The general rule is that the women of warriors become captives. Thus, he chose Safiyyah may Allaah be pleased with her. Thereafter, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) presented Islam to her, and she accepted it willingly. Then the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) manumitted her and married her and her Mahr (bridal dowry) was her manumission.
