Interesting conversation. You see my eyes have seen a lot. Some people like Op and his supporters will even ask you to finish 3d work before paying. I mean 3d work like a 3d music video of 4 minutes. Job that will cost nothing less than $1500. I'm quick to block them. Let me in fact tell you what they do. They go online, pose as animators, collect 3d animation job for a relatively good amount and give it to real animators for a stupid price. They can offer as little as $50 for 3 minutes video of nothing less than 3 scenes and 5 3d characters.

I have met a lot of them. And each time, I gladly turn them down. They have no inkling about anything 3D yet they tell you how much you should charge because some animator in Pakistan and India would do shitty job for shitty pay. I don't blame them when I meet them, I pity their condition and ignore. I've completed a minimum of 60 different 3d animation projects within the last one year and I can tell you that guys like Op are enemies of progress.

Check the attached image. This is their signature on fiverr. $70 for 2 minutes job. It's pathetic cos they rob we legit people of good opportunities. But GOD no dey leave him own people. We move!

I was in a mentoring session (face to face via zoom) with a top director from DreamWorks Chuck Austen (You can Google his name) recently. It was a privilege I was most grateful for as it has set me on a path I couldn't have imagined. I was one of two Nigerians on that meeting. My question to the veteran animator and filmmaker was simple.

I told him I can't have access to Hollywood education in filmmaking (by the way , I am a 3D animator and a storyteller and an aspiring filmmaker) or Ivy league education, what advise does he have? His response.

You don't need those two to get educated. But most importantly, he told me and the rest of the people (about 10 of us).... 'Whatever story or 3D work you have, push it out. The world is waiting for it'

Now to comment on Gammy.

The Nigerian entertainment space have been waiting for a good job like Gammy. What I saw up there is a job well done and I can't imagine the kind of work that must have gone into a 3D animation project like Gammy.

Anybody who feels otherwise doesn't either understand what goes into storytelling (in animation industry) starting from getting the script right. Imagine the kind of crappy contents nollywood has filled you with over the years, then watch that teaser again.

It's high time we appreciate our own.

You have spoken the truth and nothing but the truth. The lockdown presented with an opportunity to work with a producer from the US. We still have a few unfinished projects. Aside earning good on the projects, I was able to learn alot on cinematography from. He literarily tutored me on lighting techniques.

So let me take a cue from your message to anyone out there, you can't lose. Horn your skills during this lockdown.

You might think it will not lead you anywhere but it sure does.

I am using myself as an example. Typically, this lockdown would have had me screaming my lungs out had it been that I am in a white collar job or running a traditional business. Staying at home without earning money is a trauma.But thank God for all the sacrifices put into CGI, I am actually working from home. Working on an outsourced job all the way from Hyderabad. The pay is small but nonetheless satisfying.

So anyone still in this CGI stuff should put in extra pounds into work. Horn that skillset this period. Covid quarantine is an opportunity to progress.

This is why I believe in specialization and not being a generalist. With the this job offer aforementioned, you can see for yourself. I always advised people to specialize in one area of CGI once they grab the rudiments. Dont ever be the Jack of all trades. You will never be good enough.

Hello Great People,

I hope everyone is keeping safe during lockdown. I have been busy with an important project during this lockdown. The picture below says it all on what I have been busy with. This was a mention two days ago from a great American writer and producer (You can google his name). It took one project to convince him. This was a storyboarding of the first part of his movie trailer.

The first trailer of the movie is coming up soon. Hope I will remember to post it here.

So one thing I realise is that animation and storytelling are two very separate things. And I think most Nigerians in this line of work wants to be everything. The reason why I haven't been posting my work. and why I stopped making noise online is that I must learn both skills to stand out. So until I am very comfortable. Most people dont even know I animate this good on facebook. Because of the terrain we found ourselves and the Nigerian factor, one must learn by fire by force. So for a long while now, I have been horning my cinematography skills and I could just try things with the cameras in the software. My full time job has not allowed me learn fulltime. And lighting a dark scene? It has been the most challenging thing for me as you would think that shebi na to just press switch abi. But we keep getting better and I know something great will happen.

To cut long story short, if anyone would like to learn, I will tutor you. The lockdown have been good to me as I can keep learning my modelling skills gradually along side.

A prerequisite is a laptop as my previous attempt to teach ended in frustration because people do not just know what they want. Trust me, I am ok not to teach this as I value my time a lot. So many things to learn on YouTube.

Lastly, if I will charge for this training, it will be because of the time and data I will invest in the training and it will be a token (but then token is subjective right? RELAX!.

Please do not come and waste my time. The last time i tried this on nairaland, I got about 30 applications.
Only one person took it serious enough. He monetized this animation skill long before I did. And I wasted a lot of time on begging people to learn for free back then. And that's my only regret till today.

So showing interest isnt an automatic intake. You need to have a few resources too. And I am sorry if I dont sound warm and cordial. You will discover that I am nicer in person. And you cannot fault me for valuing my time.

Kindly note that, the employment is full-time and salary based. You will be required to manage the company's website and you can't work remotely. You have to resume every morning like every other admin staffs.

Iclone is now beyond the way y'all see it, they re going industrial standard too, I can give you links to watch some animated movies made in Iclone7, you will never believe iclone made them, lighting, vfx and animation are just as smooth as perfect... Also check out KEANU REEVES 2019 movie, 'REPLICAS', For previz and post viz techniques they used Iclone7, Including VFX too... You can check it out of you doubt it... Tho we are not disputing the fact that Maya, houdini, C4d and Co... Are industrial standard and best suited for animations, but trust me, no animator will never regret using Iclone as a tool.

But i have always hav issues with iclone as a full fledged 3d package. It is good as a previs tool and something to horn ones animation skills with but i dont think it will serve as a feature film or game cinematic tool.

I wouod suggest at this time, now that youve understood the concepts of animation , to move into the industry standard tools like Blender, Cinema4d, Maya, Modo, Houdini or 3dsmax

Well, thank you for your honest review.

I think you should check iclone out. It's not a full fledged 3D package like you mentined. If 'animation' is what you're interested in, it does that and does it well in real time. And the limitation to the video above was my engine. I'm getting my hands on how to export my scenes so I can use octane or redshift in 3ds max to render. Iclone inbuilt render engine seem to be Its limitation at this point. There are other 3rd parties render engine that has been incorporated. But like I said, you can only do so much with a given gaming gadget. And time is also a factor for someone like me with a separate career and salary job of 8 to 4 from anything 3D. In between, we must make our mark. 3D is just a side thing.

iCone will be part of the pipeline in getting industry standard quality until they get a couple of things fixed. Thank you all the same.

Revenge is my web series. And here is a the Trailer to the first episode. I hope I get good reviews so I can continue. I stopped updating my other thread where I was sharing how to animate a story line. It wasn't a proper story per say. I converted some of the scenes I created there and used them here.
