kambo: luck, if any such stuff exists, shud b a random occurence not a reactive one . But unbelievers will seek to explain away supernatural thngs anyway they can. Mor like tryg to counter by all means possble wat they dnt want to believe in. An event occurg only after a prior event has occured is connected and caused by d prior event. So the later event is a consequence not random occurrence. E.g the poster was transfixed by the electric current and cudnt pull free by his willpower, he was initially mute and yet he was still being shocked away but after he screamed Jesus he was freed immediately. Was he free as a result of screamg a wrd or did electricity just decide to let him off? Most things are attributable to luck and not divine intervention. If it were divine intervention, born agains and Pentecostals will be living far better lives than non believers. There is no empirical evidence that this is the case Pentecostals are not generally healthier than the rest of the population. They are also not free from diseases and ailments Pentecostals are not immune to human and natural tragedies Pentecostals do not generally live longer than unbelievers. The Japanese live the longest on earth and most of them do not even beleive in Jesus "Miracles" are not limited to Pentecostals as all humans in one way or another have benefitted from extraordinary good fortune or "miracles" |

DrummaBoy: All I was hearing myself do was screaming on top of my voice. But something strange happened: I suddenly saw myself flung from the gate to the ground about two meters away. As I was landing I was hearing myself screaming 'JESUS...' Now, the reason why that was strange to me is that I detest it when people call the name of the Lord in vain and so as a rule I don't do it. I may say 'Father' or even 'Holy Spirit' but not Jesus. But somehow it seem to me that while I was screaming, the name Jesus came from my inner most being and I let it out of my mouth, and immediately the gate let me go.
I gathered myself up from the ground. My wife and neighbours where asking what happened. After about a minute I explained I had been electricuted.
It had rained for some four days running in Ibadan, the electric conduit powering the security light by the gate was filled with water and this afternoon the whole gate was electrified. Is this divine intervention or are the volts on the gate not strong enough to kill you? while you had a lucky escape it's a bit foolhardy to attribute every piece of good fortune to the intervention of the almighty. |

There are some words that are common to certain languages in Nigeria. Where do you think the origin of this words are and who started it first
e.g
Rice
Igbo - Osikapa Idoma - Osikapa Hausa - Shinkafa.
I am inclined to believe that Osikapa is a corruption of the word Shinkafa. as its more than likely the Hausas had access to rice before the Igbos and Idomas. Do you know the origin of Shinkafa or do you have any similar words that are related in other languages |

Jarus: Some of us had ruled out any chance of making it through to the semis since the blow of final whistle in the match against Uruguay, but Nigerians, known to be incurable optimists, gave them a chance. Well, none of the two permutations came to pass: Spain put three past us, Uruguay pummeled Tahiti. And out the Eagles found themselves. Yet, the match against Spain wasn’t an entirely bad game for the Eagles, the embarrassing scoreline notwithstanding.
How Eagles performed versus Spain: 1, Enyeama: Saved us from what could have been a monumental embarrassment as, but for him, Eagles could have conceded up to six. Decent game, although he could have also done better stopping one the goals. 6/10 2, Echiejile: Our left back had an average game, although he was outrun and beaten on few occasions by Spanish trademark square-passing. I think he has convinced me that he’s as good as, perhaps better than, Taiye Taiwo, although for competition sake, TT should also be recalled, even if as second choice in that wing. 5/10 3, Oboabona: The La Furia Rojers were too much for him. Caught in the middle of their effective short passes on many occasions, but he was still able to dispossess them of the ball a couple of times. Decent showing, although he could have done better in the first goal. 6/10 4, Kenneth Omeruo: Hard and business-minded as usual. Tough, yet professional tackling. He was having a decent game before he copped injury. 6/10 5, Ambrose: He didn’t overlap much in this match. Sometimes beaten by the swift-footed Spanish forward. 5/10 6, Ogude: Not much was seen of him. This one pass his hard tackles. Neatly rounded on an occasion by a Spanish midfielder I can’t recall. Had a quiet game, probably because of the style of the Spaniards. 4/10 7, Sunday Mba: Did decently to support Mikel in the midfield. He also made a fantastic run at goal before the close of first half. He soon fizzled out in second half and replaced with John Ogu. 6/10 8, Mikel: When you have Xavi and Iniesta as opposition’s midfielders, nobody will give you any chance of making any impact in the midfield. But Mikel actually did, even if the two midfield marshals still held grip of the centre. Mikel held his own against the two veterans. His passes were better than previous matches and reached destination. He exuded confidence remiscent of his under-20 days, making daring runs in the midfield, sometimes beating up to 3 Spanish players. Good game. But water pass garri. 8/10 9, Musa: He played more purposeful football in this match. He freed his Kano pillar former homeboy, Gambo Mohammed with a through pass on one occasion, after waltzing his way through Spanish left and centrebacks, but the Kano man, probably overwhelmed by the occasion , wasted what could have been a consolation goal for the Eagles. 7/10 10, Ideye: He needs to work on his first touch. By now, it is clear that he does better when he plays as a supporting striker, like he did at AFCON. 4.5/10 11, Akpala: He didn’t do much upfront. Ramos clipped his and Ideye’s wings and our lively occasions in front came from Musa in the wings. 4/10 http://jarushub.com/2013/06/24/player-rating-nigeria-vs-spain/ Jarus Keep up the good work I know this is maybe being greedy, however will it be possible to also do a rating for the opposing team so we can put the performance of the eagles in perpective? what this ensures is that we can assess our team's performance relative to our opponent. So if for instance you are scoring Ogude 4/10 I will not expect you to score Xavi more than 5/10 and if you score Mikel 8/10 then I will be expecting Iniesta to score 10.5/10 |

ow11: People are being a bit unfair to Musa, I'd rate him average (5). However, I learnt that the Eagles can create chances and are trying to be clever with goalscoring plus the following:
1. Emenike and possibly any of Gambo Mohammed/Sibi Gwar/Kalu Uche/Ikechukwu Uche would solve our striker crisis
2. Ideye works best as a support striker with his amazing movement.
3. Joel Obi needs to return to help Mikel who himself needs to move to a club where his Pirlo-like attributes would be polished to world class standard. I would prefer if Mikel moved to Fiorentina/Napoli/Athletico Madrid rather than Galatasaray or remain at Chelsea.
4. We still need a RB. Maybe Kwambe should try to play or if NFF can convince Leon Balogun/Thiago Illori (unlikely) to don the green of Nigeria.
5. Echiejile is getting more confident and needs one more injury free season to make NIgerians happy
6. Keshi needs to get rid of Ogude, Akpala and Ujah and maybe let us see what Sone Aluko and Lukman Haruna can bring to this team
7. Enyeama; Ambrose, Echiejile, Oboabona, Omeruo; Onazi, Mikel, Obi; Ideye, Emenike, Moses should start our next qualifier if all are available. There is nothing Haruna Lukman will bring to the team that we don't already have. Next thing somebody will ask for Macaulay Chrisantus |

Jarus: CIV is not an average side. Player for player, they match top European national teams. Drogba, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, Gervinho, Saloman Kalou, Arthur Boka are players that have played in the biggest clubs in world football. Please read what is wrote well. I said CIV was the only half decent team in the competition. In CAN 2013 they were not world beaters in any shape of form. Drogba, Kalou and Kolo toure were and are still in decline. Gervinho is an ok player he is not world class. The only world class player they have in that team is Yaya Toure |

DailyNews: I was disappointed last night, amidst all effort I made not to sleep off in order to catch the full glimpse of the game that ended in a heartbreak.
Honestly, Super Eagles need a sharp striker with the following skills:
1. Dribbling at high speed 2. Fast pace like Cristiano Ronaldo/Arjen Robben/Bale
And we also need to learn how to use wings like Man U and Bayern Munich. Wingers play a vital role in soccer, but unfortunately we hardly utilize our wings.
Can't Nigeria ever have strikers like: Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba or at least Fabregas pls? Is high time Keshi look for a fast paced striker with excellent dribbling skills to convert goals for us.
Enough of those passing ball front and back pls....still under the shock. Sighs The national team is not a club side. You can't just go out and buy players. You try and get the best out of what you have |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Vs Uruguay - Player Rating by Ajasnoop: 10:41am On Jun 21, 2013 |
Jarus: Again, Super Eagles’ attacking inefficiency and Uruguayan defenders’ tactical discipline saw Nigeria technically crashing out of Confederation Cup. The Eagles, who were dominated in the opening minutes of the game would later go on to give a gdecent account of themselves in the match with the South American champions. How they played: 1, Enyeama: Although the goals were hardly his fault, the manner he concedes in almost every match for Nigeria (including against Super minnows like Tahiti, Namibia, Malawi, Kenya) calls to question his continued claim to Nigeria’s goal post. He can do better. 5/10 2, Echiejile: He could have also done better with his overlapping runs. Overlapping to initiate attack and losing final ball is not exactly the hallmark of a modern left back. If he knows he can’t do that, he should have stayed at the back jejely. Average performance. 5/10
3, Oboabona: Decent showing for an home-based against world class strikers, although not his best day. Less active than his defence partner. 5.5/10 4, Omeruo: Coming of age. A good showing against one of the strongest attack line in the world. He intercepted ball many times. He was helpless in Forlan’s goal, although I believe he could have charged the former Man U striker better. 7/10 5, Ambrose: Like his left side partner, his recovery rate when he overlaps is poor, exposing the central defenders. He did decently to assist the attack team though, especially when the wingers were fumbling. 5.5/10 6, Ogude: His raw tackles continued and almost got a card. After that, he was hardly seen. He is not able to take his chance to prove himself in the golden absence of his competitor, Onazi. 4/10 7, Ogu: Assisted Mikel in the midfield and made it possible for the Chelsea man to make daring moves forward. He later went into oblivion though. 6/10 8, Mikel: Easily Nigeria’s best player on the field. He showed his class, proved the difference between a Chelsea first team player and backwater league players. He was outstanding, commanded the midfield, despite the Uruguayans having more men in the midfield. What’s more, he scored world class goal. His lowpoint was a couple of critical indecision in the second half. 8/10 9, Oduamadi: Hacked down within first twenty minutes. Struggled as he did, he couldn’t make an impact in the game again. Unfortunately, those were the first minutes of the game the South Americans dominated the game. Prabably he could have converted, were he to be around when Nigeria began creating chances. 4/10 10, Ideye: He continues to disappoint those of us that have confidence in his ability, and prove critics right. For someone that scored 17 league goals in Ukraine this season, it was a bad outing. A golden chance he saw in the second half was also lost when he was not able to guide the ball well for the crucial turning. 3/10 11, Musa: Again, all run, no substance. His final ball remained poor. Bad crosses. Worse, he gave away ball that resulted in the second goal. 3/10
http://jarushub.com/2013/06/21/player-rating-nigeria-vs-uruguay/ Did you actually watch the match? as someone said earlier you rated players out of emotion and sentiment rather than their actual contribution. To rate Musa as a 3 is totally absurd. He was our most effective player in the first half and I agree he fizzled out in the second. Ideye was ok. He didn't set the stadium alight but he merits at least a 5 It is important that we understand the limitations of our National Team. A team where John Obi Mikel is the most influential player is a pretty average team. Yes we won the Africa Cup of Nations, but the teams were very poor. We were able to beat the only half decent team Ivory Coast and that is why we are champions. The team's weaknesses and limitations were exposed against a very average and ageing Uruguay side. We lacked that cutting edge and maturity that comes with age and experience. The defenders are OK bordering on good but the defence can be shambolic and naive. We lack imagination in the final third and without Victor Moses and Emenike we will always struggle. Perhaps the biggest drawback of the team is the bench. Babatunde and Akpala are not national team players However, I am very optimistic about this present crop of Super Eagles and they are destined for greatness and will come good. The caveat is that we keep the current coaching set up. Keshi is definately on the right track and is building the team organically. We do not need prima donnas like Osaze, Yakubu or even Obafemi to upset the team balance. This is a young crop of players and the official average age of the team is about 22; in real terms it is closer to 24. we can get 4 to 5 good years from these players and the fantastic thing is that apart from Enyeama and maybe Mikel, the other players have a lot of scope for improvement. So I believe the only way is up let us keep the faith and not succumb to any knee jerk reactions |

Christianity Etc › What Comparative Advantage Do Pentecostal/born Again Christians Have? by Ajasnoop(op): 5:00pm On Jun 20, 2013 |
I was born into a catholic family and I will best describe myself as an Orthodox Christian. I have experimented with Pentecostal/Evangelical Christianity and it didn't really do anything for me.
I reasoned that
1. Pentecostals are not necesarily better people as there are very good people everywhere in the world even places where people do not believe in Christ.
2. Pentecostals are not more prosperous than other people. There are prosperous people in all spheres of belief
3. Pentecostals are not generally healthier than the rest of the population. They are also not free from diseases and ailments
4. Pentecostals are not immune to human and natural tragedies
5. Pentecostals do not generally live longer than unbelievers. The Japanese live the longest on earth and most of them do not even beleive in Jesus
6. "Miracles" are not limited to Pentecostals as all humans in one way or another have benefitted from extraordinary good fortune or "miracles"
7. There is no empirical evidence or proof that there are more Pentecostals in heaven or that eternity is guaranteed if you are born again
8. There is no proof that born agains or pentecostals are happier or more satisfied with their lives that people who do not subcribe to their beliefs
with all this I wonder what is the main advantage of being born again and what is it that set you apart from others? |

chess guru: Nigerians and their lack of objectivity. Would it hurt so much if some people could for once in their myopic lives view things through multiple angles instead of J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ one way. A lot of people are complaining about the performance, of which they do have a point (cos d eagles actually sucked), but the match against tahiti was never going to be the test of these boys...even if they scored 100 goals against them, it wouldn't have mattered if they loose to Uruguay. The match against Uruguay should be used as the real yardstick. 2ndly, for crying out loud, these guys traveled over more than 2 continents and different time zones for God knows how many hours only to arrive 9 hours before a match. Has any of you one track minded posters asked if they had a decent practice b4 the match? How many players were still suffering from jetlag? These guys are programs or machines nah!! Its clear they were playing in their default mode, and not as a team, and still managed to score 6 goals...abeg give d boys a break. Finally, since most of our people suffer from short term memory impediment, I would like to refer us back to the nations cup. Anybody that watched (and believed) the SE would tell you that this team is a BIG MATCH team. Meaning they can up their game when the time or the challenge is right. J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ as in the group stage in the ANC, where wey appeared to struggle with ethiopia, but where on a different level with ivory cost and mali, so also I believe these guys will play a different game against spain and Uruguay. Let's J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ be grateful for what we have and support our boys abeg......spain might have 99% possession, and not even score up to 4 against tahiti sef Silly excuses. They should arrive on time and prepare well for a tournament. They were below par. whether Tahiti is a small team or the SE are a big match team is largely inconsequential. the fact they were poor against Tahiti does not make them a bad team over night. However, we should call a spade a spade and agree they were below par on the night |
