A group in All Progressives Congress, APC, Oyo State Chapter, Oyo APC Non-Alligned Movement, has urged members of the party in Ibadanland not to attend a meeting purportedly convened by a group of disgruntled elements, billed to hold on Thursday, 21st January, 2021 at an event centre in Ibadan. The group, in a statement signed by Alhaji (Hon) Tajudeen Balogun, former Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to late Abiola Ajimobi at the end of its emergency meeting held yesterday in Ibadan, pointed out that it was taken aback by the said meeting, “being organised by people of questionable character, who has no regard for layers of authority, as enshrined and well spelt out in the constitution of our great party”. According to the group, “the only authorised body that can call a meeting of that magnitude is the Zonal Executive Committee of the party, which is presently recognised as APC Zonal Interim Executive Committee, in conjunction with members of the 10-member Oyo APC Elders’ Advisory Committee that fall within the zone.” It is extremely surprising that the Interim Secretary of the party in Oyo State, Mr Mojeed Olaoya, has mischievously hijacked the structure of the party by unilaterally sending his cohorts to move around extorting money from some unsuspecting aspirants to organise the purported illegal meeting.” “Among those invited are people, who had left and are yet to formally return to the party and those who have vowed not to join our great party despite having the opportunity lurking around, with the forthcoming membership revalidation and registration exercise billed to take off on 25th January, 2021.” “We would, therefore, like to know why this self acclaimed organising committee is putting the cart before the horse by hurriedly putting together a meeting that could have been so good and apt, if duly held after party congresses.” Oyo APC Non-Alligned Movement thereby appealed to party members to await further directives from Governor Buni led National Interim Committee and effectively mobilise good people of Oyo State to join the progressive train during the forthcoming APC registration exercise. The group further reminded the organisers of the illegal meeting that politics is local and, therefore, should go back to their respective wards and local governments to get all aggrieved members reconciled for the growth and development of Oyo APC rather than going all around begging for money, as their present effort is exclusively self-serving. More so, they are making this effort, not to advance the interest of the party but to fill their pockets and grease the inordinate ambitions of their sponsors, who are eyeing one position or the other in the next general elections in 2023. The group further hinted that the action of these impostors and political jobbers connotes that Oyo APC has become so pauperised to the extent that a meeting that could have been seamlessly organised by the zone concerned is now being used to exploit eminent party members within the zone. So unfortunate! “While congratulating all our members for witnessing the year 2021 in sound health, we want to remind the organisers of the illegal Ibadanland APC Zonal Meeting of the danger of the prevalent COVID-19 that lies ahead, should they remain obstinate by continuing with plans to host the meeting, as scheduled. “A stitch in time, they say, saves nine. APC faithful in Ibadanland must shine their eyes and know the kind of meeting they should attend,” concluded the statement. https://westerndailynews.com/group-warns-oyo-apc-members-to-shun-illegal-political-gatherings/

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has commenced full enforcement of the wildly publicized operation one-passenger which specifically aims to reduce to barest minimum, incessant road crashes resulting from overloading of vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles in the State. Addressing journalists earlier today at the administrative headquarters of the Authority, the Executive Chairman, Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi announced commencement of the full implementation of the one-passenger policy which he explained was not to inconvenience the commercial transport workers but to further ensure safety on the roads, reduce accidents and return sanity to the transportation sector of the Pace Setter State. “As a result of the huge number of accidents we have painstakingly recorded since the commencement of this administration, this policy has become inevitable. Hundreds of innocent school pupils who represents the future of our dear State has lost their precious lives with several others left with various degrees of life-threatening injuries. As a State under the leadership of the people-loving Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, we definitely cannot continue to do things the same way and expects a different result. We must put an end to this madness regardless of whose ox is gored. We are aware that an insignificant faction of certain individuals who are feeding fat on the pecuniary gains attributable to dangerous overloading of commercial vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles are organizing some protests here and there at the detriment of the people of the State. It is indeed their fundamental and unalienable right but we must be guided at all times. As an Authority, we have embarked on a massive awareness and public advocacy programs on the streets, radio stations and television stations across the State. At some point in year 2019, we consulted the Paramount ruler of Ibadan land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji Aje Oguguniso 1, The Olubadan of Ibadanland and other Monarchs across the State on this issue. It was unanimously opined that we sensitize all relevant stakeholders particularly the riders and drivers. We have done that for over 100days and while many are complying, some remains adamant and continue to wreck havoc on the innocent passengers, wasting lives and causing tremendous traffic jams culminating to loss of productive work-hours and hence stands athwart the path to actualizing the accelerated development plan of the Engr. Seyi Makinde’s administration. This must stop”, Dr. Fagbemi submitted. He further implored all the law abiding commercial drivers and riders to go about their lawful businesses without fear of arrest as only those defaulting would be arrested and their impounded vehicles charged to the Authority’s Mobile Magistrate Court for adjudication according to the existing laws guiding road traffic and transportation in the State. The current face-off between the National Association of Nigerian Student, Oyo State chapter and Management of the University of Ibadan has resulted to another dimension on Tuesday as the student’s body threw caution to the wind by writing a petition to the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the University of Ibadan Management of financial misappropriation, and extortion of innocent students. In the copy of the letter, signed by Oyo NANS Chairman Asubiojo Olujuwon M, which was acknowledged with signature by Adelani unbehalf of Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan, the apex student’s body implored the anti crime agency to in a matter of urgency investigate and prosecute all hands who are behinds the perceived financial mismanagement and corruption. Highlighing areas where the university management is using to perpetrates the unholy acts, Oyo NANS stated, continuous collection fee for the long suspended Students Union, inability to account for unissued students ID cards fee and many more. Body of the petition letter to EFCC reads: The Director, Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan. Dear Sir, PETITION AGAINST FINANCIAL MISAPPROPRIATION, MISMANAGEMENT AND EXTORTION IN THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN: A CALL FOR INVESTIGATION & PROSECUTION With respect, we write to bring to your attention, for your relevant investigation and subsequent prosecution, instances of perceived financial mismanagement and corruption being perpetrated by the management of the University of Ibadan. Sir, the said instances, notable among which is the continued collection of a compulsory students’ union levy of N200 for two consecutive sessions after the students’ union was summarily suspended by this same administration. One can only wonder where such sums now accumulating into millions of Naira has ended up, as the fee is being charged both from postgraduate and undergraduates students alike. In addition, also of paramount interest is the I.D card issue in the school, which was only resolved recently. An incident that saw students not issued ID cards for two full sessions and when the issuance was eventually done, an entire session was fraudulently by passed as students only received ID cards for the last session, and not the one before. Also, several students graduated within this period without receiving these I.D cards, and as the time of this petition, we have no knowledge of any refund system to address this. Equally worthy of your due reference and attention is the very suspicious technology fee, which was levied on students for the 2019/2020 session for the first time. The said fee is being charged at the sum of N6,500 naira per student and yet key members of the university management have declined that such is meant for the provision of internet facilities. It is instead claimed that such fee is only meant for “Portal access”. Please note that the same “Portal access” was previously charged at just N2,500. We wonder what new technology is being developed to warrant an increment of over 200%. Furthermore, despite the fact that students are still being charged every session for the issuance of the students information handbook, as attached school receipt indicates, no issuance of such, either by hand, post or any known means has been done in the last five sessions. This is surely a blatant case of extortion and should be duly addressed. In our capacity as the voice of Nigerian students in Oyo state, we are appalled and aggrieved that such referenced atrocities of corruption are being nonchalantly displayed in the premier university, and we trust that you will not just look into this petition, but investigate properly and act appropriately in the interest of justice and fairness. We are grateful. Chairman Asubiojo Olujuwon M. Cc: Media Outlets It will be recalled on July 4th 2019 that Oyo NANS issued a 48 hours ultimatum to University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka and University of Ibadan management l, advised to meet up with the student’s body demands. The demands includes : to reverse the ban on the commercial use of bikes, reinstatement of the Students’ Union, reinstatement of Ojo Aderemi, others and reversal of various unjustifiable payments levied on University of Ibadan students. The inability of the University management to meet up the NANS demands seems resulted by the NANS to made it a straw that shows the way a wind blows. https://westerndailynews.com/oyo-nans-writes-efcc-to-investigate-students-extortion-and-mismanagement-by-u-i-magt/

……… Calls for Investigation of Sacked LG Bosses Activities from May, 2018 ……… Approved Appointment of 10 additional SAs for governor Makinde The Oyo State lawmakers on Tuesday morning threw weight in support of dissolution of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission ( OYSIEC ) as pronounced by governor Seyi Makinde. Supporting the motion, Rt.Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi lamented the illegalities accepted as legal on the activities surrounding Oyo state May 12, 2018 local government elections conducted by ex-governor Abiola Ajimobi. Hon Fadeyi supporting the state executive on the dissolution, said, ex governor Ajimobi defied court order to stage his kangaroo election that ushered in the sacked local government chairmen. In his contribution, hon. Adeola Bamidele from Iseyin/Itesiwaju state constitutiency not only supported the motion, but implored the HOUSE to call for a detailed investigation to the activities of the sacked local government bosses in the last 18 months. Hon. Adeola however advised the state government to stop the recognition of the 35 LCDAs chairmen. He educated the state government on existing protocol that guided the operations of the LCDAs, warned not to seek an election for the created LCDAs but appoint local administrators as stipulated in the constitution. Defending the conduct of the elections by the last administration, the minority leader of the house, hon Ashimiyu Alarape from Atiba state constituency, cautioned the seating lawmakers not to blame the last administration for approving elections into the LCDAs, saying that the same HOUSE approved the creation of additional local governments in 2002 during the administration of late Lam Adesina, before it was later changed and approved as LCDAs by last administration. The Oyo born lawmaker further impelled the HOUSE not to ridiculed the past Motions and Bills adopted by past lawmakers in the state. After much deliberation on the motion raised by Hon Onaolapo Sanjo Adedoyin from Ogbomoso South, more than 2/3 of the House agreed with the decision of the governor to dissolve the state’s electoral umpire, the Speaker, Rt Hon. Debo Ogundoyin pronounced that, last administration connived with OYSIEC to defied the constitution, as against Section 4a, subsection 32 of the Nigerian Constitution that recognises only 774 local governments. Also, the House resolved that the dissolution of OYSIEC by the state government was based on the interest of the public. Furthermore, the HOUSE urged the executive to as a matter of urgency constitute a new electoral body that will organise fresh local government elections, in conformity with the Constitution of the country. In another development, the HOUSE approved the request for appointment of additional 10 Special Assistants to governor Seyi Makinde. The letter of request was read by the speaker, during the plenary session. https://westerndailynews.com/oyo-lawamkers-back-makinde-for-oysiec-dissolution/ |
