This is being the outcome of its State Congress held at Recreation Club, Adamasingba, Ibadan and and local government congress held across the 33 local government areas of the state. It was gathered that, all the 33 local government areas of Oyo state got at least a position in the state executive of New Nigerian People's Party. The swearing-in of the state Executive Committee and local government party Chairmen of NNNP was witnessed by some familiar faces from People's Democratic Party ( PDP ) and All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in the state. In his acceptance speech, Adegbola Adesesan thanked the delegates for their support and the party leadership that has provided him the opportunity to serve. Speaking with reporters after the inauguration, the NNPP Chairman, Adesesan pledged to lead Oyo NNPP to power come 2023, said governor Seyi Makinde has lost the opportunity to be an 8 years governor. According to the newly sworn-in state chaiman, " Finally an alternative party has come, a political party with human face is here. NNPP is here to replace PDP in the forthcoming elections. Both PDP and APC have failed Oyo state people and have nothing to offer any more, it is just unfortunate that the PDP-led government in the state went ahead to hire some unemployed youths, asking them to be overhyping their administration, giving them #10,000 as stipends at the end of every month, whereas, governor Seyi Makinde has nothing modern and economic wiseness to show for almost three years he has spent in government. Our party manifesto is designed to cater for the masses unlike past and present government in the state that failed to take welfarism of the masses as important. The PDP administration in the state despite promised during campaign, failed to pay #18,000 minimum wage to the state workers since 2019, moreso unnecessary deduction from workers salaries. Governor Makinde's administration denied primary school workers promotion since and very few that were promoted have complaints, moreso, late payment of grants to schools, how long are we going to allow our children to copy examination's questions from Chalkboard ? Our people in Oyo state are tired of PDP-led government for lack of security, it is glaring the party, PDP didn't prepare they just packaged unripe product for Oyo state people. " Just imagine, PDP-led government in the state borrowing money without anything to show for it ? governor Makinde led PDP borrowed money for farm settlement nothing came forth, they borrowed money to buy transit buses for over a year now without any economic benefit to the state. The borrowed money now down the drain, the Light up Oyo project is already dead on arrival as 27 billion turns to wasted. Moreso, It is high time we stopped a party that believes in accommodating thuggery and hooliganism, PDP in Oyo state is fond of associating with touts; Oyo state residents rejected them in 2011, we tried to give them opportunity again in 2019 after 8 years of Ajimobi but here is the result of a disappointing government. " Today is the beginning of a better tomorrow, I want Oyo state people to join hands together to restore our state's past glory, we have brought the new party, NNPP for a better life and assurance for the betterment of our coming generations". NNPP Oyo state chairman stated. Nigeria’s Next President Must Come From The South - Makinde, Fayose, Mimiko Other S'W PDP Leaders Join Agitation The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-West Zone, on Tuesday insisted that Nigeria’s next president should emerge from the Southern part of the country. The party, at an extended zonal caucus meeting held at the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, said that it was in support of the position of the Southern Governors’ Forum that Southern Nigeria should produce the next president. This was as the party reaffirmed its call for the restructuring of Nigeria, stating that it will support all efforts geared towards national cohesion through equitable distribution of federal positions and appointments among the geopolitical zones of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. According to a communique read by the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-West, Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo, the party has resolved that the unity of its members in the zone is non-negotiable and that all mechanisms for dispute resolutions must be on the front burner. The party equally resolved to do everything within its power lawfully to win the forthcoming elections in Osun and Ekiti states. A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the governor, who is the leader of the party in the South-West, was commended by the caucus for his infrastructure development strides and his efforts in repositioning the PDP across states of the zone. In his keynote speech, Governor Makinde called on all members of the party to de-emphasise whatever issues they have with individuals and unite in the interest of the party both at the zonal and national levels, as according to him, the South-West zone remained critical to the success of the PDP in the country. He said: “We are in the election season already. The timetable is out and candidates for various positions will emerge within the next eight to nine weeks. And as PDP South-West zone, what position are we presenting? “We know that if South-West and Yorubaland is not peaceful, things would not also be settled nationally. “That is just the fact. We have also gone through the path that, because of disunity, we were left out in the scheme of things. “When the founding fathers of this party came together, they spoke about fairness, equity, justice and they decided that the six major positions nationally must be shared among the six zones of Nigeria. That has always been the case until 2011. Because of the in-fighting, disunity, the South-West did not have a single position out of the six national positions. “For the avoidance of doubt, I can list those six positions. In 2011, the president did not come from the South-West but South South. The vice-president did not come from the South-West but North-West. “The Senate President came from the North-Central. The Speaker of the House of Representatives went to the North-West, while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation slot also went to the South-East. The Chairman of the party went to the North-East. “That was how we lost all completely and we don’t want to walk through that path again. It has happened to us before and we don’t want it to happen again. “But the only way it won’t happen again is for us to unite and de-emphasize whatever issues we have with ourselves individually. “We must come together to tell ourselves what we are going to demand nationally.” Governor Makinde maintained that though the South-West PDP had three opportunities through the off-season elections in Ondo, Ekiti and Osun for the governorship seats, in-fighting has already made it lose in Ondo State. “Ondo State governorship election is coming back in another two years. But before then, we have the Ekiti governorship election coming up. We thank God that we have been able to get everybody together but there is still a lot of work to be done, if Ekiti will not go the way of Ondo. “I do pray because I know we have another opportunity to support our candidate in Ekiti State, so that in two months plus, we will have a governor-elect in the state. “We also have Osun State, which practically is in a difficult situation. They have issues from the governorship primary, which is not supposed to be. South-West is known as the zone to provide leadership for this country. “Truth is, we are going to be the ultimate losers and what happened in the past will happen again if we don’t get our acts together. “I make bold to say that those aspiring for the presidency and are using our people against us, there are only two and a half months left. You can force yourself to win the party’s primary but can you force yourself on the populace? “This is an opportunity for us to recalibrate and have a common position, moving forward in the national engagement with the unfolding scenario nationally.” Reading the communique at the end of the meeting, Adagunodo said: “The unity of the PDP South-West Zone is a non-negotiable issue, to this end, we demand that all dispute resolution mechanisms should be on the front burner. “The PDP South-West Zone is in support of the Southern Governors’ Forum that the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should come from the south. “The Zone commends the only PDP Governor in the zone, Engr. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, for his infrastructural and development strides in the zone. “The Zone has agreed that we should do everything possible within our power to deliver Osun and Ekiti states to the party in their forthcoming offseason governorship elections. “The Zone is desirous of fairness, justice, and equity in the distribution of Federal positions and appointments and will support all efforts geared towards national cohesion through equitable distribution of federal positions and appointments amongst the geopolitical zones of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “The South-West Zone reaffirms its position on restructuring of Nigeria.” The meeting had in attendance the former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Olabode George; former Governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Olusegun Mimiko and Ayodele Fayose of Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states respectively; serving and former National Assembly members; former deputy governors. Others were the PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Oladejo Arapaja; former governorship candidates of the PDP in Ogun and Ekiti states, Hon. Ladi Adebutu and Prof. Olusola Eleka Kolapo and other former and serving PDP leaders at the national level. Therefore, I pledge to run an open and transparent administration where all party members will be carried along. Also, our administration will instil discipline, respect for rule of law and constituted authorities within and outside the party. “Apart from genuine reconciliation and harmonisation, our administration has also embarked on an aggressive membership drive. Let me reiterate that APC is a party built on the principles of democracy and human development; the party provides equal opportunity for every party member and any Nigerian that is willing to join the party.” “To the state and local party executives being inaugurated today, I charge you to work in line with the party’s constitution and also ensure you carry all party members along without discrimination or nepotism. You are also expected to work hard to settle all disputes and differences in the party living no aggrieved party member behind.” “I am assuring our party leaders, aspirants and their supporters that the era of impunity and imposition of candidates is over. Our administration shall create a level-playing field for members jostling for one position or the other in the 2023 elections. We’re returning the party to the members; they will determine the faiths of all aspirants. No leader or group will be allowed to impose candidates on the party.” Omodewu directed local chairmen to inaugurate other local and ward executives immediately with the exception of Ibadan Southwest LGA, Ibadan Northeast LGA, Ibadan Northwest LGA, Oyo West LGA and Iseyin LGA. According to him, the harmonisation and reconciliation process was in progress in the aforementioned council areas. The Oyo State Government and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have come to a resolution following a misunderstanding that led to the closure of the company's offices on Wednesday. This was contained in a statement issued jointly by Temilolu Ashamu, the state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources and John Ayodele, the Chief Operating Officer, IBEDC. Recall that on Wednesday, the company had kicked against the closure of its offices describing it as retaliatory alleging that the action was borne out of the government's huge indebtedness to the company. The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola, has ordered elevated Baales and Mogajis in Ibadan land to return to their original positions before the setting up of the Justice Akintunde Boade Commission of inquiry. Delivering judgement in a case instituted by 34 coronet-wearing Baales and Mogajis, who were elevated alongside some High Chiefs by the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2017 to contest the validity of the consent judgment entered by parties on Thursday, Justice Abimbola issued an order of perpetual injunction, restraining them from the status of elevation or wearing crowns or coronets. Justice Abimbola, in his judgement, said he finds no merit in their application before the court, dismissed it in its entirety and answered all their questions in the negative. He further held that all government’s action must be in compliance with the law of the land. The claimants in the suit filed against the state governor and four others, had argued that the consent judgement which nullified the review that elevated them was not valid as they were not part of those who made the agreements that formed the consent judgment. We Disconnected Oyo State Secretariat For Owing N450 million, Now Seals Off Our Company - IBEDC The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC in a statement signed by the Chief Operating Officer, Engr. John Ayodele, said the Oyo State Government is owing IBEDC a whopping consumption outstanding of N450 million for three years. He explained that the company as part of efforts to get the outstanding paid initiated several engagements through correspondences and physical meetings, but all these efforts yielded no result . It read: “No business in this country can run successfully with such a huge outstanding, the power we distribute to customers must be accounted for and paid for, we have no choice but to disconnect the Oyo State Secretariat, so it is worrisome to see that the government has sealed off our offices with this underhand and arm twisting tactics, instead of paying the debt owed. “This was not done in good faith and it would have damaging effect on the business and service delivery to our customers.” The company implored Governor Seyi Makinde to look into the matter in the interest of all concerned as this would further worsen the power challenges and pressure on residents and commercial activities within the state.
