PoliticsFemi Adesina: You Can’t Force Buhari To Make Public His Assets Second Time by AkuYAY(op): 1:30pm On Jan 07, 2020
Presidency: Publicly declaring assets is voluntary, Buhari won’t do it

A presidential spokesperson on Tuesday said there was no law that mandates President Muhammadu Buhari to declare his assets publicly.

The presidency was reacting to the demand of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, (SERAP) which urged Mr Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the 36 state governors to make their assets public in seven days.

SERAP, in its statement on Sunday, argued that the non-disclosure by the officials “seriously undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the constitutional and statutory obligations to submit asset declarations.”

‘Not true’
Meanwhile, the presidency through Femi Adesina, spokesperson to Mr Buhari, while reacting on Monday during Channels TV Politics Today, said no law compelled his principal to make public his assets in his second term.

He said such a decision to make the assets public “is voluntary will and not a compulsion.”

“The president will do what the law requires of him and I can say for a fact that the president has declared his assets.

“Declaring that publicly is not in our law but voluntary. Therefore, he cannot be compelled to do so,” he said.

PREMIUM TIMES recalls that Messrs Buhari and Osinbajo released some details of their assets during their first tenure in 2015.

The FOI Act establishes the right of anyone to request information in the custody of any public official, agency or institution, with the exception of security files which are not of public concern.

Mr Adesina also noted that, “If FOI Act is invoked, it will be left with the Code of Conduct Bureau to release such information. The president has declared and already deposited the documents to them. So, it’s left to them to make such a decision,” he argued.

The Code of Conduct Bureau had in the past refused to disclose such information saying it was not mandated by law to do so.

CrimeHuman Trafficking: The Impact Of NAPTIP In Nigeria by AkuYAY(op): 2:15pm On Jan 02, 2020
RMTIMESNG-Observers have noted that human trafficking has become a global menace overtime, while Nigeria is still grappling with the burden of how to curtail the inhuman treatment by unscrupulous elements profiting from the business.

They agreed that many dreams have been shattered or killed entirely, especially among the female folks who innocently walk into the trap of human traffickers in the guise of seeking for greener pasture.

Tim Galvin, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, said issues around human trafficking have become global phenomenon and regarded as international crime.

Galvin noted that the fight against trafficking in women and children would be achieved if government agencies from different countries

shared information.

He, however, pledged the continuous support of the UK Government to assist Nigeria in achieving more results toward the fight against human trafficking.

Meanwhile, sequel to the many dangers associated with human trafficking, the Federal Government in 2003 deemed it fit to set up the National Agency for the
Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) with the sole responsibility of checking the menace.

PoliticsMaintaining The Socio-economic Balance In The Face Of Insurgency In Nigeria by AkuYAY(op): 1:53pm On Jan 02, 2020
RMTIMESNG- One leading topical issue in Nigeria is the issue of security. This remains an epidemic both to the private and public individuals in the Nigerian parlance. Affecting grossly good governance and development as well as , the sustainability of the Nigerian democracy.

Among all security issues battling the present day Nigeria, insurgency comes at the forefront. From the rise of the supposed Islamic sect- Boko Haram which have continued to grow diversely over the years emancipating it’s empire through the Northeast part of the country, killing, maiming and displacing citizens from their homes, to the rise of armed bandits, kidnapping- kingpins, and ritualists amongst other sects, the issue of growing insecurities have impacted negative on the growth and development of Nigeria creating an imbalance in the socio-economic developments as most affected areas have been reduced to nothing, contributing only an abysmal ratio to the nation’s gross domestic products.

The impious activities of Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria, for more than a decade now, remain the vehicles for the destruction of innocent lives and property. This have drawn concerns from the international community placing Nigeria as one of the top African countries bedeviled with this social menace.

The concerns range from the effects of the insurgency activities on the socio-economic development in Nigeria to the corporate existence of the country and the international image it constitutes for the country.

PoliticsRE: Humanitarian Affairs Minister Refuses To Approve School Feeding Program Paym by AkuYAY(op): 10:54pm On Dec 26, 2019
Our attention has been drawn to an Exclusive Story reported by Sahara Reporters written on the 25th of December, 2019 on the alleged Failure of The Hon.Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to approve payments for school feeding in some states and Npower Stipends for October,/November 2019.

Since the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiyya Farouq, assumed office, she has gone about handling the transition of the affairs of the Social Investment Programmes from the Presidency to the new Ministry, with the support of the programme administrators and the Cluster Heads.

During this period, she has had to receive briefings from the NSIO and the different clusters concerning the implementation and status of the programmes, successes and challenges. Where she needs additional information, she has sought further clarification in a bit to ensure that the implementation process fulfills the intended mandates of the SIPs.

It should be noted that the former accounting Ministry, which is the ministry of Budget and National Planning has to put on hold all processes of payments after the presidential instruction of the movement of the SIP. Hence, the necessary civil service procedures that needs to be set up in the new ministry and the briefings delayed payments for a bit.

However all issues and briefings and procedures has been resolved and payment has.....

PoliticsRead Full Text Of President Buhari’s 2019 Christmas Message by AkuYAY(op): 5:17pm On Dec 24, 2019
I felicitate with our Christian brothers and sisters in particular, and all Nigerians in general, on the joyous occasion of Christmas of the year 2019.

As Christendom commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, I enjoin all Nigerians to imbibe and demonstrate the essence of the season of love; goodwill among all the ethnic groups in the country; giving and sharing; strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and good neighborliness; and focusing on all that bind us together as one united country.

I, therefore, urge our compatriots to shun all actions which negate the spirit of the season.

However, celebrating the spirit and virtues of Christmas need not be a one-day affair, but rather, ought to continue into the New Year.

It is in line with the spirit of Christmas that I call on all elements whose actions are opposed to what the season represents, especially, insurgents, terrorists, armed robbers, kidnappers and economic saboteurs, to retrace their steps and join people of goodwill and common humanity.

If they fail to heed this call, they will meet their end as the armed forces, security and law-enforcement agencies are poised now to confront and defeat them.

Our people must make extra efforts to live in peace and harmony with their neighbours, irrespective of differences.

While it is gladdening to note that incidents of violence and conflicts have reduced drastically owing to the several operations embarked on by our security agencies, we must not let our guards down.

As Christmas indicates good tidings of hope and redemption, Nigerians can look forward to a turnaround in the administration’s priority areas of fighting corruption, providing security, economic diversification, job creation and infrastructure upgrade.

Having recently signed the 2020 Appropriation Bill into Law, I reiterate my promise during the presentation of the Budget Proposals before the National Assembly on October 8, 2019 that, “We remain resolutely committed to the actualization of our vision of a bright and prosperous future for all Nigerians.”.......

EducationEnsuring Inclusive Education For Blind Students by AkuYAY(op): 2:07pm On Nov 27, 2019
RMtimesNg-Mrs Ibrahim and her husband, Mr Mansur Ibrahim in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, did not know they gave birth to a visually impaired baby.

After some months, they observed that they could not connect expressions between them and the baby but they thought the development could be one of the early challenges among the newborns.

After two years, they sought help from a medical specialist that diagnosed that their son was visually impaired.

The specialist suggested medications to restore the baby’s sight which the couple agreed and the medications began immediately.

In spite of the medications, the condition never changed and they had to live with the pain of having a blind first child.

“We have to start looking for an elementary school where his condition will be accepted and found one school for blind and physically challenged children in FCT,’’ Ibrahim said.

The child — Ishaku — who is presently 24 years old, is a 300-Level student of Political Science in University of Abuja.

Ishaku said: “Being the first child of my parents, I was born blind and it took more than two years and six months for my mother to discover the condition.

“My mother took me to St. Mary Specialist Hospital, Zuba in FCT, where we met a German doctor.

FEMI FANI KAYODE: IN A FACTORY OF INCOHERENT MISCHIEF AIMED AT ACHIEVING SELFISH GOALS, By Eniola Opeyemi

… in response to Femi Fani-Kayode’s “Today Is Osinbajo’s Turn To Be Rubbished, Dumped By The Cabal, It’s Tinubu’s Turn Tomorrow”

YBTC NEWS-FFK political lineage tracks to people like Bode George and Good luck Jonathan… “Ajègbodò tó n wá eni kúnra” (The guilty one is always looking for an accomplice).

As a youth from Southwest Nigeria, I grew up learning the ethics and values of the land from elders of reputable character who have good intentions for the society. Through this, our societal values have gotten the best recommendations and our tribe is widely acknowledged, arguably, the finest. But FFK has refused to accept proper “home training”.

From the best pedigree, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, has been well groomed and today, he is one of the finest experts known in his field, both in the classroom and the court room. Osinbajo is so grounded in his field that he is an institution all by himself such that groups and individuals eulogize him even before he came on board as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Then how can you rubbish an established personality who wasn’t known through politics? Besides, he has always exhibited a distinct, flawless and unquestionable character which has stood the test of time over the years?

Reading through Femi Fani Kayode’s article, one cannot but come to conclusion that not all ADULT are intelligent.

PoliticsChecking The Menace Of Commercial Tricycle Operators In Abuja by AkuYAY(op): 11:39am On Nov 20, 2019
RMTimesNG-It came like a bolt out of the blue and caught virtually all residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) unawares.

Yes the issue at stake is the decision of the FCT administration to confine commercial tricycle operators (also known as Keke) to certain parts of the city and restrain them from the highways and the City Centre which many initially misinterpreted as an outright ban from operation.

Surprisingly not many people realised that the decision was not based on a fresh regulation as according to the chairman of the Ministerial Task Team on Free Flow of Traffic Comrade Ikharo Attah, the move was in line with the Transportation Master Plan of the FCT, which stipulates that the operations of all means of transportation must be regulated and controlled.

For the avoidance of doubt, this is the same policy that former FCT Minister Malam Nasir el-Rufai relied on when he barred commercial motorcyclists from the highways and the Federal Capital City in 2005. Incidentally, that decision also elicited public outrage but el-Rufai was spared the type of social media attention that has come the way of the incumbent minister Malam Musa Bello for daring to be different.

The immediate reaction to the enforcement was clearly a throwback to the el-Rufai years and at the forefront of the attack is the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) whose leadership swiftly held a press conference addressed by its National President, Augustine Apeh.

IslamFriday Sermon: Fasting On The Day Of `ashura’ – The 10th Of Muharram by AkuYAY(op): 10:19am On Sep 06, 2019
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

YBTC News—First of all, it is very important to make it clear that fasting on the day of `Ashura’ – the 10th of Muharram- is of great merits in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Fasting the day of `Ashura’ (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year” (Muslim).

Also, fasting the 9th of Muharram is highly recommended by the Sunnah. Imam At-Tirmidhi reported that Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: We should fast on two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram to distinguish ourselves from the Jewish community. (At-Tirmidhi)

Muharram as we know is part of the four sacred months in islam. Abu Bakarah ( may Allah be pleased with him ) reported that the Prophet ( peace and blessings of Allah be upon him ) said: “The year is twelve months of which four are sacred, the three consecutive months of Dhul-Qa’dah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram, and Rajab Mudar which comes between Jumadah and Sha’ban.”
Moreover, in Fiqh As-Sunnah , it is stated that ,

It is the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him used to fast on the day of `Ashura’. When he came to Madinah, he found out that the Jews of Madinah..
