While I do not support irate behaviours I can at least half understand why some Nigerians may have a special hatred for citizens of some countries . If you have ever been singled out for "special treatment " at airports abroad just because of your Nigerian passport I think that it will not be too difficult to develop hatred very easily . I have heard terrible stories from several people including religious ministers and I have personally sworn that if it ever happens to me it will be last time I will venture out of Naija

Students are different from immigrants.
With the new rules coming to force soon , going as a student might be a lot more difficult as you may need to have not less than 9000 pounds declared for your living expenses before being permitted in.
Also HSMP I think is being replaced by Tier 1 which requires that you not only have a substantial amount as living expenses when coming in , but also proof that you have a good job from where you are coming by showing that you constantly have a minimum monthly balance of I think not less than 3000 pounds in your account over a period of time before applying .
In both cases they are demanding substantial inflow of foreign exchange from both students and immigrant workers. No free lunch again
Hardly worth it is my honest opinion.

I went away from Nairaland for along while after I and a friend emonkey were attacked by mad dogs simply because we felt different to statements such as "most Nigerians are fraudsters" . Suffice to say that the main proponent of that idea on this forum (a US based security guard) fell silent to the question about how many members of his own family are among the "most" Nigerians who are fraudsters.

I have since accepted that it takes all sorts to make up Nairaland - the good, the mad and the hungry (and angry) . Let people rant , if it is the way that they can keep from going stark raving mad. I have several times observed as well that once you are seen not to be insulting Obasanjo , either on Nairaland and elsewhere and not calling for his public execution by hanging and firing squad, then you are anti-progress. . And nothing is being done anymore other than Obasanjo-bashing . Even the man who catches malaria blames it on Obasanjo , and also the one who goes to a prostitute and catches a disease. Na Obasanjo cause am.
May be it would have been a good thing if an industry is officially built around all this and Fashola permits street traders to sell "Kill Obasanjo" face caps, T-shirts , flags , keyholders and other stuff on Lagos roads.
Of course we may wish that other people are as sensible as the rest of us when making allegations in public , but remember no two heads are alike - there are good ones, there are bad ones (ori buruku), there are empty ones , some are full of stone and lead ( ori dota) and a lot are just full of sawdust and garbage.
