 06, 2006
I beieve i would be right in expressing the fact that the night is no longer when men must sleep again with Glo's Midnight Talk Promo. It is a total blessing for me as all I have to do now is use one minute and ask someone to stay awake until 12 midnight and then we can talk until we run out of topics to talk about. initially, i din't believe it would work or last for that matter, but when u make a 3-hour call with only 3 naira, u know there must be a God or Glo somewhere. on average, in the last one month, i hav slept at 3.30 a.m., even if i have had to wake up at 6 a.m. to start my day. it is just a real blessing for me.

however, there hav been a lot of observed drawbacks with the Midnight Talk promo. first, and i believe most importantly, connection is almost impossible. it is like Glo is waitin for 12 midnight at which time it purposely makes it difficult for anyone to make calls at that time. up till 11:55 p.m. calls go freely and smoothly, but once it is 12, u r on ur own. it could be very upsetting at times, and i don't subscribe to the popular opinion that this is because of the volume of traffic at that time. that is just idle talk because there is no way the volume of traffic at that time could be more than at any time during the day, and yet calls are made freely and easily during the day.

another drawback is that people do not sleep at night anymore. for some of us, any hope of sleep is banished because of the amount of calls coming in at that time. interestingly, it is not just young people taking advantage of this opportunity as one of my lecturers recently asked me how to activate the feature. one night after a 3-hour discussion with a dear friend of mine, i was on the edge of unconsciousness and grogginess, when another person called me to initiate anotha conversation. i swore that if i touched that phone, let my phone catch fire. even though to be honest, i haven't allowed many people to sleep either.

please input on this issue is welcome, especially on the issue of the faulty connection. ur comments, please.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christians And Politics by aikayboy(m): 7:19pm On Oct 20, 2006
i read with much fascination the debate engaged in by TV01 and Havila. very insightful indeed. however may I say that I would support on any good day any credible Christian candidate to take the reins of power in this country. one Bible verse summarizes it for me when it says, "When the righteous are in power, the people rejoice." no one is satisfied with the state of the country right now, and it could be easily traced to the leadership of this country. any leader of this country who is not a Christian is under no obligation whatsoever to favour others above self. For Christians, we are no longer servants to the flesh so we know that we do not have to satisfy its cravings, but the unbeliever has no such knowledge, and therefore no restrictions at all.

let's really, really imagine what it would be like if the national Assembly is constituted of even 40% committed Christians. there would be a change in policy making unprecedented in this country. even for those that might blame the incumbent for being corrupt while touting himself as a Christian, I would like to say we r better of than we would have been if a person of an alternate faith was in power. The Ecumenical Centre has finally been finished, we have a Chapel within Aso Villa, as well as the few significant changes in the state of the economy and government.

there are a number of Christian runners in the race for the Presidency of this country, all of which, I must say, I have my reservations towards, but we should seriously pray for a God-fearing leader for this country. we woould be much better off that way. God bless y'all! One.

Phones › Re: Nokia, Samsung, or Motorola? by aikayboy(m): 6:15pm On Aug 15, 2006
nokia, samsumg or motorola? really depends on whaat u want in a phone.

If you want aesthetics, animated wallpaper, beautiful screensavers, Samsung would be your best choice.

If you want functionality, flexibility, customizability, in order words, your 'own' phone, Nokia is the phone you want.

If you don't want any of the two above, and you really don't like a SonyEricsson, u could buy the Motorola.
