IslamRe: Nairalanders Iftaar - Season 7 by Ak4ril(m): 12:01pm On Aug 12, 2010
Jarus:
Or should we merge those of Lagos and have just one at a venue in Ikeja, since we have more people suggesting mainland and also since we had last year's in VI?
But the challenge here is it has to be a Saturday because those of us that work on the Island may not be able to close from work on a Friday and still make it to Ikeja before Iftar time.

LAGOS DATE: FRIDAY, AUGUST 20 OR SATURDAY AUGUST 21. (Quote)

This is perfect, may Allah bless you abundantly, Saturday is good & the venue is okay. Sign me in, I'll be there Insha Allah.

(Quote 4rm Jarus) We were 10 last year, I expect 15-25 this year.
If the eatery has upstairs, then that's very good. Last year venue was also a storey building and less distraction upstairs compared to open ground floor.

I will advise you have more expectation, because it's like there is more awareness this year than last year, coupled with the fact that the iftaar will be taking place on the mainland & on a weekend. I'll suggest expect 40-50.

I don't really support the act anyway. Every evil has an appropriate punishment but who will give the punishment. Those with soiled hands and garments ? You can only punish disobedience when your own obedience is complete. If they are killed, is that the best solution ? A lasting solution is what our leaders should consider and this is nothing but a change of hearts. Our leaders may think they are adequately shielded but this may just be a time bomb. How many of their family members will they carry abroad ?
isimili:
I am against capital punishment because two wrongs cant make a right. We cannot deal with crime without dealing with the root cause first. If i should be compelled to agree with capital punishment i will go for our politicans and police first in order to justify killing any kidnapper.

what many of us fail to understand is that the flaunting of ill gotten wealth by our politicians and the state of disengagement between people and the state is so poor that some people are living deads and do not know the difference betwen life and death. This means that many people are very suicidal because of frustration and would rather kidnap, maim or kill for any reason in order to be released from their living hell. Therefore being killed makes no sense to them as they have no value for life in a country so sick as Nigeria. I think that the bloody minded idiotic politicians should stop blaming anyone but themselves and change their ways. My only anger with kidnappers is that they target the wrong people. many of us are as poor as them and should not live in fear of them. They should target the politicians and their families and leave poor struggling people alone. I have no sympathy for criminals dressed like politicians and government of the people that means well for our country. In fact someone should round them up and empty the tipper into the ocean or panti and throw away the keys so that we may start all over again. I just hate the fools who are more owambe than leaders. Did anyone see them in asoebi in uyo like elementary kids in uniform and some of them sleeping on duty? fools and idiots. they should all go and hide.
I support you.

Oba said some of them, especially himself, had almost given up hope. “We were afraid that our abductors may decide to end our lives. Let us fight for our nation and ourselves and do things that will promote the welfare of the Nigerian Police. The kidnappers boasted they have superior weapons and that the police would not be able to stand them,” he said.
sad shocked huh
We have so many things to do in this country, I'm short of words.

@ poster

This situation you found yourself was caused by you and you alone, With the discription of this guy you gave to us, he was all through totally in love with you but you never had a heart for him.For crying out loud, Why would most ladies always take for granted those that sincerely care for them and love them whole heartedly while they give their all to those guys who care less about them?.
I m very sorry to say, this kind of guy deserves someone more appreciative than you.
The isssue of continuing to date him is a NO NO because you are only seperated from your husband and not divorced, the consequences of having an extra marital affair might be grave. It might just be too late to start having any feelings for this guy.
GBAM! you spoke my mind.

@ poster, 4get about that other guy, its too late, you've lost your chance then. Just find a way of rebuilding your marriage & focus on it big time, you got nothing more.

@ Big B1 and kennyblues, if you're not him, how much were you given that has made you to forget your future & that of your coming generations. This evil genius has nothing good to offer Nigerians, he wants to come and replenish his fat pocket that is getting dry & deal with those that are against him. He has absolutely nothing positive to offer the Nigerian citizens.

@ Big B1 and kennyblues, better wake up from your slumber.

Should a leader who claimed he built a toilet for N10m be killed?
Should he be killed? well, what I know is that, if he shouldn't be killed, it will be a foul to kill those hungry kidnappers.

Or who's crime is more between them ?
EducationRe: Jamb: No Space For 340,000 Successful Utme Candidates by Ak4ril(m): 12:51pm On Jul 14, 2010
Austin G:
About 340,000 out of the 867, 000 candidates who met the 180 cut-off point in the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will not be admitted into any of the nation’s tertiary institutions this year, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation has said.

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, told journalists on Tuesday in Kaduna, Kaduna State, that the nations’ tertiary institutions could not absorb all the candidates because of “limited spaces.”

The JAMB Registrar told journalists during the technical committee meeting on admission to degree-awarding institutions that except access to tertiary institutions was increased, “we will continue to have a lot of people waiting endlessly for admission.”

Ojerinde said, “With this 180 cut-off point, we have about 867,000 candidates who made 180 and above, and yet the available space is just about 527,000.

“So, the remaining 340,000 candidates will have no place to go. That is the point, except access to tertiary institutions is increased; we will continue to have lots of people waiting endlessly for admission.

“But I am not saying that it is to be for everybody because the space available is still not sufficient.”

“Admission is not automatic because the space is not sufficient. You have to try again next time if you don’t get admitted this year. It is the survival of the fittest.”

Where are we heading to in this country, absolutely everything is failing. Now, students who want to go to school can't even go because of some stupid excuses.

Nigeria is already a failed state.

By that i presume its what other posters have been deemed the politicians. So if it takes 50yrs to breed a new generation of politicians, Nigerians should live in fear that long?
I wonder. Actually, I'm in a dilemma, on one side, I support that these kidnappers be killed. But, on the other side, I see it as heating their small face with the big hand of the law. Don't get me wrong, these guys didn't just wake up one day and decided that they want to start kidnapping, it is as a result of frustration which the rogues in government has caused them. come to think of it, where did they get their arms & ammunitions? the useless people in power gave them to campaign cause riot when they wanted to get the power.

Now, they've used them to get the power they wanted and abandoned them, they in turn found a way of utilising the ammunition in their hands.(kidnapping or stealing)

My point is if we're not ready to punish those that primarily caused this problem, why attack the less privileged that were used?
PoliticsRe: Should Kidnappers Be Killed by Ak4ril(op): 12:19pm On Jul 13, 2010
but come to think of it, don't you think if nothing is done about this, it may turn into a big problem. who knows, it might spread to Lagos & other cities, kidnapping innocent people.
PoliticsRe: Should Kidnappers Be Killed by Ak4ril(op): 12:16pm On Jul 13, 2010
Why? although, I think they shouldn't be killed, because, the thieves in power that are stealing our money and disgracing Nigeria as a whole are not sentenced to death

Regarding the incessant attacks by kidnappers in the East and South-South, do you support "DEATH" as a penalty for any kidnapper that is caught.

papa190:
I hear a lot of pple focusing more on money b4 love.I know money is equally important but I think it is important to marry for love . because a marriage built on love is more likely to stand stronger .
I hear folks focus on outward beauty but I believe inward /outward are equally important.but I believe inward beauty is the most important. I believe inward beauty should be priority coz I believe it is more likely to stand the test of time. can you share with us your opinions on this subject.

Above all, a person that is genuinely bornagain is most important to me
well, regarding the money or love issue, sure love is more important, but that thing called poverty is very wicked, it can destroy anything - even love - but love is more important.

Its a good one for him. I dont see AC winning the Presidential seat yet!
thanx, as far as I'm concerned, Jonathan (PDP) will give it all it takes to win this 2011 election, even if it means rigging it.

I  am  of  the  opinion  that  Ribadu  should  woo  PDP  for  a  V.P  post,  continue  &  act  loyal  with  Jonathan  till  he's  true  with  his  tenure.  Then,  it  will  be  easy  to  bid  for  Presidential  ticket  under  the  umbrella  of  PDP;  he  wins  the  election  as  (PDP wins) usual.

HAVING BECOME THE PRESIDENT, HE DECAMPS TO A MORE REASONABLE PARTY WITH HIS GROUP HE HAS BEING BUILDING IN GOVT. FOR YEARS. - AND THAT IS THE END OF PDP.
