It is usually believed that you are fertile for roughly 7-8 days in your cycle period. If your menstrual cycle is a regular one, then it is very easy to calculate. Now I am not talking about regular as in it comes every 5th of every month but that the number of days between the first day of a month's menses and the first day of the next month's menses is constant.
Usually a lot of people have a 28 days cycle (21-35 days is normal).
So here is how we calculate it. If you have a 28 days regular cycle, the 14th day is the day of ovulation. i.e the 14th day taking the first day of your menses as 1st. Now 4days before that (from 10th of ur cycle) till 3 days after that (17th day) you are fertile.
So use that to calculate yours please.
Note If your cycle is not 28 days, there would be a little adjustment to the calculations.
Now the day of ovulation is fairly constant at 14 days before the next menses. So it means that if your cycle is 30 days, the day of ovulation would be day 16 i.e 14 days before next menses. So 4 days before ovulation and 3 days after ovulation is your fertile period.

I am not saying that Amoxicillin cannot be used to treat Typhoid at all, what I am saying is that considering the prevailing circumstances Ciprofloxacin is a better idea in Nigeria now. Years before now, the commonest drug used in treating typhoid in Nigeria was even Chloramphenicol and not Amoxiciilin. and then there is now a lot of amoxycillin resitance even geniune amoxycillin.I am not questioning your mother's choice at all. She is far more experienced than I am.

Antibiotic resistance is one thing, Counterfeit drugs is another thing.
May God help us in Nigeria.

I am not a politician and would never be one. I am not campaigning for him but he seems to have a good chance and I think Nigeria might do well under him.
My parents do not even support IBB. My admiration is personal.
Sometimes too, the devil you have recognised is a better friend than the angel you have not tested. (He could be a worse devil when tested).

Pls PID is very dangerous. It should be treated right and promptly. It causes infertility as you have noted. It also increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy and is a risk factor for development Cervical Cancer. ( I can explian why if there are questions on this).

Go to the hospital. Do some tests like High Vaginal Swab and Endo cervical swab MCS, so that the causative organism can be identifed and the antibiotics it is sensitive can be tested.

If you want to treat emperically thena Broad spectrum like doxycycline or thereabout is not bad.

You're problem is either HIV or not taking your drugs as at when you should. There's a reason why you have a strict drug regimen, when you take drugs and skip a few, not all the parasites die, those that survive develop immunity to other doses taken hapharzadly. The reason you have a regimen is to maintain a particular level of the drug in your system for a particular period sufficient to clear virtually all the parasites.

Go buy amoxicillin and finish the pack, 4 tablets a day!!! Note, after about 2 days, you will feel perfectly fine but MAKE SURE you complete the dosage. If you miss some doses you have to buy a new pack and start over again!

If symtoms persist, then HIV test is your best bet!

As much as I agree with you on some points davidylan, there are a lot of misconceptions in your post. It is true that when you skip drugs and do not take complete dosage, you are giving room for the parasites to develop resistance to the medication. And that is why in  Nigeria, we have a lot drug resistance here. That is apart from the Natural evolution of these parasites that make them develop resistance naturally over time as a means of survival.

Now going to buy amoxicillin is a bad idea. Amoxicillin and Ampicillin are of the most abused antibiotics in Nigeria. The resistance rate against these antibiotics is  now so high. I do not have hsopital based figures though. Even if you go to some markets in Naija, you see hawkers, peddling antibiotics around as 'Ka pe". Its usually amoxicillin or ampicillin, hence the resistance in Nigeria is high.

Also naturally, Amoxycillin is not the best antibiotics to use to treat Salmonella Typhi the causative agent of Typhoid fever. Ciprofloxacin is better idea and that is what is usually used in Nigerian hospitals.

Lets know what his symptoms first, he might not have Typhoid.

You see the problem in Nigeria is that the diagnosis of typhoid in private facilities is ususally hinged on Widal's test where they test for the antibody titre against Salmonella spp.

Now widal's test is very insensitive and a single result can not diagnosis Typhoid. Why you may ask? Well it is because almost all of us have been exposed one time or the other in our life to Salmonella, so we have already developed antibodies naturally against the bacteria. Hence a lot of us would have positie Widal's though we do not have gtyphoid. When it becomes significant is when you do 2 or 3 tests and the  antibody titre is on the increase then the diagnosis of typhoid can be tied toghetr with the clinical assessment.

So most of the time, typhoid is made clinically.

Now does this guy have typhoid or not? We don''t know. I say may be not. But what are his symptoms first.

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria and it causes a lot things. It is not a sexually transmitted disease.
Things that are caused by Staph Aureaus include: Boils, Pneumonia, Skin Infections, Urinary Tract Infection, Osteomyelitis etc.

Staph is sensitive to some antibiotics such as Augmentin, Eryhthromycin, etc.

Stop believing what yem Kem tells you and please Staph and HIV are not related like they put it.

Blood in the stool is a very non specific symptom. It could indictate a vey inocuuos thing like hemorrhoids or it could signify something as dangerous as Cancer of the rectum.
These things are difficult to differentiate except you are fully checked by a doctor ina hospital. I am one but I cannot make a diagnosis on the fly like that without seeing you or something.

Depression is not sadness. For you to say someone is depressed, he must fulfil the following criteria:

1. Low mood at most times of the the day.
2. Low energy
3 He/she has lost interest in  pleasurable actitivites that usually would stimulate him /her.

Once the three conditions are fulfilled, the guy is depressed.

It is commoner in women. Anybody can be depressed.

Now to classify as minor, major or other classes has other conditions but I have answered your question.

As a Medical Doctor I have had to take care of a lot of HIV positive patients. I am exposed each day of my life to the infection.
I remember some patients whose status I did not know and then I am treating and then I get a needle prick (A needle I used for the patient mistakenly pricks me) and then their HIV results comes out as negative.

What do you think goes on thru my mind everyday? There are a lot of people with this virus. Enough we dont know.
I have actually done the tests twice, both negative and my profession recommends a 6 monthly testing which I hope to do.
But I have actually sat down to consider what if I test positive? People nothing would happen -- life continues.
It is not a death sentence. I can assure you that a lot of non-HIV positive people would die b4 I die. Once I take my drugs regularly which is meant to be free from PEPFAR (a Bill and Melinda Gates foundation initiative in ass with APIN) or at a reduced cost from FG, I eat good food, I maintain a good state of the mind I would live longer than most of you. (Well actually the life expectancy in Nigeria is 43). I surely would live longer than you think.

Nothing about me would change, though I would be depressed for a few months but my people I would live a fulfilling life. Better than you think, How many peolpe are HIV negative and die in plane crashes, car accidents, armed robberies etc.

In Nigeria there are a lot of things that would kill you faster than HIV

What sort of injection are you taking? Who even told you you have typhoid? 80% of the typhoid diagnosis made by private labs in Nigeria is false and misdiagnosis.

What are your symptoms? Lets know. Though to be truthful, there are some people who are chronic gall bladder carriers of the bacteria that causes typhoid. though I do not think that in your case.

I do not agree with the person that says you might have HIV, though I am not saying you might not have but Lets get your symptoms straight and the we can know what you probably have or don't have.

All the replies on the pterygium are right so I do not need to redefine it. It is ususally a wedged shaped fibrovascular degenerative growth of the conjuctiva. The problem about it is that it stretches(grows and encroaches) over the cornea. Now the cornea is meant to be clear and colourless. so what a pterygium does is to cause some kind of problems with vision either reduced vision, distorted vision or the likes.

Risk factors for developing it are: Prolonged exposure to sun, Sand, particles. So it is commoner in outdoor workers, farmers, welders and the likes.

Because of the high recurrence after surgery it is recommended that combination therapy be used to treat it. That is surgery and radiotherapy or surgery and chemotherapy.

It is better you do surgery and then combine with something. it is a minor procedure I assure you. (though has its own complications). see your Opthalmolgist for more info.

Do something as soon as you can because it would continue to grow if you do not.

Now why would I vote for IBB at all? Its not that I do not despise him but these are facts that support his candidature:

1 He is experienced as per the Nigerian context. To rule Nigeria is not an easy job. Its not meant for the lily-hearted. Its not classroom exeprience you need. A professor would mess up badly. Its been proved that all statistics in Nigeria confound professionals. Our system of economy does not respect any known law of economics. Our situation is different.

2. He is respected within the military. There is little or no probabilty that he would be overthrown by a coup détat.

3. He seems to be a changed [erson and seems to now have the interest of the country at heart. He seems to want to want to come back to make amends.

4. He is blunt and not lily hearted. He would not be boxed into a corner by either other politicians or our corrupt National Assembly.

5. He seems intelligent. I can't explain it but he really seems intelligent. (Don't crucify me on this)

6. He probably would win no matter what I do in the first place, so what the heck

As I have maintained I am not voting but if I do, these points are good aren't they??

It is recommended that you should breastfeed exclusively for the first 4-6 months of life and thereafter add other things to the diet of the baby plus breastmilk.
It is usual to continue breastfeeding till 12-18months.
Now I understand that your work might be demanding but you should understand that Breastmilk is very stable. You can express the breastmilk before going to work in the morning.
All that is needed to be done is that they can put in the fridge and warm it once the baby wants it. Then you can also add other things to the diet. Care must be taken to ensure cleanliness at all times.
I even understand that some work places have creches and stuffs like that you can breastfeed your baby at breaktime if your work allows such but if not, just express and give instructions b4 leaving for work.
Nothing like breastmilk for a baby ma.
