nihilistjnr: All the Muslims are like that... especially those Somali boys.
Once you see a Somali guy in your team, you know that you guys are going to fight, because these mofos no dey ever pass the ball. That's true o. I just remember one Somali winger too. He would want to dribble everybody including the goal post. He wouldn't even look your side after fumbling. |

Ibime: I was the opposite when I played striker. I liked them to hit me straight away with long ball or channel ball, let me do the dribbling straight to goal. My favourite team mate was our right-back cos when he get the ball, it's straight ball down the channel.
Meanwhile we had one skillful Moroccan boy in midfield. Anytime he plays, they would just be enjoying themselves playing pam-pam passes in midfield wasting my time while I'm waiting for ball. I'd rather you give me a 50:50 ball every two minutes than try to give me a clean ball every 10 minutes Morrocans like to showboat a lot in the midfield. I played with some of them when i was in Dubai. They were annoying with the ball. They actually told me Okocha was their best Nigerian player, because of his bag of tricks. My style of play is like Martins', but i will say i could dribble more than him as i started as a right winger. Before i leave nairaland, i will drop one gif of one of my goals. |

simonjassy: You said it can't be faulted because it is not "criminal" that it is a religious practice. I only joined the convo to explain to you that something being a religious activity does not exclude it from being or not being a crime.Butressing my point i.e criminality is determined by the "laws of the land" rather than religious activities, except in cases where the religion is the law (theocracy) ,by using the killing of twins as an example.I apologise if i have caused any misunderstanding. Though,it is a religious practice,it was "criminalized" I didnt say this. Some rituals in traditional religion, require human blood. I will be foolish to say they are not criminal. What i said was that we could fault killing of twins, because it was criminal, unlike Tithing. |

Exactly. If you dribble an opponent in a vital area, you have given your team a crucial numerical advantage. Pele, Maradona, Messi, C. Ronaldo, say no more. |

It is a crime to drive a dirty car in Russia, but here in Nigeria many vehicles that are not roadworthy ply the roads. Hope You Get The Point. We were actually addressing why tithe couldnt be faulted, the way killing twins would be. Refer to my earlier convo with Dayo, to understand the origin and my point. |

simonjassy: I beg to differ, killing of twins at one point in the history of nigeria was not criminal, but it is today. criminality is determined by the laws of the land and not some religious tenet, except in a theocracy. Don't take us to 1800s, when there was no federation called Nigeria, operating using a constitution. We are talking about things happening now, so we can't bring things that stopped, almost 2000 yrs ago. airmark: You are always forgetful.

Where are they killing twins now, to start with? You would just bring unreasonable things. No pastor should do what is against the law of the land. Tithing is a religious belief that is not criminal, by law. So it shouldn't be faulted and called a fraud. |

Let them withdraw now, you will start hearing about BKH/ISWAP launching attacks and fleeing into Chad when the military are on the offensive. No be today. So you want a Chad that dont have the financial muscle, to keep hold of territories they seized from boko haram, so as to continue to bleed financially for an unserious Nigeria? No sane president will do that for Nigeria. I had told you that Chad needed cash from Nigeria, as it can easily be seen that without them we are paper tiger to boko haram. izzou: Raumdeuter, let me just drop these two stories here. They are the experiences of two people I know...One is my uncle, the other is a colleague where I worked. I actually did not believe them sha, but it did happen to them. So whether I believe or not doesn't matter. It did work ************************************************** I have this uncle of mine. He's the richest in my extended family. He imports in one of the markets in Lagos. In fact, he's a known name in that market. A multimillionaire to be specific.
This man is religious and so believes in tithing. To the extent that his sales girls must calculate his tithes from every day's sales and pay it in the bank that day. If they make any sale after they've paid, they will add it to the next day. He has a particular bank account for his tithes.
Now me, I'm not a consistent tither. I pay when I want and if I want. But when I discuss with my uncle. He tells me
"If you know where and what tithing has done and taken me to, you won't ask me to stop"
So what should I do? Argue with him that it's a lie? It's his experience. It's his testimony. I don't believe in it doesn't change the fact that he saw something in it.
Second story
In my previous place of work, one of the secretaries was my friend. We talked and all that. So one day, we were discussing about spirituality, and I said I don't believe in Witchcraft ( truly o don't). S
She laughed and told me I know nothing. She told me her story. She has only one child: a girl. She was barren for 17 years....17 good years. There was no form of healthcare they didn't try, but they could find nothing. They even tried surrogacy but it failed.
Until one day, a relative called for her and started confessing of how she is the cause of her not giving birth. And pleaded for forgiveness. The next year, she gave birth. She had her only child at the age of 43. Showed me pics and everything
So do I argue with her? Or .......
I didn't believe in Witchcraft, but here was someone it happened to.
Like I said, because you don't believe in something doesn't make it false. Let everybody do what they feel works for them
This life sometimes cannot be explained Thanks for sharing this. |

raumdeuter: If a society believes some people are harmful to the collective wellbeing of the general population they can be justifiably killed
That is why BokoHaram or a potential suicide bomber can be shot dead without it being a crime Boko haram have been proscribed by the state and soldiers/police are empowered by law to arrest or kill their group members. The collection of tithes is not yet illegal, so don't juxtapose it with killing of twins or any criminal act. Until a law backs the killing of twins, it's illegal to kill them. |

There are many givers who lack
There are many who dont give that never lack. Not everybody gets his riches from God. Eguavoen made me sad in 1994. He was tall, quick, rugged but didn’t have the best decision making. Yobo and Equavoen played the same 3 positions (RB,CB,DM). I go with Yobo.
Mine:
.........................,.......Rufai.......................... ....Yobo......Okechukwu.....Taribo.....Babayaro.. ................................Oliseh......................... ..................Odegbami .......Okocha......... .....Finidi..................Yekini.........Amuneke.......
I know Odegbami was a RW but had to fit him in there somehow. That 1980 deserved a shoutout LOL. He was the best player in a Nations Cup winning team(our first), scoring 2 goals in the final against a team with Belloumi and Madjer.
The first half of Okocha was a showboater but the showboating reduced towards the later part of his career. Oruma at his peak was probably a much better fit for the national team but he was criminally sidelined for Okocha, partly because of the fans. Who told you this? Chairman of defence was the best player. Odegbami was just the highest goal scorer of the tournament, with 3 or 4 goals. Both were our best players of that era, why i put them in my team. |

Who can forget his outstanding performance away in the draw in Algiers that ensured we qualified for World Cup. The guy made a save diving backwards like he is doing backflip.
Forget all those qualifiers against Kenya or Burundi, whatever. You may be seeing some dribbles that shak you as a primary school kid but if you watch it now as an adult, you'll probably say he is playing nonsense. All I know is Etim Esin never made Algeria 90 squad, never made Senegal 92 squad, is it USA 94 squad that he will make? When his juniors like Oliha, Elahor, Adepoju have already passed him and have been playing for Eagles since like 1990. That's why i said village people were on his case. The Etim Esin i knew would bench those you mentioned based on skillset. For Algiers 90, it was reported that Lokeren didnt release him. He missed other cups due to his rape case. I hope you know Etim Esin would have been turning 28 years old in 1994.
Newspapers just hyped him up in our psyche as a cautionary tale of talent gone astray that made us believe he was a great lost talent, and that had an effect of making him look greater than he was.
The truth is he was already 27 in 1994 and had not achieved anything in Senior men's Eagles. They just remembered him from WYC 1987 no different from Chrisantus, Rabiu Ibrahim and co who shine at that level and do not transition to men's team.
Adepoju and Amokachi who came on youth football scene in 1989 were already playing for Senior Eagles by 1990, (Amokachi was promoted straightaway) while newspapers made you believe a 27 year old Etim Esin would be the next big thing in 1994, when he has been around since WYC 1987 without making any senior impact. I wanted to say nations cup qualifiers. I watched him and he was a great midfielder. This is not what i read in newspapers. |
