TravelUkvi Refusal Letter by ajaniagbe(op): 4:48pm On May 29, 2025
Reasons for Decision
Your application has been refused for the following reason(s):
You attended an interview on 14/05/2025 in connection with your application for entry
clearance. You were asked a series of questions in connection with your plans to
study in the UK to establish whether you are a genuine student as required by
paragraph ST5.1 of the Immigration Rules.
I have considered your application and circumstances in the round, including the fact
that you have been issued with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, in
accordance with published guidance. However, I am not satisfied on the balance of
probabilities that you are a genuine student. Consideration has been to the following:
When asked your reasons for wanting to study in the UK you stated: “The UK
because they have very high academic excellence and high-quality education, very
multicultural and professional in teaching and the UK has intentional exposure and it
is closer to Nigeria the UK degrees are short not like the USA and Canada it is longer
and in Nigeria it takes 3-4 years.” Albeit I acknowledge you have also considered the
USA and Canada for your further studies the response above is very short and
generic, and could also be applied to many other countries, I am therefore not
satisfied that the above response demonstrates any in-depth knowledge of or
research into your reasons of wishing to study in the UK.
When questioned about your future career you stated: “I am a quality control
manager and I oversee the production of drinks and ice cream and yoghurt, so after I
get my degree I will return and pick up a role in project management to advance my
career and apply the knowledge I get from the UK, and also there is opportunity to
have this vacancy in my company.” Your answer is again very generic and shows
you haven’t conducted thorough research into your employment opportunities in your
home country. A genuine student would conduct research around the advantages of
their chosen course and how this would help them achieve their career goals. You
have failed to provide a sufficient response which leads me to doubt you are a
genuine student.
When questioned about the research you have performed prior to your studies
overseas you stated: “Yes, I did it on the internet and I checked the portal of the
university, and I saw the amazing offer for intentional student.” The interviewer then
asked you if you could add anything else to the research you have performed, to
which you replied: “Yeah I research as it has high reputation theoretical and practical
aspect which is important for project manager and the intentional exposure is very
important to me.” I am not satisfied those answers demonstrated you have
conducted a reasonable amount of research into your studies. It is reasonable to
expect a genuine student to have conducted a wide range of research using multiple
sources. Studying abroad is a large investment of time and finances and therefore
making the right decision is crucial. As you were unable to show this, I am not
satisfied in your credibility as a genuine student and your intention of travelling to the
UK for the purpose of study.
I am therefore not satisfied you are a genuine student, and I refuse your application
under paragraph ST 5.1 of the Immigration Rules.
