Politics › Re: Igbo Leaders Urge For Unity At Ojukwu's Birthday Bash by ak47mann(m): 3:31am On Nov 07, 2011 |
unclenath: I am just wondering why "bow" just turned out to be a word to generate so much attention and anger like its being expressed by the likes of Eke ile (hope this is correct spelling) when bowing down even postrating on the floor has been a common expression of some of the tribes in Nigeria as a sign of respect . Is the issue the "bow", the "Igbo", the "Governor" or the combination of all these words? Is respect no longer what each person owes another regardless of differences in tribe, colour, religion, status, and so on? If bow which means respect as expressed in Governor Okorocha's speech is the problem, then it points to that same fact that one of the problems we face in this country is "differences disrespect' .
I strongly believe that 'bow' became an offence not because it is bad in its usage in that statement but because of who used it. Obviously if your (each person discussing this topic) governor had made the same statement, you probably wouldn't consider that 'bow' to mean an "error" .
Now this is the mindset we all have to flush out of this country to move forward - not basing out judgement of issues on differences; be it tribe, religion, class and what have you.
We have lived like this for over five decades with nothing to show for it yet when this kind of issue comes up we quickly take sides based on our groups.
I do not think its right for someone to come to a public place like this to call another tribe losers . What did you win if I may ask ?
Let's assume you are the 'winner' as you want us to believe, for all these decades you happen to be the 'winner', how is Nigeria? What really can we boast of in this country as a result of your being a 'winner'- bad roads, no electricity, bribery and corruption, non-payment of workers' salaries, strikes and protest, no fuel-kerosene-diesel in the same rich oil producing country, terrorism and militancy, visionless-greedy-selfish government regimes, abundance of illiteracy and poverty, the list is countless ?
Yet in the looser'ship' position of your losers, they have built and developed cities like your state capitals. In their disunity they have driven poverty to a large extent far away from their homes. They made great things out of nothing .
Imagine if they decide to come together, if you are an honest person, then you can agree with me that Governor Okorocha's speech was not out of place.
The problem is not whether what he said is right or wrong rather your interpretation of what he said which depends on the level of your sentiment. Whichever way you see it, however way you interpret it, the truth remains that if those Igbos come together you will bow(respect) for what they can do!
Let us accept our differences and acknowledge our individual strengths . Our unity is in our differences. Our strength is in our diversity and not in our tribes. Variety they say is the spice of life. Arise, oh compatriots and make this nation a better place for us all! tell them |

FOR choosing to pay N20,000 minimum wage to civil servants, Imo indigenes have commended the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and urged civil servants in the state to put in their best and take the state to the next level. The national minimum wage is N18,000. Speaking on the umbrella of Imo Indigenes Club, they also hailed the setting aside of N400 million loan for farmers to boost agricultural production. Leaders of the club – Mr. Vitalis Ejimofor (chairman), Engr Abuchi Iwuji (secretary) and Paul Musa Igwebe, urged the governor to embark on more populist projects that would bring development to Imo. Said the club, which recently appointed Amb. Damian Obianigwe (group chairman, Fano Shipping Agencies Ltd) as its patron: “We salute Okorocha fot taking steps to make workers happy in Imo State. We encourage workers to put in their best and urge Imo lawmakers to co-operate with the governor.” VANGUARD NEWSPAPER |

NRI PRIEST: Even the Igbo spoken in the ONITSHA,ANAMBRA axis is IDEMMILI IGBO tongue. . .ONITSHA PEOPLE need to stop feeling ashamed of who they are and embrace their lineage. . .its funny when somebody who has taken the OZO title, ODU title,AGBALANZE title and still says they are from BENIN!!! Its so sad and shameful !!!!! I wish they never spoke Igbo like the Igala people of northern Anambra, never have the rich and glamorous OZO title, never had the OTU ODU female chieftaincy tittle, never had the AGBALANZE OZO wealthy title, never had the NDI ICHIES. . . I regret that the ingrates borrowed our IDEMMILI traditions and still deny being IGbos. . .!! indeed, the thing is that when you look at history of onitsha, starting from when white men came to settle in onitsha in 1850s during the royal trading port, those days really onicha was occupied by different igbo clans from different towns, some migrated from ogbunike, ichida, ogidi, ojoto, umunze, asaba, obosi,NRI, igbos migrated to onitsha land for "Economic" reasons it applied through out societies. |
