We are talking about quality of teams in contention and Man city amassed those points because other big teams were on a decline. In fact, Man city were exposed by Liverpool in UCL, they got sodomised home and away.

Chelsea made 95 points. Those two teams didn't get knocked out early in UCL like that Man city team you are hyping. So they had to adjust to the demands of playing UCL knockout matches and Epl.

Man utd team of 99 were the best in Epl and in Europe that year. They were so good that they destroyed your team in one of the most memorable UCL finals in history. But, that Man city team of 2017/2018 got destroyed by Liverpool, home and away in the UCL.

Chelsea team of 2004/2005 only lost one Epl match with just 15 goals conceded in a season, while Man city of 2017/2018 conceded 27 goals and lost 2 matches.

Also, Chelsea got knocked out of Ucl in the semis, in a controversial fashion that people still talk about till today. Man city of 20172018 were disgraced out of UCL, a non-local tournament by an Epl team.
