Imo On Stand Still As Godwin Maduka Gives Mother-in-law Society Burial, Pledges Befitting Home For Catholic Priests

The final burial of Mrs. Elizabeth Chinyere Amaechi, the mother-in-law of Dr. Godwin Maduka, a Nigerian US-based medical doctor has come and gone but the beautiful memories it created will linger for a long time.

Dr. Maduka a former governoship candidate in Anambra State in 2021 had recently returned from abroad to give the mother of his wife who died at the age of 77 a befitting burial.

It was a total shut down on Saturday, Oct 15 as people from all works of life trooped to Isiala Mbano LGA of the state to pay their last respect to mama Elizabeth who was extolled for her sound Christian life and peaceful living with all.

Maduka a renowned philanthropist had stormed the Imo community with retinue of friends, associates and allies who had come to identify with him at his period of grief.

Speaking at the burial ceremony, Dr. Maduka extolled the selflessness of Mrs. Elizabeth and her life of sacrifices for which she stood out in the community.

He said in the past 25 years he has known the late Elizabeth, she has remained an epitome of virtuous woman whose desire to touch the lives of others is worth emulating.

He said the late mother-in-law will be greatly missed especially her divine intercession as a prayer warrior and her words of wisdom in trouble moments.

While saying that the late Elizabeth is a mother in law everyone would wish to have, Dr. Maduka called on her children to emulate her and sustain her virtues of love, sacrifice, truth and fearlessness.

The billionaire medical doctor also pledged to complete an ongoing project expected to serve as home for Catholic Priests in the community In memory of the late Mother inlaw.

Thanksgiving service for the life and time of Mrs. Elizabeth was held on Sunday.

Godwin Maduka Returns To Nigeria, Received By AlexReports And Family

A US Nigerian medical doctor and former Anambra Governorship candidate, Godwin Maduka has returned to Nigeria after his journey overseas. Though reasons for his prolonged stay was not disclosed, he had maintained a close contact back here in Nigeria through his appointed officers.

He returned on Thursday through Owerri Airport where he was received by his long time ally, Alex Nwankwo popularly known as AlexReports in the company of his wife, Mrs. Esther Nwankwo.

Dr. Maduka, a renowned philanthropist has left a footprint of love in the minds of many in the Nigerian society from across various regions of the country.

In 2021 he sought to be elected the governor of Anambra State on the platform of Accord Party.

AlexReports named his second son after Maduka as a result of their close ties.

Comedian MC Tagwaye Appointed Special Consultant To UTA Nigeria

Nigerian stand up Comedian and philanthropist Obinna Simon, Stage name MC Tagwaye, has been appointed a Special Consultant to the United Towns Agency, UTA Nigeria for efforts in empowering Nigerians, especially youths.

Presenting a letter of Authority to MC Tagwaye in Abuja on Friday the Country President, United Towns Agency-United Nations, Princess Abigail Amalaha stated that the appointment came on the heels of his efforts to meet UN SDGs.

Amalaha said the UTA has been working closely with the Tagwaye Foundation to support the youths as the foundation’s aims and objective are in tandem with that of the humanitarian vision of UTA - to support the youths to actualise their dreams as well as help the less privileged in providing social services and facilitating their educational needs.

She said, “MC Tagwaye, your appointment as a Special Consultant to UTA - Nigeria is a call to duty to put more effort in your commitment to advance the course of the less privileged and the needy in our society.

The country President therefore urged well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with MC Tagwaye in ensuring that he succeeds in this assignment.

In his acceptance speech, MC Tagwaye thanked the leadership of the UTA in Geneva and Nigeria for the appointment.

He underscored the need to give back to society considering his background and the hardship people go through.

“Giving back to the community and society is something that one can not do without. If one understands the impacts; how far it goes, nobody will suffer in the society.

“Also, owing to my background, I understand clearly what it means for somebody to tell you he needs help and that is why in the course of my entertainment career, I made it a duty to open a foundation where people can get help and we can also liberate a lot of people.

“It is in line with this that I also accept this appointment. With respect to what we do, and what the organisation is into - helping people, helping different countries to make sure that life becomes affordable and bearable, I accepted this appointment the moment I was told that this is what the United Towns Agency is into, ” Nigeria's philanthropist, MC Tagwaye said.

He also appealed to the general public to assist in lifting people in need, adding that UTA cannot do it alone.

“It is very important to understand that these are organisations that help other people but this can only be actualised when the society and the community put hands together to also make it happen.

The renowned stand-up comedian expressed delight, adding, “this great event today marks the beginning of good things both for Nigeria and Africa.”

UNN Final Year Student Wins N30m Star Prize At The Big Break Moment Africa 2022

A final year student of the department of Theater and Film Studies, of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Joel Chibuzor Uzor Aka Joel Jonez has emerged the winner of the Big Break Moment Africa 2022, a TV reality show for talented undergraduates.

At the Big Break Moment Africa grand finale which held at the prestigious Eko hotels and suites in Lagos, Nigeria, Jonez, a professional dancer was awarded N30 million worth of cash and prizes.

He was given the grand prize which includes a 2021 Geely Coolray and N10M Naira cash.

Thousands of undergraduates auditioned for the show in July and 20 of them were selected from different higher institutions across the country, 5 undergraduates were also selected from the online audition.

The selected contestants were housed for 35 days at The Big Break Moment Mansion where they underwent a series of trainings from industry professionals.

10 Dream mates made it to the grand finale and 5 were selected for their final performance.

The Grand finale was anchored by super talented TV host, Denrele Edun and Ushbebe while the 3 Judges were Hollywood Stars from the USA; Andria Adams, Jonathan Coleman, and Doc Calvin Bonds.

OCI FOUNDATION-INSPIRED BILL TO INTEGRATE ANTI-CANCER TEACHINGS INTO NIGERIAN SCHOOLS’ CURRICULUM PASSES PUBLIC HEARING (29/9/2022)

It was yet another big day in the OCI Foundation’s novel quest to arm every Nigerian with the tools required to fight breast and cervical cancers, as a Bill seeking to include relevant teachings into the curriculum of all senior secondary schools in Nigeria, scaled through Public Hearing.

The Bill is being sponsored by Hon Dr Tanko Sununu (the Chief Sponsor and Chairman, House Committee on Health Care Services) and Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere (the Co-Sponsor and Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education). It also has the support of the Distinguished Sen Dr Ifeanyi Uba of the Nigerian Senate.

The public hearings for this Bill, which was declared open by the Speaker of the Nigerian House Of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (represented by the Deputy House Leader, Hon Peterson Akpatason), were held on Thursday, September 29th, and Friday September 30th, 2022, at the at the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS). The Bill had already scaled through First (Thursday, March 31, 2022). and Second (Wednesday, July 20, 2022) hearings at the floor of the Nigerian House of Representatives.

This anti-cancer Bill is part of the OCI Foundation’s "ARM OUR YOUTHS (ArOY) ANTI-CANCER HEALTH CAMPAIGN", a novel initiative targeting youths in NIGERIAN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS and the NATIONAL YOUTHS SERVICE CORPS (NYSC) SCHEME.

The ArOY Health Campaign is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, and, when fully passed into law and implemented, the provisions of this Bill can change the narrative against breast and cervical cancers in Nigeria and the developing world. The OCI Foundation intends to extend this Bill to the rest of Africa through the relevant arms of the African Union, AU.

The ArOY Health Campaign enjoys the support of the Nigerian First Lady, Her Excellency, DR AISHA BUHARI, whose NGO, the FUTURE ASSURED FOUNDATION, is supportive of the anti-cancer Bill.

Already, in partnership with Nigerian National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), the OCI Foundation is annually delivering the same anti-cancer campaign to hundreds of thousands of Nigerian fresh graduates (youth corps members) in all the 37 NYSC orientation camps in Nigeria (the 36 states plus the FCT).

Success at the just-concluded Public Heating will be followed by the Third (Final) Reading on the floor of the Nigerian House of Representatives. Once passed there, the Bill will then be transmitted to the Nigerian Senate for harmonization. Thereafter, it goes to the Nigerian President, His Excellency, Mohammadu BUHARI, for signing into law.

With the near-universal endorsement of all stakeholders present at the Public Hearing (listed below), the OCI Foundation is optimistic that the dream to empower Nigerian youths against breast and cervical cancers in all the senior secondary schools across the country, will soon become a reality. The Foundation is deeply thankful to Hon Dr Tanko and Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere, the Chief and Co-sponsors of the Bill, respectively.

Alongside the Nigerian First Lady, other partners to the ArOY Health Campaign Bill include the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS), the Nigerian First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), the Sweet Home Africa Humanitarian Foundation (SHAHF), the Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA), and the Amity Global Network/Alex Reports.

Other Nigerian institutions and partners of the OCI Foundation that are supportive of the Bill include the National Research and Educational Council (NERDC), the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs (FMWA), the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA), the Ifeanyi Uba Foundation, Breast Without Spots (BWS), the Regamos Foundation, the Excellent Leadership NGO.

Most of the organisations mentioned above were present at the Public Hearing. Also present were the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Federal Ministry of Education (FMOE), and some representatives of two senior secondary schools in Abuja (Start Rite School AND Early Heights College).
