CultureIbadan High Chiefs Make U-turn, Decide To Continue With Court Case by Akinolore(op): 8:07am On Jan 30, 2022
The hope of Ibadan indigenes to get a new King in the city might not be realized earnest as there has been a new twist to the controversy surrounding the nomination, appointment, approval and announcement of Oba Lekan Balogun, who is the next in line to the throne, as the new Olubada.

It will be recalls that, governor Seyi Makinde, Olubadan-elect, Lekan Balogun, and other members of Olubadan-in-Council held a closed door meeting at the Governor’s house, Agodi Ibadan, where an agreement was made to resolve all lingering crisis delaying the announcement of new Olubadan of Ibadan land.

According to Osi Olubadan who spoke on behalf of the High chiefs after the meeting with the state governor, he said Micheal Lana (his lawyer), the state government lawyer and that of the other High Chiefs are to meet with a view to withdraw the pending case in court, added that it is after then that the process for the installation of the new Olubadan will commence".

In a new development to the issue,
Westerndailynews.com, gathered that Balogun and other members of the Olubadan-in-Council who were crowned Obas in 2017 are yet to fulfill their pledge to Governor Seyi Makinde that they would withdraw a case challenging a consent judgment earlier given on the matter.

It was reliably informed that rather than withdraw the case as they promised Governor Seyi Makinde at a meeting held in Government House two weeks ago, they appear to have resolved to see it to the end.

At the hearing of the case on January 14, Justice Munta Abimbola, who is the Chief Judge of the state, directed parties in the suit to further address the court on the validity or otherwise of the consent judgment in view of the decision of the Appeal Court.

The parties, through their lawyers, are to address Justice Abimbola on Tuesday [February 1]. When pressed for comment on whether moves had been made to withdraw the case, a former Attorney General of the state, Michael Lana, told Sunday Tribune that he was surprised to see that Balogun’s lawyers have filed a further written address instead of filing a notice of withdrawal of the case.

Lana, who is counsel for one of the defendants, said he and other lawyers had wanted to appeal the decision of Justice Abimbola that the parties address the court on the validity or otherwise of the consent judgment, but decided against doing so since the claimants said they would withdraw the case.

“We had 14 days to appeal the decision, but waited in view of the claimants’ expression of intent to withdraw the case as expressed during their meeting with Governor Makinde.

“But instead of a notice of withdrawal of the case,” he said, “we received their argument which they have filed before the court on the validity or otherwise of the consent judgment,” he said.

He said he had no choice than to approach the Appeal Court to challenge the issue of validity or otherwise of the consent judgment raised by Justice Abimbola.

According to him, the appeal was filed on Thursday, January 27, one day to the expiry of 14 days within which such action must be taken.

On the implication of the appeal, he said the case at the High Court would have to wait for the appeal to be decided.

The High Chiefs made obas are in court to challenge the consent judgment which set aside the gazette that recognised them as obas. Reacting to the development, the Senator representing Oyo South and younger brother to the Olubadan-designate, Dr Kola Balogun, gave an assurance that “the whole world will clap for Ibadan and our unique approach to handling matters this week.

PoliticsThe Ghost Of Lamidi Adedibu By Oladeinde Olawoyin by Akinolore(op): 9:21am On Nov 13, 2021
On Wednesday, a corpse materialized at the entrance of the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi. It was a corpse dressed in the regalia of protest. Yet the corpse reminds me that in Ibadan, the ghost of Lamidi Adedibu still hovers above the skies, spreading its wings across the firmament. The old fox already left, but he won’t let go of his tight grip on Oyo politics and governance space. Lamidi died thirteen years ago as the acclaimed 'strongman' of Ibadan politics, but his ghost haunts this city of brown rusted roofs, still.

First off, at the congress organized by the Adebisi Olopo-Eniyan faction of the PDP at Jogor Centre the other day, it was a macabre dance of guns, dagger, and bullets. By the time the dust settled, some itchy fingers and broken bottles had, reportedly, produced a broken limb and some bullet-riddled vehicles. At the other PDP (factional) congress organized by Governor Seyi Makinde and his allies at the Adamasingba Stadium, it was a peaceful festival of gongs, laughter, Amala and Gbegiri. But it was the sort of peace procured with the currency of the freedom of the 'other'. As Jean-Paul Sartre said, anyway, hell is other people.

In all, both at Jogor and Adamasingba, the ghost of Lamidi Adedibu haunts.

Within the Oyo APC, there is an ominous stalemate. Party stalwarts, elders and young men whose tall ambitions have been cut short are smarting from the specter of what's now known as 'Jagba'-ism. It's the fear of politicians that take without necessarily being asked to take. Ja-gba. It's political violence and mayhem launched without noise, without bloodshed, but with dirty gambits and subterfuge. Ja-gba. It's to take things by force without necessarily being forceful.

The man reportedly at the center of the spectacle, Senator Teslim Folarin, is a prominent disciple of Lamidi Adedibu----just like Adebayo Alao-Akala, another latter-day progressive whom Adedibu literally made Oyo's numero uno. Folarin it was who was chauffeured from the UK to Molete in the early 2000s, serenaded us with cute British diction on his way to the upper chamber in Abuja in 2003, tacitly supported Rashidi Ladoja's lawless impeachment by a band of brigands in 2006, was enmeshed in a supremacy battle with Alao-Akala in 2011, hobnobbed with the late Abiola Ajimobi in 2015 and 2019, and now schemes ahead of 2023.

And so in the most interesting of places, right at the backyard of Oyo 'progressives', Lamidi Adedibu re-appears yet again, unperturbed by the cacophony of voices screaming in rejection and disapproval.

But to be sure, Adedibu (or/and his doppelganger) isn't a stranger in the 'progressive' fold.

In his most authoritative book, What I Saw in the Politics and Chieftaincy Affairs of Ibadanland, Adedibu narrated how, in a fit of rage, he almost broke down the gate of Mapo Hall one sunny afternoon in the 1950s. It was a protest against what he considered Adegoke Adelabu's tyranny. At the time, Adedibu was a progressive, but he didn't care much about what was considered the core of progressivism: character. Of course the great Awo frowned at Adedibu's thuggish stunt, but as events of the years afterwards show, the late sage could not tame the beast in the old man.

Adedibu died a master tactician through and through. By a dint of hard work and sheer thuggery, of course with the generous support of the government at the centre, led by Olusegun Obasanjo, he built quite the reputation for himself in political chicanery and commoditization of electoral violence. To him, the end is all that mattered, however obscene the means appeared. And since politics is a game of results, it worked quite fine.

By the time he breathed his last, he had made a governor of a mere chairmanship aspirant, a deputy governor of an alleged vulcanizer, a senator of a carpenter, a Reps member of a motor boy----all through the instrumentality of force and subterfuge. But in fairness to the man, Adedibu's was one political tactic that was, er, 'violently democratic': he had his bait in covert weaponization of the people's poverty, through his Friday-Friday festival of Amala and Gbegiri, and occasional Ankara clothing materials distributed in Molete, with some wads of naira notes. In a way, aside the instrumentality of force, he actually schemed and toiled to earn the trust of the hoi polloi, the support of whom he traded among the bourgeoisie for influence and cash. That's why his Molete home was a Mecca of sort to all politicians from across Nigeria, both the refined and the lousy, even though the once bubbling edifice now lies lifelessly like a tired drunkard.

So the man whom Awo prevented from breaking down the gate of Mapo Hall in the 1950s would come around to pull up even bigger stunts: he would tear down heftier gates at the Agodi Government House by proxy, scheme for the violent displacement of an elected governor, make a mess of the state legislative arm, empower thugs and Oraisas who in turn became a law unto themselves, and whimsically decide the destiny of a whole state in his bedroom.

When Adedibu died in 2008, half of Ibadan residents who had had enough of the perennial brigandage burst into bitter-sweet dirges. Others, for whom he was a god, wept into the nights. His death was tragedy as harbinger of tragi-comedy. But twelve years on, Adedibu died as though he didn't die, and his ghost haunts.

The corpse at the Agodi Secretariat earlier in the week was Damilare Ojo's, a motorcyclist allegedly killed at Queen Cinema due to a disagreement over N100. The young man, or so said the angry crowd of Okada riders that brought him there, was murdered by marauding boys of the Oyo State Park Management System (PMS). The PMS boys are notorious for extortion, harassment, and violence. In recent months, they have graduated into a murderous mob. But folks see these things as though they don't see them. It's the sort of hypocrisy that fails, fabulously so, to hide its intent. Hush.

Earlier in June or so, the PMS boys struck at Iwo Road phone mart, allegedly leaving in their trail sorrows, tears, and blood. But theirs isn't any surprising metamorphosis, given the antecedent of their numero uno: Lamidi Auxiliary a.k.a Baba Rili of the Wulo-Wubo fame.

In August, I ran into the Wulo-Wubo convoy at Olodo, enroute to Iyana Church. In split seconds, some weird-looking hemp smokers chased us all off the road, leaving in their trail violent gymnastics and marijuana smoke. It was a script pulled out of the locust years of brigandage. Hush.

But again, it was no surprise after all. Auxiliary it was who was locked in a mortal combat with the late Lati Elewe-Omo, who, also by some design, had had some engagements with the relic, Akinsola Tokyo. Tokyo it was who worked for Ajimobi's 2011 mandate and, for eons, had struggled for space and influence with Tawa, another expired article.

They all are now artifacts of (better forgotten) history.

Yet between Auxiliary and Elewe-Omo, between Tokyo and Tawa, including even Fele Taofiki, there is a long list of bejeweled thugs ( Concord, Egbeda Tunnila, Gala, Alado, Ismail Agbaje, Alhaji Bola) who owe their notoriety and invincibility to Lamidi Adedibu, who in turn owed his to the conspiratorial support he enjoyed from the state. In a sense, Lamidi Adedibu has left the scene but his legacy endures in these boys, most notably now Auxiliary, an ally of the meek-looking Governor Makinde, who in turn is a political ally of Lamidi Adedibu's wife who's often too quick to brag that she is the governor's 'godmother', Bose Adedibu.

So head or tail, APC or PDP, Wulo-Wubo or Jagba, Lamidi Adedibu's ghost haunts Oyo, still. Only that this time, it's a top secret that isn’t secretive. Hush.

Oyo State Muslim Community Urges Gov. Makinde To Ensure Religious Justice In His New Cabinet

The Oyo state Muslim community has urged the executive governor of the state, Seyi Makinde to be fair enough to the Muslims during the selection of his new cabinet.

In a press statement signed by the chairman, Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni and
Alhaji Murisiku Siyanbade the Secretary-General after calling the state governor to notice how they complained about the
unbearable lopsidedness appointment he made in 2019, the Oyo state Muslim community Muslims in the state told governor Makinde that, he needed to consult all Muslim principal stakeholders within his party, so as to appoint
preponderance of Muslim professionals of the PDP, if only he is ready to appoint
Muslims.

The press release read :

ENSURE RELIGIOUS JUSTICE IN YOUR NEW CABINET

It is no longer news that the Oyo State Governor, H.E. Engineer Seyi Makinde, in exercising his constitutional right, has dissolved his cabinet. Nobody conversant with the law can query the power of a Governor to hire and fire any of his political appointees.

The buck of Governance of the State ends on the Governor’s table.
If the Governor’s performance is perceived to be marvelous, commendable and praiseworthy, his aides don’t take the credit, he does. However, if his performance is lacklustre, poor, condemnable and worthless, his appointees are not blamable nor condemnable, the Governor bears the brunt and wholly takes the blame.

Only the Governor knows the qualities he found in who those he appoints before appointing them and why he decided to relieve them of their appointments.

What concerns us as a Muslim Community is, ensuring that the rights of the Muslims are not jeopardized in the hurly-burly and political gerrymandering In the State.

When Governor Makinde first came into office in 2019, he (in August of that year), appointed 14 Commissioners, as members of the State Executive Council. He had earlier appointed Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff, the highest ranking members of the Executive Council, both of whom are Christians. In the same vein, while His Excellency and his Deputy were both elected, he inherited the Head of Service.

In this write-up, we are only going to be looking at appointments directly made by His Excellency, The Governor. Thus, the SSG, Chief of Staff and 14 Commissioners, totalling 16, were the only officials appointed by The Governor directly in 2019. The lion's share of 11went to the Christians while only a smattering 5 were Muslims - ratio 11:5 , against Muslims

Please find below the list of the 2019 appointed members of Oyo State Executive Council:

1. Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun - Secretary to the State Government -
(CHRISTIAN)
2. Chief Bisi Ilaka - Chief of Staff -
(CHRISTIAN)
3. Hon. Barrister Adeniyi John
Farinto - Commissioner for Budget
& Planning -
(CHRISTIAN)
4.. Mr Adeniyi Adebisi –
Commissioner for Commerce
(CHRISTIAN)
5. Hon. Muyiwa Jacob Ojekunle – Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development - (CHRISTIAN)
6. Prof Oyelowo Oyewo –
Commissioner for Justice
(CHRISTIAN)
7. Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye – Commissioner for Establishment and Training - (CHRISTIAN)
8. Barrister Seun Asamu – Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources - (MUSLIM)
9. Mr Rahman Abiodun AbdulRaheem – Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development - (MUSLIM)
10. Chief Bayo Lawal – Commissioner for Special Duties
(MUSLIM)
11. Hon Funmilayo Orisadeyi – Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftancy Matters
(CHRISTIAN)
12. Dr Bashir Bello – Commissioner
for Health - (MUSLIM)
13. Hon Wasiu Olatunbosun –
Commissioner for Information
and Mass Mobilization - (MUSLIM)
14. Prof Kehinde Sangodoyin
– Commissioner for Education,
Science and Technology
- (CHRISTIAN)
15. Mr Akinola Ojo – Commissioner
for Finance - (CHRISTIAN)
16. Rt Hon Kehinde Ayoola –
Commissioner for Environment
and Natural Resources
- (CHRISTIAN)

In our usual manner, we called the attention of His Excellency to this unbearable lopsidedness. While the Governor initially exhibited some gubernatorial taciturnity, some of his strong supporters attempted to pull wool over our face by pointing to two of his appointees who bear Muslim names but are proud and unrepentant Christians. These were Mr Luqman Bisi Ilaka and Prof Daud Sangodoyin

The Governor’s ultimate demonstration of wanting to hearken to our protestations resulted in the eventual appointment of Alhaja Fausat Sanni as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion; In addition, when the first Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, who happened to be a Christian died, a Muslim, Dr Abdulateef Idowu Oyeleke was appointed to replace him. Alhaji Siju Lawal also came on board as Commissioner for Establishments and Training. Muslims perceived this as perhaps a starting point for righting the wrongs.

Recently, in June 2021, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde announced dissolution of Oyo State Executive Council. Just this week, we heard of the appointment of Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi as Chief of Staff to His Excellency, The Governor. Our thinking was that, since a Christian had occupied the position of Secretary to the State Government, the only other BIG Executive Council position, Chief of Staff, should have been given to a Muslim. This would have gone a long way in assuaging the feelings of Muslims in the State.

We hereby admonish H.E. Engr Seyi Makinde, to spare us a listening ear. Your Excellency, you don't lose anything by promoting religious equity in all that you do sir. Rather, you win more hearts

In the demographics of Oyo State, Muslims are unarguably in the overwhelming majority. What we have always clamoured for, in spite of our numerical superiority, is equal number of Christians to that of Muslims in all appointments. We also clamour that in other policy decisions of government, the two major religions should be given equal considerations.

It is distasteful and demeaning to our sensibilities for somebody to be talking of meritocracy as the yardstick for appointment into offices. We do not know of any professional calling where we don’t have higher-flying Muslims.

It is pertinent to state that, when we talk of appointment of Muslims into political offices, our focus is only on members of the Governor’s political party, PDP. It is equally a truism that there is a preponderance of Muslim professionals within the PDP. We therefore urge the Governor to collaborate with all Muslim principal stakeholders within the party. This would enable him to pick genuine Muslims for his new Cabinet and he should then be assured of the support of the Muslims in the state, in as much as he ensures religious justice in all spheres of governance.

May Almighty Allah continue to grant us peace and peaceful co-existence in Oyo State, Aamin.

PoliticsSunday Igboho’s Lawyer Demands 500m As Damages, Apology From DSS by Akinolore(op): 9:54am On Jul 04, 2021
Yomi Alliyu, SAN, lawyer to Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho has demanded a N500m as damages and a public apology from the Department of State Services for allegedly trampling on the rights of his client and for destroying his Ibadan residence when the secret police ‘raided’ the house early Thursday.

PRESS RELEASE ON

Illegal gang Grossly Unconstitutional Invasion of Sunday Igboho Residence

We are Counsel to Chief Sunday Adeyemo othewise known as Sunday Igboho Oosa and we have his standing instructions to defend and act as Counsel in all situations we deem appropriate especially where his fundamental rights as a Citizen of Nigeria is violated or threatened as done on Thursday 1st July, 2021.

2. Every Nigerian, albeit the whole world, is aware that in his open crusade for the establishment of Oodua Republic our client has always preached peace and warned his followers never to have recourse to violence saying that “it is God and alale" that will fight for Yoruba Nation.

We can boldly say that as people who followed his campaign, but not necessarily supporting dismemberment of Nigeria, that no casualty has ever occurred wherever such rallies were carried out. This must have been done in more than 20 Yoruba towns and cities as at date.

3. To now invade the residence of such a peace loving crusader is tantamount to calling a dog a bad name to hang it. It must be reiterated, and with emphasis, that it is the right of a group of homogeneous and/or indigenous people in a Federation to ask for self determination in accordance with the rules of international law and UNO Charter. Our Constitution also permits freedom of association and, by necessary implications, freedom to dissociate.

4. We were reliably informed that DSS and other security forces invaded the residence of our Client in wee hours of the day ( between 1.00hr and 4.30hrs). There is no where in civilised world that a citizen who had no prior invitation by security agent or resisting arrest will be so invaded with his rights to dignity of human persons, ownership of property and sanctity of life trampled upon during the invasion. S. 12 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act enjoins the police and/or any security operatives to first make a demand to enter a place where a suspect is and if their demand was not granted to break open the “outer or inner door of any house or place.” No demand to enter was made but rather they shot their way into the house allegedly killing seven (7) people though DSS spokesman admitted killing two people which involved an old imam that used to lead Muslim occupants in prayers and observing TAHJUD at the time of the barbaric raid. A lady among the invaders was allegedly shouting, “if you get him gun him down.” There and then our client knew that the mission was to get rid of him and NOT to arrest him. This belief becomes morerealiatic in view of the fact that the CCTV recorder was off and taken away so that the carnage will not be shown to members of the public. Our client then knew that he was to be taking dead or alive as allegedly stated by the lady among the raiders.

5. It should be stated that without any resistance or shooting at the security operatives they started shooting from the gate and ensuring that the building was totally made uninhabitable. Also, all the expensive vehicles in our clients house were shot at and destroyed.

6. The rampaging operatives were disappointed that they could allegedly not find a single gun or ammunition in our client’s house hence their arresting two (2) police escorts of Mr Sunday Igboho's guests and added their guns to those harvested from their armoury with a view to making members of the public to believe that our client keeps militia or as stated by them, he is about waging war on Nigeria. Will this be with his mere amulets. People who know our client of over 20 years will testify that Igboho Oosa does not carry gun on his person!

7. It is elementary law that whenever a search warrant is executed on a house the house owner must first search the persons sent to execute same and also sign the inventory of what were recovered in executing the warrant! This explains why the DSS invaded the house in the night shooting everything at sight, killing and maiming the occupants to plant their illegal guns on our client. We have also been reliably informed that those arrested were being tortured to incriminate our client that guns and ammunitions were recovered from his house. Sunday Igboho knew that he would be arrested one day hence retaining our services. He could not be that daft to keep incriminating articles in his house! Our clients house is a 5 bedroom duplex with 5 chalets of 2 and 3 bedrooms. These were totally damaged with operatives allegedly arguing on whether to burn down the edifice as done to his former palatial house. The lady officer allegedly put her foot down against arson.

8. One thousand euro, two million naira, expensive jewelleries worth millions, travel documents, amulets, iPhone 12 belonging to him, phones of about 15 others living in the house including those killed by the raiders and other belongings yet to be identified belonging to his wives were carted away. The only guns were those of the police escorts of his guests!

9. More importantly, the DSS and other operatives that raided the house said they came to arrest Sunday Igboho but ended up arresting innocent people in lieu of him.

Apart from being a serious violation of these peoples’ peoples constitutional rights it is an assault on s. 7 of ACJA and decisions of our Courts in that regard.

10 We hereby demand that the Federal Government orders an investigation into the actions of the various security operatives led by DSS that raided Chief Sunday Adeyemo's house with a view to sanctioning them and release all the innocent people arrested and compensate the families of those murdered. Our client should also be paid #500million as reparation for damage to his exotic cars that include Mercedes Benz G-Class and 2019 Lexus Car. We also demand a public apology.

11. Most importantly, trampling of our client’s fundamental rights including tagging him as criminal by exhibiting DSS guns as his should stop forthwith. In any case as admirers of this government and one Nigeria we personally implore all the Governors of Southwest States that know the yearnings of their people and Igboho’s large followership to wade in before it becomes hydra headed security problems in all their domains.

DATED this 3rd day of July, 2021.

S'West PDP : Over 150 Ballot Papers Released To Makinde's Group To Manipulate Congress - State Chairmen Allege

.......... Wants Secondus Signature On Ballot Papers

Ahead of the Southwest Zonal Congress of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled for tomorrow in Oshogbo, in Osun State, four State Chairmen of the party in the zone have raised the alarm over alleged release of over 150 ballot papers for the election of National Vice Chairman and Zonal Secretary to the group led by the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.

They alleged that the hatchet job of stuffing the ballot boxes with the illegally released ballot papers was to be supervised and achieved by a certain Senator Anyanwu, from Imo State, who was nominated as Secretary of the Congress Committee by Governor Makinde’s group.

The petition to the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, dated April 10, 2021, was signed by the Chairman of Ogun State, Dr Sikirulai Ogundele, on behalf of the PDP chairmen in Ekiti, Lagos, Osun States, Otunba Bisi Kolawole, Engr Adedeji Doherty and Hon Sunday Bisi respectively.

The chairmen, who demanded that all ballot papers to be used for the congress should be signed by the National Chairman and that they must not exceed the number of delegates, added that Observers/Monitors should be deployed by the party to save the party from impending anarchy.

The petition reads; "I write on behalf of the Chairmen of Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and Ogun States to inform you of the clandestine plot to manipulate the South-West Congress scheduled for Monday, in Osogbo, Osun State.

"We have been reliably informed that over 150 (One hundred and Fifty) ballot papers for the election of National Vice Chairman and Zonal Secretary have been released to the group led by the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, to manipulate the Zonal Congress on Monday. This is coming after the failure of all the clandestine plots to manipulate the delegate lists.

"These ballot papers were said to have been released through the office of the National Organising Secretary by one Prince Adeyemi.

"The ballot papers are to be handed to some selected delegates from Oyo State in particular, to dump in the ballot boxes with the ballot papers to be given to them during voting.

"The hatchet job of stuffing the ballot boxes with these illegally released ballot papers is to be supervised and achieved by a certain Senator Anyanwu, from Imo State, who was nominated as Secretary of the Congress Committee by Governor Makinde’s group.

"Considering the antecedents of Senator Anyanwu, who we learnt has done similar hatchet job back-to-back in more than five congresses of the party, we wish to state that we will not be vigilant, but will resist him vehemently as this Southwest congress is neither for sale nor a paddy paddy business.

"Also, we are not unaware of possible hijack of the congress materials on Monday, especially the result sheets.

"We therefore call on the party to ensure a credible congress by compelling the Office of the National Organising Secretary to make sure that number of ballot papers released and the serial numbers are made public.

"All ballot papers to be used for the congress must be SIGNED by your good-self and they must not exceed the number of delegates.

"All congress materials, especially the ballot papers and result sheets must be inspected agreeable to all aspirants before voting.

"Any attempt to hijack or divert the congress materials will be resisted.

"To us, yesterday’s impunity should no longer be associated with our great party, as nothing other than a free, fair and transparent congress will be accepted.

"In view of this, we request that Observers/Monitors should be deployed by the party to save the party from this impending anarchy.

"In closing, the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Dr Samuel Ortom, who was agreed to be the Congress Committee Chairman is said to be sending his Deputy. We hope that the Deputy Governor of Benue State will ensure that the uprightness and integrity that Governor Ortom is noted for will manifest in his handling of the congress."

CrimeMy Utterances, A Slip Of Tongue - Igboho Begs Oni Of Ife, Others (Video) by Akinolore(op): 10:31pm On Feb 03, 2021
Yoruba rights activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho has asked for forgiveness from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over a statement he made about the monarch’s visit to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Igboho, who had issued an ultimatum for Fulani herdsmen to vacate Oyo State over their alleged criminal activities, had criticised the monarch saying he failed to tell the President the truth about the crisis during the visit.

Speaking on Wednesday morning at a virtual ‘Townhall With Yoruba In Diaspora’ monitored by The PUNCH, Igboho expressed surprise that the monarch decided to tackle him instead.

He said, “When Ooni met with Buhari over the herdsmen issue, Ooni should have told Buhari the truth but he did not. When Ooni returned, he started tackling me to leave the remaining task to the government to finish. You can imagine that kind of talk?

“Alaafin of Oyo has asked me to meet him over the matter. Alaafin should have been the one invited to meet Buhari but since the Ooni was invited, he should be bold to tell the President the whole truth and make the demands of the Yoruba people known to the President.

“The Ooni disappointed himself. Some politicians are behind Ooni’s latest move. He invited me to his palace but I refused to go. I would have gone if he had represented us well but he did not. I won’t honour any monarch who does not cooperate with me. Enough is enough, the Fulani have done enough.”

Hours after the town hall meeting, Igboho, in an interview with Isokan Omo Oodua TV monitored by The PUNCH, denied insulting the monarch.

He, however, begged for forgiveness if whatever he said appeared as an insult to the monarch whom he described as a father to him.

“They said I insulted the Ooni of Ife. I and the monarch, as well as the Olugbon, have spoken on the phone,” he said.

He continued, “The Yoruba tradition doesn’t permit the insult of elders. But because I was pained by the issue, my tongue was caught up in the moment. I spoke according to how pained I was. It wasn’t the Ooni alone I directed my words at, I also did to other elders.

“It’s a case of father and child. I and the monarch have spoken as well as the Olugbon. I did not insult the Ooni. And if it appears as if I did, he should forgive me.”

Wakili's Threat : Igangan Imposes Curfew Over Fear Of Reprisals

Following the continuous threat to attack Igangan communities by Wakili, a Fulani herdsmen over the eviction of herders last week by Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho,
a dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed on Igangan.

Westerndailynews had earlier reported according to one Mr. Adepoju Adisa a resident of Ayete
that, after the seven days ultimatum, many of the Fulanis are living but Wakili one of the herdsman is regrouping those people, and presently had gathered over 200 herdsmen preparing to attack some of the communities in Ibarapa.

According to Oladokun Oladiran, Convener, Igangan Development Advocates, he said the curfew option was because of lack of faith in security measures by the government.

He said have not seen the 200 Amotekun operatives reportedly deployed by Governor Seyi Makinde.

He urged the Governor to personally visit the affected communities to see things for himself, especially the havocs unleashed on residents by criminal herdsmen.

He said: “Igangan is going smoothly, things are fine. The town imposed a curfew of 9 pm to 5 am just to secure lives and property.

“It was the joint decision of the monarch, his chiefs, council of elders and all the bodies and associations in Igangan.

“It was a consensus and everyone and anything from 9 pm, there would be a patrol. This is to prevent reprisal attacks.

“The Operation Burst has been deployed to resume patrol including the local vigilante group whom I know would not also go to sleep.”

Emphasising people of Igangan are not against Fulanis in their midst, he explained: “As we speak, if you get to a particular we call Ile Bamogba in Igangan, presently as we speak, you will find Fulanis there. They are living peacefully, going about their daily chores, unthreatened.

“If you get to AUD in Igangan, right now, you will find Fulanis there living peacefully in their houses, coexisting peacefully with our people and they are unthreatened.

PoliticsWhat I Discussed With Buhari – Oyo State Gov. Seyi Makinde by Akinolore(op): 9:10pm On Jan 27, 2021
What I Discussed With Buhari – Gov. Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Wednesday, met with President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the security situation in the state, declaring that his administration remains resolute about fighting bandits, hoodlums, armed robbers and kidnappers.

Makinde, who addressed State House Correspondents in Abuja said that the real enemies of the state are the criminal elements.

He equally sought for greater synergy between the state and the federal security agencies, noting that collaborations are required for the state’s security plans to work effectively.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Makinde told the newsmen that he was in Abuja to brief the President on the security situation in Oyo.

The governor said: “I came to brief the President on the security situation in Oyo State. There has been a lot of fake news all around and I wanted to be sure that the President clearly has first-hand information from me, which I did.

“We also exchanged ideas about what we need to do better; some of the programmes we have put in place to ensure that this security issue is tackled. So, that’s basically why I came here.

" The issue that I discussed with Mr. President is the fact that Oyo State landmass is quite big. Oyo State is close to 29,000 square kilometres. And the state right now only has two Mobile Police Squadrons.

“So, I requested for more Mobile Police Squadrons to be deployed to Oyo State and also asked for support for the joint security outfit because the underlying issue here also has to do with limited opportunities. The tension will definitely go down if a lot of our youths are gainfully employed. So, I briefed the President on what we are doing in that regard.

“We have a history of living together peacefully among all the ethnic groups that are present in Oyo State. For instance, what triggered all of these was that Dr. Aborode was brutally murdered; that is criminal. But on the other hand, the Seriki, Alhaji Kabir, has been staying in that same place for 40 years. So, quite frankly, the people we are after are criminals – they are the bandits, hoodlums, armed robbers, kidnappers. Those are the true enemies of the state and those are the people we will go after.

“The Constitution of Nigeria guarantees that you can live in any part of Nigeria. You just have to be law-abiding and obey the local laws in such areas. That is what we are pushing and will continue to push as a government.”
