MissTechy, your post was informative . Nice one. Do you mind giving me tips on how to set up a blog? I know many people will be inclined to say Google is your friend, hell, you learnt a lot from Google yourself but I think you will have a better way to share your experiences. Thank you |
Ondo state doesn't pay anything. |
I was in a barber's shop waiting to be attended to when I started reading the funny experience, I was laughing seriously all the guys started giving me looks...didn't mind them though. You made my day. Don't mind the haters, they start popping up when you doing something good. |
The search for a new job can be daunting in and of itself. During an interview, you are essentially measured up on a scorecard before a final decision is made. However, after many years, I’ve learned the true challenge begins once the initial interview is out of the way. New hires must adapt to the company’s culture within the first days on the job, contributing their individual skills toward moving the company forward. That stretch is no honeymoon. It reminds me of a question asked to newly inaugurated presidents on what priorities they aim to achieve in the first 100 days. When your new boss is assessing your performace, every second counts Still, the thrill of landing a new job, particularly in a challenging economy, should outweigh any fears and inspire an all-out effort to show that bringing you aboard was the right call. Here are some tips for leaving a positive, lasting impression with your new employer. Come With Questions Before your first day, make a list of possible questions that not only touch on your responsibilities, but also what the boss expects of the team as a whole and his or her vision for the organization. Gaining such information allows you to be on the same page with your supervisor and work toward a shared goal. You want to be perceived as a true team player and leader, which is the ability to create future leaders and not followers. Punctuality is the Politeness of Kings During the interview, you may have stressed how punctuality has been a hallmark of your work history. Showing up late the first day or for an entire week will cast doubt on your claim and cause your boss to question your dependability. Show up early. Small brownie points from the get-go assure your employer hiring you was a smart choice. Take Notes Being attentive will ease the learning curve and prevent your new boss from repeating him or herself, as well as questioning your skill sets or ability to retain information. As a student, you always broke out a notepad and pen when learning new material. Apply that same habit to your early days on the job when your boss or a co-worker dispenses valuable details about your position or a particular policy. This studious approach can shorten the learning curve and keep you from having to ask about something only hours or days later, which can make you look inattentive. Take Initiative Beyond Your Scope If offered the opportunity to work on a project outside your job description, take it. Surprised by your penchant for quick learning and versatility as a worker, your boss may start pondering your potential in a management role. Plus, if you have your sights set on a senior position, you'll need to know how the entire organization functions, not just your department. Maintain Regular Contact With Your Boss Depending on the pace of the work and your boss's schedule, you should request to meet on a regular basis. The meeting can be for 10 minutes at the end of each day or a single 20-minute session during the week. I always used the methodology that the meeting aims more of seeking to understand than anything else, and it has served me very well during my career. Though most people do not have time these days and rely on emails for communications, I always believe communicating via email may not be best use of the time establishing the Key Performance Indicators for what the company and your leader’s expectations are. Stay on Solid Footing With Your Boss It almost goes without saying that having a cordial and productive relationship with your new boss makes life around the office much more peaceful. To stay in your boss's good graces, view him or her as a customer whose trust you're hoping to earn through quality service. Get to Know Your Coworkers Chats in the break room or a casual lunch are great options for breaking the ice between you and your new colleagues. Being aware of what their jobs entail shows that you care, and introduces you to people who will be more likely to throw your name into the ring as you advance throughout your career. Being able to place a name to a face is an invaluable advantage that can only help you. This is one of the first lessons I learned in the U.S., at the university level, and have applied this basic principle throughout my career. Own Your Mistakes With a flood of new information and procedures to process, you're bound to make a mistake here and there. Whether you're a newly hired executive or entry-level employee, address any issues immediately. I was taught what are called "common bond" principles; I recommend memorizing these principles for your particular company and applying them on a daily basis. Innovate, Innovate, Innovate To me this is hardest, yet most achievable, parameter of creating creativity around your customers. When I joined the corporate world, I knew what a patent was but never imagined how one can use what you learn and like social networking to inspire innovation in supporting customers needs. Spending time with customers and solving their issues may result in major innovation and patents that can help companies save billions, and/or reduce cycle time and implement automation to lower costs while increasing quality. Teach, Teach, Teach It is critical to communicate what you learn to others around you. Sharing knowledge that benefits the company will spread like wildfire and positively impact the business across all spectrums. The more your learn, the more you need to communicate.
