A chieftain of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Oyo state, Chief Bisi Olopoeyan has explained his special admiration for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Olopoeyan, who was a former leader of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Oyo State, stated that although he is not in the same party with Tinubu, he sees him as someone who has fought relentlessly for many people.

In an interview with a local-based outlet — Water Radio monitored by The Nation, he said: “Tinubu is a good person. I know him personally but we’ve not had official dealings together.

“I’ve seen so many people who have emerged through him. I do not hate him because when you see someone who is thriving, and people are thriving through him too, then you’ll know he’s a good person.

“We may not belong to the same party, but I respect him very much.

“I’ve sat with him before, and I’ve seen so many things, especially how the likes of Gbajabiamila, Osinbajo, and many others he has fought for. All of these are enough for people to respect him.”

Politics5km LG Roads Repair Request After Criticism Shows Makinde Has No Blueprint by Akinolore(op): 10:59am On Aug 21, 2022
5km LG Roads Repair Request After Criticism Shows Makinde Has No Blueprint To Govern - Oyo Progressives

The Oyo State Progressives under the banner of Oyo Progressives Reformer (OPR) on Sunday described the circular requesting for 5km of reads from the 33 local government areas of the state for repair as admittance of failure on the part of the state government.

The Publicity Secretary, Oyo Progressives Reformers, Dr. AbdulAzeez Olatunde in a statement on Sunday said "to "add salt to injury" , a Non performing Government, is taking the Oyo Electorates for granted by mooting the idea of asking for our votes for second (2nd) term mandate."

The directive followed criticism by some groups and opposition parties in the state that the state government in the last three years has killed local government administration in the state.

It was ealier reports that a Circular of 19th August 2022, with Reference Number (I.F...43/62/Vol 1) directed to the all the 33 Local Government Chairmen and HLGAs, signed by M. A, BOLARINWA, Director Inspectorate for Hon Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, with clear directive to submit 5km Roads in their LG for Reconstruction or Repairs.

The Circular went further in giving deadline of Monday 22nd or Tuesday 23rd of August to submit.

But Oyo Progressives Reformer in the statement said; "That it has taken viral criticism of Gov Seyi Makinde's Government in the last ten days for the Government to wake up from it's slumber and be alive to its responsibilities of Repairing or reconstructing Roads in Ibadan and Oyo State in General is another confirmation of "AN ACCIDENTAL GOVERNOR".

"What further confirmation do we need to know that this Government had No Blueprint to Govern.

"By 29th of August 2022, would mark the 39th Month of the 48 month mandate given to this Government.

"By virtue of this, development, it has confirmed the following to us :

"That there is No autonomy to the Local Government to operate under this Government of Engr SEYI MAKINDE, if not, why is it the State instructing the Local Government to bring the Roads to Reconstruct or Repair.
"Certainly, if the Government of Engr SEYI MAKINDE was not giving OPEN CHALLENGE of telling us any ONE Km Road repaired from 2019 - 2022(date), when most Rural and Township Roads had suffered Rain-inflicted Erosion hence the cry of the Farmers,Rural and City dwellers which was why we AMPLIFIED IT.

"With the Circular Of 19th August 2022, the Government has openly admitted failure to its social responsibility of NOT providing easy access Roads between the Township and Rural dwellers.
"Therefore, with Bad Roads, the farmers will not have enough Commuting vehicles to Transport their farm produce hence the high cost of Food items. Oyo State Electorates shall speak with their votes when the time comes."

Politics2023: Allow Nigerians Vote On Merit, Not Religious Persuasion, Group Urges CAN by Akinolore(op): 6:33pm On Aug 08, 2022
Yoruba Muslim Youths Organisation (YMYO) on Monday urged a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal; a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to stop stressing the nation's fault lines, but promote good governance ahead of 2023 general elections.

Dogara and Lawal, chieftains of the All Progressives Congress and some leaders of the CAN had in recent times, argued against the emergence of party's flagbearers for the next election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Senator Shettima, saying it was against religious balancing.

But the Muslim youths, in a press statement made available to newsmenthrough its Coordinator, Alhaji Muritala Abdulsalam disagreed on the position of the opponents of the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The group argued in favour of Tinubu and Shettima, saying their combination would be a blessing to Nigeria which is yearning for good governance and greater unity of its component parts.

He queried why a religious body like CAN has been so vociferous on the matter, asking whether CAN is now an appendage of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)," he asked rhetorically.

"'Does the Constitution recognises that an adherent of a particular sect be the President and running mate?

"Instead of yearning for good governance and accountability, CAN is busy itself with APC Muslim-Muslim ticket.

"CAN as a body of eminent Christian Leaders should not abdicate its primary responsibility of promoting Christ by spreading the gospel and serves as a watch-dog of the spiritual and moral welfare of the nation.

"What has the so-called Christian leaders in many of the States and those that had held sway as Governors and even in the presidency done to the body of Christ over the years? Where have they been different from other rulers who had so far administered this nation?

"For us in the YMYO, we wish to counsel CAN to be watchful of their utterances and not push the Muslim Youths to a situation where we would begin to demand equity, justice and fair play in all the States where Christians were both Governors and Deputy Governors.

"In the Southwest alone, Muslims are not raising eyebrow out of the current realities where all the Governors except Osun State helmsman are Chrsitians.

Akeredolu, Ondo State Governor is a Christian and his Deputy is also a Christian. Governor Fayemi of Ekiti State and deputy are Christians too, yet Muslims have never complained of such perceived irregularities. CAN is stressing our fault lines and they need to exercise restraints.

"Muslim bodies and our leaders have never written any statement or spoken publicly to condemn Christian-Christian leaders at many States of the federation. What we would rather appeal to CAN to do, is to preach peace, speak truth to power and pray for entrenchment of God-fearing leaders in 2023 and beyond.

"Babachir Lawal should also shut up and fear God. Did anybody considers his religious persuasion before he was made the SGF where he performed below expectations and even made mess of it, to the extent that he has a date with the EFCC?

"For the likes of Dogara and Babachir, let them know that in the Southwest Nigeria, religion has never been an issue amongst our people. We promote merit and always yearn for good governance.

"Let's vote on merit and cometence of the people. Enough is enough. Religious leaders are just distracting the people from the reality of insecurity and poverty in the land.

"They should better address who amongst the candidates can tackle the problems on ground.

"Kidnappings, banditry, Boko Haram are issues that we must urgently address as a matter of national emergency.

"CAN is yet to talk about irregularities in the opposition parry. The PDP alone is tilting towards a Northern political party where all the major political leaders from the BoT Chairman, Party's National Chairman and even the presidential candidate are all from the North at the expense of Southern Region?," the group added.

PoliticsOyo NNPP Accuses PDP Thugs Of Destroying Guber Candidate's Billboards by Akinolore(op): 5:44pm On Aug 07, 2022
The Oyo State chapter of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has blasted the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) over the destruction of the billboards of its governorship candidate, Engr. Popoola Olukayode Josuah, popularly known as POJ.

Oyo NNPP said the PDP was destroying its billboards to curtail the rising popularity of its candidate, Popoola Olukayode, and asked if the APC administration has ever done that to the PDP before the 2019 elections.

The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Femi Olaitan Hero, described the development as an act of intimidation and a sign that the Oyo PDP is feeling the presence of NNPP in the state.

While condemning the illegal activity in its entity, NNPP added that PDP and governor Seyi Makinde are jittery of their impending defeat in the 2023 elections.

" PDP is turning Oyo state to a lawless state, the present administration's encouragement to brigandage and support giving to hooliganism is second to none.

" Continuous attack on members of opposition and destruction of opposition campaign billboards and posters has clearly shown that governor Makinde and his party have accepted defeat even before the action proper.

" The rate at which PDP thugs are vandalizing our party governorship candidate, POJ billboards, and posters is alarming, their intention is to stop his increasing acceptability in the state.

" Oyo PDP and Makinde are not tolerant, unlike the late Ajimobi administration, no single billboard or poster of governor Seyi Makinde was vandalized in the state before and during the campaign, even though, Ejiogbe and his boys were at the affairs of the NURTW then, now governor Seyi Makinde is making use of Mr. Mukaila Lamidi popularly known Auxiliary, an ex-convict to terrorize all opposition parties and even people of the state.

" PDP is aware that the people have rejected their governance in the state and their new strategy is to resort to intimidation of the preferred opposition party which our party NNPP represents,” Hero added.

The Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola made this disclosure after the Olubadan Advisory Council meeting held at the Alarere, Olubadan's palace Monday.

While reporting on the meeting, which had in attendance all the High Chiefs led by Balogun of Ibadanland and Otun Olubadan designate and the former governor of Oyo State, Owolabi Olakulehin and Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja respectively.
