FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON: FROM A MONUMENT INTO A NEW HAVEN

Governor Udom Emmanuel’s deliberate efforts at registering the State on the global business map has been further heightened with the recent commencement of commercial activities at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene.

When Mr Emmanuel took over as Governor in May 2015, the hotel which was commissioned by his predecessor three days before he handover the baton, was at sixty eight percent completion, as rated by international hotel evaluation standards and several people would have thought that the new administration would pay deaf attention to its completion.

What was on ground was a giant building without the basic requirements for a standard hotel of international repute. Thus the potential investors, then Sheraton group, turned down all overtures by the State Government to takeover and commence business there. The group insisted that a building is not a hotel, and gave a long list of their prerequisites to be installed before they could even discussed deal.

On the heels of their contractual agreement with the State government in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Governor Udom Emmanuel ensured that all their requirements were provided, meeting all their specifications, and at a stretch approved and released all funds requested for that purpose.

This was deployed to drawing dedicated power lines to the hotel, transformers, installation of automatic voltage regulator, installation of specified equipment for the swimming pool, fixing of the conference and meeting rooms, installation of anti-bomb safety units around the hotel and several other requirements. Thanks

The effort also made it possible for the relevant areas in the hotel to be fenced as well as installation of standard security modalities at the gate. From that effort has emerged a world class magnificent eleven-floor hotel with one hundred and forty six modern guestrooms.

The hotel is a foresighted investment for the State due to its strategic location at Ikot Ekpene. Its location places it at an advantage for patronage as its proximity to neighbouring Abia and Cross River States. Ikot Ekpene itself is in close proximity with the Federal Polytechnic in Ukana, the State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua and the College of Science and Technology, Nung Ukim, Ikono. The locations and interconnectivity of these strategic institutions positions the Four Points By Sheraton hotel for business boom as patronage is guaranteed.

The hotel now has an app, and is seen on the global social media search engine under Marriott Group as the only Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Nigeria that is managed directly by the intentional hospitality organization..

Governor Udom Emmanuel has done profoundly and outstandingly well in Akwa Ibom State.

His achievements speak for themselves, he's one of the governors in Nigeria I admire a lot and wish to have in my state.

I wish Governors can be signed just like football managers, Abia State would have rushed to sign someone like Udom Emmanuel, who's a tested and trusted manager. Our Governors have sent us to relegation. We need redemption.

But most communities in Bayelsa state are battling with effects of environmental degradation like oil spills, contamination of water bodies etc. They are also battling with insecurities like militancy & kidnapping.
So I believe that most of their allocation goes into tackling these issues.
Hence, they have little money left for developmental projects & empowerment programmes for their citizens even if their allocation may be higher compared to those states that lack these challenges.

They receive one of the highest federal allocation in the south that's why they have enough finance to execute such gigantic & world-class projects.
You can't say the same about states like Abia, Imo, Bayelsa, Osun, & Cross Rivers which receive far less amount hence their low level of development

Correction: delta received the highest while rivers have the highest IGR so rest

In the south, the state govts build their airports with their resources and then hand them over to the FG, but in the north, the FG build the airports in the northern states
