Ace Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth, has revealed that though he is a hustler, but was pushed into comedy by his former girlfriend just to prove to her that he can actually make it in life like other successful people.

Basketmouth explained that he was doing comedy then but as an event organizer and not a top flight comedy the way he does now, noting that he does not do comedy for money but still has bills to pay at the same time.

Nigeriafilms.com monitoring the comedian's narration on his breakup with his girlfriend, watched him disclose that he had brought pop group, Plantashun boiz, to his school back then in 1998, to perform and when they came, he took his girlfriend to meet them without knowing that she was a big fan of the group especially 2Baba.

He further revealed that immediately the girl saw 2Baba, she went to sit on his laps and the singer was thinking maybe he had brought a lady for him and to his surprise, they started chatting and when he asked her to come so that they could leave, she refused stating that they should hang around for a while and that was the end of the relationship.

Speaking about fame, the comedian explained that the society as grown with a mentality that as a celebs, they must drop something for them wherever they meet these fans, noting that it has not been easy but he is cool because he can go out and get things for himself without sending anybody. “I don’t have problem giving but if we do that every day, it’s not nice and when we don’t do that it, it becomes violent.”

The 2015 elections is rather going to be an interesting one especially as the Nigerian entertainment industry has been able to produce few candidates that are aspiring for change in the country they are involved.

Two Nigerians contracted Ebola virus in
Freetown, Sierra Leone,, said the minister of

Nigeria cradles the second largest film industry in the world. Only Bollywood surpasses Nollywood in film releases per year, while Hollywood lags way behind – their production values may be enormous, but they pay for it with a comparatively paltry output. Arguably, the Nollywood film industry helps enormously to put Nigeria ahead of the game when it comes to building a worldwide perception of the nation. Just as the US in the 1930s utilized its budding cinematic industry to export awareness of its culture and issues to the rest of the world, so Nollywood may be doing the same. However, given that Nollywood’s style is somewhat unique, and that – unlike when the US was developing its cinematic style – other cultures have now become accustomed to alternative modes of cinema, how successful is Nollywood in influencing outsider perspectives of Nigeria, Nigerian culture, and Nigerian issues?

African Adoration

Across Africa, of course, Nollywood is well known and appreciated. Nollywood DVDs are exported across the continent, and provide staple entertainment for people from many hundreds of African cultures. While Nollywood stars may well have yet to attain the kind of glamour and cross-cultural acclaim that Hollywood and Bollywood stars enjoy, few people would disagree that Nigeria is fast becoming a beacon for the up-and-coming African actor, screenwriter, or director. Nollywood’s specialization in witchcraft and voodoo flicks has proven enormously popular all over Africa, and classics like the Igbo film ‘Living In Bondage’ are rightfully revered as exemplars of the genre. Nollywood is also having a profound cultural effect upon Africa as a whole – with people of many cultures emulating their favorite Nigerian stars and characters – as well as upon overall perception of Nigeria. Outside of Nigeria, it is commonly believed that Nigeria must be precisely as it is portrayed in the films. This is an often erroneous impression – and can on occasion work in a negative manner when one considers Nollywood’s predilection for voodoo and witchcraft flicks - but the glamorous nature of Nollywood settings has stood Nigeria in good stead when attracting skilled workers and investors.

Outside Of Africa

But what about outside of Africa? Well, sad to say, most Americans would look askance at you if you said the word ‘Nollywood’ and, while continental Europeans would be more likely to have an inkling of what you were talking about, very few could claim to have seen a Nollywood film, or even be able to name a Nollywood title. You may have more luck in Britain, which has a large African population, but still the majority of Brits would probably be unable to name a Nollywood star. Chinese people would be stunned to learn that Africa is home to an enormous film industry and, while Indians might be vaguely aware that it existed, they’d be unlikely to even know where to start trying to get hold of a Nollywood production. Outside of Africa, Nigeria is far more culturally known for its rich literary heritage than for its film industry. However, ignorance of the basics does not necessarily mean that the Nigerian film industry is not having an impact upon cultural perceptions of the nation. The fact that Nigeria has a film industry at all renders it an object of fascination for those in the know, and the nature of cultural transmission means that Nollywood can have an influence above and beyond that achieved simply by people watching its films.

A Nigerian Voice

Unfortunately, much of the news concerning Nigeria which reaches Europe is negative. In particular, Nigeria hits world headlines as a narcotics gateway, through which drugs like heroin pass on their way to Europe. Heroin addiction is an enormous problem in Europe – even more so than in West Africa – claiming hundreds of lives and putting thousands of people into rehab each year. ‘Gateway’ nations like Nigeria are often blamed for failing to clamp down adequately on the flow of heroin at their end, thus letting more potentially slip through the net into Europe. This does not potentially make for a particularly positive view of Nigeria in world eyes. However, a cultural outpouring like Nollywood has ensured that the view of Nigeria’s drug problem and the view of Nigerian culture and people remain nicely distinct within the public eyes, ensuring that people do not merge the two and begin to think of Nigeria as a whole as a nation of drug-pushers. Ordinary people don’t even have to be aware of Nollywood to feel its influence – the presence of a booming film industry in Nigeria lets the world media know that Nigeria has a voice, and a potentially very loud one that it will use should it feel that it is being unjustly represented. Furthermore, the intense popularity of Nigerian film within Africa means that, whether they know it or not, a lot of the ‘African’ culture which reaches Europe and America is in fact Nigerian culture – thanks to Nollywood, Nigerian culture has become the predominant and strongest African culture to reach far-flung shores.

Growing Influence

There’s a lot of evidence that Nollywood will shortly be getting the fully-focused attention that it deserves on the world stage. There has been a considerable amount of interest in Nollywood from certain American actors and directors, who either have invested or seem likely to invest in Nollywood productions. Films like ‘Doctor Bello’ even feature Hollywood actors, and seek to introduce Nigerian cinema to a wider world audience. This trend is burgeoning, and looks set to continue. Before long. Nigeria could find itself not only on of the cultural hubs of Africa, but one of the hubs of world culture as a whole.

One Aminat Akani is currently cooling her feet
in police custody after been arrested for
drowning a four-year-old girl, Nofisat, the
only daughter of her lover, Moshood Mubo.
The 24-year-old hair stylist confessed that
she killed the baby to teach her lover a lesson
for getting her pregnant without providing for
her and her child, Yussuf.


Born and bred in Ibadan, Oyo State, Aminat
was said to have lured her lover’s two kids,
Nofisat and Lateef, to her house in the Orile
area of Lagos when her lover and father of her
only child, Yussuf refused to give her money
for the recent Sallah celebration.


Realising that Nofisat was dead under a
circumstance yet to be proved, she disposed of
her and proceeded to Lagos Island with Lateef
but luck run out on her when
she was arrested on October 9, 2014 by the
police as relatives, who knew that the children
were missing, spotted her in the market while
she was about to sell off the second child,
Lateef.


“I am a hairdresser. I normally go to Isale Eko
to make hair at the hairdressers stand. This
was where I met Moshood in 2011. He is the
dream of every woman and naturally I was
attracted to him, and he was so generous. I do
not need to come to the market regularly
because he was always providing me enough
money. He told me that he is married but as a
Muslim that he is entitled to marry more than
one wife.


“I was happy to have found a man who loves
me, that was why I had sex with him without
condom. Months later, I got pregnant. Initially,
he was not happy about it, but later promised
to marry me which he never did till date.


“My parents were furious, but he assured them
that he would come and perform the marriage
rites as soon as he gets money. It was then I
realized that this man who had been spending
money on me was not actually rich. He was
barely surviving from the proceeds of his
shop,” Aminat narrated.


Since the damage (getting pregnant) has been
done, Aminat had no choice but to resign to
her fate and bear the child. “It was too late to
abort the child, so I decided to manage what
was on ground. He rented a room for me at
Orile. Things got worse as he could hardly
give me the normal amount of money that he
gave me while we were dating. I even had to
start visiting his house, so that his wife,
Fumilayo will know that I am also part of the
family.


This was how I became familiar with two of
his children, Lateef and Nofisat. He was living
like a big man in a well furnished house while
I was isolated and neglected. After the birth of
my baby, Yusuf who is two years old, I did
everything humanly possible for him to come
and pay my bride price so that I can move in
and live with him but he refused. I even tried
to lure him to have sex with me so that I can
get pregnant but he was avoiding me
completely. He abandoned us in Orile and
hardly sends money for our upkeep.

“I had to work hard to maintain myself and
our son, Yusuf. I was so sad because he had
spoilt my chances of getting married to
another man. On October 3, 2014 which was a
day before the Ileya festival, I called him to
request for money to celebrate the festival. He
told me that he did not have money, even to
buy a new cloth for his son, Yusuf. I was so
angry and moved over to his house at Church
Street later in the evening. Although he saw
me with my son, he went ahead to ask me to
go home that he does not have a dime for me
and my son. It’s his flesh and blood, so why
should he abandon us?”, she asked.

Embittered, Aminat devised a means of getting
back at her lover, Moshood. “I saw the kids
outside and since they knew me, I told them
that I was to take them to market to buy Ileya
clothes for them. They gladly followed me. I
wanted to teach their father a lesson he will
never forget in a hurry. I was happy that he
was moving up and down and spending money
looking for the children. I wanted him to spend
that money that he refused to give me. I was
still planning to return the kids when on
Wednesday, October 8, 2014 I realised that
Nofisat was no longer breathing.

“I was terrified because I knew that I would be
termed a murderer. I had to compose myself
and throw her dead body into a pool of water
in our area. The story should be that she got
drowned.”

Grateful to God that she has got rid of the
dead child, Aminat decided to also get rid of
Lateef who is about 7 years old. “Even if I
returned Lateef home, he would tell them that
Nofisat was with us and I will be arrested. I
decided to move him to CMS and sell him. We
were at CMS when one woman recognized
Lateef and started shouting. I was arrested
and taken to Adeniji Adele police station.

“I am sorry, although my plea will not bring
back Nofisat. I took them away to teach
Moshood a lesson. Why was he taking care of
Nofisat and Lateef while my son was suffering
as a result of neglect? My anger was that if he
knew that I was not good enough for him, why
did he get me pregnant? I am happy that
Moshood is not ready to follow up this case
which means that I will soon be released.

Fumilayo should learn to forgive me so that
God will give her another child to replace the
one that is dead. I am sorry”, she pleaded.


Asked if her family was aware of the incident,
Aminat said that her father is aware and has
been pleading with Moshood to withdraw the
case.

Whille confirming the incident, Lagos State
police command spokesman, DSP Kenneth
Nwosu assured that the suspect will be
charged to court at the end of investigation.

Adenike reportedly gave birth to the baby on Sunday at Evangelical Church of Cherubim and Seraphim, located at Pipeline Road, Mafon area, Ejigbo, Lagos during church service.

Narrating her story, Mrs Kolawole said, “When I found out I was pregnant, I was happy but at the same time, I was observing my normal menstrual cycles."

The woman said she waited endlessly to deliver, but to no avail, so she relocated to Lagos to seek for help. The search for spiritual solution eventually brought took her to the church where she eventually delivered the baby.

“I was at the church service when I noticed that water was coming from my private part and I went to a room to check what was happening, before I knew it, the baby came out alive. I raised alarm which attracted church members who assisted me to deliver the baby,“ she added.

The baby’s father, Mr. Kayode said he did not believe his wife for a long time when she claimed she was pregnant because he had waited in vain. He said he was grateful to God for what he had done and thanked well wishers for their support.

Comedian Julius Agwu is gunning for the Rivers State Governorship elections in 2015. This is not a joke.

The diminutive entertainer has since revealed that the calls from his people to run for the seat of Rivers State Governor prompted his decision to wade into politics.

“Becoming the governor of Rivers State was not something that came up overnight. It was not on my radar back then. The people of Rivers State in the Diaspora and those in the State have been clamouring for me to come out as an aspirant. They believe I have what it takes to go for it. Veteran Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo who recently declared his political ambition is currently worried and the reason is not far fetched.

The Enugu State born popular actor is not in a good mood not because he’s no longer getting scripts as an actor, but simply because the character he played in that foremost movie, Living in Bondage, is seriously posing a big challenge to him.

Kenneth opened up that 'Andy' has really overshadowed his real names. He said that after playing “Andy” in that classic movie, people hardly know him any more as Kenneth Okonkwo.

This, he said, has become a very big problem to him, even as he has declared his intention to go into politics. “I will have to sensitize the voters and make sure that they are familiar with the name Kenneth Okonkwo and not Andy before the general election.”

For callously divorcing his wife of 13-years after infecting her with the dreaded Human Immune Virus (HIV), a middle-aged man has been ordered to re-marry her or face the consequences.

This was the verdict of an upper Shari’a court sitting at Sabon Gari, after the case was brought before it by the aggrieved wife.

The husband by name, Abdullahi Ahmad was dragged to the court by ex-wife Umma Usman, who told the court that the defendant had divorced her and asked her to vacate his house after infecting her with the dreaded disease.

The victim informed the honourable court that both have been living together as a couple for about 13 years and that she had several children with him before she later found out that he is HIV/AIDs positive.

The court also heard that the defendant issued the hapless woman a divorce letter knowing fully that he infected her with the disease.

Umma is praying the court to quash the divorce issued to her by her husband and compel him to re-marry her since he is the one that infected her.

In his verdict, the Judge, Malam Farouk Ahmad, granted the complainant’s plea, canceled the divorce issued to her by the husband and ordered him to immediately re-marry her.

Judge Ahmad said under Islamic Shari’a Law, "it is binding on the husband to stay with the woman for the rest of his life being the one responsible for her getting an infection that has no known cure."

He ordered him to take good care of the woman henceforth.

Popular actors Hafeez Oyetoro popular known by his fans as Saka has advised youths to work hard and avoid shortcuts to success.

The thespian sounded this note of advice to youths during an interview with Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) recently. “The youths of today should be focused because there is no shortcut to success; just work hard and be patient because it pays," he said during the TV interview.

Mr Oyetoro in the interview also commended the Nigerian movie industry practitioners, saying that the standards now are better than what it used to be. “The industry is better now better than what it used to be. In terms of its picture quality, sound, lightening, graphics and other aspect of filmmaking, everything has improved massively,” Saka also said.
