In 1980 the key reasons for economic growth were as follows:

1. We were a net exporter of refined petroleum products. Today we import all our refined petroleum products.

2. We rode in locally assembled cars, buses and trucks. Peugeot cars in Kaduna and Volkswagen cars in Lagos.

3. Leyland produced trucks/buses in Ibadan and ANAMCO in Enugu also produced buses and trucks.

4. Steyr in Bauchi produced our Agricultural tractors. And it was not just Assembly, we were producing many of the components:

5. Vono products in Lagos produced the vehicle seats.

6. Exide in Ibadan produced the batteries, not just for Nigeria but for the entire West Africa.

7. IsoGlass and TSG in Ibadan produced the windshields.

8. Ferrodo in Ibadan produced the brake pads and discs

9. Dunlop produced Tyres in Lagos and Mitchelin Tyres were produced in Port Harcourt. And I mean tyres produced from rubber plantations located in Ogun, Bendel and Rivers State.

10. We were listening to Radio and watching television sets assembled in Ibadan by Sanyo.

11. We were using refrigerators, freezers and Airconditioners produced by Thermocool and Debo.

12. We were putting on clothes produced from the UNTL Textile Mills in Kaduna and Chellarams in Lagos. They were Not from imported cotton but from cotton grown in Nigeria.

14. Our toilets were fitted with WC produced in Kano and Abeokuta.

15 We were cooking with LPG gas stored inside gas cylinders produced at the NGC factory in Ibadan.

16. Our electricity was flowing through cables produced by the Nigerian Wire and Cable, Ibadan; NOCACO in Kaduna and Kablemetal in Lagos and Port Harcourt.

17. We had Bata and Lennards Stores producing the shoes we were putting on. The shoes were not from imported leather but from locally tanned leather in Kaduna.

Today, we import almost everything. Isn't that alarming?

There lies the source of the terrible exchange rate we are experiencing today and everyone reading this has a critical role to play in reversing this very UGLY trend.

We have been talking about these problems and more for ages.

It is not enough for us to complain about the exchange rate or point out what others are not doing or are failing to do. The key questions are:

1. What are we producing now?
2. What role are our so- called Leaders/ Politicians of today playing?

We are forever shying away from responsibility whereas it is a stack reality and if we don't deal with it, it won't go away. In fact it will get worse.

To our dear Politician, if you don't have the capacity to RESET Nigeria to what it was at least back in 1980 then please stay in your house and don't waste our time.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!!

Not everything is Personal and intentional

Not everyone hates you.

People will forget about you, not wish you a happy birthday, promise you and fail you, not join your group, doesn't mean they don't like you, sometimes People are just caught up with their own lives, struggles, and human weaknesses/limitations.

The first three have failed and are expecting the teacher to be a "four man" by doing the work of everybody.

The parents of today are afraid to correct their own children, so the child grows up believing he can do what he likes.

You hear parent telling you as a teacher,

"he didn't read anything throughout the holiday, please help me ensure he reads in school".

My response to such parents is "if you, his parent cannot make him read, how will I, an ordinary teacher make him read?

As small as I am, while growing up, you get beaten by any elder that caught you misbehaving.

You hear, "I will beat you, your parent will thank me", and that's what will happen, your parent will actually thank them, not again, today's parents will rather fight them.

So, only the unavailable indisciplined parent is left to discipline the child. Come to my school on visiting day, come and see what some parents wear to visit their children in school.

The society also exposed the child to what negatively affect his psyche, he has been exposed to BBnaija and co, where he watched people having sex on camera being appluaded and made mentor.

Porn site also has free entry, no one cares if you are 10 or 30, in as much as you have a phone and data, you have access.

Guess what, parents provide phone and data to their kids and leave them unattended to in "their room". For good sake, why will the room of an 11 ye old child has a door? What privacy is the child entitled to?

When the child listen and watch music videos, Portable is the musician, visibly drunk and drugged.

If it is not Portable, it is Naira Marley, smoking India helm on set. Have you listened to their lyrics? That's what today's child also listen to.

From what else will the child learn if not from what the child sees and hear?

Now, the teacher is expected to teach the child how to say sorry, when he is wrong.

The teacher is expected to teach the child how to be responsible for his actions.

The same teacher is also expected to teach the child how to do simple home chores.

The same teacher is expected to teach the child how to obey simple instruction,

That probably before the Financial Accounting the school employs him to teach.

One can't but wonder what the parent has actually taught the child.

My Submission

The children are innocent and should be treated as such, questions that need to be asked are:

Parent, how well did you train your child?

Society, how good is the content you exposed the child to?

Government, what program did you have for that child, the same child that is supposed to be the leader of tomorrow?

Teacher, are you really a teacher and not a cheater?

Until, the above questions are sincerely answered and all stakeholders are made to discharge their duties appropriately, what we have seen will be mere child's play to what we will see soon.

Sunday Oliseh, former coach of the Super Eagles has suggested the conviction of criminals as one of the solutions to building Nigerian football.

Oliseh in his column, ‘Life is A Sport’ said if Nigerians – the FA, individuals and the government can secure the conviction of those who destroy Nigerian football, it will grow as others will desist from ruining it.

“Its (Nigerian football) state is so sad, that some of our citizens, maybe understandably, ignore our local league’s existence to the benefit of the English premier league or other worldwide football competitions.

“This has consequently, crippled the means of livelihood of thousands of home-based Nigerian professional footballers and the related commercial football economy linked to It.

“The catalyst multiplier effect of this decay runs in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Unfortunately, many are unaware of the consequences or are just plain tired of worrying and feel helpless!,”

When suggesting solutions to the problem, the former Fortuna Sittard coach wrote that fixing the league is of utmost necessity.

”Fix The Local League. How: for starters, introduce regulations and penalties that go as far as, but are not limited to criminal convictions. Etc…. for violations

1. Realize That “Great Ideas” Aren’t Everything

The best way to achieve long-term success is to look for ways to continually improve. You don’t have to get everything perfect at first. Instead, keep iterating and failing fast so you can succeed sooner.

Work For A Cause, Not Just Applause


Facebook has changed the way we interact with each other, which was Zuckerberg’s goal from the start. “My goal was never to just create a company,”

Zuckerberg has said.

“Ultimately what not being just a company means to me, is…building something that actually makes a really big change in the world.”

When you aim for social impact, you’re far more likely to reach a wide audience. Embrace a larger vision for your company. Changing the way people do things will be more memorable than a “me-too” product.

Don’t Tie Yourself To Your Business Plan

No business plan has ever been followed step-by-step. As Zuckerberg said: “You have to be weary of working at a company and getting locked in.” In other words, you need to be flexible with your entrepreneurial pursuits.

Don’t get so locked in to one idea that you miss out on better opportunities. Facebook began as a hobby. If it hadn’t worked out, Zuckerberg would have been able to easily move on to something else.

Everybody is hung up on domestic abuse by men against women.

Nobody spares a moment to find solutions to the equally devastating verbal abuse men suffer at the hands of their wives.
It is worse because men can't discuss what their wives do to them for fear of scorn and derision.

Many men are suffering in silence

Unfortunately, Nigerian society has little or no support systems for this kind of situation. Little or no counseling services. It's been mostly left to the Church or Mosque to deal with.

What happens when the man doesn't go to Church or Mosque?.
What happens when the woman doesn't believe in spiritual intervention?.

These women are raising daughters. Their daughters are hearing and seeing how they speak to and treat their husbands.

What kind of wives will they grow up to become?.
Those that treat their husbands as kings or those that believe husbands are nothing but verbal punching bags?.

We have all agreed and rightfully so that a man has no business hitting his wife. So how then do you stop a wife from raining verbal missiles at the husband?.

Leave the house?

Okay. But you will return and it will continue.

What next?.
Leave again?.
For how long?

Recently, I visited a senior friend, an important man in the society, and while we were downstairs discussing, the voice of his wife could be heard upstairs. She was spewing unimaginable bile against the man.

She called him all sorts of unprintable names.

Impotent
Wretched fool
Miserable man that was nothing when she married him etc.

This is a well-respected man. A father of 4 children. She tore at his very core and mocked everything society respected him for. She said he would soon crash and she will be there to laugh at him.

I was so uncomfortable as I beheld the man. He was shrunken before me. He was deflated. He tried to game fully continue the gist to distract me but it was not working. The woman's vitriol was a ceaseless torrent. An uncomfortable silence ensued. I excused myself and left his house.

I was really sad.

Do you want to know the truth?

This is what most men go through in their houses. The labor and toil and build respect but when they return home, the one who ought to speak to the king in them tears them to shreds and tries to deflate their self-esteem.

When they are outside, they try to act cheerful and happy but back home, they are shriveled because the person they live with makes it a point of duty to verbally assault them.

A sad story comes to mind.

There was recently a Nigerian Ambassador who was recalled because his wife released a story to the press that he beat her. She also released pictures showing fresh injuries on her body ostensibly inflicted by the man.

In a dramatic twist, their children came out to debunk the stories and said their mother faked the injuries to embarrass their dad.

A particular sentence by the 1st son saddened me.

He said it was as if their mum woke up every morning with one mission in life:

"How to make their dad miserable."

They said they were witnesses to how their mum constantly harassed and abused their dad and wanted the whole world to know that their dad was not who their mum was painting him to be.

Yes, opinion shifted on the scandal but the damage had been done. The Ambassador was recalled and nobody heard from him again.

A family is currently at odds with the widow of their son and brother. The wife was constantly verbally assaulting him. Nobody wanted to visit them because each time they were around, it was always quarrels and the wife would call him unprintable names. Even in their presence.

When they try to interfere, she will give them their own. The man died recently of a heart attack caused by high blood pressure. He was in his late 40s. The family insists his wife sent him to his early grave with her verbal torments.

Our bars are filled with men who are afraid to go home to their wives for fear of what verbal torment they will go through. Men are finding every excuse to travel because they will rather be anywhere than in their own homes.

Everybody is focusing on men as culprits in domestic abuse.
Who is talking to the women?.```

Many parents think that if they are friends with their child that parenting will be easier—then their child will do what they want because they are friends. Most experts agree that while parents can and should be friendly toward their kids as well as fun to hang out with, at the end of the day they still need to accept the role of parent and not a friend.

Research shows that the lack of structure can actually weaken the parent-child relationship as well as make kids feel more controlled rather than less so. No parent should feel like a dictator. After all, you love and enjoy your kids and want to spend time with them.

The Risks of Not Being Friendly With Your Child/Children

A child lost money on his way to purchase what his mother sent him. He climbed the bridge to jump into the river before good Samaritans, caught him...!*

His fear was his mother... *Let him even die rather than fall into his mother's hand!* {After all, it is a fearful thing *to fall into the hand of mummy almighty!}*

A Certain Jambites drank sniper and committed suicide; (ask me why). They feared that they were warned never to come back *if they didn't pass their JAMB this time around.* Then they killed themselves rather than come back to their 'heavily harmed' parents!

A Lagos tout drank coke and refused to pay the little boy* that was left to cater for the shop. While the mother was away. He went after the tout to pay up...

The tout warned him* to lay off, that he has no money today. *The little boy followed the tout everywhere, with tears, begging him to give him his money...* People begged the boy to go back to the shop. He refused, *that his mother would kill him if he didn't recover that money!*

When the tout got more irritated, he turned and *sliced open the boy's Tommy with a sharp whatever...* and jumped into the crowd. *The boy's intestines poured out* and he dropped breathing!

People tried to pack back his intestines into his stomach but they got infected! The mother surfaced to see a *body* covered with sheets! The question is who killed the boy? The answer is, the mother!

A 12 yrs old girl ran away from home* because her maternal uncle was raping her. Why did she run? She said that if she complained to her mother* who was well known in the church, *she would kill her!*

Our children are supposed to confide in us* not to fear us

Daddy, mummy, it's negative when you pride yourself that your children are afraid of you!* You will be part of the dividend when they are not yours to have any longer. *Discipline your children, right? But* don't make them afraid of you so that they can tell you things when they are perturbed.

I do leave my phone number written on the class writing boards *after teaching sex education;* as I get home, I receive so many calls from babies, children, grown-ups...who tell me things they cannot tell their parents!

That is all shades of wrong!

Are you aware that *a 13-year-old JSS 3 student* in one of the schools confided in a counselor during a sex education session, that *she had done abortions twice?* *She was still living with her parents but they knew nothing* about what was happening under their noses because she mustn't disclose it to them!

Make that your neighbor's child confide in you ever if he/she can't confide in their parents. Be a help to the helpless *, especially your own children.*

As a parent, one of our jobs is to teach our children how to behave. It's a job that takes time and patience. But, it will help to learn effective and healthy discipline strategies. The guides will promote positive development in children and positive parent-child relationships.

Don’t make your daughter's assistant parents to their brothers

If he scatters the room, tell him to arrange it. If he rough handles his clothes, he should wash them. Never make them feel that their sister is there to SERVE them.

Your boys should be fully involved in domestic chores

There should be a timetable — the day he sweeps cleans the house, and also cooks. You should let your sons know that everyone that loves eating should know how to cook! Let them know it’s a basic survival skill!!!!

Do not ask your girls to respect their brothers because they are boys. I see this a lot in homes

The parents will tell the girls: “why would you talk to him like that? He’s a man..”. No! Let your boys know that if they want respect from their girls, they must earn it!

Do not stop your boys from expressing vulnerability

Don’t tell them to man up. Don’t shame them for crying. Let them express their full humanness. Boys are humans. Boys have emotions. Boys should not suppress emotions.

When your girl child makes a mistake, do not say things like: “Is this how you’ll take care of your husband?”. Her life is more than having a man, teach her that things should be done right not because of having and ‘keeping’ a man!

Don’t compare your kids based on gender. Some parents do this

When their girl child is doing better than their boys, they say things like: “Are you not ashamed that your sister is doing better than you?! And you’re a boy...”. You‘re teaching him that excellence isn’t for women.

Make your boys feel accountable

Some parents will scold their girls over something they’ll ignore the boys when they do it. Don’t make your boys feel that their standards are lower, & women have higher moral standards! You’re breeding spoilt boys who become terrible partners.

Parents, you need to realize that more than you’re grooming your children, you’re almost grooming someone’s friend, wife, husband, and we have many imbalanced marriages because boys were groomed to feel so entitled, and not accountable.

We have many women suffering in marriages because they end up with grown men who can’t do anything that offer the barest minimum and expect maximum results. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the new dates for the 2023 general elections in Nigeria earlier this year on February 18, 2023, for the presidential election. The Presidential and National Assembly elections have been slated for February 25, 2023, while governorship and state assembly elections will now be held on March 11, 2023.

It was gathered that the inability of the Presidential aspirants for the 2023 general election to properly deduce the direction of the president delayed the declaration of some of the aspirants including Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Rotimi Amaechi.

The presidential aspirants of the ruling party for the 2023 general election had sought the blessings of the president before declaring for the race. The lack of clarity on the president’s direction is fuelling agitation among the aspirants and their supporters as the deadline for the conduct of the political parties’ primaries approaches.

Impeccable sources around the presidency said President Buhari did not object to the plans by all the aspirants to vie for the presidency during the 2023 general election but he is keeping close to his chest his preference among the contenders.

President Buhari had on January 5, this year during an exclusive interview with Channels TV, said he does not care who succeeds him during the 2023 general election in the country.

One of the sources said the president’s action was causing ripples among the aspirants, their supporters, and critical stakeholders of the ruling party.

A founding member of the APC, said, unlike the party positions, the presidential candidate of the party cannot be singlehandedly handpicked by the president.

“Mr. President is being mindful of this fact, hence is being careful. In the build-up to the 2015 general elections, even when key stakeholders knew that the party ticket was for him (Buhari), we still conducted primaries in Lagos, where he defeated Atiku, Kwankwaso, Bukola (Saraki), Okorocha, and others,” the source said.

Sources said despite his open declaration that President Buhari does not care who succeeds him, the president seems to be in a tight corner. One of them said those who supported him when he needed it most and their supporters think this is the payback time.

While those with Tinubu are saying the president owed them given the role played by the former Lagos governor in the victories of Buhari in 2015 and 2019, those in the camp of the vice president believed that his emergence as the running mate did the magic in the 2015 polls.

On their part, those in the camp of Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State are saying that their candidate should be considered given the role he played as the director-general of the Buhari’s campaign organization.
