Chokl8: it has already been established that that is an Afar song that was first put out by Abdallah Lee in 1996. (I learned this from a somali). i dont think there are any somali versions older than that. And its not about the beat, its the actual song.

Najma is an afar song.
Are u kidding, the entire song is in somali. and this is an old love song.

afar and somali are not the same language. This is a new one, saying the somalis who are 20 million copied from the 2 million afars who are scattered in 4 countries

so ur telling me this song is not in somali? kails u neeed to stay out of somali affairs forever

naagmaay is a somali word lmao. keep in mind many afar words are somali, they even were introduced to islam through the somalia

Chokl8: that is what i thought initially until i looked up other versions of the song.

^^ from the comments:

you guys are cousins and have the same culture. it is possible for ppl who are lesser in number to influence larger populations and vice versa. esp in such close proximity. somali ppl have also influenced the afars in many ways as well.

anyway sorry for derailing your thread.
its ok, i searched it, and somalis have been making this tune before afars. here is another famous love song with the same beat. plus somali is older than afar. many afar words are borrowed from us.

Chokl8: That song they are listening 2 sounds a lot like an afar song.

Its called "yinti".
http://youtu.be/sy8JhVtpOVE
thats because afar got their song from us. Afar live in somalia, djibouti, and ethiopia near the ogaden. So afar always live near somalis. Much of their cultural is taken from us or copied or shared. Cause afar themselves have different culture where they live. like in djioubti and in ethiopia is different.

how can 2 million afars scattered in 4 countries be copied by the 20 million somalis who have 2 countries of their own?

Gbawes: Were these the ones that whooped your a.s.s., because most Ethiopians hate Somalis with passion.
Ogaden region is Somali, Its actually Somalis who whooped ethiopians butttt, thats why half of Ethiopia is Muslim, and half the land is inhabited by Somalis.

In the 1500's Somalis took over most of ethiopia and destroyed everything and burned it to the ground. That war was the first time anyone in Africa used cannons. The Somalis were fighting the Ethiopians and their Portugese Allies who they called for.

But Somalis used the help of the Arabs and the Ottoman Empire (turks) and destroyed Ethiopia.

adaobi123: The whole quran ?!? shocked shocked
i assume cause she doesn't look like she could have beaten the other girls based on beauty. I have several members in my family who know the whole quran, because they spent years on it, i only know a few chapters.

Fulaman198: So wait, I thought Somali was the national language, aren't you upset that you are not speaking your own language as your national language?
Somali is the national language. Arabic is second language used mostly in business as we trade with many countries in the middle east and we are part of the arab league.
Fashion › Re: Miss Universe 2013 Contestants From Africa! by Ajuran: 10:37pm On Nov 01, 2013
Fulaman198: What is Arab culture to you? You better not say Islam
Speaking Arabic as the national language, having a country that has the same culture and is historically tied to other arab countries in the middle east.

Fulaman198: It's more like Nigerian women don't need them. Nigerian women are amongst the most beautiful in the world (not to be biased). The only issue I have with Nigerian women is how they love money and a man based on his profession too much (instead of a mans heart). There are several Nigerian women with naturally long hair.
Several lol. I won't push you any harder. This issue is taking too long to unWEAVE. no pun intended. grin

Fulaman198: LOL time out Ajuran bro, your feelings are getting a bit too hurt here. It's not my intention to make anyone feel sad. Sorry man
you should read my posts instead of calling me an arabwannabee. That is offensive. Because number one being arab is not based on looks but on culture and speaking arabic. And Somalia has both those. despite that we don't call ourselves arab. We are Somali, and am proud of that.
Fashion › Re: Miss Universe 2013 Contestants From Africa! by Ajuran: 10:31pm On Nov 01, 2013
Somali notions of beauty have never changed for hundreds of years. Look at this Somali woman from 1800's. Looks better than all the fake haired women running around today.

Fulaman198: Dang man, don't take it like that. I love all African people who love themselves
you just called me a arabwanabee, even though i posted pictures of the winner of Miss Africa who is Somali.

You have issues, deep issues and you have exposed yourself on how you feel about my people.

Somalia participates in Miss Arab cause its part of the Arab league, it also does miss Africa. only because you don't have to wear bikini for these

contests.

adaobi123: Why don't somalis compete for miss world/universe ? Religious beliefs ?
I believe So. Miss universe you have to wear a bikini, but miss africa and miss arab world competition you don't have wear a bikini.

You know there are a lot of Somali Models

Fulaman198: Must make you happy that she is competing in the Arab world and not Africa right? Mr. I wannabearab
the first picture is the winner of Miss Africa: she is somali. and reaping Somalia.

I was just showing pageants Miss Somalia takes part in. Cause she said we never won miss Universe, its cause we don't take part in it.

Thanks for jumping to a conclusion, this tells me how you really feel about somalis.

Miss Somalia taking part in Miss Arab world

safarigirl: lol, na lack of comprehension dey worry you? The question is pretty straightforward. HAS A SOMALI/EAST AFRICAN EVER WON MISS WORLD/UNIVERSE? What the phuck is Miss Arab world? I thought y'all abhor pageants, and when did Africa or Arabia become a synonym for World or Universe?
somalia never took part in miss world or universe.

But we take part in Miss Arabia (somalia is a member of the arab league)

picture is the winner of Miss Africa, she is Somali.

Culture › Re: The Fulani by Ajuran: 10:21pm On Nov 01, 2013
Fulaman198: You are mistaken, a lot of Nigerian women do not even know what a weave is unless if they live in a big city. Most Nigerian women have not been exposed to this western thing. In Nigeria, women care more about their curves than their hair (which I deem fine, as long as their hair gets down to their shoulders who cares)?

I naturally have long hair, but you know what, I don't wear long hair because it hinders my chances at a job. Also, a few women have convinced me that it is does not look too masculine (unless if I wear dreadlocks which will never happen).
So in other words, nigerians who don't live in big cities don't wear weaves. But the minute they get money and move to a big city they adopt the western notion of beauty that means having soft hair is beautiful.

thanks for the clarification.

I didn't bring this topic up, i only replied just like you did.

Fulaman198: Personally, I have never seen a Nigerian say those attributes are better. Make sure you are actually talking to a Nigerian next time....There are plenty of other African nationalities on Nairaland.
well if soft hair is not seen as better than nappy hair: why do so many women wear weaves that are soft and spend thousands of dollars on them?

how many arabs, whites, indians do you see putting nappy fake hair on their head?
