Religion / WHAT IF?.... The Big Philo-religious Question! by Akorede612(m): 9:08am On Aug 23, 2015
WHAT IF?

...Is there no shred of possibility that there is no eternal life?

That all of life, as it were, is just a series of becoming and endings.

That there is no such thing as eternal bliss...and Heaven and Hell are mere figment of our imaginations or pronouncly... Religious allegories.

Or as somone's signature on Nairaland implies,

"Every thing that you've been taught is a Lie. Life itself is an illusion. From cradle, our destiny has been to die and vanish into oblivion. Pray, fast, argue; the fact cant be changed, we have all been decieved."
(paraphrased)

What if ......These were true?

Would we be disappointed with ourselves?... For aven fall prey to such obvious deception!.

Would we blame God... For our ignorance or intellectual irresponsiblity?

Or would we Embrace the chaste life we had lived..in hope of Heaven.

Would we still beat our chest that even if dere were no REWARDS... We wouldnt av wished to Liv our lifes... Differently.

That... Being good... Righteous.. Moral... Honest...Truthful.. Kind... Generous.. Faithful... Helpful. ..Loving..and such as characterized the Christian living are Virtues..dat WE OUGHT TO LEAD... Wether or not... We would av a reward for them.

the truth is " Some investors just don't flow well
with business." Location also plays a Paramount role in any business. what may sell well in kano may not sell very well in Bayelsa. So the fact is to purchase some products with such amount and sell at a fair price for three months after your market research ONLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED TO DO SO. I got to a level of understanding that the only way one can enjoy NTB is by investing big even if it means Browning Only if you have a good reputation "social capital" and maybe a good asset for collateral.
Now my boss inze said HOW? smiley

MATHS.
Example

91Days NTB.
100,000x10/100/4 = 2500 (No tax deduction made).
2500/3 Months, that means you made 833.3 every month (well its better than the interest in Nigeria bank account smiley )

Now let's say we have a high demand for shirt in Jos and we can buy from Aba Abia state at 200 per piece and sell at 1000 per piece (cost of logistics included in the price).

Shirt N200x4000 PCs =N80,000
maybe cost of logistics = N20,000 (which should be lesser than that price) making a total of N100,000.
If we sell a PCs for N1000x4000 PCs = N4000000-N100,000(Capital) = 3900000 (Profit).

Pls Note this is only for those who are interested in Selling or increasing their fund before investing to enable them increase their financial capacity so as to invest Large in NTB. ( When there is a will then there is a way).

NTB = BIG FUND = BIG PROFIT.

THIS IS ONLY A ROUGH CALCULATION.

PLS THE THREAD IS FOR NTB ALONE AND NOT SELLING. I TAKE A BOW smiley . THANKS

Investment / Emefiele: Nigeria's External Reserves Now $31.89 Billion by Akorede612(m): 3:37pm On Jul 09, 2015
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, wednesday revealed that the country’s external reserves had risen to $31.89 billion as at July 7, 2015.

Emefiele attributed this to strong efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to plug all leakages, as well as the vigilant demand management of the central bank. He said the development was very gratifying.
The CBN governor disclosed this in his opening remarks at the briefing of the Senate President and the Leadership of the Senate on the Nigerian economy in Abuja.

According to him, recent measures by the central bank would help reposition the economy for the next phase of growth and development.

Emefiele listed these measures to include among others, the further tightening of monetary policy; closure of the official foreign exchange window; review of operators’ Net Open Position (NOP); placement of 72-hour limit on FX utilisation; and ban on selected items from access to foreign exchange in either the interbank or BDC markets.

“These policies have led to a significant stabilisation in the exchange rate and an improvement in market sentiments. Having earlier traded at as high as N206/$1, the naira-dollar exchange rate has appreciated and remained around N197/$1 in the interbank market in the past five months.

“Going forward, the CBN would continue to be vigilant in the market to ensure that there is zero tolerance for speculators. Nigeria’s foreign reserves remain our common wealth and we must all strive to work together to protect it and prevent speculators and rent seekers from plundering it. We would continue to find ways to rebuild our external reserves and where possible, accelerate efforts aimed at improving aggregate supply potentials of the economy,” he added.

He noted that the global economy had experienced three major shocks in the last one year. These developments he listed to include: the significant and seemingly permanent fall in the price of crude oil, Nigeria’s main revenue earner; the end of the Quantitative Easing Programme of the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States; and the continued US-led sanctions on Russia for its alleged role in the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

“Reflecting the sharp fall in oil prices and speculative foreign exchange activities, external reserves declined from $37.3 billion in June 2014 to $29.1 billion as at the end of June 2015. Given our understanding that the fall in oil prices may not be transitory but permanent, and that some speculative activities were going on in the forex market, the CBN took a number of proactive countervailing actions,” he explained.

Continuing, the CBN boss said: “At the heart of the issues that currently confront our nation is the need for us to diversify the structure of our economy from being import dependent to being an economy that produces what she consumes. According to one of Africa’s foremost industrialist, our very own Alhaji Aliko Dangote, we must stop exporting jobs to other countries and importing poverty to our land by producing and consuming locally made goods.

“As we speak today, hundreds of thousands of locally produced paddy rice litter Nigeria’s rice belts unsold. Our rice farmers are today sinking deeper into poverty due to our preference for imported rice even though the local ones are now of about the same or even better quality. We therefore seize this opportunity to appeal to our rice importers to support local farmers by patronising our home grown rice.

“It is now time for us work together to resuscitate our moribund textile industries, begin to grow and consume our rice, and rejuvenate our abandoned palm plantations in the mid and south eastern parts of the country and a host of other industries that once helped in creating job opportunities for our people.”

He pointed out that the central bank had been at the forefront, acting as a catalyst to job creation and inclusive growth since 1978 through its various interventions in various/targeted sectors of the economy, pledging that the institution would remain committed to the course because it believes it is the right direction that will help in conserving the
reserves, achieve a stable exchange rate and create jobs.

Investment / Delayed Cabinet: Stock Market Investors Lose N238bn by Akorede612(m): 7:08am On Jun 19, 2015
The delay by President Muhammadu Buhari in appointing ministers and other key officials as well as the lack of clear information about his government’s policy direction have been major deterrents to investment in the nation’s capital market.

Capital market analysts, who spoke to our correspondent on the recent performance of the market stressed that investors, especially foreigners, were unlikely to make significant investment in the market, if any at all until, they had a clear picture of the policy direction of the government.

As of Thursday, three weeks after the inauguration of the President on May 29, the value of equities listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange had declined by N238bn or 2.04 per cent, while the NSE All-Share Index fell by 2.47 per cent or 849.87 basis points.

In 14 trading sessions post-inauguration, the stock market closed on a positive note on only five occasions and with marginal gains.

This, according to analysts, is due to the delay in the formation of the cabinet and lack of vital information about what the economy direction is going to look like, leaving investors uncertain about the what policies the government will implement.

The situation is different from what happened immediately after the presidential election.

In the first trading session after the declaration of Buhari as the winner of the election, the value of stocks listed on the NSE rose by a historical 8.4 per cent or N904bn.

Asked if the delay in forming the cabinet and announcing key appointments had affected the performance of the market, a financial analyst at WSTC Financial Services Limited, Mr. Olutola Oni, said it surely had.

He explained that the investment climate had been to a large extent dampened by the fact that the enthusiasm by which people looked forward to the coming of the new government was suppressed by what they had seen the government do since it was inaugurated.

Oni said, “When the elections were conducted peacefully and the transition was peaceful, people expected that the incoming government would consolidate on that, roll out the list of those that would form the new government and make one or two policy statements.

“But up till now, apart from the fact that the government moved the military command centre to Borno State, no other policy statement has been made, not even as regards the issue of the fuel crisis. Everything has been virtually the same; just like nothing happened on the political scene.”

According to him, it is normal for investors to want to see the team that the current administration plans to work with and get a feel of its ability to address the key issues of insecurity and corruption.

“The quality of people that are going to come on board will go a long way to determine what the outcome will be in the short to medium-term generally; it is going to determine whether the government is serious about tackling corruption or whether it is going to merely scratch it on the surface,” he said.

The Head, Research and Investment Advisory, Sterling Capital, Mr. Sewa Wusu, shared a similar view.

Wusu, who stressed that investors were currently on the sidelines, said they had expected the government to hit the ground running in terms of coming up with a clear-cut policy direction.

He explained that a clear policy direction was important because that would give investors confidence as they would know where the economy was heading.

He said, “You don’t make investment in a vacuum. You look at certain parameters; the political environment, the economic environment and some other factors.

“Most investors are on the sidelines now as far as investment is concerned; whether in equities or fixed income, because they are waiting for a policy direction from the government before they can make well-informed investment decisions.”

Wusu, who explained that the action of the investors was not because the economy was bad or that the valuation of the stocks was not attractive, said smart investors were, however, taking advantage of the low value of the stocks.

Foreign portfolio investors, who dominate the stock market, had pulled out up to N1tn in 2014, taking out a further N234.84bn between January and April 30 this year.

Analysts have said that for the stock market to recover, significant number of foreign portfolio investors have to return to the market. But that has not happened.

While domestic transactions in the stock market rose by 37 per cent in the first four months of this year, total equity transactions by foreign portfolio investors within the period declined by 11.25 per cent.

The Managing Director, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, told our correspondent recently that the policies of the government would determine the return of the foreign investors and an upturn in investment in the capital market.

Chukwu said, “The economic policies of the new government will make the capital market attractive or unattractive for investors, both local and international investors.

“If the government comes up with policies that make Nigerian instruments very attractive and then stabilises the exchange rate or the exchange rate is at a level where foreign investors believe it will not depreciate materially further, then you will see the return of foreign investors, which may up their share in the market.”

Food / Reasons You Should Avoid Eating Suya.. by Akorede612(m): 2:08pm On Jun 15, 2015
I will try as much as
possible to explain this post in very simple and clear
terms. This is to enable a layman read and
Understand the risks associated with the consumption of suya!

What is Suya?

If you are reading this, you probably know what
Suya is. But by way of definition, Suya is a spicy
skewered meat which is a popular food item in
various parts of Nigeria and is enjoyed as a
delicacy in many parts of West Africa. It is
traditionally prepared by the Hausa people of
northern Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, and some
parts of Sudan.

Health and Safety Issues Associated With Suya
Consumption

Forget the dirty environment and poor or zero
hygiene conditions in which Suya is made and
handled in many places in Nigeria, there are
other dangers that are inherent in the
consumption of Suya – those that many would
never know unless they are Food professionals or
have come across an article like this that
explains it.

1. Suya and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
(PAHs)

You know when they say Cigarette kills? It is
majorly due to the PAHs they contain. Many
Suya sellers make their Suya by burning all sort
of woods and charcoal to make their fire. Some
even throw in such things as plastics to make
their ember burn brighter in order to cook the
Suya meat. Many of these materials burning
under the meat contain these Polycyclic
Aromatic Hydrocarbons — and do you know what
these PAHs do in the body after enough
consumption or exposure?

1. Some PAHs are chemical carcinogens
(cancer-causing compounds) while seven
PAH compounds have also been classified
as probable human carcinogens.

2. Some PAH compounds are mutagens.
Mutagen is a physical or chemical agent
that changes the genetic material (DNA).

3. According to a finding, reported in an article
on health.usnews.com , high prenatal
exposure to PAH is associated with lower
IQ and childhood asthma.

2.Potential of contacting zoonotic diseases

A zoonotic disease is a disease that can be
passed between animals and humans. Since
Suya meats are generally undercooked and in
rare occasions carrying some blood on them,
there is a chance that one could contact
zoonotic diseases from Suya.
Take for example, during the Ebola Virus Disease
outbreak, we were warned to stay away from
Monkey and Bat meats. There was also a stern
warning to always cook our meats very well
before we eat them. Cooking meat very well
cannot really be said of Suya.

3.Beef Tapeworm ( Taenia saginata )

This is commonly known as the beef tapeworm
– a zoonotic tapeworm. Like it was mentioned
above, humans majorly get infected by
consuming undercooked beef. The infection is
may come without any noticeable symptoms but
heavy infection can also occur with attendant
symptoms. Heavy infection often results in
weight loss, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea,
headaches, nausea, constipation, chronic
indigestion, and loss of appetite. Heavy
infections may cause intestinal obstructions among humans — this can be alleviated by surgery.

Suya can be very delicious and make a good
delicacy if well cooked and appropriate types of
woods are used for smoking.
For example, it is advised to cook/heat the Suya
meat to a safe internal temperature around 80
degrees Celcius or more. Avoid adding plastics
or fuels such as kerosene to the fire to make it
burn better.

So for those of us addicted to Suya... Lets reduce it.
Religion / Mathematics For Success, By Pastor Enoch Adeboye by Akorede612(m): 6:56am On Jun 14, 2015
GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian
Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare
Adeboye, an astute mathematics teacher
recently established a link between the subject
and success in every human endeavour.
Speaking at a special prayer programme
organised for leaders and potential leaders in the
country with a theme: “Not by might” at the
RCCG national headquarters, Throne of Grace
Parish, Ebute-Meta, Lagos, Adeboye revealed two
linear equations to success, supporting each
equation with relevant bible passages, stressing
that he believed in using mathematical equations
whenever he needed to explain important issues
in a brief manner.

According to him, mathematics is the language
of life, noting “whenever I have to say something
that I believe is very deep and I have to say it in
a very brief manner, I turn back to mathematics
because it is the language of life and you can
say a lot within a short period if you use
mathematics.”

Adeboye’s first linear equation states that
“Power belongs to God”, in accordance with
Psalm 62:11, which states that all power either
on earth or in heaven belongs to the Almighty
God and equation number is “God respects the
humble”, which can be found in Psalm 138:6 of
the bible.

The man of God stated that a combination of the
two equations, automatically brings one face to
face with the secret to success, explaining that
God resist the proud, gives grace to the humble
and enthrone them in place of power.

Using biblical king Nebuchadnezzar as a case
study, Adeboye explained that it’s God who
controls every human affair and gives power to
whosoever He wishes; “God resists the proud
and promotes the humble. God has the power to
pick up a beggar from the dunghill and promote
him to sit with princes”. Enjoining political
leaders to always put God first in all their
activities and abide by God’s instructions,
because on their own they are limited but they
should rely solely on God who is unlimited in all
ramifications.

“It is not by your power that you become
anything, it is God who gives power and any
power that be is from the Almighty God.
Whatever you see happening, God is involved and
that is why He instructed us to obey those in
authority because God puts them there.
“Put your trust and limitations in the Almighty
God who is unlimited. Great men are limited by
sleep. No matter how strong you are, you will
sleep but we have Almighty God who neither
sleeps nor slumbers. No matter how powerful
you are, you are limited by death, incurable
disease but thank God who always heals our
infirmities,” he stated.

Reminding the congregation about his prophecy
years back that RCCG members would become
presidents, vice presidents and hold prominent
positions in the society, Pastor Adeboye said
with Holy Spirit any miracle can happen.
He added that the Spirit of God can make the
impossible possible and when a man of God
speaks, the Holy Spirit stamps it and makes it to
come to pass, saying; “It takes the Holy Spirit to
make the impossible possible. Several years ago,
when the Redeemed Christian Church of God was
still very small and I mean very small, I told them
what God said that presidents will come here to
worship but their amen was very weak.

“I moved further to say that God says more than
that. God said presidents will be members of the
church. They will be ushers but the members
then find it difficult to swallow that but mark my
words, whenever God speaks, the Holy Spirit
sanctioned it.

“Also in our London church which was fewer
than us here in Nigeria, I told them that royalties
will come to the church and worship; they
giggled and said amen. I went further that God
said nobody will be in government without our
permission and they laughed

Culture / Yoruba Philosophy: Is Eshu Odara The Biblical Satan? by Akorede612(m): 12:48pm On Jun 06, 2015
Èṣu Is Normally Postulated To Be Yoruba Name For
Satan But Does Yoruba Religion Actually Recognise
Satan? Is The Yoruba Èṣu Same As The Biblical
Satan and Quranic Sheitan?

Read and find out .... *Please Note: Èṣu Is Same As
Eshu In This Article*

“Samuel Ajayi Crowther was captured by Muslim
Fulani during the Fulani/Oyo wars and he was sold
with his mother and toddler brother to Portuguese
slave buyers. However, the ship was intercepted
by British Royal Navy and the slaves were released
by taking them to Sierra Leone. This was where
the Anglican Church Missionary Society took over
the educating of young Ajayi.

One of his foremost achievements, apart from
taking Christianity to the Niger Delta parts of
modern Nigeria, Ajayi Crowther translated the
English Bible into Yoruba. This can thus be said to
be the first medium through which the Christian
Satan/Devil/Lucifer was thus interpreted as the
Yoruba Eshu.

Ajayi Crowther was also the one who compiled in
1843 the English-Yoruba Dictionary upon which so
many others have been patterned till today. The
word ‘Bara’ in the dictionary reads out the
meaning thus: “god of mischief, the devil, Ifa.”
Here it is plain that the devil and Ifa are the
same to Ajayi.

Bara is a word used in qualifying Eshu in some of
Eshu’s oriki poems:
“Bara ti o logun ika/ To so ile
ana re di ahoro (Bara who does not have evil
medicine but turns his in-laws home into
desolation).

Bara l’abelekun sunkun ki eru o ba
elekun/ Bi elekun ba n sokun, Laaroye a ma sun
eje (Bara is the one who weeps with those
weeping and they will be frightened by the time
they see Eshu/Laaroye/Bara weeping blood).

Bara
ni abonimi su mi ki eru ba onimi/ Bonimi ba n su
imi/ Laaroye a ma su ifun (The one defecating will
be full of fright by the time he sees Eshu
defecating his intestines). That is Eshu for you, a
god that overdoes things in a frightening way… a
prankster.

On the other side though, Eshu is the link between
man and heaven – to the Yoruba. He is a strong
god and one who has to be pacified so that he
takes his tricks elsewhere,
He is a god with functions in heaven. That is why another
oriki says of him as “O san sokoto penpe/ Onibode
Olorun.” (One who wears short pants and guards
the way between man and the Heavens)

Let us objectively look into the function of Eshu
who is a fierce god, like Thor or Sango but not
evil like Hades. Eshu has to be constantly
sacrificed to in Yoruba belief because he is the
one between us and the other gods. Eshu has the
power to decree any god not to harm a mortal and
can also look away if the offending mortal refuses
to perform sacrifice to ward of evil. Eshu does
not cast evil, he is merely performing his duties
to ensure that no man is unjustly attacked by evil.

There are eight forms of evil in Ifa philosophy,
these are Death, Pestilence, Loss, Paralysis,
Trouble, Curse, Bondage and Iniquity. All these
eight are under the supervision of Eshu according
to God (Olodumare) who placed Eshu in that role
to monitor their activities. These eight are always
trying to hinder the progress of man and this is
why any sacrifice or rites performed on earth to
ward evil must have Eshu’s Fifth share since he
alone has authority to tell the Eight evil to desist
from harming a particular person.

The Christian Satan is a rebel; the Yoruba Eshu
would never think of derailing from his functions.
It is only the witches and sorcerers that Eshu has
no power over and this is where Ifa too says that
it is only one’s Ori (head/soul) that can protect
one against Dark/Evil Magic cast by witches. Eshu
has nothing to do with cursing man or turning man
against God. He serves as mediator between us and
the heavens. There is no record in Ifa that Eshu
rebels against Olodumare, besides, is it not
demeaning the power of God that the omniscient
created something It had not foreseen would rebel
and cause trouble for mankind in such huge scale?
Ajayi Crowther could have translated the Bible
Satan as satani. He was a boy of 12 when he was
stolen from Osogun, his village in Iseyin, Oyo, and
had very little knowledge, if any, of Eshu and his
complicated functions. If Eshu were the Devil, Ifa
would totally have been upturned into evil and
Yoruba would not be one of the most enlightened
race in Africa today. We would have been
submerged in the Devil’s evil.

Eshu is not evil. But today, millions of Yoruba have
seen Eshu as the Christian devil with the influence
of the translation and the Yoruba Bible. The
Yoruba dictionary clearly shows that elitism crept
into the translating pen of the translators as a
result of their little knowledge of Yoruba spiritual
beliefs, which Christianity taught them is the
Devil’s belief. Let us remove prejudice and be
objective… Eshu shields man from evil and can
also expose man to evil, but he is not evil. Neither
is he contesting power with God.

while most Christians describe God as a white man with. a white beard and a golden crown… The Yoruba God
(Olodumare or Olorun) has no form. It has never
been described… Olodumare is an existence in the
transcendence. Something no deity can contest
power with. Evil is also formless, that is why the
Eight Evil were placed under the authority of Eshu
to protect man, but Witches can use their craft
to tap into the evil energy but unfortunately they
are not subjected to Eshu and difficult to pacify
them. God allowed evil but restrained evil, and
only the karma of man brings them upon him. Even
if witches cast evil on a man, his Ori is his last
bunker to defend him and this Ori also depends
largely on the past karma he has accrued.

Lastly, Eshu cannot take or give man
soul, like the Christian Devil can. Eshu does not
need a soul or reside in any Hell. He is an
important minister of God according yoruba philosophy. Those who perform
devil worship and the Satanists perform a lot of
human sacrifice and mortification… but Yoruba do
not sacrifice humans to Eshu

A Prologue to the Messiah?

And the Fountain of Tololo is an Oasis.
It quenches the thirst of travelers,
The myriads paces of the mind fold their wings,
For here too, growth emerges from sleep;
From a beginning that was an end of an era.

The whiteman of God is coming here for Easter,
The whiteman of God is coming to spend Easter with us!
This was the talk everywhere in Iwo,
Among the old and young; even among the pagans.
We had been taught everything about him in advance.
When He comes we should observe his cloths, and if it was hewn like Christs'

O! Let us have him,
For his silver hairs will purchase us a good opium,
And buy men's voices to commend our deeds.
It shall be said his judgment rules our hands.
Our youths and wildness shall not wit appear;
But all be buried in his messainic adventure!

Sai baba.... Sai buhari!

A wind/rain of change indeed!

Nairaland / General / Why Hasn't Any Other Nigerian Won The Nobel Laureate ? by Akorede612(m): 10:12am On May 22, 2015
This morning i stumbled through Soyinka's profile and i was... Wow!...

It then behoves us to ask...

is it that Soyinka was such a genius?

or our self acclaimed professors are not world class?

or our educational system is so porous such that all we churn out are half-baked graduates?

or our youths(myself inclusive) does not have enough drive to challenge and make impact in the global world?

Seriusly, this calls for deep thought.

Golden Plate Award

Akinwande Oluwole "Wole" Babatunde Soyinka
( Yoruba : Oluwo̩lé S̩óyinká, pronounced
"Shoyinka"; born 13 July 1934) is a Nigerian
playwright and poet. He was awarded the 1986
Nobel Prize in Literature, [2] the first African
to be honored.

Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family in
Abeokuta . After study in Nigeria and the UK, he
worked with the Royal Court Theatre in London.
He went on to write plays that were produced
in both countries, in theatres and on radio.

He
took an active role in Nigeria's political history
and its struggle for independence from Great
Britain. In 1965, he seized the Western Nigeria
Broadcasting Service studio and broadcast a
demand for the cancellation of the Western
Nigeria Regional Elections. In 1967 during the
Nigerian Civil War , he was arrested by the
federal government of General Yakubu Gowon
and put in solitary confinement for two years.
[3]
Soyinka has been a strong critic of successive
Nigerian governments, especially the country's
many military dictators, as well as other
political tyrannies, including the Mugabe regime
in Zimbabwe. Much of his writing has been
concerned with "the oppressive boot and the
irrelevance of the colour of the foot that
wears it". [4] During the regime of General Sani
Abacha (1993–98), Soyinka escaped from Nigeria
via the "NADECO Route" on a motorcycle.

Living
abroad, mainly in the United States , he was a
professor first at Cornell University and then
at Emory University in Atlanta, where in 1996
he was appointed Robert W. Woodruff Professor
of the Arts. Abacha proclaimed a death
sentence against him "in absentia".
With civilian
rule restored to Nigeria in 1999, Soyinka
returned to his nation. He has also taught at
the universities of Oxford , Harvard and Yale .
[5][6]
From 1975 to 1999, he was a Professor of
Comparative Literature at the Obafemi
Awolowo University , then called the University
of Ife. With civilian rule restored to Nigeria in
1999, he was made professor emeritus. [3]
Soyinka has been a Professor of Creative
Writing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas .
In the fall of 2007 he was appointed Professor
in Residence at Loyola Marymount University in
Los Angeles, California , US. [3]

Education / Edo Police Arrest 14 JSS Students’ Cultists by Akorede612(m): 3:16pm On May 20, 2015
Edo Police arrest 14 JSS
students’ cultists

Police in Benin have arrested 14 Junior Secondary
School (JSS) students over their alleged
involvement in cult-related activities in Benin
City.

The students whose age ranges between 12 and 15
were picked when a crack team of policemen
stormed Oguola Secondary School, Saint –Saviour,
Benin City, last Thursday.

Dependable sources hinted our reporter that the
teenage suspected cultists are being screened at
the state criminal Investigation Department,
SCID, police headquarters, Benin City.

Principal of the school, Mr. Ehanire Reuben said
that eight of the students were nabbed at flash
spots in the school compound.

He stated that their arrest prompted the police
team to conduct a search on some students in the
classrooms.

Mr. Ehanire added that items believed to be
emblems of notorious cult groups in Edo State
were recovered from them.
He however, maintained that reports made against
the students by some parents may have triggered
the raid.

He also disclosed that prior to the onslaught; he
was told that a student teacher in the school was
attacked as his phone and wallet were taken by
some students who equally attacked other persons
in the area.

Mr. Ehanire appealed to the police command to
release those found to be innocent.
The Spokesman for Edo police command, DSP
Stephen Onwochei stated that the raid on the
school followed a tip-off.

DSP Onwochei said that though those arrested
were underage, the paraphernalia found on the
students called for proper investigation.
He maintained that the police command would not
leave any stone unturned in its renewed war
against cultism and other crimes in Edo.

HELP

Puh-lease dear educationists and born-teachers,
advice, instructions and guidelines needed quite
urgently.
How does one begin to teach a 15-year-old boy
how to read and write in the space of four
months?

JAMES

James is not a small boy, not anymore. He now
farms as much as his father and taps palm-wine
even more than the old man. James had been riding
his father's bike since he was very young. He is
blessed with long arms that makes him look like a
professional biker on those noisy machines.
But James is still a student. He passed his Junior
WAEC last year but was advised to repeat JSS 3
class because he was obviously not mentally fit
for the senior class. Obviously, he had got help in
the exam hall for the duration of the WAEC( or is
it WASSCE?). But James is a willing learner, and
that's why my attention is stolen. A plain, simple
young man who has the some of the purest of
dreams and hidden potentials among my students.
He's just by no means getting it right YET most
probably because some Primary school(s) failed to
do their job very well on his reading and spelling
but kept promoting him and 'pushing him away'. As
long as his father pays the school fees, what does
it matter to them if a village boy can recognize
the word 'boy' or not.

'Uncle, I don't know how to read. I want to learn,
can you please help me?'

James

' Uncle, I can't spell.'
And when his classmates go ''Uncle, spell 'a-n-t-
o-n-y-m' , he asks 'Uncle, but how do you know
to spell it? I want to know too'
These statements and request touch me when he
makes them, even to my colleagues.
Few days ago, he walks up to a colleague and
makes another call for help.
'Uncle, I will like to be a soldier. But I will also
like to go to a university so I can be a corper like
you and then be a Professor and then a politician.
Please advise me.'

I am not sure on the details of the advice my
friend rendered but I sure as yesterday want to
advise him rightly, guide him to the best of my
ability and beyond. But it starts with my initial
question.

Politics / ARISE- O Sleeping Youths Of Nigeria! by Akorede612(m): 8:57am On May 09, 2015
Arise O' Sleeping Youth of Nigeria!
Awolowo was (37), Akintola (36), Ahmadu
Bello (36) Balewa (34) and Okotie-Eboh
(27), Enahoro (27) led the struggle for
independence after the death of
Macaulay.

Only Zik was 42 at the time.
In 1966, the first coup was led by:
Kaduna Nzeogwu (29) and countered by
Murtala Mohammed (28), Theophilus
Danjuma (28), Babangida (25), Nanven
Garba (23), Sani Abacha (23), Shehu Musa
Yaradua (23), and brought into power
Gowon (32), Ojukwu (33), Obasanjo (29),
Buhari (24).

Most of the military administrators who
governed the states under the successive
military regimes, most of whom are
governors now, were under 30 years.
The brief democratic dispensation which
interjected the military interregnums also
saw the House of Representatives in
particular populated by majority of
members under 30 years as well as some
senators.

Under 30s were also not in short supply
with appointments, we have examples of
MT Mbu who became foreign affairs
minister at 23 and Pat Utomi who became
a presidential adviser at 27 and so on and
so forth.

Why is it that this age bracket is today still

Why is it that this age bracket is today still

Why is it that this age bracket is today

Why is it that this age bracket is today
incapacitated, unwilling, unable and
incapable of asking questions?

positive minded
youths try n ruminate over it. bring a new idea
that will bring us out of this mess.
