Politics / One Year Of Ascension: PMB Extols Ooni Ogunwusi’s Virtues by AjayiWrites2: 4:41pm On Dec 11, 2016
President Muhammad Buhari on Saturday described the one year tenure of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) as a milestone worthy of celebration.

We know that a lot has gone into this. It is not a matter of age but the fact that you are blessed to do so.

“We hope that in your many years on the throne, we will witness more advancement of the entire Yoruba land, Nigeria and everywhere we have Yorubas.

“Many are celebrating you in cub, Brazil and all over places where you have your children around. We appreciate your contribution to our development.”

Education / Nigerian University Dump Hundreds Of Final Year Students Thesis/project In Trash by AjayiWrites2: 5:07pm On Dec 04, 2016
According to a facebook user, He took to his page to lament what an un-named university did by trashing out hundreds of students final year projects.. According to him, He said..

In your final year in the university it is compulsory you write a 'final year project' which is a test of your ability to do research. You are to formulate hypothesis, review related literature, sometimes you do interviews, surveys and other research techniques, which may include both present and historical information. The result of your research work can be used for further research works either to support it or to disagree with it. Most university undergraduates today, don't even bother to do a proper research work , they copy from old projects and change the identity of the owners. That is by the way. Look at this photo, posted by Franklin Okechukwu Onwubiko. For a university, an academic institution to throw away the project findings of her finale year students, this is the end of education in Nigeria. Why go to school, why do research if it will not be used to benefit the society? I am appealing pls any university that wants to throw away things like this should donate it to CRIMMD Library, we will be glad to keep the rubbish.

Politics / Nigeria Joins African Union Campaign To End Child Marriage by AjayiWrites2: 10:09pm On Nov 30, 2016
Women's rights activists on Wednesday urged Nigeria to accelerate efforts to end child marriage after it joined an African Union (AU) campaign to eliminate the practice.

Nigeria launched this week a nationwide drive to end child marriage by pushing for policies that protect girls' rights and help the justice system to punish perpetrators, becoming the 16th country to join the AU's campaign.
The government made child marriage illegal in 2003, but only two-thirds of the country's 36 states have implemented the law.

At least four in 10 girls in Nigeria are married off before they turn 18, while almost a fifth are wed before they reach 15, according to the United Nations children's agency (UNICEF).

Early marriage deprives girls of an education, increases the likelihood of sexual violence and HIV, and puts them at risk of serious injury or death during childbirth, experts say.

"These (childbirth) complications are a leading cause of death among adolescents girls in countries like Nigeria ... this is unnecessary and unacceptable," said Mohamed Fall, UNICEF's representative in Nigeria.

Rates of child marriage vary widely across Nigeria, with figures as high as 76 percent in the northwest, and as low as 10 percent in the southeast, said campaign group Girls not Brides.

Women's rights group Donor Direct Action said the campaign to end child marriage was another positive step after a law banning female genital mutilation (FGM) was passed last year.

The prevalence of child marriage in Nigeria has dropped by nine percent since 2003, according to data from UNICEF.

"However, its decline needs to be dramatically accelerated, particularly in the north of Nigeria," Anber Raz of Donor Direct Action told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by email from London.

"A lot of social and cultural change needs to happen, which may fall on the hands of local groups, who are under-resourced."

Nigerian organisation Women's Rights Advancement And Protection Alternative said the state also needed to address discrimination in access to education to prevent child marriage.

More than five million girls are out of school in Nigeria due to gender discrimination, said campaign group Girl Rising.

Business / OPEC Agrees To First Output Cut In 8 Years by AjayiWrites2: 9:36pm On Nov 30, 2016
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has agreed to the very first oil output cut in eight years.

The oil cartel, which is currently meeting in Vienna, Austria, has not officially confirmed the deal, but news agencies on ground, and delegates who are party to the deal, say an agreement is already in place.

According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia, the biggest OPEC producer, agreed to take a big hit, to accommodate Iraq’s reluctance, while Iran has agreed to a cut.

Bloomberg is also reporting that the cartel agreed to cut production by 1.2 million barrels per day, with hopes that oil will trade above $50 a barrel for the days ahead.

Speaking at the opening of the 171st ordinary meeting, Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, OPEC conference president, expressed optimism that the deal would become a reality, considering work done since the Algiers accord was consummated.

“As the history of OPEC has shown and as many of our predecessors will no doubt acknowledge, the road to success is not always easy to navigate,” Al-Sada said.

“However, as we have shown over the past few months, with hard work, drive and commitment from all of us, we can overcome challenges and obstacles through cooperation and compromise.

“I feel we have already taken great steps to shape a fair and common understanding among us all. And I have the sense that everyone here remains committed to ensuring we find the solutions needed to implement the ‘Algiers Accord’.

“We all have a common goal of developing a lasting solution that brings forward the rebalancing process, reduces the length of the downturn, lessens volatility and stabilizes the market.”

OPEC is expected to address a press conference by 4pm Nigerian time.

Politics / Buhari, Saraki Strike Deal Over $29.9b Loan Request by AjayiWrites2: 8:34pm On Nov 06, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki may have made up on the $29.9 billion loan approval which the executive is seeking from the Senate, The Nation learnt last night.

Buhari and Saraki are understood to have met three times on the issue in the last few days since the Senate turned down the request last week. Saraki has already admitted that the loan request may be re-presented by the executive. This, the Presidency may do later this week, sources said yesterday. But there is a caveat: the Senate may refer the request to its Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, headed by Mallam Shehu Sani.

The Senate hinged its rejection of the loan request last week to inadequate information by the Presidency. The loan is expected to be used for the provision of key infrastructure.

It was gathered that during the interactive sessions between Buhari and Saraki, the Senate President was able to clarify that the Red chamber was not out to sabotage the executive arm.

A top source privy to the meetings said: "Following consultations, the President and the Senate President have agreed that the request for the $29.9billion loan be presented again to the Senate.

“All things being equal, the fresh request might be forwarded to the Senate with all the details as demanded by the Senate.

“But the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, which is headed by Sen. Sani will still go through the request and vet the desirability or otherwise of the loan.

“The recommendations of the committee will determine the final decision of the Senate on the loan.”

Religion / T.B. Joshua Predicts Who Will Win US Presidential Election... See Details by AjayiWrites2: 7:42pm On Nov 06, 2016
Prophet T B Joshua has predicted who will win US Presidential election between Republican candidate, Donald Trump and Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton which will hold on Tuesday November 8th 2016.

The man of God made the disclosure while speaking to a packed congregation at The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) on Sunday 6th November 2016, a service broadcast live to millions more on the popular Christian channel Emmanuel TV. Joshua said he saw the outcome in a ‘vision’ 10 days ago.

“Ten days ago, I saw the new President of America with a narrow win,” the cleric, who is renowned for his controversial prophetic abilities, began. According to what he saw, the female candidate would win the Presidential election.

He however said the new President would be visited with many challenges including attempts to possibly pass a "vote of no confidence” amidst difficulties in the passing of bills.

“The boat of the new President will be rocked,” he said

“In order not to keep you in suspense, what I frankly saw is a woman,” he stated, in a message subsequently posted to his official Facebook page followed by over 2.5 million people.

Joshua, however, lauded Clinton’s outspoken opponent Donald Trump. “I want to salute the opposition – a very strong man and courageous. He is my friend because he is very, very courageous. Challenges don’t mean anything to him. The more they abuse him, the more he comes out to talk and smile.”

With several predictions circulating online which forecast a positive outcome for Trump, Joshua clarified that such visions may have been seen at an earlier date. “The men of God that said opposite – maybe they saw it 15 days ago,” he explained.

Joshua went further to reveal that two states would be instrumental in Clinton’s impending victory at the polls.

“Challenges determine where you are spiritually,” he told the faithful earlier in a sermon. “How you react under pressure is how the real you reacts.”

This is not the first time the man of God is making such predictions. He is known to have correctly predicted the death of iconic pop legend Michael Jackson, ISIS-inspired terror incidents in Paris and the mysterious disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370.

Politics / Abu Ali Actually Died in the Hands of Boko Haram... Fresh Details Emerge by AjayiWrites2: 7:31pm On Nov 06, 2016
Had fate chosen a separate sequence of events, Muhammad Abu Ali, the lieutenant-colonel killed by Boko Haram on Friday, would still be alive.

Abu, commanding officer of the 272 Task Force Tank Battalion, died at about 10.00pm on Friday when suspected insurgents attacked the 119 Battalion Nigerian army location at Mallam Fatori, northern Borno state. But a senior army official who spoke on Sunday said Ali was close to leaving Mallam Fatori ahead of an army raid on Sambisa Forest.

The officer, who asked not to be named, also confirmed that Ali was not in his tank — his most prized weapon — when the attack happened.

“He was outside the tank; he was outside with his radio system. And because it was dark, nobody could exactly see the enemies who shot him,” he said.

“The firing came from behind. When these people [Boko Haram] came, he went towards that direction to see what was happening. He was not in the tank.”

He also spoke about how the soldiers who were killed with Abu may have survived if they had the most basic tool for smothering night attacks.

“You know, night attacks are always difficult,” he said.

“If you’re going for night attacks, you need your night sight — your night vision goggle — so that you can identify your targets clearly. You know what it means to fight in the dark? Confusion. You don’t know who is who.

“But I tell you what, there are only two night vision goggles to an entire battalion. In some cases, you will even find a battalion that has no single night vision goggle.”

A battalion normally comprises 700 soldiers, but the army typically deploys under-strength battalions against Boko Haram, some containing 300 to 400 soldiers.

“Ali went to Mallam Fatori, and the while thing was successful, it was after the operation that this Boko Haram attack was launched,” the official continued.

“The army was preparing for an attack in Sambisa, so Ali was to withdraw from Mallam Fatori ahead of the Sambisa operation. He was preparing to come back when this thing happened.

“There was serious preparation, which means it would happen soon. He had already received orders to withdraw from Mallam Fatori and come for onward movement to Sambisa. It also means that if Boko Haram had delayed that attack by a few days, Ali might have left Mallam Fatori alive.”

Politics / Pres. Buhari's Speech At The NIPSS Parley by AjayiWrites2: 3:15pm On Nov 03, 2016
One year ago, during the Presidential Parley with the Participants of the Senior Executive Course 37 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, I saddled the Management of the National Institute with the responsibility of looking at Strengthening Institutional Mechanisms for Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Development in the 2016 Course. I am glad that the Participants of the Senior Course 38 took up the challenge and today presented the Report of the Study.

I have carefully noted the report, most especially its findings and policy recommendations. I recall with pleasure that when I was giving this task, six months after this administration came into office, the selection of the theme was not only apt but also timely.

Today, poverty reduction and inclusive development have become pillars of this administration and very close to my heart.

I am very pleased that the Participants, through the able leadership of the National Institute of Management and the faculty members, have taken the task seriously, as is evident in the report presented. I congratulate you for painstakingly committing your time and energy to produce such a valuable policy-oriented report that will guide this administration.

I have looked forward to receiving this report because it touches on one of the fundamental problems confronting our nation. The Report comes at a time when our economy is experiencing a downturn and all efforts are being made by this administration to get our country moving again.

In the last one and half years of this administration, the economy has experienced some tough times, particularly with the decline in oil revenues, which has some harsh impacts on Nigerians at the grassroots. It is also important to note that the economic recession is not the making of this administration, but rather a consequence of bad management of the economy in the past couple of decades. Nor is recession limited to Nigeria – there are far, far worse cases than Nigeria.

Whatever the scale of the problem the important thing is how one tackles it. Accordingly, this administration is committed to finding lasting solutions to our economic structural imbalance. Let us have faith in our great nation that we will come out of this recession vibrant and strong. I am glad that the report presented today has given us reason to keep faith in our ability to overcome our challenges.

There is no doubt that poverty for decades has been a major challenge to us as a nation despite the country’s enormous wealth. Several policies and programmes that have been implemented over the years, as rightly observed by the Report, have not broken the cycle of poverty in Nigeria. From the findings of the research by the Participants, it is evident that strengthening our institutions is key to reducing poverty and engendering inclusive development.

It is impossible for this administration to ignore the poor who made great sacrifice to bring us to government. Ours more than any other government in the history of Nigeria is a people’s government. We therefore must and we will keep faith with the people.

It is in this light that I wish to declare the commitment of this administration to the Sustainable Development Goals, most especially to ending extreme poverty in Nigeria. It is not going to be easy, but we are committed to dealing with the challenges in a decisive manner. Fortunately, the Report of the Participants has prescribed some concrete measures on how to reduce poverty in the country.

Once again, I want to sincerely commend the efforts of the National Institute for keeping faith and moving us towards a better society. The Institute, even with the limited resources, was able to come up with such a policy-oriented research findings. I want to assure you that the Federal Executive Council will carefully study this Report and implement all the practical recommendations.

On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, let me congratulate you on your patriotic efforts.

Thank you and God bless our country.

Crime / Court Jails Man 195 Years For Stealing N21million by AjayiWrites2: 2:35pm On Nov 03, 2016
Kano State High Court presided by Honourable Justice Dije Abdu Aboki has convicted and sentenced one Aliyu Suleiman to 195 years imprisonment.

The convict was arraigned by the EFCC on the September 30, 2014, for allegedly stealing over N21, 000,000 (Twenty one Million Naira only) from Albasu Microfinance Bank. Upon his arraignment, the convict pleaded not guilty to all the count charge brought against him by the EFCC. In her judgment on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, Justice Aboki sentenced the convict to serve two years on each of count one to forty four and fine of N300, 000 on each. Where the convict defaults the fine, he is to serve additional six months imprisonment on each count.

From count 45 to 74, the convict was sentenced to fine of N500, 000 or twelve months imprisonment on each count while on count 75 to 105, he is to pay fine of N200, 000 or twelve months imprisonment on each count with the exception of count 97 which appeared to be duplication.

The sentences were to run concurrently. The convict was also ordered to restitute the sum of N14, 815,000 (Fourteen Million, Eight Hundred and Fifteen Thousand Naira Only) to the Albasu Community or spend five more years in prison.

The convict was a former staff of Oceanic Bank who was engaged and entrusted by the Albasu Community to take charge of their Microfinance Bank. While in charge, the convict violated that trust and siphoned over N21, 000,000 (Twenty Million Naira) by forging signatures of the other signatories to the funds.

Politics / Recession: How We Got Into Trouble - Pres. Buhari by AjayiWrites2: 4:53pm On Sep 23, 2016
They converged from different parts of the United States of America, top rate professionals all, Nigerians whom Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora Matters and International Relations, described as "15 of the best people God ever created."

The professionals were in New York to meet with the Nigerian President. Top flight aeronautics engineers, physicians, I.T experts, a Judge, a top policewoman, entrepreneurs, an Import Specialist at Customs and Border Protection, professors, two straight A students, and many others.

The parley provided President Buhari opportunity to bring them up to speed on how and why Nigeria got into trouble, with an assurance that with all hands on deck, including the best brains in the Diaspora, the country would bounce back in the shortest possible time.

"I am very pleased with this meeting," President Buhari stated. "Wherever you go in the world, you find highly competent and outstanding Nigerians. They not only make great impact on their host countries and communities, their financial remittances back home also help our economy, particularly at a time like this, when things are down.

"We got into trouble as a country, because we did not save for the rainy day. For example, between 1999 and 2015, when we produced an average of 2.1 million barrels of oil per day, and oil prices stood at an average of $100 per barrel, we did not save, neither did we develop infrastructure. Suddenly, when we came in 2015, oil prices fell to about 30 dollars per barrel.

“I asked; where are the savings? There were none. Where are the railways? The roads? Power? None. I further asked; what did we do with billions of dollars that we made over the years? They said we bought food. Food with billions of dollars? I did not believe, and still do not believe.

“In most parts of Nigeria, we eat what we grow. People in the South eat tubers, those in the North eat grains, which they plant, and those constitute over 60 per cent of what we eat. So, where did the billions of dollars go? We did a lot of damage to ourselves by not developing infrastructure when we had the money.

"Talking of our military, they earned respect serving in places like Burma, Zaire, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra-Leone, and then, suddenly, that same military could no longer secure 14 out of 774 local governments in the country. Insurgents had seized them, calling them some sort of caliphate, and planting their flags there; till we came, and scattered them.

"We raised the morale of our military, changed the leadership, re-equipped and retrained them; USA, Britain, and some other countries helped us, and today, the pride of our military is restored.

"Boko Haram ran riot, killing innocent people in churches, mosques, markets, schools, motor parks, and so on. And they would then shout Allahu Akbar. But if they truly knew Allah, they would not do such evil. Neither Islam, nor any other religion I know of, advocates hurting the innocent. But they shed innocent blood, killed people in their thousands. Now, we have dealt with that insurgency, and subverted their recruitment base.

"Those who stole Nigeria dry are not happy. They recruited the militants against us in the Niger Delta, and began to sabotage oil infrastructure. We lose millions of barrels per day, at a time when every dollar we can earn, counts. It is a disgrace that a minimum of 27 states, out of 36 that we have in Nigeria, can't pay salaries.

"But I prayed so hard for God to make me President. I ran in 2003, 2007, 2011, and in 2015, He did. And see what I met on ground. But I can't complain, since I prayed for the job. In the military, I rose from 2nd Lieutenant to Major-General. I was military governor in 1975 over a state that is now six states. I was head of state, got detained for three years, and headed the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), which had N53 billion of that time in Nigerian banks.

“God has been very good to me, so I can't complain. If I feel hurt by anybody, I ask God to help me forgive. He has done so much for me.

"After 16 years of a different party in government, no party will come and have things easy. It's human. We need quality hands to run Nigeria, and we will utilize them. I will like to welcome you home when it's time. But I'll like you to be ready."

All the Nigerian professionals pledged to contribute their quota towards re-launching their fatherland to a new dawn.
