Bantus were sold by slaves to arabs in Ethiopia aka Bilaal as far back as 7th century. Ethiopia was a powerful kingdom, it even gave refuge to the prophets companions. in the late 600's.

You only say present day SOMALIA, not Somalis. As shown in history bantus were the ones who were slaves in Somalia and Ethiopia. Why else did the arabs sell us their slaves? Aksum/Abyssinia finally fell in the 1500's when the Somalis over took them, before that they were the ones who controlled their own land and the land of the bantus they took over.

In the seventh century, there was no such thing as Somalis. As the entire region was controlled by Aksum/Abyssinia and Somalis were just like the rest of the Cushitic people who spoke a common language. It was after we became Muslims that a Somali identity was formed.
